@Serpica clogged ducts are the worst! I had them a few times when I was bfing ds. Hot showers, followed by a hot compress directly on the site and using my thumb to massage the area while pumping or bfing was how I got rid of them! Really painful though!
@brittanym211 with ds my milk came in probably 3-4 days after he was born, this time it was on day 2 in the evening so like 2.5 days.
Breastfeeding is going pretty well for us except Landon is super sleepy and usually falls asleep within 5 mins. I have to agitate him by changing his diaper or undressing him to get him to keep feeding. He's a little jaundice which is making him more sleepy, our ped isn't concerned though as he is eating and pooping adequately and his weight is stable. He was born at 7lbs 2oz, left the hospital at 6 lbs 6 oz and was 6lbs 7 oz today at the dr. Turns out him and I have an abo incompatibility which means we have different blood types, so during delivery our blood was exchanged and his rbc's started breaking down which is causing him to be jaundice. Learn something new every day! I haven't checked my weight yet but I was up exactly 20lbs the day before delivery when I went in for my induction. I still have some swelling in my legs and feet so once that goes down I will weigh myself!
Hope everyone's night is going good so far and you mama's are able to get a little sleep! I'm back to bed for hopefully a 3ish hrs til next feed!
Thank you! He just melted and then I did too! It was so sweet! How long did it take you ladies to get your milk in? I'm still on colostrum and looking forward to start stocking up on milk for little man.
With my daughter my milk came in when she was 3 days old. So we'll see how it goes this time.
3 days old and completely engorged today. It's crazy how you forget everything between baby's. This is my third and I don't remember my boobs being so huge and painful with the other two but I'm glad she's had no problems latching and hopefully these things will calm the f down soon
eta: also have to remember to start wearing a bracelet or something to remind me which side I last fed because I suck at remembering

What phone do you have? I downloaded the ibaby app for my iPhone, it keeps track of feeds, which breast you used last, wet and dirty diapers, growth charts, etc. It's pretty badass.

I did download something but for me I think it's easier to have the physical reminder on my wrist especially in the middle of the night
How's all you mamas and babies doing? My poor Landon has his Bris and was circumcised yesterday! Poor kid! He's been exhausted since and nursing has been more of a struggle bc he just wants to sleep! He's doing pretty well otherwise! His newborn pics were done on Thursday, I can't wait to see them!
Im 8 days postpartum and once or twice a day I have about a 15 minute period where I have terrible cramping still! Anyone else experiencing this? I read the postpartum cramping is much worse for a 2nd + pregnancy but I didn't think it would last this long! I'll prob call my ob tomorrow just to check w them!
Yay I get to join this thread now! Ari is like the most perfect baby (says every mom ever)!! He nurses so well, and the nurses here at post parfum are impressed with all his poops - 5 so far, 1 day in! I can't wait to go home, but am also scared to cause I'm pretty immobile right now
Yay! I'm here Emmalyn is doing some crazy cluster feeding and I am so exhausted. She is finally sleeping but only managed it doing skin to skin so I haven't slept much at all. Lots of naps today for me I think!
@foxa319 my cramping lasted almost 2 weeks but it was my first baby so I'm not sure if it just differs from person to person or depends on the number of pregnancies/babies.
@rakel88 I felt the same way... I definitely recommend getting up and walking as soon as possible. My tiny baby steps were stupid and it took forever but stretching my body made a world of difference. Same when I got home, it was so much harder to get out of bed/up from the couch if I hadn't kept active, even getting up a couple times in the night to move my body. Hang in there, you will feel a hundred times better in a couple days.

I was up the next day after surgery, but suuuuper slow. Definitely getting up and moving around pretty much whenever I'm not holding the baby, and it sucks at first but once i'm standing it's fine They gave me a girdle type thing today and it's made a world of difference too. We're staying an extra day even though they were going to discharge us this afternoon, just to be sure the pain is manageable and my mobility keeps improving, but home tomorrow!!
@schaze I'm 9 days post partum had a 2nd degree tear and unfortunately I'm still in pain sometimes from it! Granted I'm probably doing way more than I'm supposed to but I have a 12 month old and a newborn! With the use of lots and lots of ice packs swelling went down after 3 or so days I'd say!
I am 16 days post partumn, I had a second degree episiotomy. I'm still sore, but 1000 times better then last week. I used ice packs for the first 7 days, Tylenol and Advil around the clock, and I have been taking warm baths with Epsom salts, I just fold a towel to sit on so its more gentle on my bottom! The baths have been my saviour I swear! But each day gets better and better hang in their mommas!
You girls are making me nervous about tearing. I was very lucky with my daughter and didn't tear or get cut. I was very much back to normal the day we had her with no pain. Now that I have a little one at home and will have a baby too I can already tell the difference just during pregnancy. Having to manage it all while in pain.....eeehhh not excited about that.
@mrsmommya I think you are less likely to tear the next time around because things are already stretched.
Yes! I tore horribly with my first and had zero tears with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Besides the uterus contracting back down from birth recovery has gotten easier and easier each time.
Wife. Boy mom x6. Expecting #7. Wannabe homesteader. , 💙💙💙💙💙💙
I had a second degree tear (along the same path that I did with my son), and I stopped taking Advil after about a week. I don't have any pain now almost two weeks out and haven't for a few days.
Officially joining this thread. Ellie was born 6/26 at 3:35pm after 12 ish hours of labor. Thursday 6/24 I lost my mucus plug and started having sporadic contractions that came and went. By Saturday they were pretty consistent of 5 to 10 minutes part. I ended up going to L&D around 5:30 am Sat but was sent home because labor wasn't progressing. I labored with painful contractions until 3am Sunday when my water broke (at the time I wasn't 100% certain because I felt the pop but hardly anything came out) and then I started experiencing the "real contractions"
We raced to L&D to find out I had only progressed half a centimeter since I was last in L&D. The nurse tested my cervix with a swab to see if my water was broken and then was told to walk the halls to see if I could progress more. DH and I walked around a while and then went back to triage where the nurse said my swab came back positive. I was so happy to get into my labor room. Because I have vein issues they had to order a IV specialist to start my IV fluids and my antibiotics for GBS. I ended up vomiting with my contractions and decided to jump in the shower to help with the pain until the specialist came.
At some point I started to shake very badly either from the pain or possibly adrenaline or being cold out of the shower but it made contractions worse so they tried giving me Fentanyl to help with the pain while I waited for the epidural. Fentanyl didn't put a dent in my contractions and I was relieved when the anesthesiologist showed up to give me my epi. It worked great but my left side was definitely more numb than my right. After the epidural was administered I was given a cervical check and was 5 centimeters. 2 hours later I was only a 6. Soon after I was given the lowest dose of pitocin to help my contractions but they ended up increasing the dose to move me along.
The contractions were monitored and became more intense and closer together to the point where I wasn't as numb started to feel that contractions and my anesthesiologist adjusted my epi and upped the dose of the epidural to help. After that I was checked again and at 9 1/2 centimeters. Once I reached about 10 I was able to push because I could feel the pressure of each contraction. About an hour or so of pushing and she will as born! I did end up with a 2nd degree tear so they stitched me up while I did the hour of skin to skin bonding. All her sugars were great (I had GD) and I requested to go home after 24 hours.
@DarkCat Congratulations!! I love her name. I'm also going to need the GBS antibiotics with this pregnancy. They let you go after 24 hours? For some reason, I feel like I read I would have to stay the full 48.
@DarkCat congrats! Glad things went well. Hubby is a type 1 diabetic and they did some sugar testing with Elliott too just in case. It's crazy what's considered "normal" sugar levels for a baby! Fingers crossed you can get home and start recovering there ASAP.
Thank you. Yes, they allowed me to be discharged a few hours after she was 24 hours old. I just didn't enjoy the the nurses and doctors coming and going all the time and hubby and I got zero sleep. Much prefer to be home and get on a schedule for her feedings. She is doing great so far
Congrats @DarkCat!!! @mrsmommya I didn't tear with my first but I did with this guy! Probably though bc my first was 5lbs 9oz and my second was 7lbs 2 oz!
Alright, nursing bras. Pretty sure my milk came in and my. boobs. are. massive! And heavy! I don't mind spending a little more if it's really good, cause I intend to breastfeed for at least a year, but obviously cheaper is fantastic. Also, sizing recommendations for whatever you guys suggest? I got a Bravado one that I really like but the size was good for like the first day and now I feel like Dolly Parton in it..
Ditto on the nursing bras. Especially, if anyone has any knowledge on plus size bras. I wear a 42C currently but I'm sure that will change when my milk comes in.
I usually buy my bras (and bathing suits) from herroom.com They have a lot of extended larger sizes and have a great return and shipping policy. I have been a 34E or above (right now, way above) my whole adult life, so it's always been a challenge to find a great bra store. Their shipping is typically very very fast so you should have it by the end of the week if you order something today. Lots of reviews and fit testers leaving fit advice so you are sure to order the right size.
I would wait a little bit before you go out and buy a new bra. If I remember right once you're not engorged anymore your boobs will go down quite a bit. Probably not to what they were, so you will most likely have to still buy another bra, but they should definitely go down.
edit to add: sorry I don't have any recommendations on good nursing bras though.... I want some more info on this also as mine were so uncomfortable last time.
I got several nursing bras from target! I figured I'd rather just buy the cheaper ones so as my size changes over the course of my breast feeding days I wouldn't be mad when I had to waste money to buy new ones! They also had some on clearance! I bought 3 in my normal bra size 38c and they all fit great! In the morning when I wake up I have porn star boobs before I feed and pump but I'm 10 days post partum now and my supply has pretty much figured itself out and I'm only engorged in the morning! I also bought a few nursing camis so I don't have to wear a bra at night to bed and can just pop my nursing pads in that instead!
What at nursing pads is everyone using? I hate hate hate the disposables they make my nips irritated! I bought some medela cotton ones and they suck! I wake up wet!
My cousin is a LC and she suggested to start the Gilligan & O'Malley Nursing Sleep Bra 2-Pack from Target. I got them and I am obsessed, they are very lightweight and super comfortable. You literally just pull your boob out no fussing with straps. She also swears by waiting to wear the padded nursing bras with the underwire until your milk regulates. Sometimes the restriction on those bras can lead to clogged ducts..
As for Miss Harper, we are so beyond in love, she is an amazing sleeper. Two nights ago she caused a mega mommy meltdown though, she went on a 7 hour nursing strike and wouldn't breastfeed even though she was definitely starving, looking for the boob but refusing to latch. I didn't receive my pump yet due to her being early, so my Saint of a mother ran to a 24 hour Super Walmart and got me a manual pump. I pumped, put on a newborn nipple on her bottle and she took it right away. I was scared that breast feeding was over and I was gunna have to exclusively pump. Not the case(: Harper was just having a diva moment she latched two feedings later.
Any mommys lurking who didn't have their babies yet, if you plan on breast feeding, have a pump ready just in case your little one is being stubborn. I wish I had planned better and already had one at home it would of saved me and Harper a lot of tears.
Good advice PP. Though I gave birth in a hospital and they provided me with a manual pump and supplies- several bottles, horns, etc. so I wish I hadn't bought one myself because I already unpackaged it and now it can't be returned. Oh well.
@foxa319- with DD I loved bamboobies! I would switch out the colors to help me remember which side to nurse on. I used 1 bright pink one on the side to nurse and light pink or black on the other side. After nursing, I would switch them.
@DarkCat Your milk right now is probably a combination of colostrum and regular breast milk. The colostrum will gradually phase out. At least that's how it was for me with DS.
