Re: Randoms 7.25

  • Dear fashionable and organized friends - I am on the hunt for some type of a daily wallet. I'm hoping to find something that I can use in lieu of taking my whole purse on days when I don't need that much stuff, just my phone and cards mostly. I've had a phone case that has slots for ID/cards but I'm tired of having such a bulky phone case so I'm going back to a traditional one. I found one by MochiThings but I'm afraid it's a little too bulky. Anyone have something that they love??

  • Yikes, I think my wallet was a Target or Kohl's find from years and years ago. I wish I had actual advice, @jennbaylor12

So I think I officially need a pregnancy back pillow for my chair at work. I have kidney stones, which doesn't make the pain any better, but in general my back has just been hurting more. I have the Snoogle, which helps at night, but I'm less familiar with pillows to support your lower back in office chairs. Any ideas?

  • @jennbaylor12 - i've been on this same hunt for like 2 years. I have found one recently that I'm liking because it houses my phone too. However, I bought it at nordstrom rack and it has no brand on it :(

@LinziLoo09 - those stone sound MISERABLE! As though normal pregnancy issues aren't enough. It doesn't seem fair. I don't have any rec's though.

  • @LinziLoo09 idk what it is or where it came from but I have this back support pillow that vibrates on my sewing chair at home. I'm about to bring it to work cuz I sit here way longer than I sew for. I acquired it from my grandmas house after she died so who knows how old it is or where it was bought. But it's magic.

I wonder if my coworkers will hear the vibrations...I work in a cube farm.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • @jennbaylor12 I have a dual sides coach wristlet. One side is large enough to tuck my phone into (w/ otter box) and the other has cards, cash, and change. It won't work if you have the iPhone 6 or any other larger phones, though.
  • @jennbaylor12 I was going to suggest for phone case idea. That's what I use. Maybe you can find a slimmer one? Amazon has tons. Some look like just a normal plastic case but only hold like one of two cards.

My random, I'm getting way more into our genetics now. Being a bio major, it's always been interesting, but now I think about it all the time. Maybe our kid could have green eyes since my mom does? How tall could a boy really be (I'm 5'0" FI is 5'8")? I wonder if their hair will be blond when they're little and get darker like ours both did?

Guess it just means it's getting more real to me and I'm getting more excited.
  • @jennbaylor12 - I have a coach double zip wristlet.  It's a wristlet with 2 pockets - one for cell phone and one for money/cards.  I like it bc I can take my phone in and out without dropping my money/cards everywhere.  Wristlets are great bc they can function as a wallet in a larger purse or on their own around your wrist (I'm less likely to lose this than a wallet).  I got it through their online outlet sale so I think it was $40.

@LinziLoo09 - not sure where you work but a coworker told me that if my back starts to bother me I should get someone to check if my workstation is ergonomically correct.  They apparently have to do this if it is a medical necessity (which I guess it is if you are pregnant).  This coworker got a new fancy desk chair from them.
  • @sourlemon Ooh a vibrating back pillow....yea, I'm gonna need one of those.

  • @slartybartfast I'm already prone to stones thanks to my fabulous genetics, but I've had a ridiculous amount of them in the last three years with pregnancies and breastfeeding. I finally realized that it's probably because it's harder for me to drink enough fluids to keep them at bay. All of my fluids are going to the baby/pregnancy or milk production. So in effect, even when I'm well-hydrated I'm dehydrated. I've tried to drink as much as I can to counter this issue, but it's hard to do with work, gross-tasting water fountains, and already having having to pee a ridiculous amount. I have a couple of other friends who get kidney stones during pregnancy as well. It's not common, but it's one of those 65,000 possible symptoms that happens to a super small percentage of women. Hopefully I've covered the statistical necessity for kidney stones in our Dec 16 group and all you ladies will be stone-free ;)

  • @LinziLoo09 - D16 thanks you for your service!

My random - I don't understand why, but some other people's babies I LOVE. And then some I don't want to touch. WTF? Like my cousin's adorable little 7 month old. I don't want to hold her. My book-club friend's baby? I'm all over! I don't get it... Why do I have this baby bias?

  • I'm the same way @slartybartfast . I've gotten better since having DD, but I definitely don't care about every baby/child I meet. In fact when I was pregnant with DD and had the baby shower at 7-8 months, my 3 year old niece came with SIL to the party. At the end of the day after they had gone home, I had an anxiety attack about how I could only tolerate her for a short amount of time and that I was going to be a terrible mom. Different than what you're talking about, but I still find that I have a limited amount of tolerance for many other children.

  • @jennbaylor12 I have a Coach wristlet with a single zipper, and that worked great, but didn't hold my phone. Recently I bought a Kate Spade travel wallet from the outlet near my house, and it's been fantastic--I actually have too many card slots! It's got a front pocket that I slip my phone into on the go. My only beef is that I kind of wish it had a wrist strap.

  • @jennbaylor12 my MIL and I both have a wallet with a wrist strap from Vera Bradley.  Check out the "all in one cross body for iPhone 6+" if you have a bigger phone. Otherwise I really love the "your turn smartphone wristlet".
  • OMG @tinattt23 I am a genetics freak! I love anything genetics. DH and I already sat down and did Punnett squares and determined the odds of what Squish will look like. We've pretty much determined they'll have brown eyes (like both of us, with a very low odds for having green eyes like my dad, since DH's dad has blue eyes which is recessive). Squish will have brown hair of some kind, but we're stuck on if it will be auburn or not. Mine is auburn and DH started out with auburn that turned dark brown/black. We also determined baby will have an oval shaped face, high cheekbones, detached earlobes, some kind of bump on their nose, eyes that tilt slightly downward and medium lips. Squish will probably also get our sensitive skin, asthma and ADHD. Based on the 3D ultrasound we got baby's got the oval shaped face, a tiny bump on their nose and high cheekbones, so we're right on with that!

  • @ashleaf2018 Savor all of the cute little kicks now :) In third tri with DD, you could see the entire arch of her foot when she would stretch out. I knew then that she had big clown baby feet, which she did/does. Your belly does some weird things in third tri...

  • @phoenix870509 It just hit me recently thinking about all the possibilities. I think it's getting more real to me finally. I'm pretty positive they'll have brown eyes (like we both do), but the little what if they get so and so's genes are still fun. I just hope they get height from somewhere! I have maybe 3 average/tall people in my whole family. FI has a few more, but still not much. Poor kids screwed. Hope they don't dream of playing basketball!
  • Omg big clown baby feet sound hilariously cute!

my random - I was really getting freaked out because my bump has been HUGE the last couple days. Three trips to the bathroom this morning and it's like cut by a third. I am amazed/comforted/grossed out

  • @ashleaf2018 in the 3rd tri with L he would run his hand from side to side of my belly and my stretch marks bled. It was cool until the blood. Then it was 'how many weeks before I can evict him?'

I had an eye doctor appointment yesterday and the doctor told me they can see signs of GD when they dialate your eyes or take a picture.  Mine were good - which was nice to hear since I passed a 1 hour glucose test.  Just an interesting fact!

  • Someone on here the other day said they found gender reveal cakes to be cheesy. I'm just curious, why is it cheesy? Because other people have done it? I feel like it's the most sensible choice financially because it will be eaten, yes?

I think it's a cute idea but on the cheesy side mostly because it's very popular right now. Same with balloons. We did a mini reveal for my family with powdered drink mix... i just covered the labels and the drink turned pink or blue when they poured it in water. It was a good alternative I thought, super affordable and everyone could "play along" at once.

  • I find an all out party to be a little cheesy. We did a cake but we brought it to our family's Fourth of July potluck as our dish. We had to bring a dish anyway, and everyone likes cake. My friend who's due in October did a cake smash reveal but it was her and husband and they did it by themselves and uploaded a Facebook video. It was super cute!
  • We did a cake both times. It was to announce to my family (my mom cut the cake). Who cares if it's cheesy....it works and it's delicious!

I personally think having a fun party or get together for the occasion and enjoying yourselves over happy news isn't lame OR cheesy. After years of TTC I'm looking forward to enjoying every little moment, I imagine many other mamas around here probably are too regardless of the time they needed to get pregnant. I support you. Cake is delicious, and I don't like to pass up an opportunity to have some. I'm already anticipating a bite of mine.

  • We had a get together with friends on Sunday and there was cake. Just a regular chocolate cake with the two names written on it. I wanted to cut into it and show everyone it was just pure chocolate, not pink or blue, but DH nixed that (later polls showed our friends would have loved that). We announced by holding up a chalkboard with baby's name written on it. I didn't think I would have a lot of fun because this isn't what I wanted, but I did end up enjoying myself and seeing our friends reactions was priceless. My 8 year old nephew ran up to me afterward hugged me and started talking to the baby (and he didn't hug me, he clarified, he was hugging his cousin). He's so excited and already has plans for the baby. He's adorable.

  • We are doing a cupcake with the center having the colored frosting. We are doing it at L's 1st Birthday Party. No a special party, as that is a pain with us living 3ish hrs away.
I was going to do it in his smash cake, but H's grandma is making that and no one but us gets to know before hand. So there will be a sex giant cup cake.

  • @Kate08Young - have you tried those?  the chocolate cake one says egg, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder.  I'm trying to figure out how that ends up being the consistency of cake... (might have to experiment later)...

I haven't tried that particular one. I have a recipe at home that is something like: 1 egg, 1 Tb flour, sugar, cocoa, and vanilla.

I make a mug cake that doesn't have an egg. It's 4 tbs flour, 4 tbs sugar, 2 tbs cocoa, 2 tbs oil. Microwave for 45 ish seconds. I wouldn't call it cake really, more like chocolate goo...I suppose similar to a lava cake. But, it hits the spot and I always have the ingredients when I need a fix.

Don't question how it works. Just know it does work. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but to each their own.
