My mom got some results back from last weeks surgery - they removed 6 lymph nodes along with a malignant tumor. The good(ish) news is that NONE of the lymph nodes contained cancerous cells and the tumor had clear borders! The next steps are still not planned but this is great news!
@fourPsinapod Yay for good news! You must be breathing a little easier now.
I've been feeling just on the edge of depression lately, and decided to buy some new expensive perfume to make me feel better. So I ordered a bunch of perfume samples and they all seem to smell like burning tires or rotting squirrel on my skin. I hate that my skin kills even the nicest perfumes. Blech. Maybe that belonged in bitchfest.
My parents have been listening to me bitch about my sciatica all weekend, so my dad surprised me this afternoon with a Snoogie pillow. I was really touched by the thoughtful gift, and I cannot waiiiiiit to see if it helps!
We took the kids to see Pete's Dragon this weekend and I pretty much bawled through the whole thing. I'd like to blame pregnancy hormones for not holding it together, but I'm not sure, lol.
That's great news, @fourPsinapod !! So happy for you and your mom.
Today is my son's second birthday. I kept him home from daycare.... We spent almost 2 hours at the park, then went shopping for his present at toys r us and for supper, I made him his fave (Kraft dinner duh) and had cake. It was a really nice and surprisingly quiet day.

I just got new perfume - Gucci Bamboo! Did you try that?
@NiceyMeany I have trouble with sciatica too. My doctor told me to get a pregnancy belly band, because it forces you to have good posture (my posture is naturally pretty shitty). Anyway you could try that too if you haven't already.
Speaking of wine. I had a glass here or there last time. Does champagne count as wine? I will not be able to get through the holidays without a glass! Being pregnant over the holidays is not going to be fun for me.
@tentacular Oooooh, I LOVE scents. What did you sample?? luckyscent is the bomb dot com for perfume samples.
I agree with @WinchesterGirl that noses can be off in pregnancy, but your hormones and skin both really change a lot during pregnancy, so stuff that might normally smell lovely might not work the same way on you for the next six months. I feel your frustration!
@poetryandoceansI tried a few from Imaginary Authors and LOVED Falling into the Sea, but it smelled sickly sweet and bloated on my skin. The only scents that smelled nice on me were the masculine ones (it's a unisex brand). I tried one that smelled like campfires and forest and vanilla that I want to buy for H. They also have one that smells like rainstorms, it's gorgeous, but really masculine. I also tried some wonderful citrus perfumes from Atelier Cologne (I like light and bright) that turned tragically weird on my skin. They do this orange perfume that is amaze-balls and I was so sad it wouldn't work for me. Maybe I'll try again after this little guy comes.
@winchestergirl Might be right that it's pregnancy hormones or pregnancy nose... But it's probably just me. Most perfumes turn weird and stinky on me. Lol... I once had this horrible girl tell me I stunk of feet and BO. It was a grapefruit vanilla perfume I'd tried and it was so light and fresh and pretty in the bottle. Apparently not a winner on me! Though I have to hope she was exaggerating.
@fourPsinapod I just looked that one up and it sounds pretty! Is it really floral? I don't usually do florals... But it sounds warm and sexy. maybe I'll request a sample!
@tentacular it is sort of floral but not overpowering. I really like it! If you can, Ulta has it in store and you could sample it there. I think they might still have a free weekender bag if you spend over $30 in fragrance.
@Jab3 I think Olivia's 5 day diastasis fix is on her website so that's a good sample without FB. If you're on instagram she set up an account that she's been using just for posting videos of various individual exercises. Her website is oliviacagle.com (can't link because the filters at work think its sex education lol).
Another one I've seen but have not used is fit2be.com (link is set directly to their diastasis section). It is website based so it's another option. I've also heard Olivia talk a lot about Katy Bowman, but I think she focuses more specifically on making sure you're staying aligned properly rather than focusing on healing the diastasis (although alignment is a big component of healing).
Is there any specific reason you avoid facebook? It can definitely be a time drainer, so I can completely understand avoiding it. I actually went through not too long ago and unfollowed almost everyone on my friends list (as well as unfriended a bunch of people), so that my feed is almost exclusively groups I've joined and my non-annoying family. It's helped me cut back a lot on the mindless surfing but still lets me use it as a resource for things that can genuinely benefit me.
I'm telling my boss today and I'm a little nervous. I just started this job in early July and I got the BFP the day before I got the job offer (late June). I'm with the same company but I switched sides of the company/departments/jobs. Wish me luck and send positive vibes! Eek.
@skiingstark I kind of skimmed it but that's almost exactly what happened to my SIL who had her baby last week but I guess they intervened in time. Her milk had not come in, baby was crying nonstop and she had no idea he was dehydrated. Took him to pedi on day 3 found out he was dehydrated and had lost a lot of weight and had a bit of jaundice. Doctor recommended formula. She's still trying to nurse and pump and it's like day 9 or something and still no milk. It's definitely something to be aware of that I did not have an issue with the first time.
@skiingstark, that was a really crazy scary article on breastfeeding. I think one of the key things there is making sure you are monitoring closely and know if you are actually making milk. Hand expressing or using a manual pump would tell you, as would hearing the baby swallowing.

@tentacular Ooh, I've never smelled Imaginary Authors stuff. I'm going to have to look out for it, especially the one that smells like rainstorms! But I love Atelier A lot of their stuff is very bright and crisp.
Have you tried the Commodity sampling pack? Lots of really lovely and slightly offbeat scents, and they're designed to be layered together however you like. It might help you figure out what notes are reacting so funny on your skin and maybe perhaps let you brew up something with one of their more "masculine" bases, with a light layer of something citrusy on top?
Also, have you smelled Serge Lutens? He's one of my favourite perfume designers, all his stuff is great, and he does an orange blossom scent that is just amazing.
I haven't read the article yet, did it mention whether the baby was still producing the "normal" number of wet diapers? That's what I've always been told to monitor as a way to see whether baby's dehydrated.
For anyone that hasn't pumped before, you should know that the quantity you can pump isn't necessarily the quantity the baby gets when nursing. Babies are typically a lot more effective than pumps plus your body typically responds better to the baby, so you might only be able to pump 2 oz, but baby might get 3-4 oz when nursing. I know it's on the opposite end of the spectrum than this discussion, but I wanted to bring it up because I've known a few women that thought they weren't making enough milk because they weren't getting 4-5 oz every time they pumped.
Like @silvercamaro77 said, I was always told to monitor diapers to make sure baby was adequately hydrated. My son was also a very loud nurser, so he made it pretty obvious he was gulping down milk. haha. That, and I also had a pretty fast let down that would spray
So I've been MIA the last week because I had to finish editing client photos. I've still been having all day nausea/vomiting so I've been procrastinating like crazy, but figured to get on the ball. Now that all of my photo sessions are edited and sent out, I feel free! I love photography, but I'm glad to be able to take a little break and be able to work on some personal projects(like my son's 2yr video)
@concreteangell aw I'm glad he had a good birthday! I remember your son's bday was close to my son's. We're also planning a nice little day together on Thursday. H will be playing hooky(well not really since he asked for the day off), so we can go to the aquarium and then go out for DS favorite meal- Pizza!
I think this article confirms that I'm extremely glad I saw a lactation consultant within the first week. I was able to see that she was getting plenty of milk whereas before that I was kind of wondering what was happening. But I also did not have the issue of her screaming/crying nonstop which might have clued me in that something was wrong? It's hard to say looking back now.
@kirstynikole aww that sounds fun! I was thinking of taking DS to the aquarium sometime soon as well. Hope you guys have a great day on Thursday and happy birthday to your little guy in advance!

@homemake a lactation consultant is such a good reassurance. I was so lucky to have one at the hospital within my first 2 days, and my son's pediatrician is a lactation consultant as well! I recommend all ladies look into their hospital and inquire about one- it can be very beneficial!
I'm not sure if this helped at all but ironically the day before I was induced I made lactation cookies and was eating them like crazy, perhaps it helped with my supply? I definitely noticed once I was actively nursing that I did get an increase in milk when I added in the lactation cookies & smoothies to my diet!
