While we wait...baby name talk?

I can't be the only one obsessed with baby names, right?  Anyone wanna share your favorites or toss around ideas?  My DD is Rose Quinlan and I'm trying to find a name I like as well for baby #2.  My naming style is classic or familiar names that are easy to spell and pronounce, not too overused, and something that feels warm and very lovable, if that makes sense.  We also used a family surname for DD's middle name, and we probably want to continue that tradition.  How bout you guys?

For girls I think my top five are: Lila, Eliza, Matilda, Louella (family name) or Pearl.  I also like Tess a lot, but it was our 2nd choice for DD and I wonder if it'll feel like a leftover name or something.  I am looking for other girls suggestions, if anyone has some!

Our boy name has been picked out since our honeymoon and we're keeping it secret.

As I mentioned above, classic but not overused, warm feeling, and I didn't mention above, but I also like something that feels a bit feisty.

Tons!  

Boys: Jefferson (ex), Franklin (ex related), Asa (close friend, would be weird)
Girls: Dahlia, Ivy, Iris, Poppy, (love ALL of these, but I don't want another floral name), Olive (friend used it)

We have 3 boys so if our next is a boy it is going to be rough trying to figure out a name. DH doesn't like any of the boy names I like right now... Out of my girl names DH only likes Hannah. He doesn't like flower names.
Boys: Benjamin, Andrew

I'd say classic/tradional we also like to have a family name in there as well. My sons all have middle or first names from family members.

This is a huge issue for us actually. I am a teacher so that can make it hard for me to pick a name  I also like the name Carrington (nickname: Carrie) for a girl but DH majorly vetoed that one. Jackson/Jaxson - too many friends have  Jacksons. Ethan- a good friend used it, Christopher (ex)

Love this post! My husband and I had our daughter's name picked out for years before I was pregnant. We never even came close to a boy's name. Obviously it ended up being a non-issue.

@maureenmce: We have very similar naming styles! I like all your name choices but especially love Eliza and Pearl. I fave family members with both those names so I'm especially partial 
@glitzandglitter: I imagine coming up with 3 names of the same sex is hard! I love both Hannah and Lily though. My husband is a teacher so I understand your problem.

I actually have less. If we have another little girl I think we're set on Miriam. Middle name is up in the air.
We really struggle with boy names and never came close to picking one last time. I think the only names that weren't vetoed were Cole and Joel, but neither of us were sold on either.

In general I like short names and prefer not to use nick names. I go by a nickname and have hated it my whole life. For girls I prefer feminine, classic names. For boys I generally like biblical names.

Not really for girls but there are several boy names I love but husband vetoed. I love Abram and Ezra but my husband doesn't like them. We somewhat considered Israel for a boy but felt it has some baggage with it.

@notthefather - Israel would be a good name for a boy, but it would be hard having that name with everything that's happening right now.

I haven't talked to DH about my name list yet, I'm waiting until I'm pregnant to bring it up with him.
For a girl - Daphne, Claire, or Brigette.
For a boy - Simon or Kirk.

I like names that sound the same in both french and in english.

Kirk was a nickname for my DH's grandpa who passed away 6 years ago and my SIL told me several years ago that she wanted to use it (she won't be TTC for a couple more years). But my DH said he would like to use it because he was very attached to his grandpa. If we find out we are having a boy, I'm going to have to find out somehow if she still wants the name.

@ChloandCoco - I totally agree with you on Israel. I think that name has moved to a guilty pleasure list.
I love Kirk!  It's tough when a family member has expressed interest in a name you really love. I've seen this happen with various outcomes (one used the name, neither used the name, both used the name.) I actually have a first cousin who has the same name as me. It's a little confusing at times but really not as bad as you would think. I think the best idea would be to talk to your SIL about it, if need be. My best friend's sister used her well-known dream name without even giving her a heads-up about it. I think being blindsided was the worst part.

@notthefather - I agree a blindside would be a very bad idea. Since we announce the sex of the baby we like to keep the name a secret until the baby is born and I don't think my SIL would be able to keep it a secret. Anyway, who knows if we will be having a boy anyway.

@notthefather  LOVE Miriam.  Such a beautiful name.  It'd be on my short list too, but I feel like it's too similar to my first name. 

@ChloandCoco - I really like Daphne (it's on my maybe list, but DH isn't sold) and love Claire.  We like one syllable names a lot and would probably choose Claire if a close friend of ours didn't have a DD named Claire.  And we have another close friend with a Clara!  Great name though.  

Remembered a couple of others I can't use but love:

Coraline!  So unique and beautiful, but a friend used it.  Friends also used Emmett and Finn for twin boys (such great names!)  Benjamin I love too, but my DH had a falling out with a friend with that name.  Ditto with me and the name Alice. 

I always like to share names I can't use in hopes someone else likes them.  The whole "one man's trash is another man's treasure" thing haha.

@notthefather - Miriam is pretty. One of my favorite students of all time is named Eliza:)
@Chloandcoco - I like Kirk. I think it is cute for when they are little but also sounds nice as a grown up name.

You guys all have so many good ideas!!! H and I will never agree on a boy name, haha. We tend to be more on the same page w girl names when they come up, but we aren't set on anything. I don't even have a top 2 for either, I feel so behind! Lol

YES.  I actually have a pretty serious name obsession/addiction going on, and check Nameberry for at least a few mins almost every day because of it.

@maureenmce, I love Rose--it's definitely my top choice for another girl.  I also like Mary, Linnea, Adele, and Audrey.

For boys, I like Henry (even if a Duggar just used it--not a huge fan of theirs), Franklin ("Frank"), Andrew, Orin (family name on DH's side), and Theodore.

Currently have one DS, Anthony James. His MN is after a man who became a grandfather to me after mine passed. We became very close and I was so glad DH likes the name James. He also had a Grandpa Jim, so it actually worked out well! DH refuses to admit this, but I totally got the name Anthony from Tony on NCIS, haha.

Girl: Adelaide, Alexis (I promise we're not doing A names on purpose! Not my style, just coincidence)
Boy: no idea. DH likes Cassius, I'm not quite sure I'm a fan though.

I don't think so? Nothing too crazy and weird, or "speshul snowflayke" type names, but also nothing too boring either. I do like the idea of naming a child after someone if they're important to me.

Ariana! It was on DHs list for years, then Ariana Grande became popular. We both don't like her or her music. Also Lilian. Friends named their DD Lilianna, so DH said no since it's too close. That was my future-daughters name since I was 15

@CecilB93: I actually really like the sound of Cassius. Roman names are kind of a guilty pleasure for me. Not sure if name meaning has any value but I think it's kind of funny it means "vain." 

Lilian is beautiful! Such a shame you can't use it.

Do you have a top 5 list of baby names?  Or more? For girls, Fiona & Adella. We were super close to naming our first Fiona, (we finally decided after she was born), but decided on Freya. No idea for boy names though. 

Do you have a particular naming style? I love classic, nothing common though, or a name with a lot of meaning (like Norse gods/goddesses...)

Are there any names you love but you can't use for whatever reason? We love the name Mackenzie (it's my Scottish clan) but it's become too popular for us to use it now. At least where I live.

@fishee333  Love Fiona and Adella!  Related to Adella, I also love Adelia (from one of my favorite Margaret Atwood books) but could never get DH on board.  Sigh.  Fiona is on my longer list actually - but my best friend had a dog named Fiona that we both adored and I don't know if it'd be weird haha, but it's such a great name.

@fishee333: I'm intrigued by the Norse god/goddess names idea. I also love the idea of using your clan name but can see the deterrence with popularity. I named my child a top 5 name though so I have no room to speak.

I think we're classic-ish, .  Nothing toooooo trendy.  We like names that are a bit vintagey, and also ones for badass women and some of our favorite classic movie actresses/characters  (Audrey = Audrey Hepburn; Stevie = Stevie Nicks, my fav female rock n roller ever; Sabrina = movie; Eliza = My Fair Lady is my favorite musical)

A couple - yes.  
*Jordan - This is the name of my wife's best friend..who I genuinely dislike.  Bummerz there
*Riley - our besties just named their dog this! UGH.  
*Miley - for a girl.  My father, who passed, was named Michael.  I think it'd be a great name to use in his honor but...Miley Cyrus...GROANNNN!
*Stella - I love this name, but we accidentally let it slip to my MIL that we love this name for a potential/future daughter.  She and the rest of the family say it all the time and it's kind of lost its zing for me.

I definitely get the Miley thing, but just a thought - my sister-in-law's name is Maile, pronounced the same way. It's Hawaiian and means flower or something?

@fishee333 Wow that's beautiful!  I'll def pitch it to the wife and see what she says!  We could always use Molly for the M to honor him, which is on my list too.

And then I have an idea to make a girl's name "NAME-Rai Rose"  Rai means Thunder and Rose = Rose.  My dad had a country music band when I was growing up -- called the Thunder Rose Band.  Could be a cool way to sneak it in there without being toooo obvious!  I'd love to do the same thing for a boy but IDK about Rose for a boy's middle name!

Been thinking of adding a name to my list, what do you guys think of Mirabelle?  I like that it's rare, I think Mira or Belle are cute nicknames, and I like that it's a noun (a French plum) as well as a name, like my daughter's name, Rose.  Anyway, what do you guys think?  My husband really likes it, which is unusual for names I suggest off the top of my head, lol.

Also, with Belle, is that too tied to Disney or too close to Twilight?  How do Rose and Mirabelle go together?  I'd love your thoughts!

@maureenmce - I like it I don't think it is Twlight like because it is not Bella. Maybe if it was Mirabella. As for Disney, I think that because her full name would be Mirabelle you'd be fine.

We have picked out a girl and a boy name. No idea what we will do if we have twins of same sex, though not at all likely. Audrey (my name) Faith and Harrison Kyle are our names for our first, albeit girl or boy.

I am a teacher. There are a MILLION names I can't use because they have been students of mine; ha! Other than that, Jessica, Kelsey, David, and Justin are our no-go names due to our pasts.

I want to play. This is my first time back on tb in months. (TW-loss) I had a missed m/c in Oct. I loved the support from tb group I was in before, and I think I'm ready to come back. SO and I have discussed trying again, but we aren't ready to TTC, so I guess this is the place to be?

Do you have a top 5 list of baby names?  Or more? Ones I can remember right now (in no particular order): Madeline, Fern, Abraham, Theodore, Aderyn, Wolfgang, Arthur, Josephine, SO likes Delphina (and hates all the ones I like. Lol) Right now I'm on a kick that *if* I ever have twins and *if* one has red hair (like SO) and one has dark hair (like me) then I'll call them Phoenix and Augury (an irish phoenix) regardless of their genders. He doesn't care for that idea either. Haha. 

Do you have a particular naming style? I don't think so? Like @glitzandglitter we also reuse lots of family names. Specifically for middle names. My SO is the 7th gen of middle name Milton, so for any future boys, I'll be inclined to use that. I'd like to use Marian as a combo of my sisters' middle names (Marie and Ann) for a potential daughter. I tend to avoid recent "top 10"/popular names. I have a sister named Sarah and I've watched her struggle with being just another Sarah. My SO has a step sister named- you guessed it!- Sarah. Two Aunt Sarahs' for our kids!? That's confusing. I don't want to add to that. 

Are there any names you love but you can't use for whatever reason? I LOOOVEEE the name Guadalupe. It's the most beautiful name, but I can't name a child that because I don't want to explain why my hypothetical little white girl, with mostly celtic ancestry, has a spanish name. It just doesn't feel appropriate to me. I also like the name Justice, but I worry that my child could become a Supreme Court Justice when she grows up and then she would be "Justice Justice" and that's just silly.

@maureenmce  I wouldn't worry about people thinking about Twilight. Aside from it being a different name Twilight will be 10 years old. By the time your daughter was in kindergarten it'll be 15+ years old and nobody will even care anymore.
