Re: March IVF

  • Yes, I think what @caseyw8784 is right.  I think ER is like "ovulation."  At least that's what I assumed since we trigger to induce ovulation.  I think if you're not doing a transfer your period comes around the same time.

Hopeful_mom - AF is your uterus lining shedding, so it's unrelated to having eggs or not. I know that because I don't cycle on my own = no AF. But if I take BCP, it provides my body with enough estrogen to grow the lining, so I get AF even though there are no eggs involved at all. Normally, estrogen is produced when the eggs are maturing => lining starts growing in preparation. After ovulation estrogen drops, lining stops growing, and then sheds away after some time.
My AF came 10 days after ER, I heard it can be earlier if you do different kind of trigger (I did hCG).

  • @caseyw8784 @FuzzyDust @LoveDontCostAThing ladies always so helpful thanks... so interesting how the body works.  I feel like when they explain the process of getting pregnant, then egg releases and when the egg doesn't fertilize it continues on and we get AF.  Probably why the lining is always an important factor through this process.  If AF comes that quickly then me wanting to do a fresh transfer with a tested embryo in the next cycle probably isn't possible...hmmmm

  • @Hopeful_mom so what the said exactly is 1 isn't at the level they like to see so it's pretty much out of the race, 2 fragmented when the cells divided yet are at the correct level so idk if they are still ok to be used or not, then the other 3 are at the correct level with no fragmentation...idk I pray they are still good by tomorrow...our transfer is at 8am and I'm seriously considering that if only 2 are ok then maybe I'll put both in me...my doctor just wanted to transfer 1 but I'm really leaning towards 2
  • Hi everyone! I'm late to the board! I've been reading through trying to catch up!

I'm currently stimming for my 2nd IVF cycle. My first one was in January and only resulted in 3 blasts from 15 eggs that were retrieved. 2 were frozen on day 6. We transferred one on day 5 but obviously I'm not pregnant, so I'm going through again trying to get better embryo development this time.  I'm on low dose hcg 10 iu, 150 iu of follistim, and ganirelix. I have pcos and typically have 50 BAF's so we are planning a Lipton trigger and freeze all. I'm currently on day 6 of injections. My ovaries are really starting to ache!
  • Rachel_leigh22 i totally understand where u r coming from!  I'm not that familiar when they are fragmented.  We want strong healthy babies so its better that the strongest step to the front.  Sounds like you have 3 going strong!  Hoping you can transfer 2 tomorrow, best of luck!

Hillpow hi and welcome!  Sorry your first cycle didn't go as planned!  Hopefully cycle 2 will be a better result for u!  Its exciting you know u have 2 frosties in waiting!

@hopeful_mom Thank you! We got 2 fertilized and RE thinks there may still be a late fertilization. I’m praying those two will continue to divide. We are looking at doing 3 day transfer and have spoken about transferring just 1 this time.

I admire your strength, with all you’ve gone through you are back at it, it’s truly admirable! It’s natural to have your thoughts taking you back, don’t try to shut those thoughts, turn them into support for your strength. You can do it and I look forward to hearing your updates as you go!

  • Ok so here it is: got the call literally 2min before I left the house (just as I finished 40oz of water) the embryos aren't ready yet...I mean what the hell does that mean?! So they're waiting to see the progression tomorrow then freezing them and transferring next cycle....I don't think they will servive the thaw I mean I only have 3 that look ok and they're obviously wimpy ones...devitstated doesn't even begin to describe what I'm feeling today....so I guess I'll b April ivf, maybe

  • @Rachel_leigh22 - i don't know if i get that....how can they tell if the embryos are "ready" or not? Please remind me, is this a day 3 or 5 transfer? This may make me sound naive, but wouldn't it be better to proceed with the best looking ones?
  • @Rachel_leigh22 -hey, I am so sorry for that news.  Why can't they transfer tomorrow if progression looks good?  Sounds confusing to me that they wouldn't transfer tomorrow.  Sounds like maybe they didn't give you a lot of information...correct me if I am wrong.  If they didn't give you enough info, call and demand more!  This is your body/mind/emotions going through all of this.  I'm so sorry, and I hope you get more information.

@caseyw8784 -4 tested, "normal" blasts?  That sounds really good to me!

    @Angelaag -good luck with trigger!

AFM, I am now 7dp5dt of two blasts.  I am feeling very crampy/ dull ache now.  I have had cramping everyday since transfer.  It's so hard to know what is the from the crinone vs. not.  Currently I am very tired and my lower back hurts a little.  My DH thinks I'm impatient (with everything) and says I shouldn't test yet.  He wants to wait until Monday, the day before my beta.

Rachel_leigh22 I know its scary and disappointing!  I'm sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for.  Why don't you think they'll survive the thaw?

Angelaag good luck with ur trigger, I find i need to set alarms for all this stuff too.

caseyw8784 I think those are great results!  I have low amh so I get excited at 3 and above ;)  Praying they all come back normal!!  Are you doing another cycle and banking or straight to transfer?

IfYouCanDreamIt thanks so much for the support its greatly appreciated!  Its hard cause I can't discuss it with OH, in his world they weren't "real" cause I wasn't over the threshold of the 1st trimester.  He missed the last US and I explained I saw wiggling toes it didn't need to get "realer" for me then that.  He experienced MC with his ex so its just hard.  I'm not angry with him...even though I am ;) but it just means all the thoughts i do have he doesn't want to hear.  I know its because it then takes him to a bad head space and he doesn't want to give in to the thoughts...especially when I need his head on straight for this cycle!  Ur update sounds positive, would be great for the other to get on board!!  Why don't you want to transfer 2?

AFM:  Had my US this morning and I was a bit disappointed.  Left is showing 13.5, 9, 7, 5.5, and a 4 (shes being my champion this round) my right had 2 on thursday and now today she just saw one :(  its maybe at a 7 so we're not sure if its growing or not ugh!!!  I'll be adding the cetritide in earlier this cycle probably so my 13.5 stays at bay and hopefully the smaller ones can catch up!!  Seeing how this cycle is going seems i'm going to have to do another month of this ugh!!  Its times like these I wish I could've talked to my younger self to just go freeze eggs!!
Feeling a bit discouraged after todays US.  Why couldn't I just still be pregnant with my twins and be done.  I think thats the tougher part of having low amh, and being older you're not making 20 eggs to play with, I have to pray I can get 5.  I thought EPP would've given me a lil more and its really not so I guess i'm just a lil down about it.  AND that 13 can screw up the whole thing.  Its sometimes better not being knowledgeable so you don't stress and worry as much through the process!

  • @LoveDontCostAThing - sorry, I'll clarify: yesterday they biopsied and froze 4 day-5 blasts and sent them to the lab to be pgd+pgs tested. we should find out in about 10-ish days which ones are genetically and chromosomally "normal." I was hoping to have more blasts to biopsy, since they said to be prepared for about 1/2 of them to be affected by the single gene disorder we are trying to avoid. The rational/logical part of me know that 4 is still a good place to start, and even if we get 1 or 2 normal-tested embryos, we would still be lucky!
  • @Hopeful_mom - we were hoping to go straight into a FET. we will talk with my RE once we get the results back. hopefully if we have any good ones, we will do the FET and hope it takes, and then just do another ivf cycle in the future.
  • @caseyw8784 -got it.  4 is still okay...if 2 are perfect--you know they say it only takes one :)  Good luck!!

  • @Hopeful_mom - we retrieved 13, 11 were mature, and 10 fertilized = 4 blasts. i know that this seems to be the "typical" fall-off rate, at least from what i've seen here on the bump with around the same number of eggs retrieved. what day are you on for stims? when do you think you'll have your ER? FX for awesome eggs!

  • @caseyw8784 they said they are growing slowly and aren't where they would like them to be to sustain a pregnancy...it would have been a day 5 transfer but will now be a FET...they said the embryos won't be in sync with where my uterus is and my body would pretty much reject them
  • edited March 2017
@LoveDontCostAThing I asked the same question, they said the progression of my uterus won't match that of my embryos and that they won't stick. They gave me a ton of info it's just so much to process and to type out  they are going to call tomorrow to let me know how they are doing and how many they can freeze! FX for all 3 of them doing well and that they all survive the thaw
  • @Hopeful_mom I don't think they will survive because of how slow and weak they seem :(

@Rachel_leigh22 keep your head up, remember its ok to be frustrated and disappointed but don't give up!  When my results from ER came back I was so disappointed after everyone was highfiving me at the clinic and saying that things looked great.  24 down to 3 was a hard pill to swallow. I sent out thoughts to those three lil embies whenever they popped into my mind "grow strong.... grow normal"..... "divide! do what you are programmed to do!". I know it's hokey and lame and totally in my own mind that it could have been helpful, but ultimately, it was.... for me AND (I like to think) my 1 lil embie that made it to day 5 to be banked.

@PoeMasque WOW! Great results! The 5 day wait was def tougher for me than having the ER (first time ever for a hospital procedure so I was super nervous anyway) FX for growth and a good number in a few more days!

@Hopeful_mom just read your age aint nothin' but an AMH level and LOL'd. I think if my RE said 'why didn't you start earlier' I would have went across the desk at him!  FX for growth. I forget, did you (on this board or the Apr IVF one) ask about using donors? DH and I haven't talked much about this, more about adoption, but have a close friend who went this route and have an amazing daughter because of it.  Was this something you and OH discussed (sorry to pry, just relevant since you and I are the wise sages of this board haha)

AFM, trying to 'live' a little before i start meds again. Hubby and I went out to dinner last night, earlier in the week celebrated my very good annual review (guess where that bonus is going?) and generally trying to catch up on housework and prepping the garden by starting seeds in our greenhouse. So far: 8 varieties of tomatoes, 2 tomatillos, 7 hot peppers, kale, lettuce, cabbage, leeks, herbs and broccoli & romanseco.  Today I will plant a few more early starts and we will board game for the afternoon. Yes, old nerds we are, yes. :)
  • @Rachel_leigh22 -Ugh I'm sorry.  That sucks, but I guess it makes sense the whole uterus thing.  They spend a lot of time preparing our lining, etc. to be receptive.  I hope they survive the thaw!

@PoeMasque -ummm yea, after retrieval I took way too much mirilax and stool softeners...this last time I took like half or a quarter the amount!  At least it works!

@lizycs and @LoveDontCostAThing - woo-hoo ladies! those all look promising! FX for the lines getting darker... when are both your betas??

@cmiller73 - oh, how i envy you and your garden! living in the city it's hard to have enough space/sun to have a real garden. In the past I was decently successful with a raised bed and some tomatoes and mini cucumbers on my roof deck, but it was always so windy that the trellises kept blowing over! :anguished: I can't wait until we move into the suburbs where i'll have enough space for a garden!
  • @caseyw8784 -my beta is on Tuesday ...FX

  • Hi Ladies, so i spoke with my nurse the other day. We are waiting to hear back about the pgd/pgs testing, and I wanted to talk with her about the next steps for FET. Turns out their office likes us to wait a full cycle after the ER before the FET, so it looks like it will be a early/mid May FET now...boo! Based on when I'm expecting AF in the next week or so, and a normal cycle, I'll probably be starting the Estrace and PIO sometime in mid/late April, so at least I won't have to sit and do nothing but twiddle my thumbs until May...
  • @caseyw8784 Hi _ I hear what you are saying, My ER is scheduled on 28th (on day 4th currently of injections) and my doctor says we must do frozen instead of fresh because give the best results. That means sometime in May like you. It is just a loooong wait... I may also do another retrieval to bank some more embryos for baby 2 if that is possible...that would mean transferring in august...seriously? It is just a patience exercise as well as mental strength...

I am developing the worst red burning skin on one side, thinking it is early cellulitis. Any suggestions to help get rid of this so I don't have to stop the PIO and go on antibiotics??

So looking forward to hear everyone else's success stories of this clearing on its own!! I am set to do these injections up to 11 weeks if al goes well. FX!
