@AnnaS930 Thanks for asking! Fin's circ went just fine. He's a trooper that little dude. Unfortunately his jaundice levels are up again so he has to have photo light therapy. They don't let you take him out of his incubator for longer than 30 minutes (feeds) when receiving that therapy so I'm just here staring at him until it's time for him to eat again Can't wait until I get to hold him indefinitely! I'm actually looking forward to late night wakes where I can just hold him. Sure beats pumping and staring at my phone at 3am...
@PoodleDoodleOoo - Yes, hard with holidays right around the corner, and for us up in Maine, we have to start ordering oil again soon and never know what the cost will be and how cold of a winter. Blah.
@Sbrown721 - He's a very routined little dude, it will be good for him for sure. I'd love to have those $225/week back during that time, but totally worth the cost.
@mom2adoodle - Atta boy!! Trooper indeed. I can't imagine how hard it is to not be able to hold your baby any time you want, but it sounds like that time is coming. Just keep swimming, mama!
Sorry to hear of all our momma's that have to worry about not bringing in the same income during maternity leave. I didn't bring home income during my last leave and it was a stressor. It really makes me wish maternity leave was set up better in this country - you shouldn't need to worry about finances on top of all the post partum craziness. Glad to hear you have savings to dip into @AnnaS930 if need be. I'm the same way and I hate touching our savings account but have to remind myself that situations like these is why we have it.
I hear you ladies on the income-less leave and Christmas shopping. I hate that we have to dig into our savings, but very thankful we have savings to dip into. Get your sh!t together USA, paid family leave is essential.
@AnnaS930 - I feel you on the missing money. DH can cover us for the most part and I have saved quite a bit on the side for just this, but I only have 1 week PTO and no STD. It's crazy to think we will be out over 10k!!
@AnnaS930 I had originally planned to keep DD1 out of daycare and home with me, just to prevent RSV and stuff, plus to have the time with her. But the more I think about it, the more I think ill habe her out for a week and then take her like 3 days a week to keep a halfway routine. Because if she stays hkme with me for 10 weeks, she will be a pain to get back into the routine. Is this what you're doing?

Yes! Right now Emmett goes 4 days a week, he's home with me on my days off, Wednesdays and weekends. We will keep him home for about a week following the birth, depending on what day that falls on, but after that he will be going back. They have quite a daily routine in his toddler room of morning meeting, breakfast, lunch, nap, snack, etc... so we'll get him back into his full routine of 8-4ish, maybe do pick ups a little earlier to get more time together in the afternoon/evening, some will depend on husband's work schedule so I don't have to bring baby during a nap, etc.
I am torn between feeling guilty about sending him to daycare and feeling like baby #2 deserves some undivided time like E got when he was born. Overall I think the 3-4 days/week schedule will be a good balance for everyone.
Same here on losing money @annas930. I'm planning to take 3-4mo off and it's all unpaid. We have savings to cover it, but I wish I wouldn't see that money being sucked back out since I'm used to seeing our current balance now! We'll keep both kids in daycare, which was a huge decision, but I'm glad we can maintain their routine and I can have 1:1 time with the baby.
It's nice to see others commiserating on the decreased income, though I wish none of us were having to experience that. I think my biggest fear is that the savings has always built back up, we try to put $1000 into a savings account every month... Our daycare runs about $1000 per kid per month, so that will eat up everything I've been putting into savings. We will work it out, rework the budget, save a smaller amount, I just really like seeing my savings account go up.. but perhaps for these years until the kids get a bit older we just have to adjust our goals/expectations.
@reesaXden Hope everything is going well! I've really enjoyed your updates!
My randoms: Ugh, it's only Tuesday and not even lunch time. I have 7 weeks left at work and I cannot get myself in gear. Working while pregnant without my meds has not been awesome. Over the weekend we took a "Childbirth Express" class, it was ok, I knew most of the info. The instructor just rubbed me the wrong way. One person got the wrong can from the vending machine during break and offered it to anyone who wants it. Well it was a Diet Coke and the instructor says "Well not to our pregnant ladies", like dude no, diet is fine or at least is a personal choice. She then talked about the 'chemicals' in junk food, all while pushing the grocery store bout cookies every two minutes. Stop the fear mongering!!!!

I didn't like the nurse, Lisa, who led my birthing class that I took last time, and it was a 4 week class. Near the end of it, she was explaining that nurses can kick out family discreetly if you really don't want them in the room. I asked very kindly "what if it's a particular nurse we don't want in the room?" then in a joking tone I said "What if I'm all like do NOT let Lisa in this room to the other nurses, does that work?" she thought it was hilarious.. my husband's eyes nearly bulged out of his head as he shot me a death stare. He knows me too well to know it was not a joke.
@jhems776 I hate that so much. When someone offers a Dr Pepper and I'm about to dive on it and someone says, "not for pregnant ladies!" Eff you, I will drink my daily dp and you can kiss my ass.

@Steephers123 she was nowhere to be found on the Labor floor the weekend I gave birth. Either she was off, or she got the message. Win!
Let me just say that she felt the need to act out a lot of labor and gave us examples of noises she made that helped her through it, etc. I don't care if women make guttural noises during labor, I'm sure I let out some cow-like moans.. but those noises just naturally come out of you, no need to demonstrate them. It all made me VERY uncomfortable. Poor Anna, not poor Lisa
Speaking of birth classes. We had a relatively young couple in our class and when we were talking about the possibility of an episiotomy, a dude asked "can they put in an extra stitch to make the vagina tighter?" DH busted out laughing - assuming it a joke - but then he was like "but, no, really can they do that?!"
Daycare is ridiculously expensive around here. Once #3 goes in, it's going to be $836/wk, which is after the 20% employer discount DH gets. I really want to move them to the center that's like a mile from our house, but it's $1,000 MORE per month for all 3, which doesn't seem worth it.
I assumed we'd be back to saving a ton once we're done with daycare, but forgot that we need to pay for before/after school care and summer care for a few years. Boo!
@fireflygirl12 - I miss the days when mature 7 year olds were allowed to stay home after school for an hour or two without supervision. Sadly that would likely result in a CPS visit in some communities these days!
@PoodleDoodleOoo WHAT? I mean, yes they can and many OBs will, but I can't imagine someone actually asking that in front of a class and his wife/gf/whatever! I would be mortified and furious if that happened to me.
I need all the happy positive thoughts y'all can spare today. A Week ago I applied for an adult job where I can actually use my theatre degree AND make money. It's at my friend's company. They just hired another friend as a front desk/admin person but it took them three months from submitting an application to offering the position. I assumed that's how it would go with me. This past Friday I received an email asking for a range of dates and times that would work for a phone interview, i emailed them back yesterday morning and they scheduled my interview for this afternoon!! Im not sure if this means they really like me or they are really desperate for people. Either way I'm freaking out. With less than 5 weeks to go, there is no way I'm moving to a different city, starting a new job, find a new ob and pick a new hospital. My plan was to tell them that I couldn't start until early November but now I'm worried that that date might be too far from now for them
@Marikkita12 - good luck! You never know - they might be more focused on getting the right person for the job over getting someone in there quickly! I know for our organization we've held jobs for a longer length of time because we was incredibly important that we had the right person for the job and the right person happened to need more time.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom DS1 was born vaginally with the cord wrapped around his neck twice and all the way around his body....he did a bit of a back and forth dance in the birth canal and they had me change positions a few times, but otherwise came out ok!
@marikkita12 I would get through the interview and then discuss start date if they offer you the position. I've known companies who don't mind waiting a few months if they feel like they have the right candidate.
Add me to the how are we going to survive this leave financially club. I'm taking a half year off so losing half my salary is a pretty big hit. I don't have any time saved up due to DS1'S illness last year. I could have taken less time off but for my own sanity and with the nature of my job I need that half a year so they have a better person in my position while I'm out. At least my husband has a better paying job this time around??? Ahhh this next year financially is going to suck.
Ugh. I spent the morning in the ER. DS hit his head against a bookshelf at daycare this morning and now he has 6 stitches. He is a resilient little guy and was full of smiles minutes after the incident. He didn't like being held down while the put in the stitches, but he bounced back from that trauma really quickly. He is now napping after a very eventful morning.
I am not too worried about the lost income during maternity leave - we have been putting money in savings for a long time now and can make it work. What has me more nervous is the increased daycare expenses when I go back to work. Our budget is going to be tight and it will be tough to save money.
Ditto on the financial woes. I'm the higher earner at our house, and the only one paying attention to finances. This leave is all unpaid, which is new. With 1st kid, all but a week was covered between work (different employer) mat leave and saved leave. The savings we're going to consume this time is... A lot. I get really grouchy when I crunch the numbers. And do things like freak out at H for forgetting to use the 5$ coupon that I sent with him to Home Depot. Like that matters. Sigh.
My random for the day. My mom brought me pulled pork from dinosaur barbecue. (Anyone not from New York you do NOT know what you are missing ) I'm in heaven.
@abberson - I am the high earner as well, which is why this stresses me out a bit. I also keep the budget and just have a much better grasp on where we are at than husband. I like being in control but am jealous of his ignorance sometimes.
@marajay6 - yes, the daycare cost for 2 is my real concern. We have the savings for maternity leave if needed, it's just building it back up and continuing to save will be quite difficult and not on the projection we've been on by any means.
Good luck @marikkita12 ! I hope you get the job AND they can accommodate your timing.
Had my BPP today (no cupcakes though ) and they did a growth scan.. Baby is measuring more or less 5lbs9oz at 34.5 weeks however, my doctor won't let me go on my mini vacay this weekend which is a BUMMER. My dad is swimming from NB to PEI (15kms) and I was really hoping to be able to cheer him on. BOO.
@MojieJo I think Avery and Logan are a sweet sibset. Hopefully your mom comes around!

You're my hero! I have to leave in 15 minutes and didn't know how I'd handle 2 hour disconnected from the bump without knowing about Baby Girl! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Great job, mama!!!! She's here! She's here!!
