August 2016 Moms

Randoms 6/13-6/19

I had a doctors appointment this morning and my alarm didn't go off. I woke up with 10 minutes to get myself and DD ready before we had to leave to drop her off at my moms. I am way too pregnant to have to rush around like that.

  • Typically I love oatmeal for breakfast. At work it has been my go-to breakfast for the last couple years... it's easy and healthy. But, for the last 5 or 6 weeks, it makes me want to gag. I still try and choke it down b/c I usually forget to bring anything else to eat in the morning, but it is such a struggle. I can't imagine why something as bland as oatmeal would make me feel so gross.

I had to get recertified in CPR over the weekend. The trainer is an emergency nurse and EMT so she always shares real life stories and pictures during her trainings. Normally I love it because it makes the training have a purpose and puts your mind in the midst of the crisis. However, when you are pregnant it is NOT a good idea. She was sharing a story about a small child and I start crying thinking about what those patents must have went thru. I'm sniffling and wiping tears away when she looks over and says, "Oh, I'm sorry sweetie."
I responded with "Pregnancy hormones suck!" Everyone starts chuckling and the trainer responds with, "Yes, they do. But It happens to the best of us."
After that she didn't share anymore stories throughout the class. I need 12 more continuing ed hours before the end of the year. I think I will wait till the hormones are settled down before I sign up for more.

  • @Bookhousegirl I feel your pain! We moved a couple weeks ago and I would pack a box and then feel overwhelmed or tired and need to sit for a break (sometimes more breaks than boxes packed). When we finally moved, I stayed at the new place while stuff was hauled in and even though I threw a lot away, I threw even more while I was unpacking. Basically, nesting kicked in HARD, so don't feel too defeated with your packing!
  • @Bookhousegirl that sounds like something I would do. You know you'll get through this one way or another!

I woke up at 7:35 AM thinking I had plenty of time to get to the office by 8:30 but I actually had an 8 am. Tried to get ready as quickly as possible but with all the exhaustion from this weekend's activities, I paused, texted boss, and decided to call into all my mtgs.

I just can't anymore. Propping my feet up on the pillows & taking it easy today.

@AliKay20I really wanted to call out today, but I had to proctor an exam. I work at a University and everyone is out on vacation, so I really have nothing to do.. so I'm nesting on the internet like crazy.... and my husband doesn't even believe Nesting exists... it urks him that people say nesting is a thing and he told me that its just my personality.... I wanted to smack him lol
  • Is anyone else having to "learn to say no" as you go into this summer? We have so many weddings, showers, bachelor/bachelorette a, birthdays, etc that I'm getting overwelmed by it all. I imagined my last month(s)  of pregnancy to be nesting around the house and drinking lemonade on the patio, and now it's like I have the social life of a 20 year old and I don't even want to go to half the things!! Thankfully people have been understanding, but as a FTM is such a contrast to DH and I being game for anything.

@CaitlinJ22 I'm due August 15th and we are going to a wedding on August 13th haha. However, that is the only thing we have committed to. Also, if I don't make it I will send my gift and they will understand.
  • Has anyone had a NST before? I had my first
one today and out of nowhere I started to get really sweaty and nauseous. Had to call the nurse back in and they sat me up more in the chair and brought me some water and Hershey's kisses. It came out of nowhere and wasn't sure if that was normal or what....

  • I don't think this has come up on our board yet, but is anyone planning to do (or has done) the placenta encapsulation? DH's cousin offered to do mine for free as a gift, and I'm on the fence. I know all the evidence is anecdotal and there's no solid research supporting it, but I'm really concerned about PPD and I figure maybe it's worth a shot.

I've been RSVPing "maybe" to a lot.  Mostly because who the F knows how I'll be feeling!  And now that my cervix shortened, I'm waiting to hear if I need to relax more or if I can even be chasing my almost 3yo around a birthday party at the end of July or not.

Personally, it grosses me out. But it does work for some people. Even if it's just a placebo effect, it could be worth it--If you think it will help, it may actually help. And if it alleviates some of your anxiety about PPD, that might be enough to stop (or at least lessen) PPD/PPA. And if they'll do it for free, you might as well do it; you can decide later if you actually want to take them.

My friend is doing it with her placenta. She just gave birth last week so I don't know if she has them back yet or not. She did it because she has major anxiety in general and does well on medication but goes off her meds while pregnant and nursing. With her first child she had major PPA and couldn't/wouldn't take anything (she saw a counselor though).  So she said she's trying encapsulation this time because whether it helps or there's a placebo effect, she's hoping it will be a little better this time around.
  • @Snaps816 I have the same problem with water saving shower heads because of my hair! My parents have one and wonder why the shortest shower I can take is 20 to 30 minutes. I feel like me taking a shower with one of those is actually wasting more water.
  • Those of you with big boobs, where do you buy your bras?  My regular size is a 36DD or 38DD, so I can juuuuust fit into Victoria's Secret.  My 38DDs are getting really tight around the band, and VS doesn't go any higher than this.  I've tried non VS brands before, but I feel like all other brands of bras just make my boobs look pointy instead of round.  I have a few 40DDs from my last pregnancy, but they're just not cute...I know I would only have to suck it up for about 8 more weeks but I don't wanna!  Where do my large-chested lady friends buy your bras?

  • I haven't tried them yet, but there's an online bra/undies/etc. thing that's similar to like, stitch fix or ipsy. It's called Adore Me and there's a first time buyer deal that's really good. They have a great range of sizes and are super cute.
  • @Snaps816 I'm with you, you did the right thing! Lol I would go insane if my shower was like that! You to girl!

Anyone full on nesting? I can't sit still it seems. The house is driving me nuts and everything needs to be perfect and ready. Reality is nothing is perfect, but I need it to be damn near close!
  • @JournoGrl23 I agree, it felt like I had to stand in there so long, I had to have been using the same amount of water. And I figure when the baby comes I'll need to be able to take quick showers (the baby really comes in handy for rationalizing things, lol).
  • @SkiChic626 I get my bras from a plus size store called torrid. Their sizes around start at 38. The last time I bought a bra from there I had to buy a DDD. I like them because they have great support because they are made for women with bigger chests.
  • @SkiChic626 I am not blessed in the chest area but my friends who are seem to like Layne Bryant (sp?) For their bras. I exchanged a bra for a friend a few weeks ago and the sales people were very friendly and the racks seemed to have various sizes/styles.

I sure am. Everything is deep cleaned, shower was Sunday.  All the presents are put away, clothes are washed and put in the dresser, bottles are cleaned and a space cleared in my cupboard for them.  I'm almost done with thank you notes and just need to pick up our pack and play and stroller from our parents who were storing them for us.  I'm going garage sailing this weekend for the rest of the stuff we didn't get from the shower.  I have officially nested... I think last week it hit me being hooked up to the monitors and seeing BH contractions 5 minutes apart that these babies will be here probably sooner than later.  I also packed my hospital bag and have it sitting there ready to go. I just need a couple more things in it.

  • @SkiChic626 I'm the same size and I was buying my bras from Soma before I got pregnant. They have a ton of sizes, have some really cute bras, and are comfortable. I've always had good customer service with them and have a more way relax atmosphere compared to VS. I'll probably buy a few nursing bras from them, but I've been just buying a few bras from Target to tide me over for now.

@SkiChic626, I think Victoria Secret may have increased the bra sizes they are carrying recently.  I stopped in during the semiannual clearance sale and they had lots of sizes I didn't recall them having before. It looks like online the are going up to 40DDD, not sure if that helps or not.

Yes! I have bag packed and I've been urging DH to pack some things for himself but if he doesn't get on board tonight I'll be packing him up myself lol. I've got my shower Saturday so as soon as we have everything home from that I'll be putting it all away a and finishing up whatever is left by Sunday. I had forgotten with DD how it feels! Such a sense of urgency to have things done lol and energy!

@jacmkelley and @tmk0325 I did my first load of baby clothes/ sheets last night so I can pack the hospital bag
  • I'm a 32C probably closer to a D now that my boobs have grown but I can't be bothered to wear a bra anymore. Whenever I wear one my back starts to kill and I just feel suffocated.

For bras in bigger sizes, I would recommend Lane Bryant as well. That's where my mom gets hers and they have pretty cute ones!

Yes, I know Torrid!  I had to shop there while BFing because my regular clothes just weren't fitting after my weight gain (I'm usually around a 12).  I found that they have a decent selection and the stuff isn't frumpy.  I do have one bra from there, it's a 40D, and that's too big right now....aaargh!

I went online earlier today to check on the specific bra that I want, and it only goes up to 38DD, which is the size in the bra that I'm currently wearing and is cutting off the circulation to my upper body lol *womp womp*

cal031686 I actually shopped there a little while I was BFing because I was like a 14/16.  Their bras are actually made by Victoria's Secret :-)  I never ended up buying bras because they were actually too big...too much material up the sides that cut into my armpits, but definitely nice styles.  Unfortunately, their location by me recently closed.

  • @DressageDarling
Thanks!  It looks like their closest location to me is somewhat of a drive - def a weekend errand.  I'll check them out, though.  Good to know they also have nursing bras, which VS does NOT.  I have tons from DD, so my fingers are crossed that they'll fit again, but just in case they don't it's good to know what other options are out there other than Motherhood or Destination Maternity.  Some people say nursing bras aren't necessary, so I went without at first, but then was having serious back aches.  I got a few to give it a whirl, and it was a game changer - they're a total necessity IMO!

  • I was actually kind of looking forward to having bigger boobs during pregnancy and they haven't grown much at all. I'm still wearing my regular bra and was hoping to at least go from a B to a C. I'm assuming it will still happen later? It shouldn't affect breastfeeding?

I have my baby shower this Saturday and have been looking for a dress for the past two days. I figured once I got to the states it would be easy to find a dress and I feel like I can't find maternity dresses anywhere?! I have a dress that isn't maternity as a "backup" if I can't find one I love. I'm regretting not ordering something online from Pink Blush maternity or something. They have such cute dresses! I'm going to try again tomorrow but then after that I'll just have to go with what I have.

@Hannah0726 It seems like most of the maternity stuff out there is online-only! Really frustrating when you've got an event in a few days. Macy's has an in-store maternity department, if you're still looking.

ETA: The Macy's near me had a materntiy department, you might call your local store to find out.
  • Thanks for the tip @Snaps816 ! I'll definitely check out Macy's.
