Randoms - week of May 9th

This morning I woke up and literally felt like I grew over night. H noticed my belly looked bigger, my back was killing me, I was up a lb on the scale (and typically I weigh less in the morning then at night) and even my shoes felt tighter!!! So crazy!

This weekend when H and I were having sex he was acting a little weird right at the end and then after. I asked if everything was ok and he kind of reached out and held my belly and was like "it just felt different". It was hard to get him to elaborate on it more but finally he said it kind of freaked him out knowing our baby girl was right there. It it weird that I found it cute that it's starting to hit him?

  • We still haven't caught the stupid mouse. At this point we are just feeding it, we are barely putting any peanut butter on the traps at all and he is still licking them clean and not setting the trap off. I told DH we should try to reposition them tonight and see if that helps. He is either really small or just really freaking smart. It's driving me crazy!

Oh man, what a sneaky little mouse! I'm guessing he is really small. Maybe try and switch up the food on the trap so he stays longer to check it out.

This could probably be posted in the #whymypregnantselfiscrying thread too, but I'll share here.  Last night DH and I had a corny moment straight out of a movie. Before I share I have to explain that DH and I have some similar taste in music but mostly like to listen to very different music on a regular basis.  We joke all the time about what the baby should "listen" to while she's in my belly.  So last night we were driving home from Mothers Day dinner and actually talking about this when George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" came on in the car, which is a song we both LOVE.  It was so eerie that we were talking about our different tastes in music and at that exact moment a song we both absolutely love and would totally play for the baby came on the radio.  We got home before the song ended and just sat in the car holding hands listening to the song until it ended.  I started tearing up because as excited as I am for baby it made me realize that precious moments like that between the 2 of us are going to be harder to come by in a few months.  I know we will make so many wonderful new memories but my love and appreciation for DH and our time together just the 2 of us is starting to hit me hard and I want to cherish every second.

  • @Lynnlove28, I think I remember hearing a long time ago that putting the PB on a small piece of cheese increases the chance of the trap going off.
  • I hate today so far. I want to go back to bed. Work is stressing me out, MIL is stressing me out, dh is stressing me out, and my drama queen pre-teen dd is stressing me out.
  • I feel like crap today.  Idk what my deal is, but I think I let myself get a little too dehydrated and ate too much crap over the weekend.  I'm being very very unproductive at work. I should probably just take some sick leave and jet out... But I don't have enough to see me through my full 12 week leave so I'll just stay and hope I get better...
  • @lucypod I totally get where you're coming from! DH and I had a long weekend away from DS recently (actually not too recently now! It was right before I found out I was pregnant haha) and I cried a little on our way to pick up DS. I was really excited to see him, but our trip had made me miss the time we used to have, just the two of us. We have DS on a good evening routine now so that we get to eat dinner together every night after he goes to sleep, but I still miss those times when we had long stretches of time to ourselves. We've decided that at least twice a year we will go away just us (even if it's just for one or two nights) so that we can have that special time.

  • I have my GD test this Thursday. I failed my one hour during my last pregnancy, but passed the three hour no problem. I'm really hoping I pass the first test this time though; that three hour one isn't much fun.
  • I have been insanely moody and borderline depressed lately.  I was just chalking it up to pregnancy hormones and considering calling the therapist that helped me with my postpartum issues after DS was born.  Then I happened to be looking into side effects of my progesterone shots for something totally unrelated and saw that moodiness/depression was a known side effect.  Ugh.  If it doesn't stop in the next week or so I'll be calling the therapist but I hate that what will hopefully be keeping this kid in until it's grown to term is also messing with my head!
  • @becca7903 I failed the one hour with my first also and a close friend that's a midwife recommended eating good carbs (not just doughnuts) leading up to the three hour test.  I think the theory is that it levels out your blood sugar.  I just had my 1 hr for this pregnancy a little over a week ago and did this and passed.  It might have just been that I didn't eat a salad and then a cookie just before the glucose test this time, but I still passed!  Good luck!

  • I'm feeling super insecure about my body in the last couple of days. :disappointed:  I know we're supposed to gain weight and it's totally normal to have some swelling and blah blah blah. But I cannot help but feel self-conscious as I approach a "scary" weight. It probably doesn't help that I don't have maternity leggings and the leggings I'm currently wearing make my love handles look HUGE.

  • @1faceinacrowd I've realized that getting maternity clothes or clothes that are more flattering worked wonders for making me pregnant and not just big. I was trying to make the clothes I had work and that just isn't an option anymore, for me. Don't be too hard on yourself!
  • @Lynnlove28  I know, I need to go shopping! I got dresses and summery clothes but it has been too chilly to wear them without leggings underneath (and of course didn't think to get some maternity leggings because, hey, they're stretchy!). I feel like a popped can of biscuits lol.

there may be another thread dedicated to this kind of thing but WTF is up with baby clothing sizes?  My grandmother bought me a ton of one-pieces for baby and they were HUGE!  I forget which brands she got, but I think some were Gerber.  There were a couple of long sleeve sleep-and-play one piece thingies in 6-9 months and we held them up next to my 21-month old nephew and they would have maybe fit him.  So weird.  Any idea what brands are "truest" to size?

Agreed! I put together a shopping list on Amazon for newborn clothing (because I figure if nothing else, I want to have that stuff ready...bigger sizes we can acquire as needed). But as I find items I like and read the reviews, so many of them say that the items were too big for newborns. Especially for the "gowns" that are recommended before the umbilical cord falls off.

It's funny you mention Gerber as being too big, because I keep hearing they run way too small.

I honestly can't remember if the big ones were Gerber, I'd have to check since I'm not at home now.  If there are any mamas out there with "average-size" babies and are in the know, please share!  My SIL is not very helpful since her kid is a peanut and never wore the age-appropriate sizes.

In my experience, Gerber runs really small but DD was a chunky baby. It really depends on your baby's body type, IMO. Things look big now but you'll never really know until the baby is here. Baby clothes are all made so differently it can almost get annoying. DD is in a 2t/3t but whenever people ask what size she is I have to say if it looks like it's made small 3t and if it looks like it's made big 2t.
  • Today is DS1's third birthday. I've never been the type to be sad about him getting older. I've always looked forward to new milestones instead of looking back. But I'm finding myself weepy today, thinking of how fast time has flown.

  • Early in pregnancy, I was SUPER picky about food. Then probably around 14-16 weeks, I liked just about everything again. Now, I think I'm entering the picky stage again. We were traveling over the weekend and I decided I had to have Arby's. DH stopped for me to get it and once I had it, it was just - meh. I was looking forward to all these cravings I hear about, but so far, I usually just get hungry but don't actually want anything.

  • @1faceinacrowd I tend to forgot that it's not 85 degrees everywhere yet. I live in NC so it's gotten up into the 90s one time already. It got down to the 60s a week or so ago and I didn't have much to wear because all of the maternity stuff I have is summery as well.
  • Anyone else entered into the feet swelling phase yet? Maybe it's just because the weather finally warmed up, or because I traveled this weekend and between the airports and sightseeing I was on my feet a ton but... I can tell this swelling is going to be an issue. It started out mostly happening in the afternoons and evenings, but this morning I woke up with puffy feet! I ordered some compression socks and I'll have to start watching my salt a bit more. At the moment I have ONE pair of work-appropriate shoes that fit comfortably.
  • @Snaps816  Yep. every day.  I try to get up and walk, generally get workouts in as often as possible, and keeping my feet up whenever possible (its rarely possible!)  I wear tennis shoes basically every day now.  Business casual/profession just isn't happening...
  • @lucypod - some brands shrink quite a bit once washed.  Babies also start to slim down once they start moving so size differences aren't quite as drastic.  My dd, who is 2, has only gained 4ish lbs since she was 9ish months old.  My dd has been pretty average all along and most clothes fit pretty true to size.  Carter's and gerber would get a little tight toward the end of the months specified but we were never that far off for sizing.  I did tend to stay away from pants that didn't stretch but that was because I used cloth diapers.

Yes! It's pretty much every day now. After we attended a wedding this past Saturday, I just had to soak my feet in cold ice water for 20 minutes. That wasn't enough because I had DH wrap wet cold towel around my feet and legs as he massaged them. Definitely helped and I miraculously avoided the most random yet excruciating leg cramps the next day. It's the worst!

Yes! I also traveled this weekend and I live in the South, so it's quite warm already. I've traveled twice in the past few weeks and had some swelling both times. Shoes are going to be a challenge. When I noticed it this weekend, I was wearing flip flops that are normally a little large on me. If I go any larger, they will be ridiculously long, so I need to find shoes with stretchy straps!

  • @Snaps816  Yep, last week, my toes looked like little vienna sausages. Doing better this week but still somewhat puffy. I need to get in the habit of a evening walk and feet up afterwards routine. Hoping that will help.

  • I'm kinda excited to set up "stations" in my house. I plan on making a postpartum one in our bathroom, a nursing one by the recliner, and a diaper station on one of those wheeling carts from ikea to move from bedroom to living room. I have been pinning ideas for now, but I can't wait to actually check this off the to do list. Anyone else checking things off their to do list?

  • @Mrsrundell  ha! I'd love to! I come from a military family where everything had a place growing up. I love the idea of spreadsheets and labeled pantry and cleaning closets. Luckily my DH likes things organized too, although he is a lot more laid back than I am. Getting everything ready makes me feel less stressed about bringing her home.

@Snaps816 My feet haven't started swelling too bad yet but my fingers are. I can't wear my wedding ring comfortably by the end of the day so I haven't worn it in a few days. I can't believe I'm to this point already. I dread my feet swelling, I'm hoping I can make it to 30 weeks before they start swelling too bad.

@midwestbaby I wish I could set up stations but I know that DD will just destroy them so I'm going to get one of those diaper caddy things to having sitting around.
  • It live in the South and it's so hot down here that I'm already absolutely miserable! I'm jealous of those of you who are talking about it not getting to 85 degrees or more yet. It's been in the 90s for days where I live and humid. I get really sick just being out in that kind of heat for more than 5 minutes. It'll be in the 100s soon, just as I enter my third trimester. I'm not looking forward to that at all.
  • @Lynnlove28 I loved making stations when DS was born and was planning on doing that this time too, but I didn't even think about how he would now destroy them!

  • I was so organized getting ready for my first.  This one, not so much.  I'll be lucky to get the room painted at this rate.  Something about having a toddler makes getting things done a thousand times harder.  I haven't been nearly as sick this pregnancy but I can't seem to get anything done.
  • What is with the drastic change to the look of the bump app?  Now I can't find anything, and frankly I think it us kind if ugly. Maybe I should have saved that for an UO.
  • I really wish nesting would kick in a little bit. I have no motivation to get anything done. We put DD in her toddler bed but we still haven't put the crib back together in LOs room, I have a good bit of clothes I need to wash because they came from a consignment store. I still need to find a dresser and a few other things. I want to get this stuff done before I get huge and uncomfortable but at this rate I'm going to have to force myself to do everything.
  • @Lynnlove28 It sounds like you have a great start! I have been doing one thing each day, big or small. When it's slow at work, I look for things we need and order it online. It saves so much time. Or when I'm out getting groceries, I pick up a few things baby will need too, diapers on sale or meds.

Our city wide garage sale is this weekend and our basement is a disaster and I'm overwhelmed going through all this stuff we moved last year and haven't touched. I told DH last night that whatever doesn't sell is going to goodwill! I'm not only nesting but on a big purge kick.
