  • So I guess I really DO belong here lol. My IUI is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, 11/1. My scan this morning showed three follicles, down from the original six. Whomp. One at 16mm and two at 12mm. Very depressing. I go back Monday to make sure they've matured, or at least one has, and then IUI on Tuesday. There is a slim possibility I could ovulate on my own this weekend, even though I'm taking the Cetrotide to discourage that. So we HIO today and tomorrow just to be safe. Really hoping that doesn't happen. But it's the one of first times I've ever had EWCM so I'm a bit worried. The nurse also told me today that if this cycle doesn't work out we might want to consider doing a third injectable cycle, but at the highest dose. This way we can see how I respond, and if I over respond then we would convert the IUI to IVF. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt like she was basically telling me we just need to move on to IVF. As insurance doesn't cover it, that's a massive decision. So needless to say today I've been feeling quite down.
  • @mrsdaddario  I'm sorry, that is a hard comment to receive.  I realize your nurse sees patients doing IVF day in and day out so it's no big deal to her, but in reality it IS a really big decision!  Thinking follicle-growing-thoughts for you this weekend :)

    @madasm0530  I have done acupuncture and the place I go actually shares space with my RE.  They are doing a mini session with me right before my IUI and then again right after.  I find my sessions a little odd but its one more thing that might tip the scales in our favor.

    Hi.  I hope its okay if I post here today even though my IUI is today (10/31).  All of the testing and stuff will be in Nov so I thought that would make more sense.  I'll move to Oct if that is more appropriate.  This is my first IUI.

  • Excited to see all the new faces and to get November officially started tomorrow.  Hoping for lots of positives this month!

    I already posted this on the October IUI board but thought I'd put my questions here too in case someone isn't on that one...I'm hopefully doing my 3rd IUI cycle in November, and I messaged my doctor to ask what he would recommend if that cycle didn't work.  He said that usually he would recommend IVF because if IUI is going to work that it will work in the first three cycles.  DH and I are really unsure if we would go the IVF route so I was really heartbroken to hear this.  I'd like to push to try a few more IUI cycles before thinking about IVF especially since we've only done letrozole and haven't tried injectables.  Have any of your doctors also said three IUI is all they would recommend?  Did any of your doctors recommend injectables even if you responded well to oral meds?  Thanks for your help!

  • @mrsdaddario  I'm so sorry they kind of gave you that news without any warning.  My DH and I are not sure that we would IVF either so I totally get it.  It's a huge decision for many reasons.  Remember that it's your decision so you can push to try more before IVF.  How did your appointment go this morning?

  • @laurad75 How did your IUI go today?

    @Katkirch I hope this month is your month! My doctor said they typically do 3 rounds of IUI before moving on to IVF, but like you suggested to mrsdaddario, if you want to try another round of IUI I think you should tell your doctor that's what you want.

    I have my first IUI tomorrow and am about to give myself the trigger shot, feeling nervous about it!

  • @Katkirch my RE said that typically it's 3-4 cycles then they would start suggesting IVF. But she said "the cap" would be 6.

    When we had our planning meeting with her she gave us a choice of Femara at a 10% a month odds or FSH Injectables, a better chance with odds of success at 16-18% (much more expensive but Higher odds each month).

    We went with the Injectables - higher risk of cyst and potentially worsening my Endo pain but worth it to me to avoid IVF if we can.

  • @Katkirch My RE said the same as @JWatt5. We're unexplained infertility as a diagnosis, so we went with injectables.
  • @Katkirch - I plan to ask for the full 6 cycles if it feels right and they can't give me a good reason not to. If you think you want to try again, doesn't hurt to voice that opinion.

    @kaseycoco - good luck!

  • Thanks @kaseycoco.  The IUI went just fine.  I was a little crampy afterwards but I think that's normal.  Beta is on 11/14 so @mrsdaddario and I have a long couple of weeks ahead.

  • @persnickity - how have you felt being on the injectables? I noticed on the October IUI page that you are taking the same as me (just a different name). While I was taking them I felt great - energy wise - which felt weird because if you asked me my brain kept saying the needles and appointments are were getting to me. I was dealing with my stress way better than usual!

  • @JWatt5 I didn't have any side effects that I could trace back to the follistim. I was emotional and weepy, but I've been dealing with a lot of non-ttc stress (just lost a pet and work stuff). That was a big relief, I was worried I might have more side effects. Makes it a lot easier to go through everything when I still feel like me.  :)
