@SienaC "viability" meaning when baby reaches a stage in pregnancy where it can be born and has a reasonable chance of survival!
Heres a little chart I found for the weeks, and chance of survival. I'm not high risk-or thinking baby will be coming early, but it's nice to see the weeks pass by and breath a little easier with each one. Just like seeing the chance of miscarriage drop with each week in the first trimester.
Every hospital and source is different - some count "viability" a the 23wks, some 24. But there are babies that survive born at 22! It just amazes me that we're anywhere near a stage that our babes could survive without us. And also makes me thank God for modern medicine!!
@RunBooRun I'm so sorry you have this added worry! I hope you can relax today and try to trust all is okay. Will you be able to get seen tomorrow? Prayers!
I've been spotting since yesterday. Midwife on call didn't seem worried, but of course I'm worrying. Taking it easy today. T&Ps would be appreciated.
Praying that all will be well with baby! I had spotting last weekend. It's scary but try and take comfort in the fact that your midwife isn't concerned. Put your feet up and relax and try not to worry.
@RunBooRun I'm sorry you're having to deal with spotting! I'd be struggling to relax too. I hope you can get in to see your midwife tomorrow and have some reassurance. T&P it's just an irritated cervix or something similarly benign.
Thanks everyone. It seems to have stopped. I already have an appointment scheduled for Tuesday, so I'll definitely be seen then. If it starts back up again tonight or tomorrow, I'll call and ask to come in sooner.
@RunBooRun spotting is scary anytime during pregnancy.. In my thoughts and prayers for sure!!
i had a really bad bleed with my second son and we were in the ER expecting a loss, but low and behold his heartbeat was strong and the bleeding got less and less over the next couple of days. It's not always bad news, hang in there!
You don't have to tell the whole bump board but if you happened to have sex within 24 hours of the spotting it could definitely be from that which is normal too. Keep us updated!!
@kjd291 I your countdowns! What is considered viability? I want to start a countdown for my babe!
I heard 21 weeks
I think it depends on the hospital, state, and doctor. Sadly, in some of the medical articles I was finding, it advises to not even attempt to give medical care for newborns 22weeks and under **but I guess the reasoning is that they very rarely survive, and if they do, with very major disabilities**
I'm glad the spotting is clearing up. I know how scary it is. I've had it in all pregnancies and an abruption with my daughter. All babies have been healthy so far
