@shaylalr I don't do baby signs yet but I take her with me to my sign class, I sign around her, and we sit in the Deaf ministry section at church so she's around it a lot. She's amazingly receptive and pays attention really well! Once she's sitting independently I'll probably start baby signs for her to do back to me some day.
I signed with DD1 and I think she was closer to a year old when she started signing back. I was going to start signing with DD2 around 9 months but after reading this, maybe I'll start sooner!
I'm attempting to find the delicate balance between eating enough to keep my supply up but also not so much that I don't lose weight. Much harder than I thought so I started using Myfitnesspal again in hopes that I get to my goal while still breastfeeding. Do any of you use a heart rate monitor or fitbit to help you keep in check? Preferences?
We've started signing with Nat too. We started at 5.5 months. She gets excited and kicks her legs and smiles when I sign "more" to her while feeding purees.
@arhodes6 and others who asked about books.. I am a HUGE reader, it's my favorite relaxing thing to do. If you're looking for a hilarious parenting book, check out The Mommy Shorts Guide to Remarkably Average Parenting. Super funny, although it's written from the perspective of a mom who had two vaginal births and works, so she doesn't really go into SAHM or c-sections. I loved it.
Fiction, I love anything written by Sophie Kinsella-quick reads, usually really cute. I Shall Be Near to You by Erin Lindsay was amazing, Mary Kubica is good for mystery-type books.. I could really go on and on Goodreads is AMAZING if you're looking for suggestions though! I'm about as addicted to that site as Pinterest.
@DachshundMomma I hear ya! Doing the same. I use a Fitbit to track. I like it cause it does water too which is important for your supply. Would love to drop a total of 30lbs, but starting with the 10 I'm up from my prebaby weight.
@babycakesday I can't remember the authors name, but "Making the Moose out of Life" and "Big Bear Hug". The whole series is great with books about friendship, teamwork, being responsible...
also loving "Where ever you go, my love will find you" and "I'd know you anywhere". These are from the same author as "on the night you were born"
Talking about book, what do y'all read to the littles? I need new books because I have most of her memorized now.
M's favorite is Brown Bear Brown Bear. We have the big board version, and the illustrations are bright and beautiful! We just make a library run every week or 2 and I kind of just grab any and all board books to read to her. She likes to help turn the pages and they're quick reads. If we stay on any 1 page too long, she seems to get antsy.
Wondering if maybe a thread for books should be started? Thoughts? Especially since there seems to be quite a few of us out there who like reading (to themselves or Littles). If there's interest I'll be happy to start one.
In terms of books that I have enjoyed for myself... The Girl on the Train by Julia Hawkins (so much better than the movie) Before I go to Sleep by S. J. Watson A Discovery of Witches (the whole series) by Deborah Harkness My First Five Husbands by Rue McClanahan (I'm a huge Golden Girls fan and her autobiography is a riot) On the Island by Tracy Garvis Graves (cheesy romance book but a super quick read) A Dog's Purpose by Bruce Cameron (break out the tissues)
For the kiddos: Chicka chicka boom boom Little blue truck Where the Wild Things Are Of you give a mouse a cookie
I'm a children's book freak, even wrote one! Lol. A couple current favorites for LO lately are C.R. Mudgeon by someone, I need to go look, anything by Mo Willems because he's hilarious (we read Amanda and her Alligator last night, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs is my personal fave). Classic Winnie the Pooh books I adore, Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, the Babar Elephant Books were my fave as a kid, gosh there are just so many good ones. I'd be up for a separate thread!

I also like the idea of a boom thread for both children and adult books. Thanks for the suggestions! I have a library card, but the childrens section at my closest lpcation is pretty sad, but I can request books to be transferred over to mine. So that's why I wanted ideas for titles to request. I presonally like anything by Sandra Boyton. Theyre catchy and the illustrations are nice.
We read a lot to E! A.A. Milne, Goodnight Moon, Harold and the Purple Crayon to name a few. We plan to do Harry Potter and Hobbit/LOTR when she's a little older. Would love a book thread!
Agreed on the book thread. B loves Brown Bear and R loves Goodnight, Moon. I have them both memorized and would love some new ones to add to their repertoire.
Okay so last night LO woke up screaming at midnight or so (I think she had a tummy ache...) and our neighbors above us pounded on the floor every time she would start up as if to tell us to shut her up. Really?!? What do you want me to do? I'm trying my best here! And it was 10 min max and she calmed down. This is a rare occasion and hardly happens so they shouldn't complain at all. Ugh I'm still so bugged and needed to vent to people I know understand.
@tennisbabymama I'm revengeful. I'd record DS screaming and then leave it playing when I left the house to run errands or play at the park. I had an awful downstairs neighbor once and it was sorts of terrible. I hope your LO is feeling okay now though.
Thanks ladies! You all made me feel better by validating my feelings and giving me a good laugh! @Heathereaddy I've had to put the broom to the ceiling before when they started vacuuming at 3 am with seriously the loudest vacuum I've ever head...and it woke LO one up....twice. The mama bear in me definitely came out. They then came down and pounded on our front door and yelled at DH me for pounding on their floor. They are seriously crazy. They scare me.
@FTM53 We LOVE On the Night You Were Born! Our (baby centered) hospital gives that book to newborns. They use the ink stamp (when they do prints) and do their foot prints on the page about feet/toes. I want to get him all of that collection of books.
@DachshundMomma Chicka chicka boom boom is a personal favorite here as well! My 5yo still adores it.
My favorite book forever was Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I've read it to my oldest since she was pretty tiny.
Also big fans of Guess how much I love you Good night moon Good night Max (A Max and Ruby book)
@tennisbabymama your neighbors are ridiculous jerks! I'm a vindictive childish jerkwad in cases like those, and love the recorded crying session. Kudos to you for not flipping your ish and/or going up there when they done it.
AshGee18 - prunes, pears, kale/spinach. We had to call the on call pedi one night when she was super consitpated and they said 1/2 oz apple juice w/ a 1/2 oz water and that got the gas moving almost instantly. ALso- what type of cereal are you using? Rice cereal has constipated almost every baby I know (including mine). Oatmeal has been great for us- also heard barley is good/better in terms of preventing constipation
I know there was a thread on this way back when, but are any of you ladies on Instagram? I found the old post but didn't want to sort through the pages and pages of people who are not active on the board anymore. Would anyone be interested in a new thread for social media i.e. Instagram/Snapchat/etc?
I'm happy to share my IG name and anyone that's wants to follow me on snapchat, I'm totally happy sharing that in a message. Because anyone can just add you on snap right? There's no approval process like my private IG?
I'd share my IG handle on here, but I think I'd prefer to keep my snapchat handle off TB as it's my full name. If anyone wants to follow me there, PM me!
Is it sad that I have to have my husband help.me add people on snapchat? I just don't full understand it still lol. But I'd be happy to share my instagram. Just be warned it's all baby and cat pictures....
Haha! Yeah I'm sure my RL friends are tired of seeing my baby every week. That's all my Instagram has become. I love sharing and seeing all the bump babies throughout the week. Glad to add more to my feed!
@ftm53- i'm with you! I just kind of sort of figured out snapchat but I really only use it when people send stuff to me. I downloaded ig (just learned of that abbreviation today...) and decided within 5 minutes I didn't need something else to figure out and post the same pics I do on fb, lol. I'm definitely feeling old when I have to google the new slang terms, haha.
Well my instagram handle is damedechatday. If anyone wants my snapchat, thatll have to wait u til tonight so my husband can tell me what it is. Lol. But I'd be happy to message that one. I could use more mom friends and more babies to see!
Does anyone have any tried and true remedies for congestion? I usually take a decongestant but unfortunately that's out since I'm still nursing. I tried boiling apple cider vinegar last night and inhaling the steam, but that only worked for maybe 5 minutes. I also have a humidifier running at night.
