August IUI

Hi Everyone,

i pretty new to the bump and haven't started a board but I dont see an IUI for August started so figured I would get the ball rolling as I'm in mid cycle, and will hopefully have my IUI this week!!!

I'm a bit terrified putting this down as last cycle I was all set to go and had a cancelled IUI since my OH had an emergency.  Since then we now have a sample frozen so we don't have to miss another cycle but I'm pretty nervous.

i still don't know all the abbreviations so if anyone else wants to chime on in please feel free.

TTC: about a year and a half
4th round of clomid
TI for 3 resulting in bfn
IUI for 1 resulting in bfn
technically we have unexplained infertility  besides being old, apparently 40 is not the new 30  and I do have low AMH which does not help the cause.

trigger tomorrow night and hoping IUI Tuesday and Wednesday.  Going to try and get to acupuncture and see if that can help.  It's hard to make it with my schedule but I'm trying!!!

any other helpful hints as I try to prepare myself is appreciated....and how does everyone stay positive?? I'm praying this is it but a bit disappointed as I only have one mature follie ready to go.  I kno it only takes one but was hoping at least for one more to have Had better odds. Hopefully this will be my magical bean

@Hopeful_mom thanks for starting this thread. FX for you that this is your month!

I had my day 3 u/s and bloodwork today and was given the ok to start Letrozole on Wednesday night.  

We've been TTC for 15 months.  This is our first medicated cycle.
Diagnosis is PCOS with insulin resistance but I do ovulate every month.  Starting metformin tonight...not too excited about that because when my sister took it, she got super sick.

IUI will be sometime next week or the week after.  I'm hoping sooner rather than later because I'm a teacher and the first day of school is in 2 weeks.  I really can't take the morning off those first few days for an IUI.

@madasm0530 best of luck to u!!  Age is one your side so thats a plus right there!!  We're really on the same schedule this is great.  Will you trigger tonight or first tomorrow?  I will trigger later tonight, I'm going to try and get some acupuncture, its been over 2weeks since i went BUT maybe it will help...its really not my fav but anything to help the process right!  I'm going to double down and due 2 IUIs this cycle...hopefully...have to pray nothing goes wrong in the next few days like last month.  I will have to start looking into ivf if this doesn't work.  Are you doing anything different?

@Katkirch glad you're off to a great side and hopefully you'll get some nice mature follies!!  I'm glad your IUI will be later so i can worry about you and get through the 2ww faster  Try to relax and don't worry about taking time off or anything like that.  I find all these places that do this start SUPER EARLY to get things moving AND they do the weekend.  Usually after your u/s you might have a day of wingle room before you trigger and can do it on the weekend.  I was at the dr on july 4th and this sunday the one day i couldve gotten a lil sleep u kno.  concentrate on your body doing its thing and the rest will figure it out!!

Here we go again! I've been ttc for a little over a year now. 2nd medicated cycle and 2nd IUI. First IUI was in July with Clomid. We are changing to femara this cycle since Clomid thinned my lining too much. Doing ovidrel trigger and progesterone as well. Tomorrow is day 3 baseline ultrasound and bloodwork. Hopefully all goes well and I can start on the femara tomorrow night.

@kristynelson13 i know its not fun BUT we have hope that our moment is coming!!  Hoping your u/s goes smoothly and you'll be able to start.

My first time going for u/s I had left over uterine lining and couldn't start that cycle, i balled at work and was so upset!!  I think the nurse on the phone didn't know what to make of it.  I laugh now but i was so upset and i forced the cycle and kept going back till i could try and it was a mess anyway.

Hi everyone!

I've been TTC for 2.5 yrs, our diagnosis is unexplained infertility.  We have done 4 cycles with clomid & IUI without success.  This month, I am doing my 5th round of clomid, ovidrel trigger, and IUI.  I am on day 3 of clomid today, planning for ultrasound this weekend.  

@Hopeful_mom thanks for starting the thread!  Good luck to you over the coming days.  Fingers crossed and sending positive vibes.

So, I guess I get to post here now! We are doing our first IUI cycle this month. I just finish my 3rd month on progesterone only. Obviously, it is not working so we are stepping it up. I am stopping progesterone tonight so I should start a new cycle in the next three day. Then I have to go in on cd 2-3 for bloodwork and u/s. The nurse said they might put me on Clomid but that would all be discussed at the appointment. At this point I still feel a little in the dark with the whole process.

So glad to see this thread and "meet" all of you! This is also our 1st medicated cycle and I'm so nervous. I'm on day 3 of Femera and go in on the 8th for the us. We are also doing Ovidrel trigger followed with Progesterone after IUI. I've got PCOS and don't often ovulate on my own. I'm also doing acupuncture and going to try essential oils. I'll try anything!!!! I'll eat the pineapple core, hang upside down, whatever it takes lol. Trying to remain calm and today my mood is optimistic and great!!! FX to all of you! Looking forward to a short stay in this boat for all of us!!!

@jwg9101 I like ur attitude and hope ur right!!! I made it to acupuncture tonight in hopes it will help, it's really not my fav and it's super expensive but anything to help the cause!!! Let me kno how hanging upside down goes

@lady_grey thanks for the support!! Trying hard to stay positive but it is tough! I didn't realize how similar our roads are, how much Clomid are u taking.  Mine was up'd to 150 and I still can't shake this headache!  Wishing u many mature follies at ur follow up u/s.  

@Ttcnumber2withhypo sorry u find yourself her but hopefully it will be a quick and painless road for you.  It's not an easy road but talk to ur dr and write ur questions down so u don't forget.  And we're all here for each other so ask away...someone is sure to have gone through it or have some helpful advice for u. 

I know it's silly but I'm actually nervous for tomorrow.  Just praying it will all go smoothly!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the IF forum
I'm 30 DH is 32, we've been TTC for 14 months (currently on cycle 16)
DX: Unexplained infertility but possibly MFI as DH has high sperm DNA fragmentation

We are starting our first IUI next cycle, which starts Aug 17thish, so I'm guessing my IUI will be at the very end of Aug (maybe 29 or 30th?) I'll find out more when I call on the 17th to get my meds.
I'll be on Femara (there was discussion of possibly doing a lower dose like 2.5mg to start) with ovidrel trigger. 

I'm so glad we're finally taking a step toward getting treatment, but I'm so worried IUIs won't work for us due to the DNA frag results. Hoping to get more info from my doctor when I'm in for our procedure.

I'll be cheering for you all this month!!!

@Hopeful_mom  Excited for your IUI today!  I don't think it's silly at all to be nervous. Also glad to hear that you could fit acupuncture into your schedule. Let us know how it goes today.

@kristynelson13  Hope your u/s and bloodwork go well today and that you're able to start femara.  Let us know how it turns out.

@lady_grey  Hoping for some mature follies for you this week and that this month is it for you!

@Ttcnumber2withhypo  Sorry to hear that the progesterone alone didn't work.  I also recommend writing down questions for your appointment.  I often feel annoying b/c I ask so many questions but all of the nurses have been so helpful and patient.  I hope that you are able to get all the answers you need!

@jwg9101 Your post made me smile because I feel exactly the same way.  Almost anything is worth it, if it works in the end, right?  This is our first medicated cycle so I understand being nervous.  I am too!

@ReesaAnne16 Welcome to the forum! I'm new as well but I stalked the July IUI board and it is a great community! Hoping that the IUI works for you even with the possible MFI.

Love being able to be a part of this community with you ladies.  It often feels like no one that we talk to understands so it's been really encouraging to talk to people who get it.

 I feel like i'm having cramping that i didn't have as much as the first time, does anyone know how long it lasts for?

The big thing that is concerning me the most is how LOW my OH sperm count was.  

First IUI we had 67.5 million count, motile was 99, total motile was 26.8 
(i thought those were good and they were happy with those numbers as well.)

Today IUI
12.9 million count, motile was 43, total motile was 2.2

I'm just shocked at how low it dropped and its 24 hrs from one tme of dtd to the sample he gave. Yes we're stressed but i can't believe it caused that many issues.  They said its not exactly where they would like it to be but still good enough.  I know I only need one BUT those numbers are really upsetting.  Trying to stay positive as I can....with going to acupuncture after the IUI i literally first got to work at almost 1pm.  This is all so time consuming and it kind of hurt too...doing another tomorrow.  I didn't tell my OH i don't want to upset him and really hope that tomorrow will have a better outcome.  Has anyone gotten a positive with these type of numbers.  Maybe its my fault as we dtd mon morning just in case.  It was a few days so they said to make sure it was fresher...if that makes sense...now i'm just concerned.

madasm0530 you're first triggering tomorrow night did they tell you when you should and should not have sex?  just trying to see if i missed something today, i thought i asked the nurse but its possible i forgot whatever she said...i feel like it was all a blur at this point.

Joining this board after having to sit July out due to thyroid issues. My thyroid is doing better now so the plan is to go ahead with IUI#3 this month. We're going to give Femara a try since Clomid thinned my lining too much. Hoping for a lot less side effects Currently waiting for AF to show so I can schedule u/s & b/w.

My husband and I had an IVF consult last month and are leaning that way if a 3rd IUI doesn't work out. At my RE's request I'm having some appointments & testing this month with a hemotologist & neurologist since I had a stroke several years back (only explanation they could come to was that I was on birth control). Crossing my fingers that doesn't make things even more complicated! My RE seems to think I'll be fine to do IVF though and is just taking extra precautions.

Will be starting to Femara tonight & Ultrasound is scheduled for next Wednesday 8/10.

@Hopeful_mom. I was wrong the other day; I'm triggering tonight - IUI on Thursday. Last night was my last night of Follistim. 

I suppose this is a good question for here -- RE Nurse said to have intercourse 8/1 or 8/2 if we did not have it the day before; 7/31. We did have intercourse 7/31 so I'm not sure if we should again tonight before IUI on Thursday. Thoughts?

@madasm0530 I was told by RE to BD the night of the trigger shot & then abstain until the IUI. And then BD again the night of the IUI

So started spotting tonight so I will probably start af tomorrow. That means my bloodwork and u/s will be Thursday or Friday. I am excited and scared all at the same time!

@madasm0530 sorry I missed ur post yesterday, if u DTD last night that was fine too.  I think they usually like u to have at least 24/48 hours to abstain from sex....why I thought have sex in the AM of the trigger screwed up my OH numbers for the next day even though it was 24hrs.  You feel like u want something to be up there so u don't miss it. 

Do do you know the size of our follie, how many do u have?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the IF board.
I'm am  30  and DH is 33. We started TTC in October 2013.
DX: Mild MFI.

We are doing our second IUI this month. I am currently on CD 5. Started gonal-f last night. They started me on a higher dose this time around so I'm hoping my follicles will develop a little faster. We spent a small fortune last month on gonal-f refills. I also will trigger and take progesterone after this month. (Same protocol as last month.)

Last month they didn't do any ultrasound or blood work the day before the IUI and according to my temps I didn't ovulate until 2 days after. I talked to the nurse about it and she said that temperatures don't mean anything....what? And that the trigger shot guarantees ovulation. I disagree with both statements, but I don't have a medical degree. This time I am insisting on some sort of testing before the IUI to make sure I'm actually getting ready to ovulate.

DH and I had a HUGE fight on Thursday evening after getting the 'It's a BFN' call. And this will be our last medically assisted attempt at getting KU. After everything is said and done, our first IUI was over $5000 and we just can't continue to pay that out every month. He also is against IVF, he has it in his head that it is unnatural. BUT he did agree to start looking into adoption, which is a big step forward for him.

@Plainjanie  Good luck to you this month, I'm sorry that IF treatment has been hard on your relationship, it really is a difficult thing for couples to go through, and we all have different coping mechanisms for dealing with the disappointment each month. Here's hoping round 2 is successful for you!

Oh man! I'm so glad to be here and hear each of your stories. I don't feel so alone! Good luck to all of you!!!! 

So far, things are going my way. Today is the last day of Femara and I go for my us on Monday. I had acupuncture today and will go again on Monday after the us. My acupuncture place is also starting a fertility yoga class so I'm looking forward to that. Anything to keep me calm and in a good mood. 

Has as anyone else noticed acne with these hormones? My face is breaking out in a few large, painful pimples that I've never had. I also have a scaly patch around my chin. It's the weirdest thing! 

@plainjane my heart went out to you. I'm so sorry this is tough on you guys and that you had a fight. That's my biggest fear - the stress causing problems in our marriage. I need to find ways to keep us connected through this process, hopefully you will too!!!

hello ladies!!!

i'm happy to say 2nd IUI went really well, nurse said it was textbook, so here is praying it is!! OH sperm count was still not great BUT the motility was up to 85 which is great!!  SO technically between both IUI i've got about 4.5million to get the job done.  It concerns me with the previous IUI i had previously 27million with 99 motility and it didn't take so that is what makes me sad and concerned.  BUT I did go to acupuncture and I'm getting pregnant this month   Really praying my sticky bean is on the way Just relived to have gotten through both IUIs successfully!

@plainjanie welcome and best of luck to u this month.  So sorry your having such a difficult time, its not easy AND truly tests relationships for sure.  This process is extremely expensive its hard to keep living normally when you are trying to save up constantly!  I know IVF isn't for everybody but I might have to go down that road.  My OH is very open to adoption but he also has other children - I'm the one that a lil more stuck on it right now.  I must say that Im with you on testing prior to the IUI, and no one has really given me a reason as to why they dont.  They say that the trigger shot forces you to release and ovulate...I also wonder if the IUI was the right day etc.  Its frustrating, you'll have to keep us posted on how it goes.

Okay, so first IUI u/s and blood work is scheduled for Friday. I am so excited but so, so nervous. I am worried it won't work and that will be that. 

I am curious, has anyone heard of a lot of IUI being successful on the first try?

Hello, I'm new too. ☺️  I introduced myself and only got 1 reply. 

I I was on Femara and the first round my body didn't respond, took Femara a second round at a higher dose and finally got 1 good follicle. We go in for insemination tomorrow. This is our first iui and in so nervous and so excited. Really want this to work. I have pcos.

@jah87 sorry if i missed you - all of my posts are really for everyone!!  Congrats on getting that mature follie and ur ready to go thats awesome news!! @ttcnumber2withhypo excited to have buddies on our 2ww.  This was my 2nd IUI and my first IUI did not work BUT that doesn't mean a thing.  Everyone is different and theres no reason that it shouldn't work.  Sending you both lots of baby dust and good luck!!! 

Looks like 3 of you are all IUI buddies tomorrow @madame0530 wishing all your mature follies are captured by that magical sperm!!  Good luck to your OH too!!  I'm really surprised how in just a few weeks the count could change so drastically so make sure everyone stays calm!!  good luck!!

@madasm0530 u wanna laugh they tell u to take a test urself 2weeks so mine would be 8/17 BUT they don't even schedule a beta unless there's a chance.  Unfortunately for me AF shows up like clock work, even spot ahead of schedule just to let me kno.  Really hoping she stays away.  How was your OH numbers? So glad things went smoothly for u!! Are u having any cramping at all?

Evening, ladies! I'll go ahead and introduce myself seeing as how I got the dreaded BFN today after our first IUI on July 23. Assuming CD 1 is tomorrow or Saturday, I expect #2 to be scheduled for sometime between August 18-20.  

We are TTC #1. Have had five losses since 2013 and since we started working with an RE in December, we've found ourselves designated as being in the IF camp, in addition to the RPL. Conception didn't use to be a problem, but it is now! DH has had low counts and low motility and I've got DOR and low AMH. Fun stuff. 

Hope you all are doing well! This IF shit is for the birds, but here we are. To those already in the TWW, I'm rooting for you!!

Hello and good luck to all of you who have already had your IUIs this month!

I just started 50mg Clomid this week for my first treatment cycle. I have a CD 12 ultrasound on Monday. Last month I didn't ovulate til CD 17 (testing cycle with 100 mg Clomid). So if I had to guess ill probably have a follow up ultrasound later next week, get the trigger and maybe IUI late that week or early the week after? 

Curious how many of you ladies are getting a trigger, and do you "test out" the trigger afterwards?

Hi ladies.  Looks like I'll be joining you after my BFN today.  DH and I have been TTC No. 1 for close to 2 years now and this will be our 3rd IUI cycle.  I'm stopping progesterone tonight so AF should show up sometime in the next week.  FX that we don't have any cysts from this past cycle.

GL to all you ladies who have already started your cycles and/or had your IUI's already! FX for you!

Hi all! I'll also go ahead and introduce myself since I've been posting on the Trouble TTC board but want to join here, too. I see a bunch of others over here, too. Hi!

We're wrapping up our 13th cycle this week. It looks like DH has low motility, but my tests came back normal, which is some relief. We just got approval to start IUI + Clomid on my next cycle. Possibly ovidrel if necessary. I'm thinking the procedure will probably be around the 18th-20th.
