What I want to know is how your baby goes that long without eating overnight? My LO is 4 weeks tomorrow and still eats every 2 hours overnight. It's killing me slowly!! Is that normal? Anyone else's doing the same thing? She sleeps well in between the feeds so I'm not sure
When she's up she wants to eat and eat and eat! So after the second get up at 3am, she sucks down two bottles like a slob! Harper the hippo!
How much is she getting each bottle?

@ayeshaohara Every baby is a little (or a lot) different with that. My first wanted to eat smaller amounts every two hours for a year. DD2 tanks up at certain points throughout the 24hrs and will usually give me two 3 or 4 hr spacings at night and one cluster. Most often, babies eat more frequently when they're young and will begin to sleep longer stretches by 4-6 months or so.
I'm going to pull my eyelashes out if I have to do this for 4 months every night

We just graduated to 4 ounces. I have no idea what is right or wrong with the feeding, but just testing to see what she takes to.

I feel like my LO isn't getting enough at each feed that's why I asked...we're only just up to 3 ounces the last couple of days. Harper is about 2 weeks right?

11 days. I would think each baby is different in what they can intake? Does your pedi have weigh ins? If you are concerned, I would reach out to see if they have any suggestions. But your LO might only need the 3 ounces.

@ayeshaohara DS2 is 4 weeks tomorrow and goes between 2.5-4 oz depending on the feeding. With DS1 his pediatrician said that the amount is also related to the frequency (give or take for growth spurts and general fluctuations in hunger), so if your lo eats every 2 hours 2 oz is on target, if they eat every 4 hours 4 oz is good. I hope that makes as much sense as it does in my head!

eta: some babies also just prefer more frequent feedings. DS1 wanted 5 oz every 3 hours at 6 months during the day but had been sleeping through the night regularly since 3ish months. He took awhile to stretch out feedings during the day but became an amazing sleeper.
  • Ok thanks guys.

@yogahh I'm not worried about her weight. She gained 2lbs in 2 weeks! I just want her to eat a bit more at once so we don't have to feed so frequently overnight! Basically I want more sleep :D

I have been saying this for years. But yet I had another baby. So I guess I didn't mean it. ;)

  • Pollie fell asleep around 7:30 and then I did around 8. She's still asleep but I'm now wide awake hoping she wakes up to eat soon. I took her out of her basinette as soon as she started making some noises and got all ready to feed but still asleep. Unswaddlded her, moved her around and she's still fast asleep. I should be thankful for a good sleeper but am nervous she's not eating enough even though she has the right amount of wet diapers

I thought Isla was making progress with starting to sleep in small spurts in her pack n play, but the past couple nights have been hell again. She will NOT sleep. Just made a panic purchase of a rock n play on Amazon and I really hope it helps.

Also i complained about this in another thread but my c section incision feels like it's on fire if move while I'm laying down. Otherwise it feels fine but for some reason it is excruciating stinging when I'm in bed and none of my pain meds help.

Does anyone watch shark tank? We're obsessed... Anyways there is s product from the show-zippity zip- that is supposed to help with sleep. It's basically s swaddle. MIL actually knows someone that has it and they swear by it. Might be worth checking out if you lo isn't sleeping..

  • My dad called me at 3:50 asking if he can come over and my mom is texting me saying she wants a divorce. I WISH it was the baby keeping me up instead of these children.

Omg I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine how you're dealing with that drama. Hugs.

Ugh! This makes me frustrated for you because I can only imagine how hard it is on a little amount of sleep. It would be frustrating anyway, let alone with a newborn. So sorry!

Ugh. I'd have to tell them that I have bigger things to deal with at the moment and that they're on their own.

That is awful. I am so sorry.
  • @Jparke2, have you tried binding your incision?  That was the only thing that helped me at night other than basically sleeping in a sitting position. But you're absolutely right, the incision was unreasonably uncomfortable at night for several weeks.

Hope the rock n play works out for you, I'm still attempting to gut it out with the pnp. Some nights we get 3 or 4 hrs between feeds and some nights he never sleeps.

I haven't tried  that since the early days when I first came home , so I'll give it another try! Getting out of bed this morning was terrible, felt like bees stinging me over and over.

And thanks, this rock n play HAS to work. I caved last night and let her sleep in our bed, and it still doesn't feel safe to me so I'm really hoping that we can find another way. I'd be happy with 3 hour increments, or even 2  I guess... just as long as there is some kind of sleeping happening
  • @Jparke2 The RNP took a few days to work for us but now I can't imagine what we would do without it. My LO still wont fall asleep anywhere but on me but once she is asleep I can move her to the RNP and she'll sleep in it for as long as 3.5/4 hours. It's the only place I can put her down. All this to say, don't give up if it doesn't feel like the RNP is helping at first!! GL!!!
  • So can we let them sleep in the RNP at night or not? Everything I read says not to... But I'm struggling with only 1 hour stretches of sleep at a time at night, while he'll sleep for 2-3 hours during the day in the RNP or Mamaroo no problem. Argh I'm slowly losing it.
  • Thanks everyone. It seems to be an ongoing issue but I am trying my best to distance myself from the drama... Just tough when they live 10 minutes away. I'll figure it out though

Thanks! I'll definitely try to remember that tonight :)
  • Corbin has a Snuza clip for his diaper and it had a false alarm. Thankfully it was just a false alarm and did not wake him up. It was just sitting on his stomach wrong. Me on the other hand? Now wide awake. Of course this has to happen when I was finally getting some sleep.

    3:30 am. Baby still clustering.
I really thought this was the last leg of the clustering and baby is all nicely swaddled and in bassinet.
That lasted all of 3 mins. I think I might fix a cup of caffeine for myself or something.
Toddler will be up in 3 hours for the entire day no naps. Husband goes to work until 10:30 pm.
I really want at least an hour of sleep tonight.

I have decided it's easier for me to stay awake from 11/12 - 3/4 when he finally goes to sleep easily. By the time I change his diaper, feed him, and put him back to sleep, it's been about an hour and a half. No point in going to sleep for 30 minutes. It's harder on me than just staying awake. @camillaandcarson I say go for the coffee.
  • I'm so mad at myself! I decided to stay up after DD's last feeding to catch up on some shows thinking she would be awake again in 2ish hours. She slept 4 hours!!!! I missed out on a 4 hour stretch of sleep!
This exact same thing happened to me tonight. Such a bummer! Hopefully he has another long stretch between this and the next feeding.
  • Anyonne else up with their LO right now?
  • @LadySamLady I am! LO had one great stretch of sleep to start the night and I'm trying to give him a big feeding so he sleeps until 7ish (may be wishful thinking)
  • 1. I just want to sleep on my stomach - way too engorged for that biz.
    2. Looks like only two nighttime feelings total!! Dare I say we've dropped one?!?

Kinda late to this but, I get it. My parents live 15 minutes from me and they're the same way. Especially my mom, she's a total drama queen. If it's not creating drama with my dad, then it's with me.
She actually has stupid drama going on with me right now. We're on Day 3 of not talking and I'm so ok with it because I have a real baby to deal with.
  • I really hate wearing a bra to sleep in, even if it's wireless. But unfortunately, I'll leak everywhere without my bra and breast pads. How long is this going to last?!?

I keep falling asleep in the nursery recliner while feeding... The instant I take LO to our bedroom and put her in the RNP, she's up an hour later.. I just want to sleep in the comfort of my own bed and for longer than an hour stretch :(

Me too!!! I've been on the couch for almost a month. It's the worst.

I talked to my friend who has a 6 month old and she said she still is leaking at night.... :-(

I don't quite fit in the group yet but my unborn baby (and all the cervical checks) are keeping me up. I haven't slept at all. The baby is moving SO much and keeps moving away from the monitor so they keep coming in and adjusting it. They asked if I wanted a sleeping pill. Hell no! I would be the one to have a crazy reaction and go galloping down the halls with my ass hanging out of my gown and not even know it.
My baby kept moving away from the monitors too! They were in there every 10 minutes or so fixing it, and they always had trouble finding her again. Then theyd say something like "try to get some sleep, ok?" Like it was odd that I was awake. Helloooooo, you people are in here poking and prodding me and I'm having a BABY! Sleep isnt happening
LO was in a really bad position for monitoring and kept moving tons as well! I started out with the plan to habe an unmedicated birth, which meant 20 minutes of continuous monitoring each hour. However, due to position and movement, the nurse had to manually hold and adjust the monitor. Every time baby changed position and the monitor had to be readjusted restarted the 20 minute check.  My first check ended up taking over 1 1/2 hours.

I think it got better after I had the epidural around hour 8, but it may also have been because I simply didn't care any more.

@artteacher19 DD slept in the rnp for 4 months and now DS. I've had no issues. Do what's best for you and your LO!

    Boooo! That sucks ugh!

  • DS pooped 2x as I was changing him, wide awake with no signs of slowing down. Sigh.
