  • Oh no @Elyse1384!  I just drove to work only to turn around and drive home (45 minute commute) because I *thought* I was feeling better but got hit with another wave as I got to work.  It's the bug that won't die...

  • @LMMama my father is trying to push his tradition of naming the grandson with the paternal grandfather's name... he was annoyed, somewhat, that we didn't name either of our twin boys after him - we actually used his father's (my paternal grandfather's name) for one of them as we really like it and it honored my brother, father, and grandfather with it being either their first or middle name... but here is what makes no sense to me... I have a younger brother who isn't married/has no kids (yet)... isn't this something for my brother to do?  I don't get why it is something my dad is having his feelings hurt over when I'm the daughter, I think DH or my FIL has more right to try to push for a name than my dad but w/e.
  • @michaela0704 I agree it's something I would think would be pushed on your brother more than you. The name they want us to use is very lengthy and we just don't like it. We're using my DF's first name (so his name, his dad's name, his grandfather/great grandfather's first name) as the middle. Isn't that enough?
  • I had to hike around to three different copy machines before I found a working on this morning.  Teacher problems.

  • @LMMama We escaped this issue by conceiving a girl but there was talk of the name being passed down since DH and I first got serious in college. He also doesn't love his first name and would've never given it to a son.

@kassyfry and @awillis13 count me on the stomach bug train.  The past 72 hours have been a blur.  Cleaning up toddler bodily fluids... DH bodily fluids... then having to clean up after my own vomit-o-rama.  Ah the joys of motherhood.  Puke and then bust out the bleach.  No one ever takes care of mom...  :(

Ugh, you poor thing!!  That is quite literally the worst. We have had that happen at least once of each of the last two winters and I am just praying we can get through this year without it!!

  • @awillis13 Oh that's the worst!  I didn't even make it out the door yesterday before the "nope nope nope" train put a stop to my progress.  I hope you feel better soon. I'm about 1/2 alive today, but at least food is staying down.

Question for any moms of toddlers and older kids.  So my DS was always a great eater (not picky and solid quantity of food).  For the past 1/2 year now, he barely eats a thing!  We've tried everything to get the boy to eat.  Even foods he loves and asks for, he'll take 1 or 2 bites only to then say he is full.  In a year, he has gained 1lb, but nothing during the past 6 months!  I've called the pedi's office multiple times now, but they keep saying as long as he isn't lethargic, sick, complaining of pains, not hitting development milestones, etc then he is probably fine (he has grown 3" in the past year I should note).  Am I going batshit crazy... is this "normal" 3yo behavior?  I see the pediatrician in March for his annual, but I'm starting to think maybe I just need to bust in there anyway.  Whyyyy won't the boy eat!  Has anyone else had a young child do this and all was fine?
  • @Elyse1384 the thing that has helped us the most with expanding my son's food repertoire has been the most overpriced plate.  But it's totally worth it.  The Dinner Winner plate.  It looks like a board game, and we can put new foods in between old foods, with a prize at the end.  I start with just giving him 1 bite of said new food and the rest of the squared preferred foods and then slowly expand it to more and more of the plate.  We literally make a game out of it.  I give him his plate of food and we talk about the "rules" - how many bites he needs to eat from each square to get his prize.  (He has high functioning Autism, so that impacts his eating).

  • @Elyse1384 To me it sounds like he is fine. He is in between growth spurts and as long as he is eating what you put in front of him, even if it is a couple bites, it's fine.

I wonder if this will change at his next growth spurt.

  • @awillis13 I'll definitely give that a try!  We're so desperate and I'm shocked that the pedi's office doesn't seem as concerned.  This just seems to have come out of nowhere this summer.

I know their stomachs are a lot smaller than ours, but he always ate soooo much before this started. His baby sister out eats him, but you think that is OK?  I mean she is in a different place from a development perspective.  He is my first so I've never been through the toddler years before.  I feel like I'm stumbling around in the dark on this one!
  • @Elyse1384, does he graze a lot, like a few small snacks throughout the day?

I know right now we are dealing with this a little bit. DD3 is almost 3, she's a pretty good eater normally, but lately has been a grazer. She will eat a little at breakfast, a little at lunch and no dinner. In the interest of keeping her fed, DH will give her snacks which she tends to eat better than a meal.

However, literally last night, she ate her entire dinner and today two breakfasts and all of her lunch.

I do think it is normal. I also recall DD2 going through a similar food phase.
  • My kid on the regular lives like Bunmi Laditan's (check her out on fbook if you don't know her) fictitious book "Thriving on 50 calories a day". He is so stubborn and if he doesn't want to eat, he will not eat.

  • @Stankonia2014 That's the strange part.  He used to snack a lot before the food strike began, but now he doesn't even snack much.  I swear if we didn't offer food throughout the day, he just wouldn't eat!  It makes me feel a bit better to hear you've had your DDs go through this phase and I'm hoping that is just what it is with him.
  • @Elyse1384 I would just keep notice of his weight. If he continues to grow, even if it is just a lb, I would say he is ok. If he starts loosing weight, yea I would be more concerned.

Now there is nothing like mother's intuition, so if you want to schedule a doc appt for piece of mind, I say go for it.

@Elyse1384 my oldest was a great eater as a baby/toddler and then at 3 was pretty picky, and didn't eat a lot. It lasted about a year. Now he's eating a ton, always seems to be hungry. I think it's normal for them to go through growth spurts, and then have times where they aren't growing as much, so don't need as much to eat. I also made my son a "maze" of food on a piece of construction paper instead of buying that plate. I put each bite of food inside a silicone cupcake liner.
  • I thought I was on the wrong board when I got on and saw the Ramzi post on top . Like maybe I clicked on August or something? So I got out and back in and there is was.  Good times lol.
  • @JAGinMI I definitely stop what I'm doing and enjoy it! Even with two and feeling quite a bit of movement, I still always put my hand there and just pause. It's so nice at this stage!
  • Alright... I'm splurging on myself a little tomorrow and going in for a real deal facial at a doctor's office, no pampering focus just get my face/complexion in check!

I've only had a facial at a spa, maybe 3 or 4 times in my life... and the extractions were just so-so... they were very relaxing but my face was never red or puffy, and I never saw too much change.

I'm thinking the extractions are going to be beneficial and done well but I'm super nervous about afterward and how my face will be... anyone have any advice or experience?
  • True story: I do not have a primary care doctor and haven't since my pediatrician. So I guess she is still it? I know it is irresponsible and one of these days I am going to end up having to go to the emergency room for something totally stupid, I just can never get motivated to find a doctor and we keep moving before I get around to it. Plus I have been either pregnant, post partum, or dealing with infertility constantly for the last several years, so my obs have been willing to manage stuff like UTIs. But seriously, I am 28 years old and me pediatrician still has my main medical records. That's embarrassing.

So I don't know if y'all watch FRIENDS or not..... It is my all time favorite show.  My friends IRL make fun of me all the time because I related everything to friends.....  For those of yall who are also FRIENDS-fanatics, I am sure you remember the episode where Ross still sees his pediatrician.  WELL... although my doctor is not a pediatrician, he is a family doctor, I have seen him since I was an infant.  I just got his intention to retire letter in the mail.

    WHAT WOULD ROSS DO?!?!?!!?

My old OBGYN, who I was OBSESSED with, decided to leave the practice to be a SAHM for a few years.  I got the letter in the mail when DD was about 6 months old, and I was still EBF and all hopped up on hormones, and I cried about it.  I don't cry about anything.  I was crushed.  She was young, like 34-35 years old probably.  more power to her for being able to walk away from a private practice job to be home with her kids.  her husband must make bank.  maybe he is also a doctor, who knows.

I mean I love my new doctor too, she's the one at the practice that actually delivered DD.  but I was still super broken up about it.  It took me 4 years after college to find an OBGYN I actually liked and then she abandoned me!  WHY!!

  • @EmeraldNC I am OBSESSED with friends! I love when Rachel walks in with Emma in that episode and catches him getting his lollipop!

On that note- I still go see my regular dentist in MI 2x a year when I go home to visit.... and I moved to Nashville 5 years ago lol

My mom is at my house watching one of our dogs who had surgery on Monday and I know she is going to clean it up for me and I know some people would hate that, but man I am excited to come home to a spotless house!!  It was super clean for my daughters party Saturday, but had gotten away from me a bit the past few days.  My mom is awesome.
My mom watches my son, and she does dishes and laundry at times. We are also trying to sell our house so she helps us get ready last minute with everything and cleans. It's amazing.

  • So long story short, my mom and I have a very up and down relationship. She's good with my kids, but is just a very selfish person and I harbor some resentment. Right now we are on the outs.

I had a little bit of a panic attack last night thinking about what we will do when LO decides to come. She's watched the other girls for us when we were induced, but I literally don't have anyone else if she and I are on the outs still or again. My BFF lives 45 mins away, but has her own kids and can't just leave on a whim. My grandma is too old, etc.

All of this came about because a friend's water broke and they didn't have time to wait for her ILs to come, so they went to the hospital kids in tow and her H had to sit with the kids and missed the birth.

I'm just venting. I'm also such a planner (read: control freak) that when things are left in the air, I panic.
  • @Stankonia2014 I am sorry you have such an unstable relationship with her.  I hope that you guys can mend things for the time being and by the time baby arrives.  I also hate things being up in the air like that so I totally get where you are coming from.  <3

  • @Stankonia2014 that does sound stressful...  could you just call her when it's time even if you were on the outs?

Is there an option to just interact for a minute or 2 and settle on a plan for when you go into labor/go in to be induced?  Don't have to be all lovey dovey or try to build the relationship back... just focus on the plan for your kids... maybe she might be less selfish when it is about her grandkids and not y'alls relationship.
  • @Stankonia2014 I know how you feel, my mom and I have a rocky relationship as well and I am also a planner to put it nicely.. lol. I hope that if y'all are on the outs when the time comes that she can set aside your differences and think about what's best for her grandchildren. Good luck, I wish I had some advice to offer  :/

  • @FSUNole31, @michaela0704, @BellaO21, thank you. I know it's really dumb because we have plenty of time. I'm hoping to mend fences before then, but if not I don't know if she'll be an option. She's pretty spiteful, but maybe she'll surprise me.
  • Does anyone else have their belly button pierced? Are you going to leave it in, get a pregnancy ring or just take it out and let us close up? I also heard you can take it out and just run a ring through it once a day or even every other day if you've had it awhile. I got mine at 16. Funny side story actually... DH and I dated in high school and he was not the nicest back then. We broke up, my mom took me to get it pierced to cheer me up and then threatened that she would rip it out in my sleep if we got back together! And now we are married and I still have my belly ring haha Also, is it just weird to be 30 with a pierced belly button? I've had it half my life and I look super weird without it.
