We told our families immediately and my coworkers figured it out at my 5th week when I fainted in the hallway at work. Now we are discussing when to post on Facebook. I'd like to post on Dec 23rd (I will be 12 weeks) however my husband is worried since we won't have our 2nd blood test back for chromosomal diseases until the 15th week. We did not do the NIPT. I feel disappointed because I've been searching for months how we will post a cute Christmas announcement but I want to respect his decision too. This is our first pregnancy and we have no family history of diseases and I'm 30 years old. Advice!?

TBH everyone and their mother announces on big holidays!
    Maybe a New Years compromise?
Agree. Tons of engagements and baby news on big holidays. We are telling family on Christmas but it will be well into next year before we post a word on my DH Facebook. It's just not my thing. If we post at all.

  • We always do one big Thanksgiving with both of our families, and my brother was leaving for two years a few days later, so we told our families on Thanksgiving. Every year we all say what we're thankful for, and this year I said I was thankful to have such a loving and supporive family for when the baby gets here in July. There was a stunned silence, and then earsplitting excited shrieking from my mother and MIL. It was great. :

My first ultrasound is finally Wednesday! Woohoo! As long as everything looks good, we were going to announce to our aunts, uncles, and cousins at our Christmas celebration on Friday. However, I don't want to upset my cousins who have been trying for 13 years to get pregnant. We are super close and they love my DD. While I know they'll be happy for us, I'm sure their initial reaction will also involve sadness for themselves. I hate to ruin their Christmas, so thought about just keeping it to ourselves and texting them the news after the holidays. The problem with that is I'm not sure I can hide my nausea from them during our meal on Friday! Am I overthinking this? What should I do!

ETA: With DD I sent them a text announcing I was pregnant. I wanted them to be able to express their emotions privately instead of in front of a bunch of family members. I think even if we do announce to family on Friday, I would text them beforehand again so they have time to recover if they are upset.

You should let her know beforehand that this announcement is coming.

  • @Hdhtk4 I agree with @GlitterFish
I would let her know beforehand so she has time to process and deal with the news however she needs to before it is sprung on her in a group setting.
  • I had planned to wait until Christmas, but I'm doing it wednesday after my US.
  • @BabyBuckWay your pup is so cute! Love the announcement.
  • Haven't announced it to parents yet. We wanted to wait until we had an ultrasound and heard a hb, which we did! Husband and I are planning to announce to both sets of parents on Wednesday. We were going to wait until Christmas, but my father works both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so we moved it up.

No announcement to anyone else until after we pass 12 weeks. We want to make sure everything progresses smoothly.

My Master Teacher figured out I was pregnant at 5 weeks when I was nauseous all week and had to skip a day because I thought I was going to pass out.
  • Love this @leilac ! We're thinking of doing a collage of photos one of which is our 2 dogs with one in a t-shirt that says "I'm going to be a big sister"and the other in a t-shirt that says "my parents are getting me a human" lol congrats!

  • We are announcing at Christmas to both parents as I'll be 12 weeks exactly then. We bought lil gift boxes stuffed em with tissue paper and have placed a pair of handknitted woollen booties in each box with sonogram in roof of box with "Coming July 2017". I think my parents will bawl their eyes out.
  • I found a cute card template online and added some custom pictures of us on the front (it says more happy, more laughter, more cheer) and on the inside U/S pics and it says "And more family! Your Christmas present is on backorder. Estimated arrival 7/1/17. I'm super excited to give them out on Saturday to the family (I'll be 13 weeks!)

My mom just told me that I have until New Years to put it on Facebook, otherwise she is going to!

I don't even know why I'm so against putting it on there in the first place. One, I feel like it has to be special or something since it always seems to be arranged photo shoots and crap lately. Two, it's really so many strangers!! I mean it's not like I speak to these people regularly, so I feel like they will be more interested in my life or something which is weird to me... like all of a sudden I'm on display.

It's not that I never post anything - far from it! This is just... so much more personal.

I said I would after 12 weeks, probably, but now we are here and I'm still not sure!!

Eta: I'm sure feeling "not as excited as I should be" is also playing into this.

You can always restrict who can actually see it on your facebook, so make it available to family/close friends for now and then the "strangers" can figure it out on their own if ever :D lol

  • I just saw my first christmas fb announcement... Giant eyeroll.
I wonder how many before the weekend is over??

Maybe I'll just put DH in charge of it... He would probably forget to tag me! Lmao

  • This is my first time 'replying', I hope it works!

Once a year I cull my facebook friends list and remove people I haven't spoken to in long time. I find it helps me feel a little more secure about posting stuff, as I am fully aware of who can see my page. I will be doing a cull before I make my announcement on NYE. I'm always surprised to see people at the bottom of my list that I should have gotten rid of ages ago. Maybe that will make you feel a bit better about the announcement?

Dammit the reply didn't work. I suspect it has to do with being on the mobile site. Oh well.
    Edit: a word
  • Being an AW real quick--Just put this up today...she was less than cooperative for her baby model big sister shoot.

Oh my goodness her cheeks are the best!

  • Hi guys I'm thinking we're going to wait to announce on Facebook in January once the NIPT panorama test results come back; but we are very excited about finally telling our parents Tuesday night after our 12w US; we choose not to tell them sooner because they would have just increased our anxieties= not good for baby; they're going to freak out! We're thinking of doing a group Skype since they're out of town, so excited! I hope my mom doesn't get mad I didn't tell her sooner, my sister and my DH's brother already know. For the big FB reveal in January I think we're going to go with a slideshow of pics and mini video clips, love that new feature! My SIL will be up for new year's and she takes great photos. So far, 1 photo will likely be a wine sippy cup filled with wine looking liquid, a beer sippy cup, 2 dog travels water bowls and 1 baby sippy cup filled with milk. Another one is going to be our older dog with a t-shirt from cafe press (hopefully it arrives on time!) That says "my parents are getting me a human"and for our younger dog a shirt that says "I'm going to be a big sister!" Also a photo of an ornament a friend got is off 2 penguins (1 of which is pregnant) and has "we're expecting" on it. I love corny, HB not so much but he's on board with it. :) What do you guys think? Still nervous about the 12 W US haven't seen little baby since 9wUS! I hope all is well. Happy holidays everyone!
  • We told my family today. I wrapped a t-shirt for my sister that said "Aunt Squad" - she's my only sibling and this is the first grand/great-grand-baby for my family, so it's pretty exciting for all on my side. I also framed some copies of our recent US for my parents and grandma.

DH's family lives on the other side of the country, so we are still pinpointing a way to tell them. He has 4 siblings, and this is grandbaby #5/great-grand-baby #7, so a little less momentous for them (not that they won't be excited too).
  • @dancegurl1118, your announcement is perfection.

  • I've actually had a lot of fun with announcing. I've basically told everyone now, but he rundown is:

Soon after BFP, we told my parents and MIL by hanging a tag on the cat saying "I'm the big sister"
I gave photo frames to both great grandmas saying, Baby blnk, coming to a living room near you, July 2017
We just told FIL and StepMIL, mostly because we just don't have as good of a relationship with them, and we were afraid of a bad reaction
Most other close family got told in person, just regularly told
And then I posted on facebook just the other day, with two photos of DH and I, and the ultrasound photo. They were in a row. The first one was when we started dating and said "boyfriend and girlfriend, July 2013". The second one was our wedding photo saying "husband and wife, July 2016". The last one was the ultrasound and said, "daddy and mama, July 2017". I also posted a status that said, "first he gave me butterflies, then they turned into little feet. Baby blnk, expected arrival July 12, 2017".
Lastly, I'm sending out a little "yearly review" letter to the rest of our family, just kind of over-viewing everything we did this year, and ending with the announcement of our expected LO. That should do it. Anyone else who doesn't know, probably won't lol.

  • I was thinking of doing this. But might wait until after my appointment on Wednesday
  • @GlitterFish Wow that's great! The ornament was a gift from a family member who already knew, so I posted it to IG and FB today. It was well received, and everyone is super excited!
  • I love reading all these reveal stories and seeing your photos! There are so many cute ideas.

Thanks to MS I told lots of people at work before I told anyone else. But lately the reveals have begun to get fun!

I told my parents we were expecting at about 6 weeks, but on Christmas (12 weeks), I gave them a Christmas card that I decorated with a pink bow inside and said "Another reason to be jolly: IT'S A GIRL!!! (Well, 99% chance...)."

Right after that, I posted on Path (most of my family uses it) a picture of H and me wearing graduation caps and holding a miniature one, saying "Graduating to parenthood in the summer of 2017!" and telling people it's a girl. We're also both academics so the hats make more sense.

I will say one downside of sharing on Christmas (or any holiday) is that people aren't as likely to see things quickly. It was an hour before the texts from my SIL came in!

I'll post the same photo on FB after the structural scan on Thursday. So excited and hoping I didn't jinx anything by sharing the news!! (Oh, superstition, how I hate you...)
    ~DD arrived July 4, 2017~
  • We send a (kind of) daily email to our parents with a picture and a little anecdote about our son - a tradition since he was born, since we live in another continent. We made a sign that said, "I'm going to be a big brother ~July 2nd!" and sent it in the daily email.

We probably won't do a FB announcement (didn't last time - my 8 month pregnant belly just happened to be in a photo one day). We tell real friends by email and whatnot, and that's enough for us.

Love these thoughtful announcements that you all are doing! It's fun to see everyone's different personalities shine.

We announced to our families over Christmas. My FIL led the prayer before Christmas Eve dinner while holding our son. And then he said, "(son's name), do you have anything to add?" And my husband chimed in "he does actually have something to add. He's going to be a big brother!" It was cute and everyone went crazy. My son looked super stunned (he's 19 months so wasn't sure exactly what was going on). Lol. Of course  my MIL said "I thought you looked pregnant!" And "it better be a girl!" Eye roll.

    Eta: word.

So, for those who were asking, I'm going to do my best to keep the twins factor a secret from my husband until Christmas Day. We're announcing to my parents and siblings on Christmas Eve. We're hosting at our house, and we have our stocking hung up on the fireplace. We are hanging up a fourth one with "July '17" on it and waiting to see how long it takes them to notice (should be pretty quickly - we're expecting our household goods soon, so they'll want to take a look at everything when they get here).

With that backstory in mind, I've wrapped a second stocking that matches the one on the fireplace in a box with one of those metal gift card holder boxes. I put our ultrasound that shows the twins and that the ultrasound tech wrote "Merry Christmas.....TWINS!!" on in the gift card holder and put that I'm the box with the stocking. If my husband doesn't get the stocking hint quickly, or asks what it's for, I'll just tell him I thought he might like to complete the set.
How did your husband react to the news of TWINS!?!?!
  • Seeing that on Christmas Eve I was 12 weeks, we went "live" on Facebook. :) When I can figure out how to blur something in a picture, I'll post it. :)

  • We told our families with future big sis wearing a t shirt. They were excited. I didn't do a social media announcement with dd and I probably won't with this one either. The people I really want to know already know. I don't keep it from social media I just don't do anything special. If we find out the gender this time maybe I'll do something.
