I remember my first pregnancy hitting 4 weeks to go and thinking omg yay she can come at any time!!!!! And I was so worried about my shower. Then she came super late so this time I'm just mentally in it for the long haul. Hopefully all your babies stay cooking so you can enjoy your showers! For my cousin, hers was 3 weeks early and her water broke when she was home unloading her shower gifts so it was good timing, lol.
So, H''s friends want to throw us a " Diapers and beer" party 4 wks before I'm due. 2 hours away. We're doing cloth and I can't drink . I told H it depended on what my midwife said but I'm eally thinking " Nah." Does that make me the biggest bish ever?
@Gretchypoo I wouldn't go. If it's H's friends tell them to throw him a "Dadchelor" party instead. Then you don't have to go and your hubby can go drink with his buddies which is clearly the point of all this anyway.
My shower is a surprise so I have no clue when it will be.....but I am getting anxious! I know my Mom is planning it as we speak....but I also know invites haven't gone out yet so I am assuming it will be sometime next month...I am just paranoid it will be last minute and baby girl will come before it happens lol. Or that I will be too big and uncomfortable to enjoy it. I know MIL is helping her and she is getting antsy too b/c she is so excited but also b/c she knows Feb is only 3 months away and I want to make sure we have time to buy anything we might need after the shower. The nester/planner/to do list woman in me is all over the place. I am a weird person that needs to try and have all my ducks in a row VS winging stuff for the most part, and I am also an anxious excited FTM. Don't get me wrong, I am SO grateful that family is doing this for me and I feel all the love and support around my little family. I'm just ready to rock and roll lol and even though it is a surprise for me, people keep asking when they should expect their invites...IDK PEEPS!!! I'm also slightly anxious b/c we are keeping it with close family/friends, and not inviting DH and my 6,000 cousins or extended family that we barely speak to and I know some will get their panties wadded over "being excluded" even though we literally only see these people MAYBE once a year...and some of DH's cousins are assholes anyway. So TOO BAD! We only wanted to include people we are close with in this celebration, not everyone and anyone just to get more gifts.
My shower is on Sunday!! Someone gave DH a gift card yesterday for us to go out to lunch after church so we aren't there or trying to help while it gets set up. I'm excited!
I'm glad this thread filled up with Jan showers instead of everyone already having theirs! When it started, I was like "I haven't heard anything about a shower yet! Have all my friends and family forgotten me?! " Then I realized I was being a bit irrational and emotional and my bestie has already talked to my mom, etc. I'll be in the early Jan. crew, too
@MommaBean - I think me too....or mid-late December. I overheard Dh talking to our Moms and they are getting the plans in order...but that is all I know
@MommaBean I have had people ask me about a shower so I gave a list of those people to my mom and told her not to do anything until January. This is #3 for me and #2 for MH so I'm only inviting people who have specifically mentioned it/super close friends and family who I know would want to go and then the people who you're obligated to invite if you've invited certain other people lol.
When was your shower? This past Saturday, November 5th How many people attended? About 30-35 ladies What did you wear? Red Seraphine dress from Destination Maternity Was there a theme? I guess just Baby Girl theme? There was a lot of pink Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. I loved it! It was hosted by 6 of MILs friends and one of my SILs. They seriously did an amazing job. We kept it to about two hours - about 30 minutes of socializing, then eating, then presents. Then the ladies all cleaned up my SILs house within 20 minutes. H stayed for the shower, which I actually wanted him to do. He grew up with MIL and his 3 sisters, so I know he actually enjoys being around/socializing with all the women. And I enjoyed not having all the attention on me, because that stresses me out. What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. My grandma surprised me by coming to the shower. She lives 8 hours away and I was not expecting her and my grandpa to make the drive. But it was so nice to see her. Other favorite part is that not one single person touched my belly. WIN. Any pictures you want to share? I will upload some tonight after my SIL sends them to me. I kept my phone in my purse and didn't take any pictures of my own. Favorite/interesting gifts? H's grandma bought our infant carseat, MIL bought our stroller, and my grandma got us our crib and mattress. I was definitely not expecting any big items, but it was SO generous of all of them.
What did you wear? Grey maxi skirt, black shirt, and denim jacket
Was there a theme? Just girly. Coral, grey, flowers, baby
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. It was awesome! This is my 3rd baby, so I didn't even ever expect a baby shower, but my friends went all out and it was so cute! I wore make up for the first time in 2 weeks, and I almost cried it all off!
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. Everyone decorated diapers with Sharpies to make diaper changing more entertaining. They were hilarious! There wasn't anything I didn't like. It was an awesome day!
Any pictures you want to share? See below
Favorite/interesting gifts? My mom made a closet out of an entertainment center for all our baby clothes. It's so freakin' adorable! Someone also gifted me a 1 hour massage.
The heart thing was the guestbook! Everyone wrote a cute message on a heart, and they attached them to the board. Also, there was a chocolate fountain!
What did you wear? Little black dress with a white ribbon
Was there a theme? Cocktail party?
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. Yes, it was super fun!! There was a cash bar, so people could drink and get loose and a TON of sweets It was so great seeing all my friends/family.
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. Favorite part was getting to go around and mingle with everyone. It was co-ed so me and hubby were both there. It was super fun. Since there was alcohol it really helped everyone let loose! My boss also was there and he got suuuper drunk...so that was a fun time.
Any pictures you want to share? Coming soon.
Favorite/interesting gifts? My mom bought us the "Snugapuppy" swing we wanted and one of our friends got us the matching bouncer!! I'm so excited!!
I forgot to include my favorite piece of decor.... this awesome LOL sign seated next to the diaper cake I feel the need to post it near the door of my house!
How many people attended? About 10, my co-workers and some of our volunteers
What did you wear? jeans and a tee shirt
Was there a theme? Surprise!
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. It was a complete surprise! Honestly, they are lucky I wore real pants today. ;-)
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. My favorite part was that it was a huge surprise. They called me into a meeting and I complained about it-- now I feel like a brat! They were all so worried I had guessed, but I was completely shocked. Apparently they had a secret email code about "Captive Cervids" and that was the secret code for my shower- lol!
Also, I got to see my male co-workers (we only have 2 women in the office) be horrified when we told them about traditional baby shower games like melting candy in diapers and making people guess what it is.
Any pictures you want to share? No pictures, it was really casual-- just some friends, food and a few gifts. I was really touched that the volunteers I work with came in to celebrate with us.
Favorite/interesting gifts? Our team name is "The Missouri Crawdads" so they gave me a crawdad onsie and our leaders/ volunteers gave us some books, onsies a soft blanket and about $200 in giftcards.
Definitions for folks in non-fly-over states: Cervids are deer. Captive deer legislation has been a big controversy in our state due to deer AIDS-- this is my job. No joke. I get to lobby elected officials about deer AIDS.
Crawdads are like tiny lobsters that live in rivers. They are also known as Crayfish, Crawdaddies or Mudbugs. They are delicious and kids grow up learning to catch them without getting pinched.
How many people attended? Oh about 20-25 including a few kiddos
What did you wear? Black sweater dress, flannel scarf, boots.
Was there a theme? Rustic lumberjack, woods, bear/moose haha.
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. I honestly didn't know what to expect because I'm the first of my friends to have kids and the first "kid" in my family to, and my SILs had kids when I met them. But I think it went really well!
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. My favorite part was seeing all my friends from high school! My bestttttt friend from HS was there and helped me a lot and I haven't seen her in probably 2 years, it was great
Any pictures you want to share? I have to have a few sent to me since I was too busy to take any myself haha.
Favorite/interesting gifts? We got 95% of the big things that we needed and that was amazing and sooo generous, I was shocked! My grandmother, who is like the quilting/sewing/interior decorating queen made us a GORGEOUS quilt. I cant even describe it. I will post a picture once I pick it up from my mom's house but it is just awesome. It was also hilarious to see my friends get me things, especially those who don't have babies in their lives, I loved it!
So, I have a shower question... What are everyone's thoughts on DH coming to a non-co-ed shower?
I found out last night there are some attendees to my family shower that I was not asked/told about (I was pretty upset when I found out), and DH has offered to come to make things less awkward for me. I love that idea and that he's willing to do that for me; but he would be the only guy there, and I'm really not sure what the etiquette is for that?

Mine was at my house, so H was there but kinda hung back, if that makes sense.
@WinchesterGirl both my showers were not co-ed but dad was there and interacting with guests. My dad and brother also came to them and hung out with a couple other guy friends and they all hung out until it was time to open the presents. I think my ex and MH were more excited about opening gifts than I was and as ridiculous as it sounds opening all that crap is tiring so it was nice to have someone else with me.
@WinchesterGirl I think it is totally acceptable to have your DH attend in this case and I would just run it by the shower hosts to make sure they are comfortable with it. I think typically the partner usually comes to the shower near the end to make an appearance and say hi to everyone and help load up all the gifts. But I don't see any reason why he couldn't be there the whole time. My husband will probably attend my whole shower since the hosts invited him to attend, and he loves the restaurant where it will be held.
Thank you ladies! Since it doesn't seem too out of the norm, I think I will take him up on his offer to come. I will feel a lot more comfortable with him there, and I hate being the center of attention anyways (he is much better in groups than me!).
@WinchesterGirl I'm glad you will bring your H! I see no problem with it. I think my dad and H will be at my shower because it is out of town and we'll need drivers
@WinchesterGirl - for DD, my H came mid way through (kind of like that random tradition they do for bridal showers maybe?) and he helped open gifts and socialized with people - esp the ones invited from his side. It was nice to have him there, even just for the aspect of carrying out all the heavier gifts!
I'm soo happy with my last-minute hostess gifts for tomorrow. None of these crazy women like wine, but they get chocolate and a pun. What else could you want!?
Was there a theme? Travel. Dear lord was there a travel theme
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. Yeah! It was a big combined shower at his Grandmother's house; both sides of both families + friends, with 3 hosts; both moms & my best friend. (My nickname for my friend is 'Mom', btw. I was amused by my triple-mom-hostedness) I was worried they would step on each other's toes, but they did awesome.
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. Favorite part was the guest book; everyone signed the inside cover of Oh! the places you'll go. Lots of them wrote adorable messages to Michael
I was also happy that 'Mom' used several of the games that I used at her shower We played the Price is Right, Baby Bingo, and she made baby bottle trophies for game prizes. Terrible photo, but I love them!
Least favorite part is that I totally forgot to get any photos of anyone. I wish I had a photo with everyone there
Any (more) pictures you want to share? Cupcakes with a chocolate map of the world, by MIL. Favor table with little suitcases of Hershey's kisses & sugar scrub by my mom.
Favorite/interesting gifts? We got both the infant & convertible car seats, so that is awesome! I'm also overly attached to the two cloth diapers. We're up to 9 of our planned 20-24. Somehow we don't have a single AIO even though that's all I registered for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ eh, first world problems. 15% off on Amazon, here I come.

Favorite/interesting gifts? People were so generous! But they made H a "diaper changing tool belt" with newborn diapers, butt cream, baby powder, ear plugs, hand santizier, tongs, a face mask, goggles and wipes. (see pic below) They made him put it on and show it off!
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. Favorite part was seeing everyone that came, I hadn't seen some people in a few months
Any pictures you want to share? Sure! My two SILs did an awesome job!
Favorite/interesting gifts? My MIL made a cute baby quilt and my Mom got us a personalized little hat and outfit to bring her home in
No more showers yet? I love seeing these. Mine is coming up next weekend on 01/07, so I will be sure to share the details. It was supposed to be a surprise but my Mom's fiance had a slip of the tongue over Christmas Eve lol.
Mine isn't until 1/21 and now I am starting to worry I should have had it done sooner.... but with the holidays and my mom working every other weekend and other stuff going on it was tough finding a free Saturday! (although I am starting to get pretty anxious, so I am glad I have something awesome to look forward to )
Mine's on 1/14! I've been stalking the evite list to see who's coming - so far it's mostly family and neighbors, which I expected since most of our friends live too far away to easily attend. My MIL is going to be making a cake for it, which I am super excited about since she makes amazing cakes.
@CarsAndLove When are you due? You'll prob be fine but if I were you I'd have a plan to at least have a bassinet and car seat just in case!
But you're not the only one with a late shower. I have one on the 7th (34 wks) and one on the 21st (36 wks). the one on the 21st is 2 hrs away-- I may just send h on his own if I'm feeling super KU.
