  • My Weight Watcher leader has what he calls a 321 mug cake.  Just three tablespoons of cake mix, two tablespoons of water, and one minute in the microwave.  Easy and works for me. ;)
  • Loading the player...
  • I keep reading articles about kids dying in hot cars...then I panic about my kid. DH and I carpool so we are both there for drop off and it takes forever...I KNOW we drop her off...then I read an article and freak out! Ugh.

  • We are doing a cupcake with the center having the colored frosting. We are doing it at L's 1st Birthday Party. No a special party, as that is a pain with us living 3ish hrs away.
I was going to do it in his smash cake, but H's grandma is making that and no one but us gets to know before hand. So there will be a sex giant cup cake.
"Sex giant cup cake" sounds like a...punk band? Porn title? Something fun :)
  • Thanks for all the feedback re:phone/wallet combo issue!! I've decided to give this a try - we'll see how it does. I can (should) be able to put my phone in it, user it as a clutch when I don't need a purse and toss it in a purse or diaper bag when I do. Fingers crossed!

@jennbaylor12 that's what I have right now. It's black and I bought it at Walmart and it fits my phone (I have the big iphone). I have stopped carrying a purse altogether. My car is my purse, lol. I park my car in the garage and so I just never take it out of the car either. When I am with my husband, I don't have to carry it at all, just leave it in the glove compartment. I'm savoring these last months not having to lug around a diaper bag by carrying nothing but my phone. Oftentimes I even let my husband put that in his pocket. :)

This one is mine! I'd been eying it since last summer and bought it as soon as I decided the pregnancy was real:

(It's the Storq Carryall) And ETA: it comes with backpack straps too.

  • @DiFazette I get both the numbness/tingling and the pain from carpel tunnel. Totally normal. I typically get the numbness at night and if I overdo things during the day I get the pain. By overdo things I mean like do my job and type for a few hours :(

  • Writing you a novel:

So let's try to condense a long story... A few years ago I went to the doctor because I was having a difficult time getting pregnant. I got stuck with a nurse practitioner who took my blood and just started crazily writing prescriptions. She put me on metformin and levothyroxine- neither of which I was 100% sure I needed. I never saw a real doctor, just her. She also spent a copious amount of time telling me about how her gastric bypass surgery changed her life. She was awful.

Those medications made me really sick, I started having crazy panic attacks but I pushed through the side effects thinking they might normalize things and get me pregnant. They didn't. Eventually, I couldn't take the panic attacks and the side effects and I came off everything. Felt amazing. Joined Weight Watchers, lost 95lbs, felt even more amazing. Then at the end of 2015 I plateaued and couldn't seem to get my weight loss to keep going. I kept counting points, tried Whole30 made it almost to Whole60, made sure I was exercising daily, then I switched to eating vegan and still didn't really lose anything. I gave up caffeine and my melatonin kick. Husband went vegan with me, and he lost weight (of course). Suddenly in March, I was pregnant.

Now, I don't have any symptoms I'm concerned with minus my old fatigue/low energy which is a little stronger now that I'm pregnant but none of the others. I don't take any medications, when my blood was drawn in the beginning of my pregnancy everything was completely normal. I am a little concerned about my thyroid now because of the complications that would arise from an underperforming thyroid. I've just been told to stay off Google, that everything's fine, and to not be concerned because if I was having thyroid issues I'd know it. My beef with that is that I have never had any thyroid symptoms that I know of, ever (minus being low energy). But back then it was still under performing (allegedly) and I was on medication. IF that nurse practitioner wasn't just insane and prescription pad happy, of course. The not knowing is frustrating. Talking to my OB nurse, I was essentially told to go to my general doctor if I really wanted my thyroid checked and pay my copay. Since all of these conversations have been with nurses on the phone, I'm going to bring it up again with the doctor when I see them on Aug 17th.

Am I concerned for nothing? I really hope so, because I can't seem to get my OB office on board for checking something out. The nurse said that things would raise normal flags anyway when they checked it now because I am pregnant and that makes things shift around. Is she right? Should I just get off the Google and let it go?

  • @caseyewhitaker Can you get the records from the Rx happy nurse forwarded to your OB? That would give your doc time to get caught up on what has happened, and give a clue as to why you are concerned.
I don't think you are stressing over nothing, but I do recommend staying off of Google. Google is a rabbit hole that rarely leads to anything comforting or reliable. I looked up something last night, and apparently I have skin cancer in my vag. Definitely not something you want to scare yourself further with.

  • @caseyewhitaker  I would definitely get your records from that nurse practitioner and go ahead and get your thyroid rechecked with your GP if you can, just to be safe.  I'm hypo from before pregnancy and all my levels were great in the beginning, but they TANKED by mid pregnancy when I got them rechecked so it's very possible that you are having issues.  I do agree with staying off google, but as long as you stay on top of your thyroid levels everything should be fine.

Edited to add: When my levels were super low I didn't have any symptoms other than ones that could easily be chalked up to pregnancy so don't take the lack of symptoms as anything.

@DiFazette I'm doing well! Since we're in DH's hometown, everyone wants to see us and it's been a bit busy. Staying with my FIL and Step-MIL has been great since they are so relaxed and kind. Baby shower on Saturday! We'll leave on Sunday.

I hope you're doing great too!

Maybe everyone already knows this except for me, but if you're planning on going to the dentist before baby- apparently 2nd tri is the time to do it! I went today for a cleaning and the hygienist said it's the best time because 3rd tri can be pretty miserable laying on your back for all that time....

  • @Toller02 That's something I'd never considered! I had my appointment a few months ago and was a little ticked when they scheduled my next cleaning for after the baby is here rather than early December when I was actually due. But I guess I would rather not have that belly to worry about. (Still...they're gonna have to deal with me bringing in like, a two-week-old.)

I do this about every day- except we have a cafeteria (I work at a hospital) so basically I eat my lunch early and then  my day just gets more expensive because I go buy more food....

I had my cleaning in early June which means my next one would be around the time Squish comes. Since we're not sure when that will exactly be they let me know I could call and schedule after baby comes. I've been going to this office for years now so they probably will play pass the baby among the staff and my mom while I get my cleaning/exam.

  • I just wanted to live-bump my parasite's baby hiccups. Repeated little bumps going on in the same place. I wish DH could feel - that's the easiest way for him to feel something because we know it's going to happen again. Maybe she'll be hiccupy again tonight...

  • @LinziLoo09 On that same note, our baby was so wiggly all night but every time I had FI feel, the baby stopped moving. There's been other times where FI has felt it, but I was so bummed that baby wouldn't kick when I wanted him to. Maybe baby just needs to get the hiccups? :)
  • Hiccups have always been easier for me to identify than the random kicking early on - especially with anterior placenta. DD1 had them all the time, so there were a lot of opportunities for DH to get a feel.

  • @slartybartfast I feel/see it from my cervix to my belly button. She's punching and doing headers with my placenta  (sitting over the cervix) so that is a really deadened feeling. But definitely baby moving.  But the kicks around belly button level are unmistakable! DH saw my belly move the other day from a kick.

My last pregnancy without the placenta previa I was getting actual punches to the cervix. I much prefer these deadened ones though I hate the reason for them!

  • Random and only mildly baby related:

So we have three dogs two cats, there's a gate in the hallway to keep the dogs and cats separated, mostly so the cats can have some space from the dogs when they need it, a place for their food in our room, and a litter box down the hall the dogs can't mess with.

In past homes and this one before I got pregnant, the cat box has always lived in an empty closet of a room we don't use much. The other spare bedroom was/is the guest room. Now, with baby on the way, we've kicked them out of that spare room that will become the nursery, and put them in the bottom of our linen closet. I hate this. I could list all the reasons why, but you probably can imagine.

Lately the box has been noticeably smelly to me (could just be because I'm pregnant) and the little granules irritate me more and more. What can I do? Where can I put this box? I feel like the guest bedroom closet is a rude place for it. "Sorry my cat's gonna need you to leave the door open so he can come in and poop." Husband says absolutely not about putting it in our room. Any suggestions?

  • @caseyewhitaker We've always kept ours in our bathroom, but our cats also don't have any dogs to contend with.
  • @ashleaf2018 the guest bathroom isn't out of the question. That could be a distinct possibility if I could get husband on board.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • @caseyewhitaker Are you lt cats cool with their box just moving in them? You could always stick with the guest room closest and just move it if you have company (if that's not super often). Unless your cats will still try and go in the closest...
