GTKY--Old school, M.A.S.H. style

Hi! I thought this would be a fun little poll...a spin on M.A.S.H., which we likely all played as a child:

1. M.A.S.H.: Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House--where are you living now? Do you love it? Hate it? In your "forever house" or something in between?
2. Partner: Are you married? Engaged? Dating? Is your partner the type of person you expected to be starting a family with?
3. How many kids do you want?
4. What type of car do you drive?

Re: GTKY--Old school, M.A.S.H. style

  • For me:
    1. I live in a house that we bought last year. We spent the first 9 years of our marriage living in tiny apartments in the city, so we are living the "suburban dream" and loving the newly found space. I don't think this is our "forever house" or even forever city/state, but it's good for the next 5 years or so.

    2. Married. He's exactly the type of person I thought I'd start a family with--mostly because we've been together since Sophomore year of high school, but also because he has many of the qualities I wanted in a father for my kiddos.

    3. Just two kids for us--this baby (barring a miscarriage) will be the end of the line for us.

    4. We (as a family) drive a Subaru Forester. We also have a Mini Cooper that is still hanging on from our childless, city days. I can't let it go and it's nice to have an extra car around.

  • 1. House, probably my forever house. Love my neighborhood and yard but there is so much left to do in terms of making it nice inside. We bought the fixer upper in a really nice area but I'm kind of tired of waiting for it to come together. Ex. I have had bare plaster living room walls for a year now.

    2. Married, and yes, he's pretty much the type of person I expected to be with.

    3. Would love 4 but it looks like 2 will be our max since I'm already 38.

    4. Nissan Murano.

  • 1. Apartment! We live in military housing. It will be a long time before we are in a "forever home."

    2. Married for almost 5 years. He definitely wasn't my normal "type." He is a great dad.

    3. This will be 2 for us and DH is getting snipped. I'm done.

    4. MINIVAN! Don't hate! We have so much room. We have two 100lb dogs, so it's nice for road trips. Stow n go seats are the BOMB.

  • 1. M.A.S.H.: Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House--where are you living now? Do you love it? Hate it? In your "forever house" or something in between?
As many of you know we're living in an apt with MIL. Not loving it. But it's temporary and a step in the best direction for my husband's career which is most likely his forever career. (Unless politics later).
    2. Partner: Are you married? Engaged? Dating? Is your partner the type of person you expected to be starting a family with?
Married and yes he's an amazing person and only my second boyfriend ever but I found my Prince Charming!
    3. How many kids do you want?
I can clearly remember holding my newborn when she was just a few weeks old and thinking "I want four more just like this one". But my husband has since talked some sense into me and were probably done after this #2.
    4. What type of car do you drive?
An '04 Kia Amanti (the one with the knock-off jag front) not foolin many ppl... And the right blinker hasn't worked for like a year but we're thinking of selling since DH has a new car.
  • 1. My parents gave us the house I grew up in so that we could be close to them.  It's not our forever home, but we're not planning to move for 4-5 years or so and I'm having fun re-doing everything (albeit slowly).

    2.  Married.  If my younger self could see who I married, I think she'd be pretty darn impressed :) lol

    3. I always wanted 3 but now am considering calling it done at 2!

    4. Our family car is a Ford Edge and our other car is a Mazda 3
  • 1. House.  I love the house, but it's not in a great area or school district so we'll likely move in the next year or so.

    2. Married.  DH was supposed to be a "bad boy" 1 night stand, but he just never went away.  Very early in our relationship, he told me that he had to have kids and that if I didn't, it was a deal breaker. He's an awesome husband & dad.

    3.  We are likely done at 2, but have always left the possibly of #3 open.

    4. My car is a Toyota Rav4.  It's interesting that some people refer to their cars as "his and hers" and some as "family car and other one."

  • 1. Apartment. It's in a great area, close to all of my family, and walking distance to several good restaurants.
    2. Married. He is exactly the type of guy that I thought I would marry.
    3. I've always wanted 5, but financially that is not going to be possible. Right now our number is 3, and this babe will be number 2.
    4. Honda CR-V. I originally bought it with kids in mind, but now I think it's a little small and I want a Suburban.
  • 1. M.A.S.H.: House. Nothing permanent it's just where my husband is currently stationed. We might get moved somewhere this summer, no clue.

    2. Partner: Married. Not at all the kind of person I expected.

    3. How many kids do you want? This one will make 2 and I'm pretty sure that's more than enough.

    4. What type of car do you drive? Audi A3. But she's a diesel involved in the massive recall so I will probably sell it back and get something new in a month or so. Not sure what I want next.

  • 1. Townhome. This was our first home purchase and I do love it in some ways. The size is ok, but after this baby we will likely need more space. Also there's no backyard, just a patio. In this area(a great area) there are parks on every corner and almost no one has a yard. Hoping DH gets a raise within a year or so and we can start to look for a detached home with a yard.

    2. Married. DH and I met 13 years ago when I was just a baby. He was 21 and I.... wasn't even close to 21. But we met at church and immediately fell in love. He is 100% everything I ever imagined and more. And somehow he's even hotter now.

    3. This is still up for discussion. We have 2 boys. If this baby is a girl we may be done. But we both say we aren't sure either way. We are open to the possibility of number 4 but not likely as close in age as the babes we have now.

    4. We finally bought our first car which I love. It's a Ford Flex. DH uses my old Corolla as his commuter car.

  • 1. We live in a 100 year old historic duplex, military housing! Definitely won't be our forever home as we move often.

    2. Married. Exactly who I thought I would be with.

    3. This is the last baby for us. We have 2 DDs already!

    4. Toyota Highlander! We bought it recently specifically because of the third row to fit another baby and here we are!

  • 1.) House. Wouldn't mind bigger bedrooms. I love the area.

2.) Married. He is a great father. I love watching him play with our children.

3.)  I wanted 6:) Five will do. (My mom is from a family of 6. My husband is from a family of 10)

4.) Dodge caravan. We didn't get the van until our fourth was born. I . didn't. want. a van. Now I love it! You push a button and the doors open automatically along with the trunk.
  • 1. We're in a house. It needs some updating to be my dream house, but the layout is great. We're in a good school district in an awesome neighborhood with a lot of parks, so we plan on being here for awhile. I wouldn't say forever because once the kids grow up DH and I would like a smaller house and more land.

    2. Married. He is who I saw myself marrying. He's very laid back (I am not) and I think we balance each other out really well. He always keeps me laughing and is a great dad.

    3. We're undecided. DH wants 4. I think we should see how 2 goes.

    4. A Hummer H3. It's not at all what I saw myself driving, but now that I do, I absolutely love it. It's great in the snow (my parents live in the middle of nowhere so visiting them is always a challenge in the winter) and has a good amount of space without being too big for me to park.
  • 1. Apartment- love it and hate it. We're right smack downtown, so there's no silence, no outdoor space, and all kinds of crazies. But, I'm only a 7 min walk from work, close to friends and things to do, and the upkeep is minimal. I've mentioned this before but we're considering moving out of downtown so we have more room for the babe.
    2. Partner: Married, and yes, hubs is amazing. It'll be fun getting old together.
    3. How many kids do you want? 2. I really wanted twins so it'd be one-and-done, but hey. I'll take what I can get :)
    4. What type of car do you drive? A Hyundai Accent, manual drive. My FIL joked about us getting a minivan, and I laughed it off. That automatic door thing sounds fab though.
  • 1. We just finished building our house a year ago. It is a ranch with a daylight basement. It has 4 bedrooms, which we specifically got for fostering. Now, we will hopefully get to turn one into the nursery... :) DH wants to sell it in a couple years and build again.
    2. Married for a little over 2 years. My husband is absolutely wonderful.
    3. Not even sure. I am an only child and my husband is one of six.
    4. We just bought a Chevy Volt, which my husband drives on his commute to work because he can get all the way there and back on the battery- so we have not gotten gas in nearly a month. I drive our dodge caravan. Love all the space!

  • 1. House. We go back and forth on whether this is our forever home. If we stay in this city then it will be. But we toss around the idea of moving closer to family.

    2. Married for almost 5 years, together for 9. He's pretty much who I imagined I'd end up with.

    3. We always said we'd have 2 and if a third came accidentally we'd be happy with it. But after IF we're happy to have one. I don't know if I'm willing to put us through all that again.

    4. Earlier this year we bought a 2016 VW Jetta. I love it. The backseat is very roomy and the trunk is the biggest I've ever had in a sedan. And it gets amazing gas mileage lol

  • 1. House, and definitely our forever house. Like @Abby7, we got a fixer upper which is a pain but it's a great size and the ideal neighborhood so we're just going to work on it until it's perfect. It is very likely that I will be bringing this newborn home to a total construction zone, that won't be annoying at all!

    2. Married. He's shockingly great, I just didn't see it for many years while we were friends bc he was kind of a bad boy jerk. I can't imagine a better life partner.

    3. I want 3, but we're starting a little late because of infertility issues (this is our first) so I wouldn't be shocked if we stop at 2.

    4. We have a Honda Accord and a Honda Civic (the "clean car" and the "dog car," respectively), but are starting to think about a larger family car like a Subaru Forester or the like.
  • NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot  Lol the car labeling thing is kind of funny.  For me, I was actually only going to put one car, but I didn't know which one to label as "mine" lol.  Whoever has the kid has the SUV and whoever doesn't has the Mazda because my husband REFUSES to allow our son to sit in a compact car.  It drives me crazy mad when that becomes an inconvenience, but I guess I should think its cute that he cares?
  • 1. Rental House. We're planning on starting construction on our house by mid-winter. Timing isn't super ideal but we'll be next door to family as soon as it's completed.
    2. Married. We just celebrated our 5-year anniversary and I am so grateful for him/our marriage. We've been together since I was 18 but I never even thought that I wanted to get married until we had gotten serious. He's been the biggest blessing in my life and way more than I deserve some days.
    3. 2 kids is the plan. I was almost hoping for twins as they run in my family and it's taken us awhile to conceive, but I'm beyond excited for just the one little bean!
    4. RAV4 and we still have my husband's little Ford Ranger (essentially a 2-seater) from college. We've talked about getting a more family friendly second vehicle, but haven't come close to following through quite yet.

    1.  I live with my son in what was supposed to be my forever home.  It's in a great suburb with great schools, where I am a teacher.  However, my fiancé lives in graduate housing at Brown University in Providence, 1500 miles away from us. We are currently looking at houses in the Providence area to move to when we get married in August.

    2.  Engaged for 10 months now.  He is in NO WAY who I expected to end up with, but is no less the love of my life and will be an amazing father.

    3.  I have a son and we will have this one.  So, 2 will be our number.

    4.  I drive a Hyundai Santa Fe and my fiancé just sold his Toyota Tundra because who knew...you can barely function without a car in Oklahoma but a car in Providence is quite burdensome.

  • Cute idea!
    1. House -- just moved in a year ago. It is almost certainly our "forever" home, or at least until all of the kids have made it through the public school system, in which case we may move to the city. The house is a GREAT size for a family of 4 and is definitely pushing it for a family of 5 but DH and I like to keep things small so we'll hopefully just cram in.

    2. Married for 11 years, together for 16. He is not exactly the person I had in mind way back when, though the pre-DH time was practically high school. He is actually 1000 times better than who I had in mind. I thought I wanted to be with someone just like me and true, it is nice to be with someone who has the same values. But I'm SO glad our personalities are actually quite different because we compliment each other really well. Basically, I'm with the man of better-than-my-dreams. My DH is literally better than prince charming.

    3. Three. I guess if you asked me for the past decade or so I would have said "two or three." We decided to go for #3 and now that I'm pregnant that's our answer! If we were to lose this one, the answer would be two, though. We would not try again because we wanted to maintain a maximum age gap. I'd consider adopting but DH isn't interested.

    4. Toyota Corolla. We only have one car even though everyone who lives where we live has two. We might need a second (and bigger) car with this baby on the way. It gets tricky managing where to get kids in different locations as is. And I really have no idea if you can fit 3 carseats across the back of a corolla.

  • 1. M.A.S.H.: Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House--where are you living now? Do you love it? Hate it? In your "forever house" or something in between? We bought DH's parents' house and have been IMPROVING on it ever since. No way I would have stayed here the way it used to look! I think we'll stay here for a while.
    2. Partner: Are you married? Engaged? Dating? Is your partner the type of person you expected to be starting a family with? I have been married for 3 years this month. It depends on the day whether I think he is what I expected or not... :)
    3. How many kids do you want? I want 3, but I'm pretty sure DH is going to draw the line at 2.
    4. What type of car do you drive? Toyota Camry
  • Fun GTKY!!!

    1. House. Not our "forever" house because we are not in a good school district. But we love our neighborhood and live down the street from some of our best friends. We aren't sure what our forever house is going to be or where but I'd like to build someday!

    2. Married. Had our 2-year anniversary in August. I don't think he's who I pictured but he's amazing.

    3. I've always wanted 3. DH wants 2. We'll just start with 1 for now :)

    4. I just got a new RAV4 Hybrid in August and I LOVE it. It's definitely "my car" but DH works 45 min away and drives a beat up old pick up so he drives it to work whenever he can (I don't have far to go etc).
  • 1. Dream Home/ Mansion (to us!). We built our dream home on a 2.5 acre lot in a rural area of WashingtonDC metro area- I have a large garden, pond were my husband fishes. We were very fortunate to build a huge home for us at 3800 square feet. Plenty of room to grow. We plan in staying in this home until we retire.

    2. DH rocks! I always wanted a manly man- he hunts, fishes, plays softball... I tease him that he is never around because of his hobbies.

    3. Plan is 3 kids but hoping to talk hubby into a 4th- he thinks I am super sexy pregnant so it should be easy.

    4. We have a Kia sorrento as our family car. DH drives an older Chevy cobalt (2 doors) for commuting only.
  • 1.  House.. Not our forever home, my parents are buying it from us because they need a one story due to my moms health and we will be searching for our forever home.
    2. Married.. He's not exactly what I thought I'd end up with, however he is a wonderful husband and father and has so many qualities I didn't even know I wanted.
    3. I wanted three and if all goes well that is what we will have. we are definitely finished after this.
    4. I have a town and country and my husband has a trailblazer.
  • 1. M.A.S.H.: Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House--where are you living now? Do you love it? Hate it? In your "forever house" or something in between?  House, not our forever home as we plan to sell and build our dream home in 2-3 years

    2. Partner: Are you married? Engaged? Dating? Is your partner the type of person you expected to be starting a family with?  MH is not the person I thought I'd be married to in college but he is so much better. We were married in May of this year. He is so excited to be a dad and asks everyday how the baby is! I am very lucky to have met him.

    3. How many kids do you want? We would like 2, but excited/nervous for number 1 right now...

    4. What type of car do you drive? I drive a Toyota RAV4 and DH drives a Jeep Cherokee. I really want a Toyota Highlander but don't think it will fit in our garage so that may have to wait until the next house.

  • 1. MASH: Apartment. We're fairly new here and wanted to get to know the city first. We plan to house hunt in the beginning of 2017 and hopefully move in by mid March. Not looking forward to being in the third tri for that but at least I won't have to lift a finger? ;)

    2. PARTNER: Our 4yr wedding anniversary is in a month. We've been together for over 11 years. I never pictured anyone, as he was my first love at age 19. But I certainly cannot picture life without him!

    3. KIDS: We agreed on 2. He originally wanted 4 before he started getting serious about his future.

    4. CAR: We have just our one Honda CRV. We had a 2nd one, an older model, but sold it before we moved cross-country. We only live a mile away from his work so he commutes by bike when the weather is cooperative. Eventually we'll look into an older compact car for him before we get a house. I do want a minivan later down the road, whenever it's time to trade in the CRV.

    2. Partner: We're married. Been together 6 years and our two year anniversary is May 15th. I'm not sure what I envisioned for my partner but he definitely has a lot of great attributes.

    3. How many kids do you want? I always wanted two, but he keeps saying we might have three. Who knows what will actually happen.

    4. What type of car do you drive? I have a Subaru Impreza, he drives a Chevy Silverado (plus a dump truck and a lot of machines).
  • 1. We just bought a new house. Unfortunatly my neighbor is unbearable! It's in an unincorporated area, we were hoping to try to buy the lot behind us and expand. However I don't think I could live next to my neighbor that long... if we don't do any renovations it's going to be a 5 year home, which sucks it's in our perfect area and schools.

    2. Partner: Married 3years! He's not exactly what I imagined, but he's exactly what I need in a partner. He's going to be an amazing dad!!

    3. Kids: I'm already 32 it's been a long road getting to 1, I'll feel blessed if I can have 2! I wanted more. I'm going to see how the first goes and then plan from there...

    4: Car: I drive a Hyundai Sonata.

    1. We live in a co-op apartment. We are planning to sell this place and buy a house in the suburbs in the next year or two- we are ready to get out of the city!
    2. We have been married for a little over a year. He is not the type I expected when I was younger, but we are perfect together. He is going to be an amazing father.
    3. I want 2 or 3, DH wants 2.
    4. Toyota Camry. We live in NYC so it gets neglected and we only drive it once or twice a month. :expressionless:

  • 1. House - It is okay. My husband bought it before we met, and if it was his choice we would live here forever, I'm holding out hope that I can convince him otherwise yet!
    2. Married - He is not someone my young self imagined I would end up with, however he is a good man and a fantastic father to our little girl.
    3. 2 and done. This will be our last, and then sending the hubs in for a little snip.
    4. I drive a GMC Acadia Denali. I absolutely love it. All of the room a van can offer, but way more swagger ;-)

  • 1. We live in a house, but plan to move into a bigger house in a better school district at some point soon. I'm not sure yet if this is going to happen before or after #2 arrives.

    2. Married, for 8 years. He's better than what I thought I could get, maybe too good because sometimes I just don't feel like I measure up!

    3. This is #2 for us, and probably our last.  I might want a third but I doubt that will happen.

    4.  I used to drive a Subaru Forester while he drove a Subaru Outback.  Now we've basically switched cars since I have DS and can use the extra space.  We may be trading in the forester for a minivan at some point...

1 - We live in house that we bought a little over 5 years ago. It was our 5 year plan, that actually worked out perfectly, so we are on our way out the door. We started talking to a realtor this week and I hope to be in something we build by next summer.

2 - Married for 5 years (Our anniversary is actually next Saturday!) and we have been together since I was a sophomore in high school. In some ways he is exactly what I pictured but in other ways not. He is amazing and I wouldn't have it any other way.

3 - This will be our second and we are done after that. I think if I told DH to get snipped right now he would be running out the door before I could finish my sentence.

    4 - I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    1. M.A.S.H.: Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House--where are you living now? Do you love it? Hate it? In your "forever house" or something in between?
We're in a house that we built a few years ago. When we went through the design process, it was with the intent of starting a family and having room to expand. I don't know that it's our forever home, but we certainly won't be moving at time soon!

    2. Partner: Are you married? Engaged? Dating? Is your partner the type of person you expected to be starting a family with?
I'm married. My husband took me by surprise in every way when we started dating. He's 5 years younger than me, and very different from most of the other people I'd dated. But when it comes to the important things, he is just the kind of guy I'd hoped to be with.

    3. How many kids do you want?
This will be our second, and we both feel like this is where we'll stop. Never say never, though! Haha

    4. What type of car do you drive?
Right now I have an Audi A6, but I'm looking at SUV's so that when the little peanut shows up I've got more room.

  • @SJsMommy - I've been considering the Acadia! Do infants seat fit in the back comfortably? It seems like a lot of the mid-sized SUV's I've looked at are still a tight squeeze with the infant seat, and you end up having to pull the front seats up. That's how my car is now, and I want to avoid that when I get something new.

    1. M.A.S.H.: Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House--where are you living now? Do you love it? Hate it? In your "forever house" or something in between? Apartment. We don't love it and we are hoping to move in the next couple of months. I would love to find a house/townhouse with our own little yard or patio- some kind of outdoor space to call our own. SO and I both grew up in the country/went to rural schools. We are city slickers now- which fits us well but we have no idea how to raise a child in an urban area. Can't exactly let them run loose the way he and I did growing up!
    2. Partner: Are you married? Engaged? Dating? Is your partner the type of person you expected to be starting a family with? We are dating (6 years). We are opposites in a lot of ways and luckily we met in college (and not earlier) because I was very closed-minded and stubborn when I was in HS and I wouldn't have given him the time of day. We are also from different socio-economic backgrounds and had very different experiences, so we've been able to grow a lot and figure out "adulting" together. He is great though and we get along well.
    3. How many kids do you want? I've always wanted 3 (I'm one of 5) and SO is an only child. He is more comfortable with 2. I've also always wanted twins (since I was about 7 yrs old), so I jokingly tell him we will have one kid and then when we go for the 2cd it will be twins. Then I'll have my 3 *evil laughter* - as if I have any control over that.
    4. What type of car do you drive? I don't drive. I'm working on getting my license (which I never got at the common age for a # of reasons). When that happens we might get a car. I used to have a 91 Honda Accord, but it was rather useless since I couldn't legally drive it. I sold it to pay for my first term of college.
