Baby finally went to sleep (almost 2am but baby is napping on my chest so if I move this could all be over). If it isn't over maybe I can get in the shower and DH can get up with baby if baby becomes fussy. Or maybe best case DH will be on duty but both LO's (baby and toddler) will just sleep peacefully and DH will get to rest as well.
@aehogan90 that is the worst-- I'm so sorry. DS has bad gas so I'm up with him, but it's not a night I feel exhausted. Can you switch with DH for an hour or 2?
Sorry to hear ladies I thought I'd get a longer stretch in than 2 hours from LO tonight after feeding her for 45 min right before bed, but then she pooped (which only happens once or twice a day for us, so I can only imagine the poops while feeding that you deal with...!). I'm hoping to get another long feeding in so I can attempt to fall asleep in my bed and not this recliner - but I have a feeling that homegirl would rather be held while sleeping tonight.. Like we do almost every night... The things I said I'd never do just to get some sleep!
Thank you @AliciaD39 and @kbrands7 Its so nice to have a support system. We're making it! Not waking DH up to switch just because he's been so tired and working like a dog. But this weekend, daddy duty is happening
I've been up half the night trying to comfort LO because her gas has been bad today and yesterday. I'm afraid it's the dairy in my diet that's messing with her little tummy which makes me feel extra guilty. She's had.3 poopy diapers since 11 pm but the color and consistency are normal. She screams before and as she goes and will only go while suckling on me. Not eating just latched using me as a paci. Fx for a long daytime nap.

This is us exactly. I feel so bad for her because I can tell she's having bad gas pains, but since she's BF I have no idea what to do for her!

Have you guys with fussy gas babies tried gripe water? It's helping us quite a bit. I'm able to sleep 1-3hour stretches now. Going back on dairy today after 5 days off so we'll see if he reverses...
I think I mentioned this in another post but seriously, look into Happiest Baby on the Block. Another member suggested it to me, and so far, it seems to be working to get some sleep!! There are really good videos on YouTube and the book is an easy three hour read. Worth trying! Since we started this week, Harper has slept through the night, every night. It could just be a fluke but thought I would pass along to you all!

I was going to but then I was reading that it's best to avoid all of that if at all possible. Kellymom said that anything you give them outside of breastmilk can alter their intestinal flora and reduce the benefits of EBF. I don't know how true that is but I was hoping to avoid it if we can find another solution!

I used it last night, and he still stayed up a solid three hours grunting with gas pain.

I gave in and used it once a few nights ago when I couldn't console her for hours. Afterwards she had 2 huge BMs, passed lots of gas, and calmed down enough for me to feed her and such. I don't want to use it everyday though. Today I'm removing dairy from my diet. Hopefully that helps.
So those of you that are removing dairy from your diet, how much are you removing? I've thought about trying that but I know it could take 2 weeks to see if it's helping. I had a friend that had to cut out dairy and soy and I never realized how many things actually have dairy! She couldn't even eat regular bread because it's made with milk protein, or order a steak at a restaurant because they put butter on their grill. So I'm wondering if it would still help to cut out main things like cheese and milk but not have to cut out every single thing that is made with dairy?
One thing about gripe water I literally just learned. It needs refrigerated after opening.. I haven't been doing that! So if you haven't either just a psa. I don't know what in this that gets Harper but she stops crying and passes out the minute I give it to her.

I'm just starting with the basics. Our worst day was one where I had a milkshake and I also noticed more fussiness when I had a cheese tray (I love cheese so that's going to be hard).

I'm dealing with this exact thing! Have you guys tried gripe water or smithecone (sp?) drops? I haven't but I'm wondering if I should. And do I need to check with the ped first?
ETA: whoops didn't see the next page before I posted. Ignore!

Hmm. I might try the big dairy stuff too. DD2 was also VERY fussy after I had a milkshake so I've been avoiding milk and ice cream since.
@aehogan90 Did you eventually get some sleep? I've been up since 10 pm and I've probably Gotten an hour and a half.
Guys, seriously when does this get better?
I maybe slept an hour or 2. Pretty rough. I tried to stay in the recliner. Fed her and woke up soaked because I apparently fell asleep and the bottle was all over the place. Stripped the child down because she had so much milk on her. Guess I won't be sleeping there again. And yes, when does this get better?!
@aehogan90@MsIan "They" say 6/8 weeks. I'm counting them down, although if it's anything like my morning sickness from the first tri when "they" said it gets better by the second, then I'm screwed. I didn't start feeling the 2nd trimester bliss until I was well into it. Hopefully, the 6/8 week mark won't be the same. I'm also counting down until her neck is stronger and she can support herself better to make breastfeeding a bit easier.
For those giving up dairy, a quick PSA- the detection process for checking dairy only checks to 70 parts per million. If it is under 70, the manufacturer does not have to list dairy as an ingredient but does have to say that it "may contain dairy" since they cannot say for sure it has no dairy products in it. Also, as someone who is lactose intolerant and went vegan about a year ago, there's not TONS of really delicious vegan options for "dairy" products in regular stores!
We have been nursing for the last three hours wide awake. Nervous about tonight!
Same... However, I think it's pacifying on our end more than anything. I take her off and she WAILS. Cannot be consoled for the life of her. Tried pacifiers (she hates them typically), only to have them stay in 10 minutes and when it falls out, wailing again. It's going to be a long sleepless night here..
Me too. Baby boy has been constipated all afternoon and is just screaming with stomach pain trying to poop. I feel so bad for him and wish there was something I could do.
I'm 3 weeks PP and I haven't left the house but 2 times maybe. I haven't been able to drive and I'm having serious cabin fever.
That sounds like hell. I go out at least every other day. I hope you're at least getting out for walks!!
I agree! I'm three weeks pp too and if I wasn't going for walks id be going nuts!
Ive been handicapped since the end of March. It ended Monday but still hard to walk. I can't wait until I am fully mobile again. I feel so bad for LO being stuck in the house all day with me

That was my DS but he made a massive diaper. Now he is just wide awake and nursing... He is usually done in 10 minutes but we are in the hour(s) range now.

Oh my gosh! Praying you can enjoy the sunshine with your baby soon
