Odd I counted more than 20 people that posted about their experience, apparently they saw a point. But please tell them there was no point again since they may have missed it the first time.
Pretty sure all I said was that I don't see a point. Not that others don't. It was just my personal opinion.
This argument is so over the top ridiculous I don't even know what to say. Stop being snowflakes. A TW has been added to the title. Don't open it if you have personal weight issues. This is meant to be fun, not tear anyone down. I'm guessing the argument was started to start the drama.
With dd I gained 60 lbs. I'm trying to stay in check this time. SO far at 19 weeks tomorrow I've gained 10lbs. Yay!
With DS I gained 60 lbs but didn't have any morning sickness. This time I didn't have morning sickness, just a lot of nausea and food aversions, so I lost about 8 lbs taking me from 140 to 133. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and weighed in at 143 this morning! So does that count as 10lbs or 3? Who knows but I'm fine with gaining weight as long as she's healthy- but the 60 I gained was my son was a little overboard! Few too many milkshakes
Move along then. Not everything is about you. There have been many threads started that aren't "fun" for me. I don't participate in them and scroll past them.
Because a thread learning about useless number on the scale is fun.
Obviously not for you. We get it. However, some of us actually get value from this discussion.
Ok, serious question. How? Your height and weight are probably nothing like anyone else here so your comparing to what, everyone else's weight? Because half of us are shorter or taller or maybe even the same height as you but we are all built different. So what value are you getting?
Thank you for adding the TW. Even just clarifying numbers will be discussed in the headline would've helped. For a community of women, I don't think it's a stretch that there are women who have had issues with this and numbers are a common trigger.
People are even lurking from other boards and commenting so it must be something worth clicking on haha @MrsLa3 I personally don't see value, fun, really didn't think anything of it at all. I liked everyone's honesty for those who wanted to contribute, but didn't expect it to offend so many either. I say we just let it fall off the front page and move on.
Thank you @MrsLa3 for continuing to complain about a post despite so many people here having already stated they enjoy talking about their experience and listening to others experiences as far as weight. Obviously every pregnancy and woman is different - as some women have already stated in the very differences in weight gain from one pregnancy to the other. This isn't a health thread, no one here is setting a standard for what one should be gaining or judging others on their gain or lack thereof.
Deliveries (med-free, epidural, csection or other), symptoms and mental health is different with each pregnancy and woman but there is still "value" in discussion. The goal here is simply to talk about our experiences. I haven't seen one post here using this as medical advice.
You don't see the value, great. Move along. Find a thread where you can compare apples to apples. Oh wait, there is no thread on here where that is remotely possible.

The same value others get from discussing superstitions people have told them and checking in with others who are changing weeks on the same day. Commiseration. I've gained more weight than I'm proud of and it's nice to see others in the same boat.
You obviously don't get any value from this post, but others of us do. You've made your point and I (along with others) disagree. This board is not run solely by one person. If a group of women that are here as active members get value from this post, the post does not do any harm. You and everyone else here are not required to read anything on this board. You don't find value in the post, don't read it. Simple as that.

I'll bite. I can read in my pregnancy books that women typically gain 25-35. But when I hear from real women their actual weight gain numbers, it makes it more tangible to me and gives me more perspective. Just like I enjoy reading people's birth stories knowing that mine is not going to be exactly the same. I just like hearing the range of experiences that are out there. And if someone is willing to share that information with me, I appreciate it.
Just because something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's not beneficial to others or it's "board clutter." I don't read or participate in the Babies' Sex or Gender Reveal threads because I couldn't give two sh*ts what the genitalia of my child will be. I'm not going to go into those places and scream "THIS ISN'T RELEVANT TO ME. STOP TALKING YOU GUYS." I don't let it bother me and move on. I suggest you do the same.

I'm 18 weeks, and I think I've gained about 10-11 pounds. I was underweight pre-pregnancy (5'5, 106 pounds), so I kinda expected it to happen. But I'm not thrilled about it.
Last Dr's appt I hadn't gained anything so I'm curious to step on the scale tomorrow. At the A/S the tech said she's healthy, right size for her 'age' etc. so even if I haven't gained much I'm not concerned. I don't trust my scale anymore so I don't bother stepping on it. I was already a bit overweight before getting pregnant and expected to balloon even more but for now I'm all baby. Which is nice. I'll see what my Dr says and go from there. I'm definitely eating a lot healthier since being pregnant anyways so I'm confident she's getting what she needs and I'm making some good diet changes in the process.

I was looking through old pictures, and found one of myself at 28-29 weeks last pregnancy. I swear my bump is nearly the same right now at 19 weeks. It's so weird how different it is the second time!
Ditto!!!
I'm 5'8" and started last pregnancy at ~135 lbs. I gained about 25 lbs total. I thought I was gaining too much/fast this time (12 lbs as of last appointment - next one is tomorrow). In Germany, you have a booklet called the "Mutterpass" that is like your medical record, and it has all pregnancies in it. I had rapid weight gain at this point last pregnancy, too - seeing that comparison on paper was helpful. It then leveled off.
Will be interested to see if it evens out this time, or not. Based on my interest in sweets this time, but not last, I have a feeling that I'm on track for a heavier end this time. Oh well!
I see weight as one *potential health indicator, of many. If I have a daughter, a value that I really want to instill in her is that her (and others') worth has zero to do with a number on a scale or a clothing tag. It's a very freeing feeling to give no fvcks about weight - mine or anyone else's.
@virginiaunicorn11 That mutterpass sounds kinda cool...though I would probably lose the damn thing! Pregnancy brain is outta control! I just can't believe how much earlier I popped! The weight gain has been ok, which makes me happy, but it looks like it ramped up at the end with DS, so we will see this time. It's annoying bc I need warmer maternity clothes this time than I did last time! DS was a July baby, too, so I thought I was all set. Nope!
So far at 19 weeks I'm up 5-7 lbs depending on water weight. I was 104 lbs pre pregnancy 5'3". With my son, I started off at 97 lbs and gained 43 lbs total. We're still breastfeeding so I think that's the only reason I'm slowly gaining this time compared to last when I gained 1 lb every week. Regardless, WERE GROWING HUMANS!!!
@karissa0307 how old is your son? I'm still nursing and omg it's so painful. Each latch almost makes me lose my breath. Hormones or teeth idk but I'm desperately looking for someone to tell me it will get better!!!
You know, I for the longest time thought TW meant ticker-warning, because people would occasionally post on mc/pl and warn people that they had babies or tickers in their siggy. But that was 7ish years ago, before everything needed a TW. So now when I see TW on random stuff, it takes me a while to understand... because hardly anyone has tickers these days.
I'm 5'7".
My first pregnancy I started at 135lbs. I ended at 175lbs, as I recall I gained slow and steady throughout the pregnancy. I came home from the hospital 180lbs (WTF) with a 7lb6oz baby. But they gave me so many fluids post delivery because I had a slight fever and they were worried I had an infection and extra fluids is the best easiest early intervention. I think I spent two weeks peeing every thirty minutes.
This pregnancy I started at 150lbs. I am (exactly half way tomorrow, in 4 hours, so not sure if you really want my weight today or not) currently 145lbs. Between m/s, no appetite, and three long colds all in the first trimester, I lost some weight and even though I am feeling better haven't gained anything yet. I have been trying to add extra calories when I can, but even with extra portions and milkshakes I've added in- still nada movement on the scale.
But, as many people have pointed out... The number on the scale means nothing, and probably no one here is the same height or weight as me in the entire bump universe.

First- all respect to people that are triggered by this. I hope that you didn't get sucked in to read this far. If you did, please take care of yourself (meant with all sincerity) and take this kind encouragement to step away.
Next- I appreciate the validation that all pregnancies are different. I also really like not knowing that applicability of the scale numbers (BMI, height, etc). That keeps me from comparing. The numbers are too arbitrary. My gain is pretty low right now, but last time I gained 3-5 lbs a week during the last 5 weeks. I worried almost the whole time that I was not gaining enough and LO would be negatively impacted (severe m/s). Then, I suddenly worried that I was gaining too much too quickly. My doc was never concerned about any of it. Baby and I were just fine in the end.

Don't worry too much about gaining. I've known a few ladies who only gained 5 lbs, and the babies born were around 7 lbs. Baby will take what he/she needs. This isn't just for the 20 week mark. I put "halfway point" because while I am not quite yet half way (two more weeks) many of us are. So it's more AROUND the halfway point.
I am happy for this topic. As a first time mom, I didn't gain much weight at all at first. I was on a vegan cleanse likely our first 4 weeks so my starting gate is a little umm not certain. I gained maybe 5-6 lbs (but my weight fluctuated due to the cleanse so maybe more like nothing) the first 16 wks. Then, I gained 8-9 lbs from wk 16-20. I know that's a lot....so it's been a worrisome not gaining weight at all.....and being very sick and then....woah it happened and I hope its ok all at once (the doc kind of commented, well that's a lot at once).
Total, I am up 10-15 lbs...again depending how you count it.
I wasn't going to post because I wasn't sure that I wanted to put out there what I'm doing weight wise, but it definitely did comfort me to see such a range. I was actually talking weight with my mother this morning on the drive in to work. She gained 50 lbs with me and I'm 18 weeks and still down 3 from my pre-pregnancy weight. It has me very worried because I have my A/S on 3/10 and I fear that my baby will measure small. I have a host of issues that would contribute to that, but it really did help me to see that others haven't gained a lot either regardless of whether or not you (general you) are exactly 20 weeks/halfway.
I've struggled with weight my entire life, but I found this thread helpful personally, regardless of BMI/height etc. I doubt that I'm the only 5'1" person here that's overweight. Thankfully, I've put on a couple pounds the last two weeks, so I'm extremely hopeful that I can meet my doctors goal for gaining another 4 lbs in the next 6 weeks.
So far I am still in the negatives for weight gain but I was super sick and I am also overweight for my height as well. With that being said my first pregnancy with twins I didn't start gaining until 20 weeks or so and I gained fast so I am prepared for that to happen this time as well. I was well under my pre-pregnancy weight by 6 months pp so I try not to worry too much about the gains or lack of gains unless the Dr. is concerned.
@maybeitsmadeline if it's reassuring at all, I was down 2 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight (although that was a bit fluffy from FET) at my anatomy scan at 18+6, and baby was actually measuring ahead at 19+change! I'm now at 20+3 and up another pound or two so things seem to be picking up now.
So I mentioned this and my frustration a little bit in my Weekly exercise thread check in but I have gained about 17 pounds so far at the halfway mark (21w). The frustration comes from the fact that I work out six days a week from 60 to 75 minutes at a time and challenging workouts basically similar to what I was doing before just not quite as heavy on weights and I eat healthy even track my food to check in to make sure I am still on track. In addition to that I work 3 active jobs getting 12k up to 20K steps a day! Nevertheless It looks like I am on track to gain the max for this pregnancy of 35 pounds.
Now this is my second pregnancy. My first pregnancy I start at 25 pounds heavier than I started this one. I was not remotely working out like I am now or before and I ate healthy but not as healthy as I am now. I only gained 15 pounds. It looks like I will end up at the same weight for both pregnancies despite every controllable metric in this pregnancy indicating that I should not be gaining this much. The only difference is that my first pregnancy was a girl and this one is a boy.
So basically weight gain during pregnancy is sometimes a bunch of bull crap.

Yeah. This is me. I weighed in this week and I'm up more than I actually originally though. I'm 17w as of yesterday and I'm officially up 16lbs. I was 85lbs heavier last time and I never exercised or watched what I ate. I gained a total of 25lbs with dd.
This baby is a boy and I'm already up 16lbs. I alternate the elliptical and running 4 days a week and, for the most part, I eat healthy. I'm nervous to see what my ending weight is going to be. It really does help me feel better to see I'm not the only one, though.
@Chamomile That's great! I appreciate the feedback. It's been weighing heavy on my mind. I talked to someone with similar issues that I'm facing and their baby was born at 40 weeks only weighing 4 lbs 6 oz which scared me half to death. I've really tried to up my nutrition and reading your post makes me feel much better. Only 17 days until my scan!
I have been amazed at the difference between this pregnancy and my first. Im 5'8 and started pregnancy 1 at 145 and pregnancy 2 at 142.I've been working out 6 to 7 days per week. First time I didn't gain any weight until after the first tri (no ms). This time I gained about 5 pounds literally over a weekend before I even knew I was pregnant. At 18.5 weeks I'm up close to 15 pounds. This time last pregnancy I was at about half that amount. I gained 31 pounds last time and lost it quickly and of course was hoping for a similar result this time. I am concerned I'll gain quite a bit more at this rate despite the exercise and reasonable diet. I appreciate hearing from others going through similar struggles. I never imagined this pregnancy could be so different.
@livlew fellow August 17 lurker, cuz y'all are WAY more active than our boards! I loved the pregnancy weight calculator too! I was feeling sooooo self conscious and freaked out after no morning sickness and constant eating to relieve my CONSTANT nausea. I felt like a total fat piece of shit. But for my tall height I'm right where I should be. Totally helped with my self loathing!
When I was pregnant with my son around the middle of third trimester I started to really gain weight(3lbs per week). I had been steadily putting on maybe a lb per week up until that point, so I was very concerned about it and brought it up to my doctor and he asked if I had been indulging or changed my diet recently and when I told him no that I've been keep my diet pretty consistent and he told me that sometimes during pregnancy some women's metabolism actually will slow down significantly.
I never knew that but honestly it was really good for me to hear because I was really starting to think I needed to be even more careful about what I ate. Pregnancy does weird shit to our bodies and it's really hard to understand that when we thinks we have are doing all the right things to stay fit.
@JAM85 I would be frustrated too! Each pregnancy and the hormones that go with it are so different. I can already see more swelling this pregnancy then with my twins. With DS (first pregnancy) it was similar. I eat fairly healthy and just try to keep in mind my body is going to do what it will do. I also left the hospital weighing the same as I went in with both pregnancies but lost most of it fairly quickly and was down to pre pregnancy weight by 8-12 weeks. Hormones and water retention are crazy!
This pregnancy I am up about 6-8lbs at 17 weeks. I'm 5'2 and was 117 at the start, I seem to fluctuate between 123-125. Hoping to stay close to a 25lb total. After my twins my legs and butt stayed too thin (they took all of my fat/muscle ) for my taste, happy to see them filling back out.
