My husband wants to plan a Yert trip (not even sure if I spelled that right!) for August 3. It's like camping in a teepee. I told him that he can go with our son but I would rather stay home since we would have a newborn. He started researching how they have cribs and we can take the baby. Umm...I'm sorry, but I'm not taking a 2-3 week old camping. And I can definitely say that would not be fun for me!
That sounds absolutely miserable. How could he think that would be enjoyable for anyone? Granted, I love the outdoors but am not a sleep outside type person so camping sans baby still sounds like hell to me. The only 'camping' I do is at a Waldorf Astoria.
I know everyone is different, and my experience is not really the best to base anything on, but I had a c section, severe depression, and couldn't imagine leaving the house or putting on pants for at least a month, if not 2 after my daughter was born. Camping? No.
I would never camp, though, so there's that. I've never once peed outside.
I have never been camping but have peed outside MANY TIMES?!?! Omg what does this make me?? LOL I'm questioning every life decision I have ever made! Ha
I grew up on a farm in rural WV and everything. Just nope.

So, any PGALers in here? I need ladies to tell me I'm being dumb...Both yesterday and today for a little while I've had cramping (yesterday it went away after drinking water)...No bleeding at all. I remember having BAD cramps with my daughter (and bleeding, actually), so I KNOW it doesn't mean anything necessarily, but...this is around the time we lost the last baby, so...ugh.

@GlitterFish I think I'd be over that drive by 36 weeks pregnant, but I would still work from home. I work from home for an employer and I worked until I went into labor. Everyone is different, but it kept my mind busy.

I love rough camping, but I'm with ya here! No thanks hubby. There's always next summer.
@SPurp13 haha I don't drink coffee but seriously I'm no super hero! My last c section was way different than my first. My first I didn't move off my couch for probably 3 weeks other than the occasional lap around the living room. Maybe number two was easier because I was totally expecting it to be way worse especially wth a toddler.
And after 2 days of teaching art I'm starting to love it! Especially since I only have to teach one lesson for the entire week since every day I get different classes.

You all are making me nervous about having a hard labor or getting a csection then dealing with a toddler afterwards. Dh "says" he is going to take two weeks off but he said that last time and took 4 days and we were at the hospital for two and a half of them.

I grew up in rural Midwest! When you are four wheeling in the sticks, and you have to pee.....what else do you do?! LOL

Give me his number. Dude needs to be there for you and your/his baby. That's BS.
@morgarita you got this. My husband was back at work before I was even out of the hospital and spent his evenings working on a commercial property we owned. He would carry the babies down stairs (newborn and 1 year old) in the morning and that was about it. My best advice is get your "living area" set up as best you can before baby. - everything is toddler proof (get a couple new toys for them to keep them more entertained when you first get home), all the gear is set up and convienent, and you have a place to relax and hold the little one. I had a swing, bassinet, pack n play with changing station and breast pump set up and the most I usually had to do was hobble to the kitchen to grab a snack or food for me or the toddler.
This is time around I am expecting the same thing, but I will have a 3 and 2 year old, will be recovering from my third c-section and my husband will probably have some project he is working on top of going back to work the next day - my expectation is to expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised if he helps out. And my favorite use for the bobby was a belly protector from active toddlers.
@virginiaunicorn11 if he goes back right away I'm gonna need you to call him! He only gets paid 8 hours if he's using pto but usually makes 10-20 hours if he's there even tho he only works 7ish hour days. So he feels like he's not making money.
@Dcwtada I am coping this advice so I remember when baby comes. And genius with the boppy! Going down to get it now!
@morgarita@Dcwtada Not having any help in that first week especially sounds really rough! That would create some major resentment if it were me. This is not okay and makes me mad on your behalf. I understand not being able to take off work especially if money is an issue but that in no way absolves them from pitching in and helping you out especially overnight.
Why am I the only one awake at this ungodly hour? I wish I never opened HDBD. I cannot unsee what I have seen and I feel assaulted by too much skin in the middle of the night. Who are these people popping up in that thread?
@caribbeanmama I don't want to show my face in HDBD pictures let alone my bare skin. Also I've been up since 2...I read a whole book in that time while I laid here thinking about how shitty my day will be, being so tired.

There were boobs - why! Face palm! I need to gif! What book did you read?
@caribbeanmama - i saw that... does she post here? The name doesn't look familiar to me. I feel like we get so many random trolls here. Reading the May and June alpaca threads makes it sound like we have a higher %age of crazy but it feels more like someone is just punking us and sending crazies our way.
@caribbeanmama I knew what I was getting into with him. He is the hardest working person I know but is absolutely terrible at being a caretaker. If I need help with the kids he wants me to hire a babysitter or something. This was last month when he had to watch the babies for all of an hour so I could run to the store:
Wow that's a complete reversal. Any allergy mamas here to comment on that? We don't have any allergies here in our families so I'm personally okay with this but wondering how allergy families feel about this
We started swiping PB on the inside of DD's cheek around 7 months. She was in the low risk category.
Because of the holiday I have a random, rare day off when DD is in daycare today. I'm going to drive 30 minutes to the mall, get my eyebrows threaded, and maybe get a pretzel and orange Julius like the BAMF I am.
...I miss DD.

Our Pediatration recommended we do this at 6-8 months. He said: get 'dry' salt free basic peanuts, crush 1 or 2 tiny pieces into a purée food you already know they don't have an allergy to. Watch for reaction. Repeat and slowly add more peanut if no reaction happens. I guess the early exposure helps?! We were lucky with no allergies yet. DS is now 15 months and loves peanut butter jelly sandy day!!
ETA: I have a serious shellfish allergy. If chicken is cooked in small about of oyster sauce, look out!!! And weirdly, as an adult, I was always told by my doctor not to chance anything for myself because the allergic reaction can get worse every time! I also tried shellfish for the first time in my late 20's!!
Is this new? I thought this was the recommendation when DS was born 2.5 years ago. Maybe it wasn't a formal recommendation then, just a "some studies have shown..." We gave him peanut butter on banana slices pretty early. Maybe around 8 months. It was one of his first non-puree foods.

Not new. Perhaps just taking a while to percolate through the network. Change takes time sometimes.
@AdaByron I'm assuming it just became the "official" recommendation. I'm also glad to hear you started your LO around 8 months. This sounds crazy, but I think one of DH's biggest parenting fears is a peanut allergy - mainly because we consume an insane amount of peanut butter. Poor guy keeps trying to get me to eat more, you know, to "prevent" allergies in the baby. Boys...
Regarding the peanut allergy- we have no family history of food allergies but the advice given to me was it's easier on mom when the baby gets older. Such as having a 6 month old with anaphylaxis or any kind of allergy compared to a 2 year old. It just doesn't seem like it would be AS(?) scary. Idk tho I remember feeling confident giving my 6 month old peanut butter and strawberries.

I would be scared to do that. My hub's family has a ton of food allergies. Just his sister alone is allergic to milk, eggs, soy, and nuts.
My understanding is that if you introduce allergens at a young age, a reaction to that first exposure isn't likely to be severe. With most cases I know of personally (which is not many) a child was diagnosed because the parents noticed a rash or upset stomach after exposure in a young child. So I was not scared to introduce peanut butter early. I believe that as the child gets older, and with repeated exposure, the reaction becomes more severe and can become life threatening.
@satsumasandlemons My son is allergic to eggs, soy, dairy, and some weird intolerance to sesame. He is expected to grow out of these by age 2. Nut allergies are a different beast - they tend to be the lifelong kind. Since he was an exclusive nurser and not interested in food, it took a long time to get him to eat much of anything anyway. At 13 months he was still primarily nursing which is when we started occupational therapy for feeding. That means our timeline is a quite a bit delayed compared to say a baby that was interested in solids at 6 months.
So I started by eating a couple almonds, nursing and watching for a reaction, then a couple pecans etc. and slowly progressed to peanuts. At 17 months, I gave him a smear of peanut butter, watched, waited a couple days and so on. He loves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. To be fair he also likes almond butter. Since he had so many food allergies I did not introduce peanut butter early per our allergist' recommendations - just slowly worked our way up. To be honest, I was really scared doing even the secondary introduction (through breast milk since I had gone nut free for almost a year).
I just said to my husband, "I really want pizza!" and he just offered to drive 20 minutes to go get the only pizza in this area I can eat (vegan). He rules, and I'm so excited to be getting pizza. That is all.

@caribbeanmama how did you find out he had all those allergies? Did you have to do like a blood test or...? I've only had a like air allergies prick test on my back so I'm curious how they test for food? Did you have to stop eating these things or do you not eat them? Thank goodness you had success breastfeeding or that sounds like it would have been awful.
@morgarita they do the skin prick test (IgE) for infants. So we have an Epi-pen for him based on that test. Once he is a year old, they are eligible for a blood test and then the in-hospital challenge. We knew he was intolerant from the skin rashes and vomiting after I nursed him. They went away once I stopped eating all the food (I also converted from vegetarian to omnivore because i mean nothing was left to eat).
The skin prick test is not definitive as there are false positives. We have not taken him in for the blood test as yet - too many other doctors appointments. I'm secretly hoping he grows out of it - so I feel like if I wait long enough then maybe just maybe when we do the test it will just come back negative. Totally irrational I know!
Seriously random, but I'm off work today, baby is napping, and I'm watching Impractical Jokers. Does anyone watch it?
These four guys prank/challenge each other and whoever loses the most challenges gets punished. The guy who got punished today had to teach Lamaze to pregnant woman! It was so funny.
They simulated labor contractions on him with a machine and he can't handle it, he's cussing and punching stuff and screams "get this demon baby out of me!" It's a funny show for those of who you need something new to watch!!
@mrscate88 I always need something new to watch. I binge shows way too hard. I'm going to try this out.
