This is a weekly check-in for those in their 2nd trimester: weeks 14 through the end of week 27.
Congrats to all the strong ladies who have made it this far! It's such a great feeling and we've all accomplished so much! We are now 1 week closer to the end of this especially long journey we call "infertility."
Please post below a little about yourself, how many beans you have growing inside, if you have found out the sex(es) and what your EDD is. Please also let us know how far you've made it on your journey and when your next appointment is and what for. If I'm missing anyone from this list, please let me know and I will add you.
Please let us know when you have graduated to 3rd trimester so that I can update our list!
Mommies to be:
@kelrauh EDD 5/14/17 with 1 boy and 1 girl!
QOTW: What is one baby item that you have decided to (or plan to) splurge on?
Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in Week of 2/27
Tomorrow morning I have my glucose challenge test. Here's hoping I don't have GD, especially with the insane sugar cravings I've been having this entire pregnancy. Give me all the cupcakes and donuts and Girl Scout cookies omg.
Our baby shower is a week from Saturday, which I know is sooner than most singleton pregnancies, but it's when my mom was available to fly out and host it. We've been slowly receiving baby things off our registries so our house is already starting to look like a baby lives here. Even though I'm not very good at it (and it takes me awhile), I love setting up the baby things. I feel like it keeps me from being a complete couch potato in the evenings, and makes me more and more excited for baby girl to get here!
QOTW: Hah, I know this was my own question and I said ONE baby item, but really we've decided to splurge on a couple of things. Actually, we haven't bought anything ourselves, as my in laws have been very spend happy when it comes to buying things for their first grandchild. The items I decided to go more expensive on were the furniture set (I wanted really good quality that would stay with her until she moves out, which includes the crib that converts to a double bed), and the infant car seat. We ended up getting the Nuna Pipa which has the load leg technology (for extra safety).

I'm 16+1 right now with one bean - symptoms have been pretty minimal other than the evil constipation that's still not really relieved but hopefully soon. I've definantly got a little bump now which is super fun...it's actually a bit lopsided to the left right now. haha
One more month until we know the gender!!! I'm so excited about that! This weekend, since we get new carpets in on Thursday (our current is super nasty from the other owners!), the room that is the soon to be baby room I primed and painted all the trim. It's going to be a nice fresh canvas to work with once I know the gender. I have a lot picked out for boy, finding it a bit harder for girl but I think that's because I really think its a boy!
What is one baby item that you have decided to (or plan to) splurge on? The chair for the nursery. It's so nice and will go with other rooms later down the road but it was an expensive piece. I feel in love with it prior to getting pregnant and always had my eye on it. I did find it at a better price an hour away so I'm getting it there but I dont feel so bad now that I just found out that my parents will be helping us pay for the nursery, which I guess they did for my sister as well.
We ended up spending more the stroller in the end too and getting the City Select instead of another we had picked out - that was alllllll DH though. haha

I had the second attempt at my anatomy scan but the babies didn't want to cooperate again. I was told I would need a fetal echocardiogram because she could not get all the pictures of the both babies hearts. It is scheduled for Monday, March 6th at 12:30. She told me it is common with twins, BUT I can't help but worry. Hannah's heart rate is lower every time I get a sono- so that adds to my worry (150 to 143 to 135) One week and I will be able to breath again.
Other than that i feel good (minus the normal body aches lol). My belly really popped into a big ball, and I'm not used to the extra weight so my body is feeling the effects. But I love being pregnant so I try not to complain too much lol
I still feel the babies move but in different ways now. No more flutters, they turned into kicks and nudges. I think I actually felt them moving (like flips) the other day. It's on and off, 'ore frequent at nights--- can't wait til it's all the time
QOTW: the only thing I bought so far was the rug for their room lol it was on sale for 65 dollars so I jumped at the deal. I still get hesitant to buy... plus I want to wait for my shower before I go crazy! I have a lot pinned though on Pinterest lol
I fully registered, so my mom and dad splurged and bought both cribs, both crib mattresses and both bedding sets! We are very fortunate for that! It all arrived this past week, but we are storing it for now!

I'm 24 + 6 weeks w/ 2 little boy. My next OB appt is in a few days. I'm w/ you @wifeinraleigh28 can't believe I'm getting close to moving on to the 3 trimester board in a few weeks.
As to the splurge I think our nursery in general. I did buy a $30 onsie (one for each twin). Too cute to pass on and I figured it would be one of the baby items I keep when they get older as a keepsake.
@JWatt5 - Funny I think my belly is lopsided too!
@Colleen0516 - I've read that babies heart rates naturally go down as the pregnancy progresses. I could be wrong...could have been something I picked up from Dr. Google. I had the fetal echo a couple weeks ago. Everything was fine for both twins on the heart end. One twin has mild kidney issues that in 1/3 of cases go away by week 32 so I'll go ahead and have another scan. (More common in boys then girls). Its mild so worse case scenario he'll need medications at birth to prevent UTIs. Unfortunately, its also a soft marker for downs. Since its the only indicator we've opted not to do an amnio but I still have that fear. Then again, even "normal" exams don't guarantee non-DS babies. Fingers cross babies cooperate during the fetal echo. BTW, I found the exam so uncomfortable b/c it took like 1.5 hours, all of which I was basically on my back. I actually got lightheaded. (Its basically the A/S all over again).
@wifeinraleigh28 - Hope your GD goes well those Girl Scout cookies are hard to resist!
Baby girl is doing well, lots of kicks and flips. I just hope she decides to settle head down eventually so that I can do a trial of labor for VBAC.
QOTW: What is one baby item that you have decided to (or plan to) splurge on?
I don't need a lot of gear but I kind of splurged on a k'tan and some newborn outfits. And a new A+A blankie.

I'm still sick every so often so I'm not putting on weight as fast... between 1 to 1.5 lbs a week. Anyone else have/having that issue?
I'm excited to rejoin a group since I was part of the 1st trimester check ins.
As for the QOTW: we're not big splurge spenders. I haven't yet found anything that I felt like ohmigoodness I need that. I'm sure once baby is here I'll see things and feel that way.
@JWatt5 Oh the chair for SURE is so important!! We got a really nice glider + ottoman from buy buy baby. It's taking FOREVER to come in but I'm super excited for it. Plus, I know we still have time so I need to chill. You spend so much time in that thing, and in the middle of the night too, so it's important for it to be comfortable!
@Colleen0516 I'm sorry your babies haven't been cooperating for the AS! We did a fetal echo as well and it was a piece of cake. I wouldn't worry about Hannah's heart rate going down, totally normal! 135 is still excellent and right around 20 weeks is when it starts to even out anyway. I feel like our baby's heart rate did the same thing until about 20 weeks and then it finally stopped going down each visit!
@JaneJane Have you tried the new smores cookie?! They're so good that I lose ALL self control around them!
@kdanjou What does a trial labor consist of? Good luck with the VBAC!
@ChristinaV2015 Welcome to the 2nd tri check-in! I'm too impatient to wait to find out gender, but I've heard from others who didn't find out that the excitement/anticipation you feel in the delivery room is so worth the wait!

I cannot believe this is my last week in the 2nd trimester! I am 27 weeks and 1 day. I am optimistic we will make it to next Sunday. I am in compete awe today. We had a scan to check baby boys brain because his ventricles had been enlarged. One dropped way down and the other about the same, so we are thinking its nothing. I also got the first 4d of him today. He has always hid his face and we havent got a profile before today. He is absolutely adorable! Baby girl cooperated as always. I am so happy we made it to 27 weeks and they both seem to be doing so good. I got upgraded rooms at the hospital to a corner room with more space and a better view!
QOTW: I havent had a chance to splurge on babies due to being in the hospital. I have bought alot of clothes but other than that I am hoping to know what we need and splurge after my shower in 3 weeks.

I'm 21 weeks this week with a very active little bean! I've gone from feeling nothing to really strong kicks that my partner can feel. I love the feeling, makes everything feel more real and it's constant reassurance
I've really popped out in the last week too, no hiding it anymore and I feel so much heavier.
I'm a little concerned as my A/S showed my cervix length at 30mm (1.18 inches). I had LLETZ surgery for a high grade abnormal pap smear a few years ago so now I have to go and meet with a specialist to see if that'd going to be a problem. Other than that I'm still feeling good, need to do more exercise but I'm worried about my cervix, maybe I'll just hang out on the stationary bike at the gym for a bit!
QOTW: No splurging yet but I think we'll end up splurging on a stroller. I want a mountain buggy terrain that is great for off-road walking and has an extra hand break (like a bicycle break) for going downhill. It's also the only stroller my partner liked as it fits both of us well. I'm holding off to see what sales come up for end of our financial year and Easter.
QOTW: Our big splurge (or someone's big splurge) will be our stroller. We decided on the Bugaboo Donkey since we know we will be going for number 2 not too long after and will eventually need a double. We like the way it converts from a single to double and all of the options for single and double seating positions. Also, the removable seat and bassinet will be very helpful since we are going for the convertible car seat option and not a travel system.
@Colleen0516 - So exciting you're feeling kicks and nudges! I can't wait to feel my LO. Hope all goes well with echocardiogram and the results help ease your worries.
@wifeinraleigh28 - GL on Glucose test!
Welcome to 2nd tri check-in! @ChristinaV2015
@MicronesianMamma I just picked up a back n belly pillow yesterday! Even though I love my snoogle, sleeping on my side just isn't working for me anymore with my awful carpal tunnel. Being on my back is the only way to keep it in check. I love that I can position the back n belly at an incline so it is comfortable to be on my back! Last night I slept SO much better (and thus so did DH). GL with your AS on Friday!

QOTW: i think my big purchase is going to be the glider/chair for the nursery just to make sure its a good quality, comfortable piece that will last.
QOTW - we are definitely splurging on our glider. I found one I love at BBB that is exactly what I wanted - glides and reclines and is in a fabric that can be used outside the nursery when that time comes.
@ChristinaV2015 - good to see you here! We are also not finding out the gender and I swear it stresses other people out so much you'd think it was their kid! Given our IF journey, this is likely it so I just want that 'surprise' factor in the delivery room. My DH wanted to find out but agreed not to- I'm not convinced he won't be STARING at the screen very intently next week. I've also had trouble with weight gain - just no appetite and food aversions. Luckily the appetite is coming back but, at my lowest during this PG, I was 15 lbs lighter than I was at transfer and I've only managed to gain about 6 of that back I gained 3 of that between my January and February appointment and they felt that was an okay rise. I knew a lot of my calories came from wine and this just proves it
@MicronesianMamma - welcome back to you too!
Good luck to all you ladies doing home renovations! The biggest thing we are attempting is the painting (but I have someone for that, I'd like to do more than the nursery and we just don't have the time) and the nursery closet organization of some sort.

QOTW: We don't have any big purchases planned at this point. We will wait til after our baby shower to see what we still need. My parents were kind enough to buy our crib and dresser for us and my MIL bought our travel system. We are super lucky to have such a supportive family.
@rmarble23 Congrats on v-day!! Before getting pregnant I had no idea of the monumental-ness of the 24 week milestone!

Plus friday is the day the new Nintendo Switch comes out. I preordered it and told my husband it was to ward off the bedrest spirits. lol He's not a gamer and I needed to rationalize spending so much money on a not baby related item.
QOTW: I don't know what to buy thats a splurge. I mean i need 2 of everything so it all seems like a splurge. Maybe a stroller? I do want a nice glider. I love one on amazon, but I'm worried it wouldn't be comfortable.

@christinav2015 I've gained a whopping 1.5-2lbs. I haven't been sick but my appetite has been definitely less than normal. Plus I'm really trying to eat healthy. I was slightly overweight prior to getting pregnant so I know my OB told me I may not gain weight as quickly or very much at all.
In other news, we have an accepted offer on a house! Now to get through the inspection, appraisal and such. We probably won't close till end of June, due to it's the end of the school year and the sellers want to wait till then. It makes me crazy that I won't be able to set up the nursery until a few weeks before.
QOTW: I would like to splurge on a really nice dresser from Room & Board that should last until he leaves the house! I'm more about buying nicer, long term items. My parents did mention that they would help with some of the furniture costs, yay!
I wouldn't poke with a finger in there but a flat palm won't hurt your little ones.
@mjacks16 Wow - you might already have a little one by the end of June! Not that they will know any different! Also good luck for your scan!
@beckij34 hope you feel better soon!!
I wanted to give an update. I started having contractions last night. They werent very consistent so they gave me some meds and fluids to calm it down hoping it was irritation. It seemed to have helped as I haven't had any in 4 hours. All I have to at is trust your instinct. I wasn't sure if I should call the nurse in because I couldn't quite tell what was going on. Thankfully I did because they were able to stop it. I hope they stay away, but I have a strong feeling we will be having two babies soon. im praying we make it to Sunday which is 28 weeks.
