How important is it not to nurse to sleep? Maybe I'm just lazy but it's so much easier to get her to go down after nursing. I just hope I'm not making things harder in the long run...

I don't think it's a big deal right now but it might be a habit to break later. I think you'll know it's time to break it once she starts waking up every hour for a nipple. It's the same issue we worry about with the pacifier. I nurse to sleep at bedtime cause he's so sleepy by then there is no helping it and it's either that or a pacifier right now so I'd rather it be nursing. He gets a feeding and swallows less air so it better for us. Plus his reflux seems to have gone away so I'm able to lay him flat after eating which is really nice.
I want to try to get LO to nap in his bassinet (where he sleeps all night) instead of in my arms.
Today I set him down and he slept 30 min on his own. Tried to pat him and give pacifier to fall asleep again but no luck. He seemed happy so we got up. Ten min later he is screaming and clearly exhausted. It is a massive fight and takes a half hour to get him to sleep again (in my arms!)
Is this what everyone else does?
Sleep books are no help. They never give specific enough examples. Should I just let him stay in my arms? Keep fighting for bassinet and assume it will take a week of tears and exhaustion? Something else?

When intitially working on naps with Damien, he would cry and scream the moment I put him down in his crib for a nap. I rubbed his belly and tried to keep the pacifier in his mouth until he calmed down. He would eventually pass out but would wake up maybe 15 minutes later, crying again. I just repeated the process until he was down for the count...so to speak. Sometimes it took nearly an hour. It was rough for a week or so and I learned I needed to be very patient and persistent but he went down easier over time. He will still fight it a bit but now once he falls alseep, he is out for at least an hour, most of the time he naps for two hours. If he wakes up at the 30min or 45min mark, I check to see if he is hungry (sometimes he just wants a snack) and then start the naptime process. Most times he passes out again fairly quickly. These days he only fights for about 10min before passing out. He even passes out on his own periodically, which is nice. If he is calm when I lay him down, I leave the door open so he can see me whenever I pass by and once he is asleep, I close it.
Damien usually has three long naps during the day and I've loved it. For a little over a week now it's been impossible to get him to nap that way. If he goes down, it's only for 30-45mins. He miiiight have one long nap but that's it. He also isn't adding naps to replace the long ones. Still only doing three naps despite my best effort. I know I was just spoiled before but I can't figure out what has changed.

Is he grumpy or content when awake? If he's grumpy it could be an issue with sleep transitions like Preston has (but Preston is happy because...). He could just be ready for more wake time. Preston is awake for about 2 hours in between naps. His first nap of the day I normally encourage to be longer by rocking and pacifier but the others aren't very long at all and he perfectly happy.

He seems pretty happy and hasn't fussed much at all so it could be that he wants to be awake longer as you mentioned. For the past few days the late afternoon nap has been hisnlong one but today it doesn't look like that will be the case.

Yup sounds to me that he's ready to be awake more. It was a pretty sudden transition for us where he went from an hour and change to two hours and we've been that way for a while.

Fair enough! That makes me feel better. At the end of the day, as long as he is happy and rested, that's what counts.
The past few days Preston has started rolling in his sleep. We put him down on his back and sometimes a couple hours later he will fuss and I see he's rolled on his side. I think he gets gas at night and it's easier for him to pass it if he's on his side or tummy but he gets upset when he rolls cause he can't roll tummy to back very well yet. More than once DH goes in and finds him fully on his tummy but with one arm pinned under him and he's mad so he unpinned the arm gave him a pacifier and let him stay on his tummy and he'll be fine. I'm a little confused cause sometimes he totally fine on his tummy and will sleep for hours and sometimes he will fuss and not want to be there. Should I just start putting him down on his tummy to sleep so he gets more used to it should he roll at night? If I try and put him down on his tummy to sleep he will fuss and hold his head up unless I give him the pacifier and pat his back to chill him out but I figure since people used to put thier babies down this way it's really just a matter of baby getting used to it right?
Eta: I talked with DH and turns out he has always been rolling him back to his back and he just so happened to roll fully on his tummy again by the time I woke up. Everything i read online says to simply put baby back on their backs of they start to cry but is that because of the "back to sleep" SIDS thing or because that's what actually helps and gets then used to the motion of rolling tummy to back?
I am a FTM of a 10 week old son who has fought sleep since he was born. I'm lucky if he sleeps more than 4 hours at night. He usually falls asleep around 11 regardless of when I turn down the lights. He usually then wakes around 2 or 3 for his first feeding then every hour and a half to 2 hours thereafter for feedings. He has nursed to sleep since he was born as I have found no other way to get him to sleep. Any tips or tricks on how to get him to sleep longer at night?! He is EBF.
I have diligently kept days bright & noisy & night time dark & quiet. He spits out pacifiers. He screams in the bath so that doesn't calm him down. He kicks his way out of swaddles. He stares at lights but pitch black makes him cry. He will also only nap in my arms during the day. The second I stand up his eyes shoot open whether he's been asleep for 5 minutes or 20 minutes. I have a fan going & a low light in an area he can't see.
I want to desperately find something else that works as I am going back to work in a month & his dad & daycare workers will need to know how to get him to sleep. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!
I don't know what type of swaddle you are using, but we love the halo swaddle in the plushy dot fabric. We tried the cotton ones and they just didn't keep her in as well as the plushy dot one. I also play a rain sound YouTube video all night to drown out any noises that might wake her up (like my cat who wails at 3 am nightly). And probably the biggest thing for us was getting her reflux under control. She wanted to nurse constantly and couldn't stand lying on her back until she started meds. Also, I'm embarrassed to admit but for the longest time when she would make noises in her sleep I would turn on my lamp to check on her, thus waking her up...smh. Now I quietly peek into her bassinet and only interfere if her eyes are totally open.
This is so irritating. The last few nights Preston will nurse, fall asleep but as soon as I take him off he wakes up and has bad gas that keeps him awake for another half hour!! It only happens at night and his naps have been awesome lately in that he falls asleep right away. Wth?

I can't remember, are you giving him gripe water? I always give Damien a dosage before every feeding to keep the gas moving. It seems to help a lot. Even still, once I lay him down, he does wiggle around for about 10min before settling.

I haven't had to use the gripe water in a while but maybe I should tonight.

Could be worth a shot just to see if that helps.
Well o tried it and while he still woke up and fussed when I put him in the crib, we didn't have to pick him up and work the gas out. I wonder if this is a leap thing but now the only time we will be out down without waking is the MOTN feeds. He goes down fine for naps as long as he is in his crib and swaddled but we don't swaddle at night cause he rolls around. Could that be the issue or is this just a phase and I should just wait and see before I jump to change things?

Have you been putting him down at night unswaddled for long? If not, then maybe he is still adjusting. It could be the leap too. Maybe a bit of both!

He's never been swaddled at night.
Ooooh gotcha. Hmmmm, how was he the rest of the night? The same?

Well normally he goes down instantly in the middle of the night. Last night though we woke up very often.
Anyone else's baby rolling onto their side to sleep? My DD just discovered she can do this and I think it helps her with gas. She tends to get gassy at night and was lifting her legs up and thumping her feet down on the mattress while she was on her back. Now she just rolls on her side and goes back to sleep. She likes to put her feet on the side of the pack n play or crib. She tends to rotate during the night and was even rotated 180 degrees yesterday morning. She's such a little mover! She hasn't rolled from back to tummy yet, but has rolled from her tummy during tummy time to her back. Also, she usually sleeps through the night now and only occasionally wakes up to eat, maybe once a night once or twice a week. I'm worried about her rolling onto her tummy and not being able to roll back. We haven't swaddled her since early on when she pushed the swaddlme over her face. She seems perfectly content without the swaddle. I guess I don't really have a question other than just looking to see if anyone else is dealing with a rolling baby and if I should be worried about it.
Damien is quite the mover as well! I always know he will migrate in some way, shape, or form during the night. He also lifts his legs and slams them down during the night as well. I've read a variety of explanations (self-soothing method, helps them fall asleep, it's a new/fun activity, trying to relieve gas, etc.) but it seems to be a general consensus that it eventully passes. He doesn't roll during the night yet though, he seems pretty content on his back. When he was swaddled, he would roll to his side a lot but that stopped when we quit swaddling. He's been unswaddled since early on like your LO. I don't have anything to contribute for the rolling, he hasn't started doing that yet.

I posted recently about how he started to roll. He likes being on his left side and I also thinks it helps with gas. We put a rolled towel under the sheet so he won't go all the way to his tummy cause that woke him up a couple times.

Mine does all of the above as well. Just rolled over for the first time from back to tummy yesterday. I lay him on his back every night and he will scrunch to his side, but generally when I check on him later he has relaxed and is on his back...I don't generally un-scrunch him as long as he can breath. He hasn't been fully swaddled (e.g. with his arms in) since he was about 5 weeks old. So he has been a little more mobile. (knock on wood) He has been sleeping great and even seems to be soothing himself back to sleep...he will get squirmy, but if I give him a minute or so he will settle back down and fall asleep...it has been amazing!!

That's great! My DD has started to get better at self soothing and falling back asleep on her own now that she can roll to her side. Even just this morning she was fussing in her bouncer so I put her in her play gym, she rolled onto her side and fell asleep.
Does anyone else's LO need a blanket to soothe themselves back to sleep? Our LO mashes it against her face and head and looks like she is burying her face with it. It's a breathable blanket but I'm scared to leave her with it so I wait until she falls asleep and take it away. But having to hover kind of takes the ease out of her self soothing...

My son does the same think. He has an elephant lovey that we give him otherwise I usually give him a burp cloth. He also bunches it up by his face and falls asleep. He likes to scrunch it in his fingers and we are doing this to try and prevent him from pulling his hair
Does anyone use the baby Einstein sea soother for naps? I remember people saying they use it during tummy time. Putting Sam down for naps is always a bit challenging. No matter how hard I try, there are usually tears. I looked at the sea soother yesterday and showed it to Sam. He seemed pretty interested in it, but I'm hesitant to spend $45 if it's not something that works consistently. I know all babies are different, but I wanted to get your opinions

I think it's really made for sleeping time, doesn't it attach to the crib?. I haven't tried mine for anything except tummy time because we don't have a crib yet, but my cousin who gave it to me swore by it for getting the baby off to sleep, hers loved it.

We have one and we prop it up in his pack n play for his naps. I LOVE it. We turn on the aquarium and the sound (you can choose to just do one) and it automatically gets softer and quieter which coincides when my son falls asleep. It stays on for a good amount of time. We've already replaced the batteries because we use it daily. We haven't put it in his crib but it has a strap to hook it up. My son likes to look at it wen he's awake so it's good for tummy time.
I bought mine at buy buy baby and used the 20% off coupon so that helped with the price (I was surprised how expensive it was). So if you live somewhere with buy buy baby then go there!
Ugh the past few days have been insane. I can never know what he's gonna do. The other day we put him to sleep and he woke 5 min later screaming his head off and it took and hour and a half to get him back down, last night he went down right away and slept 6 hours with no fuss. Tonight he fell asleep right away but woke screaming and is now wide awake and is a smiles and just wants to stare at me. DH is trying to rock him now but idk if it will work. I wonder if this is gas or a leap week thing. Either way it sucks.

I'm sorry that does suck! Charlotte has been a horrible napper lately and I know if she gives me a smile I'm doomed! It gets better we just have to get there! I'm sending some good vibes your way and hopefully you can get some sleep tonight.

Yeah no sleep last night. He woke ever 1.5-3 hours grunting and uncomfortable. I caved at 4am and just brought him to sleep on me so the gas would pass. So I got no sleep bit at least he did
I need HELP! Jack needs a swaddle to keep his arms down while he sleeps, he still scares himself awake.. the problem is he is too fat/long for a regular SwaddleMe swaddle.. Any suggestions on what I can do to keep his arms down? He isn't rolling over yet and sleeps in a rock n play so thats not an issue yet.. thanks!!

What about using a swaddle blanket? Aden & Anais ones are super large so you could easily swaddle him in one.
We have a few of those but I can't ever seem to get them tight enough, he breaks out in a matter of seconds!
Try a double swaddle. That's the secret to a really tight one. Use light blankets to avoid over heating, then swaddle to keep everything in and use another one to lock him up. That's what the nurses do at the hospital.

Try this: https://pin.it/lM3r8sP But use a small blanket and then an Aden & Anais swaddle
Re: Baby Sleep Questions
Today I set him down and he slept 30 min on his own. Tried to pat him and give pacifier to fall asleep again but no luck. He seemed happy so we got up. Ten min later he is screaming and clearly exhausted. It is a massive fight and takes a half hour to get him to sleep again (in my arms!)
Is this what everyone else does?
Sleep books are no help. They never give specific enough examples. Should I just let him stay in my arms? Keep fighting for bassinet and assume it will take a week of tears and exhaustion? Something else?
Is he grumpy or content when awake? If he's grumpy it could be an issue with sleep transitions like Preston has (but Preston is happy because...). He could just be ready for more wake time. Preston is awake for about 2 hours in between naps. His first nap of the day I normally encourage to be longer by rocking and pacifier but the others aren't very long at all and he perfectly happy.
He's never been swaddled at night.
Well normally he goes down instantly in the middle of the night. Last night though we woke up very often.
I bought mine at buy buy baby and used the 20% off coupon so that helped with the price (I was surprised how expensive it was). So if you live somewhere with buy buy baby then go there!
