Hey do you guys think we should get a Labor Thread and Birth Announcement thread going and pinned? I noticed January got theirs started the first week of October, and some of the earliest due members on the board are about 29/30 weeks along now.
I think we decided we would wait until the first birth to make one

SITB
Part of me is afraid that if we post it, we'll need it, but I'm weird like that.
Ditto it's like inviting the Evil eye in, but I'm superstitious.
I figured y'all would appreciate this, or at least get a laugh. Using Walmart self check out today. Went to put something in the bag and the machine says twice to please enter the code of the item or look it up. Couldn't figure it out at first till I realized every time I leaned to put my scanned item in the bag my bump was leaning on the scan part so it was weighing it like produce when I realized what was going on in pretty sure my face turned bright red.

I think 2 months prior is usually the norm (or used to be).Personally, I'm in no rush to get one started. It seems really odd to me to start a birth announcement thread 3 months prior unless there is a birth which I'm hoping we don't get for a while.

Everyone just keep calm and cross your legs...but also elevate them, and maybe just keep them pressed close together and not crossed because blood flow sucks right now and we don't need cramps or varicose veins.

Can anyone talk to me about FMLA paperwork? I got a copy of mine today, and I noticed that the doctor wrote that I'd be out for 6 weeks following delivery. My school automatically has planned for 12 weeks, and I don't want them to only plan for a long-term sub for 6 of those weeks! I don't know why my doctor would have put 6 weeks if I'm entitled to 12. Does anyone know more about the FMLA process? I've put in a call to my doc, but would love to be able to get out in front of this since my school will start planning for a long-term sub right away.
@NiceyMeany do you have a special FMLA form? I have a "leave request" that I'll put the 10w (or whatever - haven't decided!) on and a "certification of physician" that will just say the medically necessary 6w part...
ETA: that is to say that your doctor only signs off on the medical part - 6 weeks for vaginal delivery. Anything additional is childcare leave, not medical. Protected under FMLA, but doesn't concern your doctor. So in my district, I have separate forms and no official FMLA form - just general leave request.
@MommaBean yeah I know that the doctor can only give me 6 weeks for what's medically necessary, but what she wrote was "patient will be out for 6 weeks following birth of infant." We don't have a separate leave request form, so the district doesn't want to accept my 12 weeks because the paperwork so decisively says 6 weeks only. So now I don't know how to get them to bridge the gap.
I am really confused about the lack of separate leave request, @NiceyMeany. My doctor did the same thing (she wrote the actual date range for 6 weeks), but I was able to request the full amount of leave with our leave request form, which is the way our HR department complies with FMLA policy. I don't understand how your district could be complying with FMLA without accompanying policy documents beyond just the healthcare certification paperwork. I'm sorry I don't have any better advice! Hoping someone else can help.

@PerraSucia My state doesn't require STD, so I go straight to FMLA. And @MoonOverGoldsboro I have no idea how they can comply without separate paperwork. All I know is that the statement my doctor wrote puts them in a "hands tied" situation for whatever reason, so I guess I have to ask my doctor to rewrite the statement to say something like "6 weeks medically necessary and requesting 12 weeks total." I work for a massive school district, so you'd think they'd have this stuff figured out by now...
@NiceyMeany I was thinking the same thing - you can't possibly be the first woman to take more than 6 weeks. HR can't answer this for you?! Wth.
Yeah, this all just sounds like garbage to me. I mean, under FMLA, you get 12 weeks for the birth/care of a child--the end, that's it, you don't have to "prove" you need 12 weeks. Frankly, I was under the impression that for mat leave, the health certification form was basically just to certify that you were indeed pregnant--otherwise, I swear my HR rep didn't even look at the rest. Other health conditions would certainly require more specific details and more specific guidelines on ability to work...but that's just not the case for mat leave. How frustrating!

I went to the chiro for the first time today. All went well until the neck adjustment. Now I'm sore with a nasty headache. And then I relied on trusty Dr. Google to tell me that I'll probably have a stroke and die because chiropractors are evil.

This times one million. I think it's just the wording my doctor used. They didn't like "patient will be out for 6 weeks" because it was a definitive time limit. Or something. I asked the doctor to rewrite "6 weeks medically necessary; 12 weeks requested." Hopefully that'll calm their tits a little.
I just got to my hotel after spending the entire day auditing some of our stores prior to Black Friday next week. I have another full day tomorrow before heading back home. This is exhausting! I don't know how some of you are still traveling on a regular basis!
As I was relaxing before bed last night, baby was kicking like crazy. I decided to pull up my shirt and watch my stomach to see if I could see any kicks. I could definitely see them, and I can't tell if I'm in love or a little creeped out! Either way, it was fairly exciting to see...got a good 45 minutes of watching in
@Patience7150 It's so cool and so weird at the same time!!
So I've worked at my current job for over a year and a half now. In that time we've had 2 clients closely associated with very bad crimes. Now today, one of our older clients called saying she's meeting these people that are going to give her a bunch of money and a car and she wants my boss to go with her. I know it's a scam and told my boss to call the police to be there to catch these people. He was like well it's daytime in a public place with cameras. I DON'T CARE!! My H is a police officer and they would much rather be there to help then have to respond to a robbery or worse!
Health Insurance is my current conundrum- I can finally drop my own and be just on my husbands (stupid cost rule they had on his policy since I work).
But now his insurance (New to us this year) is switching to another company (which is actually a more open policy...) but I literally just switched the kid to a different pediatric practice because we were out of network (still keeping the switch its closer to our house but it was a PIA) and now I have no idea what breast pumps I'll be eligible for. I'm a planner... and not being able to plan until January stresses me out lol!!
Oh man I haven't had to deal with that one, but I did get the TDAP a couple days ago and my muscle still hurts. Are you waiting on the 1 hour or 3 hour GD test @FishyMom?

I have my work laptop which is like the opposite of fun. But i just had a random 28 week appt in the middle of waiting and they said there was barely any sugar in my pee at all after chugging the drink so they aren't worried I'll pass.
@NiceyMeany will your doctor edit your paperwork to say 12 weeks? The other option is to speak with your pediatrician when the baby is born and see if they would be willing to fill out paperwork for an additional 6 weeks of care for the baby. Your work sucks but they only have to go off what the paperwork says. It's odd to me they don't have a separate form for leave, especially if you are entitled to any kind of leave per your employee handbook. My mom had to file FMLA for my pregnancy and her work didn't even give her that much hassle and she's not even the one having the baby.
