Heh! Date night, I wish! They put me in a room with another woman who had just given birth (who was sobbing ALL NIGHT) and DH had to leave by 8PM each day. The closest thing to date night we had was one day we ordered pizza (hospital food was not cutting it) and did a toast with our favorite whiskey.

  • Loading the player...
  • @bkjade Pizza and Whiskey sounds damn awesome!
  • No date night for us either. DH picked up sushi for me and I had to ask for a meal card for DH at every meal if he didn't want to leave to get food. DH throughly enjoyed the patient snack area they had, no ice cream though :( we were told by our friends that there was ice cream.
  • No date night but amazing Mexican food courtesy of DH. The Mexican food was favorite part of being up in Washington Heights.

    @bkjade where did you deliver?
  • Last night, while we were eating dinner, DS started getting ready to cry. I yelled "No" and DH said "Let me know when that starts working, then I'll use it too".... Smart ass.

@Bltbear82 - Beth Israel. It wasn't our favorite hospital, but it's super close to our place (Williamsburg) and we loved our doc.
  • Guys, I've been wearing my hearing aid pretty much nonstop since I had Emily, so I don't miss hearing her. Especially at night and anytime my husband isn't home (like right now). It hasn't been a worry up to this point, because it has the loudest most annoying sound ever that it sends into my ears when the batteries are getting low.

But now I've started losing sound without any warning at all. It'll just all of a sudden will be super quiet. If I hadn't been awake, I would have no idea about it. It's not a battery problem, more of a wax buildup problem, but it's becoming more frequent and it's freaking me out. This can't keep happening.

I've got an appointment set up with my audiologist (and an ENT, but I can get to the audiologist faster), but in the meantime: I think there were like two of you on here who also wear hearing aids - have you guys ever experienced a frequent wax buildup like this? If so, how do you handle it? I'm currently waiting for DH to get home so he can help me clear out as much as I can with hydrogen peroxide, but I'm not sure what else to do, especially once he goes back to work and I can't expect him to just drop everything to help out.

Really?! It's technically our closest hospital, we are in no mans land over here! I preferred NYU over Columbia this time by far. If we have a third I'll be heading back to NYU even though it's a huge pain to get to from the west side.

Also just FYI hopefully you'll never need it, but NYU has an amazing children's ER so you get faster care than the regular ER.

I'm a little happy they are closing my and obgyn is leaving the practice. I would prefer NYU so it gives me a reason to change doctors.

@Bltbear82 @yogahh - I just heard that too! I hope you were able to snag a private room or at least had a more peaceful stay than I did @yogahh

I've heard nothing but great things about NYU, we'll probably be heading there for the next one since our doc is moving out of the city anyhow :#

And good to know about the ER!

Lol. I saw that earlier. I can't even imagine finding out at birth.
  • I'm feeling some serious sleepy-rage towards my dog right now. For the second day in a row, DS2 has had a prolonged fussy period during DS1's nap (aka my only chance at a brief nap ever, and to do a few non-kid-friendly chores). He's a baby though, so he gets a free pass on not sleeping exactly when his brother does. The issue is once DS2 finally gets to sleep, dogface chooses that exact moment to go beagle-insane on some miniscule thing in the yard and is running around the house and to the front window barking and howling. He woke DS2 up today and woke both boys up yesterday. I just want to lay down for 15min before the evening flurry of activity and being up half the night. Come on, dog! Get with it!
  • @bkjade I'm glad I saw another hospital but seriously NYU and Columbia weren't even comparable. If I hadn't needed a specialist I wouldn't have switched. And I have weird private room magic, I've gotten one both times so I have admittedly had better than average experiences.

@kbrands7 I feel you, right down to the beagle. Except my beagle is getting into the trash and then vomiting all over the one nice, new rug (never the old ones). Hope you manage to get a few minutes of rest!

I haven't in adulthood, but in childhood I did constantly. I just had to go to dr to clean it out routinely. No idea what caused it either!

    Another one.

Has anyone changed their mind yet on how many kids you thought you wanted before having LO?

We wanted two, and at this stage we are not ruling out a second child, but are not as set on it as what we were.
Don't get me wrong, we love LO something fierce, but maybe one will be enough for us.

Was wondering about the other ladies on here? Thoughts?

I also wanted two. I can't imagine being older (and therefore more tired) and doing the newborn stage again. Like you, I'm not ruling it out...but it'll definitely be a couple of years if we do...

Just about everyone I introduce Nora to asks who she is named after.  When I tell them no one they are surprised and say it's a really old name.. I'm not concerned about it because I love it, but just curious if anyone else gets that question a lot when you just picked the name because you liked it.
Nate's middle name is Nathaniel and I've had people say the same thing. I just like the name. LOL

I just did a Target outting. My husband wants me to get out of the house every day since I'm prone to anxiety and depression when I am unable to exercise. I went to Target only needing just a few things, but I left spending over $150. I think I need to find new outings, because a daily Target trip is going to get expensive.

I love seeing how other women handle their kids in stores - especially where they put the car seat.
LOL that is funny about Target.

When I take out my two I wear baby. I can still wear toddler too if needed or place my toddler in a stroller or cart too.

  • Today is going to be one of those days apparently. LO refuses to cooperate with anything unless they're in the K'Tan. On the plus side, at least I was able to have coffee and breakfast and he's now sleeping. But the second I remove him from the wrap he'll scream.

During that week of recovery, I said I was absolutely not doing this again. But-so far, knock on wood- I've got a great, chill baby. So, I'd probably wait til she's at least 2 to start trying again...but I'm up for a third.
  • @LadySamLady we are heading to BK Heights tomorrow night for a wedding and I'm trying to leave our apartment and the kiddos at the last possible second without missing the ceremony. How long do you think it will take in an uber to go from the west side on a summer Friday night? Gps says 27 minutes from the far West Village to Pierrepont. That seems optimistic? I'm already planning to leave the reception ASAP so I don't want to miss the ceremony.

Hmm... Is it during rush hour? It really shouldn't take more than 35 mins unless there is an unusual traffic situation. If I were you I'd check the estimated time in Google maps an hour before and gage it from there.

Yay for events in my hood!

Yep of course, can't wait for rush hour Friday traffic! We live right off the west side highway so at least we can take the tunnel.

The venue is awesome, I just wish I didn't have to leave the boys.
  • Ag you NY girls! Makes me sick hey  One day when I grow up I'll see the city!

Even with rush hour traffic it shouldnt take more than 35 mins from the west village, especially if you're close to the west side hwy. Its the first exit off the bridge!

I love that now that we have a baby. DH will be holding him and I hear a loud fart being let out. DH points to him and gives me the "it was him" look. I'm always skeptical of who it was from though.
My DH automatically blames the baby now for every single suspicious noise! Which is an upgrade for me, since he usually blamed me!!!
  • I was just putting the picture of Pollie from the hospital in a frame and got teary eyed because in only seventeen days she's changed so much already! She's only a few ounces over her birth weight but she looks so little in her hospital picture. Time can start slowing down, she's already growing too fast!

I swear to god nothing involving insurance can just be easy.  My Short-Term Disability got denied - again - because they didn't have the documentation they needed.  Well, when I called them 3 weeks ago all they said was that I would need the hospital to call them so they can recalculate my hours, which was the original hang-up.  So now I have to wait for all that rigmarole to get worked out between the doctor's office and them.

Now tonight I'm trying to initiate a life event to get Baby on DH's insurance, and it won't let me proceed without a SSN.  Which obviously she doesn't have yet at a week old.  FML.

  • @arj14 We got Los SS card in the mail when she was exactly 2w. Hopefully you'll get yours soon.
  • My baby got a small laceration on her face during the c-section. It's almost healed over now, which is fantastic. But at the same time, I'm gonna miss it, because it's how she looked when she was first born. I want time to stop!!
  • I am hiding in my bedroom, working, with baby sleeping next to me. The cleaning lady is here and she constantly wants to ask questions about him and it's getting on my nerves. I just want a clean house - she gets to leave as soon as she's done, so shouldn't feel forced to talk to me!!! I know I sound horrible, but I need my personal space.

    So not baby related...

Watching GMA and Pitbull in on. He scares the bejesus out of me. Like, I can't look at him, he gives me the creeps so badly.

  • My mom has been here helping for a long time now. I'm so appreciative of all the help but I'm ready to have my own space and start figuring out my own routine. I know I seem ungrateful but I just really enjoy having my own space in my own house. The worst is when you have no idea when someone is leaving and there's no nice way to ask.

  • @TXmamatobe We bought my mom a one way ticket out, so we never talked about a when to leave date. After two weeks, I framed it as asking her to stay one more week since my husband was going back to work to help the transition. So in a way, I was asking her to stay while really setting a go home date. Sneaky. :)
