Re: October/November IVF

  • @ChristinaV2015 How did you feel after ER? Was it just sore ovaries and constipation? I feel similarly, but am feeling better each day...
@sleepyrn I don't know if I'm just lucky or what, but the PIO shots have not been any worse than the other shots on my stomach. Maybe my hubby is just getting SO GOOD at administering? lol. I DID feel a little sore on my bum when I got in my car to go to work (morning after 1st PIO)... but I am fine now!
@JuliaAnn86 welcome and GOOD LUCK! I hope you find lots of support and good info... most importantly, know you are NOT ALONE and we are all here cheering for you!

As for me, I am keeping my fingers SO CROSSED that our transfer on Friday works. We got 2 embryos! The nurse who was at my ER this past Sunday told me she has a 14 year old son who was from 3 eggs she got through IVF, so I am staying hopeful and positive!

I want to ask a general question: What are your thoughts on the PGS testing? My doc told me that I could do PGS testing if I wanted to, but because of my age (34) it shouldn't be a concern for me... Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!?
Me: 35 DOR, low AMH = 0.694, and fibroids
    DH: 41
    Married 10/25/2014 / TTC since 05/2015
    1st IUI 05/05/16 Letrozole 7.5 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
    2nd cycle on Letrozole 7.5 mg CD 3-11 + TI = BFN
3rd cycle on Letrozole but did our 2nd IUI on 07/01/16. 10 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
Onto IVF! Started Lupron on 09/24. Added Gonal F and hcg injections 09/26...... Trigger 10/07. EggRetrieval 10/09. Starting PIO, Estrace, and Medrol 10/10/16. Transferred 2 "strong/beautiful" embryos 10/14/16. Beta 10/28/16 = 998 mIU/mL = BFP with one baby, but miscarried at 9w5d.
D&C on 12/06/17 and started taking BCPs 01/10/17 for the next IVF Cycle, which officially began stims on 02/18/17.
Fast Forward: we got 4 fertilized embryos from that cycle. Transferred one fresh, but it did not stick, so we have 3 frozen embryos currently. Went in to the fertility clinic in July to talk about a FET of one of those three frozen embryos, but a new fibroid was discovered, and I was not cleared to do the transfer until I had fibroid removal surgery.
08/11/17 had a mini-laparotomy / myomectomy to remove 6 fibroids, largest sized were the size of golf-balls! Once we were cleared to go about our normal lives (sex!) I got pregnant NATURALLY but it was a chemical pregnancy. The very next month we had another BFP and here we are now with a baby on the way! A TOTAL AND COMPLETE MIRACLE!

  • @ChristinaV2015 at my er, I had:
    43 eggs
36 mature (icis on all 36)
    27 fertilized
By day 6, we were only at 3 embryos :(  My body definitely did quality over quality.  We did pgs testing and now have 2 embryos.

I gained over 9 pounds of fluid and had to have my abdomen aspirated, and they drained over 2 1/2 liters of fluid.  It was a horrible week following my er.  Hopefully you can rest of start to feel better soon!  But be sure, to call your re if you are worried!
  • Well, I guess I have to take myself off this board. I cried myself silly this morning. I'm 8lbs short of the weight goal they gave me (which I was supposed to have off by ER) but apparently they aren't even going to let me start stims now.  I'm not morbidly obese or anything, they just had a number they wanted me at for a specific BMI and I didn't hit it.  I've been taken off the schedule until December with ER the first week of January.  So I guess it's goodbye for now ladies.  Good luck!  I'll be lurking and reading from time to time.

    me:41 dh:42
me:PCOS, blocked left fallopian tube, hyperprolactinemia  (dh's swimmers are perfect/normal)
Tried 3 rounds of clomid with Ovidrel trigger (BFNs)
May/June 2016 IVF   6/1 ER 7 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized via ICSI  6 embryos made it to blasts.
6/6 2 AA embryos transfered, 4 BBs frozen
    Beta 6/18  -- BFN
    FET #1 August 22 BFN
Dec 2016/Jan 2017 Round 2 was a bust. 6 eggs, Only 1 embryo made it, no transfer
FET #2 cancelled 10/17 due to uterine polyps. Postponed until 9/2018 due to hip replacement.

FET #3 9/11/18 Uterine scratch and antihistamine protocol/lovenox done this time. 2 AA hatching blasts put in.  BFP 9/20/18!!

  • So transfer went well they both are 6 to 8 cells but they have cell debris. Doesn't mean they wont work but if we had more to choose from they wouldn't have chosen these. Praying they are strong and fighters. They also did assisted hatching.
  • @sleepyrn why are they making you lose weight? i am what most would call morbidly obese at like 40% bmi but they never took my weight into account with anything i have done other than seeing the anesthesiologist prior to ER.  i am sorry they did that to you and over 8lbs to me that feels wrong

  • Isthisthereallife- No positive OPK yet, BW is tomorrow. Based on that we will decide how to move forward. Hopefully I won't be in limbo too much longer. That really sucks about the hemoglobin :( I believe broccoli is really high in iron if you get sick of the red meat, liver and raisins!
shauna43- duh, i should have remembered that! when I'm only on my phone its hard to remember without the siggys. One week until you get started- so exciting!
elisam511- 2 strong embryos is good! Are you going to put both in? As far as PGS goes, I definitely think it can help avoid m/c heartache. I would consider doing it if you had to pick an embryo from a large group, but i will likely only get a couple embryos (if I am lucky!), so I don't think its worth spending the $$ for only 2 embryos.
sleepyrn- I'm so sorry. That just doesn't seem fair at all! BMI really isn't a good measure of health...especially for shorter and more muscular people. They should have a more comprehensive health assessment than that! Like take into consideration your blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. Even my work health assessment looks at those things! I really hope you can get started soon again!
tiffavis12- congrats on the transfer! I hope these 2 both stick! when is your beta?

  • @JamieH2000 beta is 10/25. Praying this works after 5 failed iuis (1 chemical pregnancy)
  • @sleepyrn I'm sorry. That is ridiculous to make you wait!  Bmi shouldn't be a that big of a deal, especially if you're only 8 lbs from what they want! My DH is considered overweight by bmi measures. He's 6'4 and 200 lbs. He's all muscles. So, bmi doesn't mean anything!  can you appeal or speak with someone else to see if they will reconsider?

@JamieH2000 I'm with you on not being able to see siggys on the phone. Makes it difficult to keep up. Good luck on the bw tomorrow. Hopefully, you will have ovulated and the tests you were using were just defective. Also, if you are interested in PGS testing, I think you may be able to send in multiple batches up to 7 or 8 embryos for testing for a fixed price. At least, that's what my re said when we mentioned we wanted to bank embryos since we may only get a couple each cycle, if we are lucky, and then have them tested.

@tiffavis12 fx that at least one of your embies sticks!

    @elisam511
We elected to do PGS testing and I'm only a few years behind you.  My RE told us that most miscarriages are related to chromosomal abnormalities and we figured we're spending so much time, money and energy that we don't want to go through it again by transferring a embryo that very likely won't make it.

  • Thank you all for the warm welcome! It's so comforting to find others going on the journey as well.

@ChristinaV2015 We are not doing PGS. I'm being seen in Houston at HFI and my doctor prefers to do FET over fresh. His concern is my body/endometrial environment after all the hormone injections (I'm on pretty high doses of follistim and menopur- just added cetrotide). I believe he wants to have a bit more control of everything before transferring an embryo. I'm relying on his expertise. Fingers crossed.

I'm cycle day 5 now and have added cetrotide. I was worried it was going to hurt like hell, but to my surprise it hurt less than the menopur and folistim injection. I'm having to give all injections to myself (as an RN I'm used to being one giving shots, not the recipient! lol) because i'm actually IVF'ing in our home state and staying with family while my husband continues to work in Oklahoma. During my visit today I was told my ER would be sometime mid to the end of next week.  I'll continue to have ultrasounds every other day until then.  I feel like it's going to be here before I know it! Super excited. Other than feeling a little emotional and random hot flashes on day 3, it's been a pretty smooth process :)

  • DH and I did orientation on Tuesday and I feel much better knowing what's going on. RE office faxed my perscriptions to my pharmacy. I called the pharmacy yesterday to see what my prescription cost was going to be and get them mailed. There was an issue with my prescription paper bc the nurse signed it and not the Dr. why wouldn't they have called??? I'm so irritated and now I have to run around today and hope this gets fixed. Hoping to start next week. FX.
  • The appointment today went well- she likes what she sees so far. We should get about 10-12 follicles, and she thinks more of them will be better quality this time. She told me she should have more to choose from this time.

Estimated time of ER- Monday or Tuesday, looking more like Tuesday. Day 3 transfer on Thursday or Friday( depends on the the ER day)

  • @Isthisthereallife I use CVS Specialty and Mandelles (just for the estrdiol that CVS was out of).  My clinic sends it over, and then I call to follow up and there just seems to always be some sort of a snag.  It is super irritating, but if my insurance covers any of the meds (which it rarely does) it needs to go through CVS, otherwise I would have switched.

  • @kp214- that is an interesting idea to bank embryos and PGS test them. I may bring that up to my RE. If my reserve is already low, and ideally I would like two children (if I ever get one :)), it may make sense to try to bank some. Just so ready to have a baby NOW! haha
JuliaAnn86- glad everything is going good and progressing! I thought the ganirelax (which I believe is the same as cetrocide) hurt the most, so thats really good it didn't burn for you!
JAH87- I had major prescription ordering issues the first time too. I have CVS like @jodes727 and it was quite the ordeal. Worked out in the end. I'm sure they will get yours to you in time. Keep calling!
Colleen0516- 10-12 is great and so happy that they think they will be good quality! It gives me hope because I am doing estrogen priming too (not sure I will get more than a couple of days before AF either). Keep us posted on ER. I am cheering for you soo much!

Today was hopefully the first days of good news for me! I DID ovulate, so I can get started! They aren't sure when or why the test didn't pick it up, so now I am just hoping i can get at least 4 out of the 7 days I am supposed to estrogen prime before AF comes. Its day 21 and my normal cycle is 25-27, though last month was 23 (maybe from the DHEA). I just put on my first estrogen patch and then change those every other day. I also do a ganirelax shot tomorrow night, sat and then sunday night. I will likely start stimming sometime next week. Thank you for all the support and positivity ladies! It helped keep me hopeful when I had given up on getting started this month.

  • @JamieH2000 yay!!  You get to start your cycle!  If it makes you feel any better, I will be going on cycle day 21 for bw to confirm ovulation and then the next evening or two days after start Estrace. I usually average 25-26 days per cycle. I was very concerned that I wouldn't be on the estrogen long enough if I had another cycle like last month, 23 days. However, my nurse said it would be ok and that I'd be in the estrogen until at least day 3 of stims. Try not to stress. I know... It's very hard to not worry and stress.

@Colleen0516 I'm so happy you are able to do this cycle. Sounds like it is going well!  Yay!

@JAH87 CVS Caremark is awful to deal with for infertility meds!  I felt like they were driving me crazy intentionally last cycle. I'm sorry it's so stressful.

  • @colleen0516- I really haven't heard of anyone else doing the ganirelax like that either. I think my nurse told me or I read that it was to stop recruitment of lead follies, which was my problem last time. Hopefully it helps!

@kp214- sounds like we have very similar cycles and protocols! What day are you on right now? Are you doing the at home opks too? CBD has never failed me before so no idea why it didn't work this month. Lots of stress I didn't need for the last 2 weeks, so I definitely need to try not to stress anymore like you said :0)

  • @JamieH2000 that's what I though when I read your post, very similar protocols and cycle!  I'm on cd16. I'm not doing opks. My re wants bw and said that I didn't need to check. I can usually tell based off physical symptoms and cm. Although, this month has been different.  I'm hoping and praying all your stressful stuff is behind you and that the rest is easy and successful.

  • Hi all sorry I've been MIA.  Crazy week at work.

@JamieH2000 & @Colleen0516 Yeah for moving forward.  So excited to see you both able to move forward!

@tiffavis12 & @elisam511 how did your transfers go? Hoping for sticky beans!!

    @BecauseLove welcome to the group!

AFM: still bloat but the pain has subsided.  Tomorrow is my day 5 transfer.  Transferring 2 embabies aka the pumpkins! And finding out the status of any others that may make it to freeze!  I'm excited and nerve wracked bc with my stenotic cervix my transfers are always painful.  But DH will be with me. I'm really hoping my office gives us a picture of our little ones.  My last one didn't and I think it's so awesome that some do!  We shall see how tomorrow goes!
  • @ChristinaV2015 thanks for asking. It went well rested all day after the transfer and the following day. Now the dreaded 2 week wait. With an iui you worry did egg and sperm meet with the ivf which this is my first you know they met and did their thing. I test oct 25th.
  • @tiffavis12 my Beta is the 25th too.  I never had an IUI but I wonder the whole 2 WW if everything is alright and what they're doing in there.
  • I need some positive vibes! I'm supposed to have my baseline Tuesday and start injections Thursday. I have not got my period yet...the clinic messed up by taking me off BCP at my saline sonogram 9/13. I had my period the week before saline and then started again the week after. I have not had a period since.

Im at the Navy clinic and they prefer that I am on BCP for 10 days prior but because the messed up they may be willing to let me do a natural cycle start on Thursday but I have to get my dang period today or tomorrow! I went to acupuncture Thurs and have been taking herbs. If I can't start my meds next week I am most likely getting bumped and have no idea if it will be 2 weeks or even longer. The nurse tried to reassure me but then said the calendar is now full until January. But she will squeeze me in. Honestly, I'm pretty depressed about it. Trying to figure out how to get happy and just accept what comes.

  • @christinav2015- good luck with transfer today! Let us know how it went!
@mandasand- delays are the worst :0( sending you good vibes to get AF! That really sucks how they have to schedule everything like that. Thinking of you and hope the timing works out!

  • Hi everyone! This is my first time joining in on this board, so I will start out with a brief summary: We have been TTC for about 6 years, and I have a mixture of endo, fibroids, and scar tissue around the entrance of the cervix. We have been through several laparoscopy's and an abdominal myomectomy, as well as clomid and iui's.

We met with our fertility specialist last week, and it was a breath of fresh air. The entire team was so friendly and helpful, it was definitely a reassuring experience. With that being said, my period is expected on 10/24, and will start estrogen priming on cd 3 before i being stims. At this time I don't know the dosage of what i will be taking, but should find out next week. My AMH came back yesterday and it was at 6.25, which they said was good. I'm just really trying to stay positive and optimistic with IVF. In previous years, I slowly let myself get into a really dark place with infertility, and I don't want to let that happen this time. Ok this was a not a brief summary like i said it would be.  :#

I am catching up and reading everyones post in this thread and all of you are rockstars  <3
TTC #1: March 2011 (slightly before)
    Fur-children: 3 dogs + 2 cats (all rescued)
    dx: Endometriosis and Fibroids
2 Laps and 1 Abdominal Myomectomy
    6 rounds of clomid
    5 rounds of iui
Several HSG's sprinkled throughout the years to up my chances of a BFP
Several dilation of cervix because they suspect the scar tissue is hindering it from fully opening (partially adds to the severe cramps all month)
IVF #1 Gonal F, Menopur and Cetrotide
    ER 12/1/2016
    ER-Retrieved 22 eggs 10 fertilized
4/4 day 5 embryos were normal for PGS!!! 2 boys/2 girls
    FET 1/10/2017
    Gallbladder surgery 1/10/2017
FET estimated end of Feb, beginning of March

  • Hello all; I am happy to join this board as I had my baseline on Friday and start stims tomorrow. This is my first IVF cycle after a year working with a different RE but never getting to retrieval.

Several things are different at the new RE. When I got my baseline u/s they quickly checked for cysts and that was it. and then bloodwork to check estrogren and LH. At the old RE they would always count my follicles (which have always been low).

This time I took bcp for 3 weeks, then 2 days after I took the last one I went in for the baseline. I still don't have AF but the RE said it didn't matter. I think because she wants to freeze any embryos we may get for PGS testing so she doesn't think my lining matters for this cycle. My stims are: microdose Lupron 10ml twice a day starting tomorrow, then adding 450 of Gonal F on Monday (in 2 doses, 225 each). I've never taken two Gonal F shots a day and not taken Menopur. I will be on this protocol for one week before my first u/s appt. This is all so different from before but I need to try something new, so I'm game.

Good luck to everyone starting stims soon or waiting for AF. The waiting is the hardest part.
  • Starting medication tmrw night. Started consults in the summer. Starting to get nervous but trying not to think about it. Can anyone tell me about their experience w medicine side effects? Im
on gonal and low dose hcg to start.
  • @Winnie81- Welcome! It sounds like you have been through alot. IVF can be overwhelming, the success rates are so much better than IUI, so hopefully you will only need one round!
lrynwnab- Cancellations are the worst. My first round was cancelled in August and it was devastating. This time we are trying a totally different, more aggressive protocol. I have a borderline low AMH and likely DOR. I am surprised they put you on BC, usually with poor response cycles RE's avoid it next time since it can suppress you too much. I really hope this cycle is your one! Keep us posted!
@kwoolf002- Hope your meds go good tonight. I haven't had many side effects on the stims really. For me, ganirelax has been the worst (it burns), but I haven't gotten to PIO yet, which seems to be the worst for most ladies on here. Good luck!

How are all the other ladies that have started stimming doing? I am hoping to be joining you sometime this week!

  • That's great news @Colleen0516!!  Hoping and praying this is your time!!

Welcome to the new ladies... and good luck with the meds.  I hated every moment of them this time but kept my focus on the gift that we will receive in the end!

AFM.  Transfer was yesterday! PUPO! With 2 beautiful grade BB 5 days... one was an expanded blast and one was a blast!  I still have 8 more that they were monitoring to freeze today.  I'll get an update tomorrow or Tuesday.

Hoping and praying for my little pumpkins.

PS my bum is super sore already from the PIO shots!
  • Congrats on the transfer @ChristinaV2015 and being pupo!

Yesterday I decreased my dose of lupron from 20 to 10 ml and then tonight I added estradiol in to the mix.  I usually give myself all of my own injections, but since this in given in my butt cheek, my husband did it.  I totally trust him, but makes me more nervous having someone else inject it.
Also, I had some spotting today, which was odd.  AF arrived a week ago and was over by Thursday.  Is anyone else getting spotting?  Not sure if it is a side effect of lupron (which I've been on before) or just random spotting.
I have my first lining check and b/w on Thursday.  Less than 3 weeks til fet!
