What does everyone thing about Ayla? My fiancé and I are having some trouble finding a name we both like and don't really want to ask family their opinions after the hurtful feedback we have had previously. Ayla Rose or Ayla Josephine? My fiancé's last name is long, so is it better to have a short middle name or is a longer one ok?
@dmontgo great choice! Knox is the only name my husband and I can agree on:) We're naming our baby Knox Belliveau if it's a boy (Belliveau is a family name). I am suprized how often I've heard the name Knox since we agreed on it. Previously I had never met anyone named Knox. I guess it's the brad/Angelina factor but I hope it doesn't become too popular.
@maamawaabangi I love the name Della! i think the addition of Jane is very complimentary. It's pretty and feminine but also kinda sounds like a badass gunslinger from the Wild West (and I mean that in the best way possible). I think the two names together make it feel seperate enough especially if your oldest goes primarily by Addy.

I like Ayla a lot! I went to college with someone named Ayla, although her name was mispronounced a fair amount, so that's something to consider. They would say the beginning with a long i sound rather than the long a. That wouldn't deter me personally, though! I like it with Josephine, but if your fiance's last name is long, Rose might be the way to go.
@aframe77 I forgot about Bradgelina naming their son Knox. Shows how cool I am lol. I haven't heard it around here yet so hopefully it doesn't get *too* popular.
@caffeinenut Jumping in to say I really like Ayla Rose too! Ayla in general is a really pretty name - sounds classic but unique at the same time.
@maamawaabangi I like Della Jane as well! I also really love the name Delia if you were hoping to find something a bit further from Addie. It's been nixed by my husband (waaahhh!!) so I am really hoping I see someone name their little one Delia!
@dmontgo I don't think Knox will be too popular, I think the Brangelina's Knox is much older now (maybe 9 or 10?) - I love it though. A friend of mine named her son Dax and I love it for the same reason... it's interesting and memorable without being totally off the rails
@ea301 Della is a family inspired name, I do like Delia too.
That said, I have strong feelings this baby is a boy... With some educated "feelings" in there. So I am planning on Phinehas or another option... Depending on my guys reaction.
We definitely have agreed on Wyatt Steven. We're keeping it hush from everyone for awhile longer.
I never really liked many boy names, and some that I did are still too popular. We have a very common last name, so I wanted something that stuck out a little bit. Others thought of were Jake and Rhett. Rhett is still on my mind, but I really love Wyatt.
I don't think we would have agreed to a girl's name. DH shot down most of the ones I have loved for years, and I wanted to make sure he loved it, too. Some ideas: Aria, Rory, Leighton, Kate, Charlotte, Lorelei, Emily. He did like Reese, but one of our friends just named their son Rhys, so that, to me, was too similar.

@maamawaabangi oh duh, I remember you saying that Della was a family name now! In any case, if LO is a girl, I don't think it's too similar and goes well with Addie
@kacie209 I really like all of your ideas, and Wyatt is a great pick for a more common last name. I hear you on DH nixing most of your beloved names. I am in the same boat. He told me "just pick a name and let me know what it is" but I know we're going to have to compromise. Our last name starts with an A, so it kinda limits us - any of the names that end in an -A end up sounding so stilted.
DH and I decided on Little Dude's name a while back but have only told close family and friends while we made sure of it. I'm curious now about some thoughts here, on one particular point specifically.
We have chosen Oliver Andrew. We are enamored by the nn Ollie and Andrew is a family name. I have read that Oliver is trending to be a popular 2016 choice and, while that goes against so much of what I thought I'd do for a child someday, it doesn't seem to be trending where we are.....more Midwest and overseas. So, I'm not too worried about that. What does worry me?
The initials. Our last name starts with a W. His initials would be OAW, or, OW. OW! OW! OW!
His name fills me with intense joy and was an instant LOVE for DH who is picky to the extreme but has zero issue with the initials. Any thoughts here, or am I (as usual) overthinking it?
We are leaning towards August for our guy. No family connections, just a name we both like which has been hard to find. Might use Jackson as the middle name which is a family name.
@caffeinenut I like Ayla Rose a lot, unique but still sounds classic. But Josephine was our top girl choice so I love that too
@maamawaabangi love Della! I know a Della and she is an awesome strong woman. Great choice!
We think we have finally decided on a name for our girl. We have picked Grayson Everly. We both love the strength of the name Grayson (even though it is usually a masculine name) and it lends to some great nicknames as well. Everly will be in memory of my mom (who was Beverly).

I love Oliver and I think the OW initials thing is a non-issue.
@Kacie209 I love seeing other mamas loving Rhett! I think Wyatt is such a good choice too, it has the same feel as Rhett to me and you don't see it too often.
Along the same lines of the initial issue raised by @swhiddon3, one of the names we like is Olivia. I know it's super common, and I'm not sure we can get over that, but if we did, we'd name her Olivia Joyce. Joyce was DH's late mother's name, so we both really want to use that as a middle name. I'm worried about the initials OJ. Thoughts? Every time DH and I talk about this, he tries to assure me by saying, "well, OJ actually was an amazing athlete and really well-loved [before he murdered two people]." Nothing will make me okay with OJ Simpson. I'm just wondering if the initials will be an issue.
Other names we like are Gabriella Joyce and Natalie Joyce. We probably won't pick Gabriella because I hate the nn Gabby. If anyone has any input or ideas, I'd love to hear them! I'm so at a loss for girl names. I feel like boys' names are so much easier.
OJ makes me think of orange juice before it ever makes me think of OJ Simpson. I never use my middle name unless I'm filling out a form or I'm in trouble with my mom, lol. And my initials are AM, I never hear anything about "AM radio" or "AM/PM." I think kids making fun of initials is a lot less common than some people think. @cjt121413
@cjt121413 the first thing that honestly came to mind when you said OJ, was orange juice, and not the actual person. I don't think she'd get made fun of for her initials. I don't recall using my middle name much. That's just my opinion though. Maybe I'm just craving orange juice
We didn't even think about initials when we were coming up with names. Our last name starts with a U, so anything we pick has the chance of being the same of some university. Oh well, what can you do?

I don't think it matters much about initials either with first and middle names. It was important to my husband though that all three initials not spell a word. We really liked Eleanor Elizabeth but we nixed the option because her full initials would spell EEW.
@kbduke Grayson was on my long list too... I was thinking of spelling it a more feminized way... Gracyn, Graceyn or something like that. Everly is a smart way to include Beverly.
I agree, I think the initials OJ are not bad! She may even like them! Kids born now probably won't even know who OJ Simpson is and will just think of orange juice, as @ashleaf2018 mentioned.
I also agree that boy names are easier! If we were having a boy, he'd have been named something really simple (and boring - haha) like James Robert or James Lee, after family members. Girl names are proving to be much more difficult for us.
Our initials will always spell something. We do all A middle names for my family. FI last starts with an R. So it's more likely than not we'll spell something. I think as long as you avoid ASS, you're probably fine.
Bonus points for initials that are their name. Like my uncle Pat's initials are PAT. I think it's super cool for some reason.
We're having a girl and we've decided on a first name Gwendolyn, Gwen for short, but we're having a hard time deciding on a middle name. We've narrowed it down to 2 that are family names and have significance to us. The first is Isabelle which is my husbands paternal grandmother's middle name... She passed away about 14 years ago a few years after we started dating. The second is Ann, which is my grandmothers name. She basically was my second mom...she watched me and my brother before and after school when my mom worked and I'm really close with her (we talk almost every day on the phone). I'd love to use Ann because I would like to honor my grandma because of everything that she has done for me throughout my life but I like the name Isabelle better and understand the significance to my husband. The thing is that my oldest's middle name, Huntington, is a family name for my husband (every first born boy has the middle name for the last 8 generations) and our second child, we just used a first and middle name we liked, no family ties, so I kind of feel like I want to use a family name of mine.... We've also thrown around the idea of using both, either Gwendolyn Ann Isabelle or Gwendolyn Isabelle Ann.
we recently decided on names, so now I can participate in this post!
When we found out we were having twins, we agreed on two boy names right away, but only one girl name, Ellie Bliss. We told his family this, and his sister said that Ellie Bliss sounds like a stripper -_- I told her that Bliss is actually my grandma's middle name, and that's why we picked it. She since then has repeatedly said that it sounds like a stripper name, even after I explained the family thing to her. It makes me want to punch her. She named her daughter something that is more commonly a last name, rather than a little girl's name...and no one said a damn thing to her about it!
We've now decided on Olivia Bliss and Sophia Lynn I've told people who've asked, but haven't like announced it on facebook or anything. Haven't told his sister yet...but if she makes the stripper comment again I swear I'll have trouble controlling my urge to hit her. I had one friend who said interesting when I told her the names....and I told her Bliss was my grandma's middle name, and Lynn is his mom's name...and she's like "ohhh okay, yeah Bliss threw me off." um, thanks?
I was a little disappointed to learn that the names we chose are currently the #2 & #3 most popular names...but oh well. We don't personally know anyone with those names.
@mimi603107 I've always loved Gwendolyn! It's on my list of girl names (now being saved for round 2, lol)
My BIL's initials are ARM, and some of his friends and his gf's family call him Arm. But I don't think he minds, and I honestly never realized that's why they called him that until someone explained it to me. I assumed it was because he had strong arms or something...
At my company we all go by initials, so it's on my mind a lot. Clearly it was not on the minds of the parents of one managers... whose initials are TRD. Every time I use them I giggle and think of a turd. Yes, I'm that mature.
I can't remember if I've commented lol...we are having a boy and naming him Kristopher Henry. After me (Kristen) and my dad's name is Henry. I think it feels pretty solid, and I like the K, not as common as CH.
@brittnic86 - if it makes you feel any better, I knew a girl whose first name was Bliss and never thought twice about it having a double meaning until you posted. I think your names are great - they are popular for a reason!
