@Jparke2 she said I could come in ASAP and it's a good idea to get the baby adjusted, too. She wasn't pushy about it at all, though, that would rub me the wrong way...
Ok good, at least I know he isn't lying haha. It's not that I don't trust that he is skilled at what he does, its just I think he has forgotten that we've discussed it maybe 3 or 4 times and I keep having to reiterate that I am not coming in the day I get released, I will call when I'm comfortable leaving the house. He also recommended bringing the baby in.
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? Scheduled repeat c section
How are you feeling about your delivery? Started out like my first...throwing up on the operating table but then felt great. I feel like this c section was better than my first and I had a great recovery withe my first.
How is your recovery going? Actually very well. Had her at 9:46am monday morning and we were discharged at 2pm on Tuesday. All of the nurses were amazed I was leaving so soon. I felt good and not on pain meds other than motrin. I don't feel like I'll get the baby blues this time around either. I just feel good physically and mentally.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? I just can't wait to poop and get back to normal in that sense.
thanks for your feedback! tiny postpartum rooms are not big enough for toddlers, are they!
Don't know if this is an option for you (and you probably know this bc of your background BUT...) at my hospital they said you can call a few days before you go in (or estimate) and they will leave a note in your file for you to be in a corner recovery room which is typically larger if there is one available. We have a lot of family and friends that will be coming and last time I felt very claustrophobic and HOT. I'm hoping we can get a corner room this time!
Thanks @ doozer1345 ! I do plan to ask for a LDR room for recovery rather than the shower stalls of the pacu after my c-section. I'm not planning on the twins being there for the recovery - it is 2-3hrs at this hospital. I do know that the postpartum rooms are all the same. Not even the Steelers' families get bigger rooms!
great idea for recovery though!
Mama to Three Girls: Twins born March 2014 at 26 weeks due to preterm labor and our 37weeker born May 9th, 2016!
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? Vaginal
How are you feeling about your delivery? I had to let go of a lot of my birth plan. That was difficult for me initially, but I didn't really have a choice. My nurse did an excellent job of maintaining as much of my original plan as possible. For instance, at one point I said, "just give me the epidural, nothing else has gone the way I wanted so who cares!" She helped me remind myself of why I didn't want one and then opened a discussion of other pain management options.
How is your recovery going? Don't hate me, but I feel like it has been pretty easy. Minimal pain and far less bleeding than I expected.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? Not really. We had a good routine going and the last two days it's been turned upside down. Sounds like that's just the way it goes!
edit: have rewritten twice...text keeps disappearing. It is keeping me occupied and awake though!
With so many babies arriving this week, I thought it would be nice to start some more specific threads to talk about how things are going.
When did you deliver?4-25
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? Vaginal. With assist
How are you feeling about your delivery? I'm in the hospital.
How is your recovery going? Poorly.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? Raise your hand if you knew about postpartum preeclampsia. I had no clue. Blood pressure was wow high and swelling looked like i had blown up my feet. One ER visit and two days in hospital later BP down and hoping to discharge today. Not cool body. Not cool.
Got my bellefit binder on today and it's almost comfortable. Such an awesome feeling....I'm sorta amazed at how quickly my belly has bounced back on its own. Last week I thought I was going to have pizza dough belly for months...but I don't think I will. Very happy

I haven't had my babe yet, but you're giving me hope @ayeshaohara. I look at my Bellefit and just shake my head no.

This gives me hope as well. I'm 3 days pp and I tried it on today. Couldn't get it passed my butt.

I did the same thing. I'm going to try it again in a few more days. In the meantime, I have a cheaper wrap-around one to give a bit of extra support so my excess belly doesn't push down/out on my incision.
@cortney626 and @jenly17 I tried mine on the day after I got home and nearly died doing it up. It hurt so bad. I still can't wear it all day. Day before yesterday I did 2 hours. Today I did about 5 hours, so I'm building up. The boning on the side hits my ribs so it's quite uncomfortable. Definitely just work your way up, and if you can't breathe, don't keep it on!!! I thought I had totally wasted my money the first day, now I'm quite enjoying it!
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? C-section
How are you feeling about your delivery? At first bummed that I didn't have the delivery I wanted ( no-epi, vaginal ) but I keep my mind on the fact that baby is here and that's all that matters ( plus hurray for no tearing! )
How is your recovery going? So far, so good! I haven't gone for a walk with baby because I just don't have time yet. Feeding non stop and house chores take up all my time for now. the incision spot is healing nicely they say but I have one spot that feels like a hot stabbing poker is on me when I turn to the right.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? 1) c-section mamas, is your bleeding really mild? I was expecting major gushing and clot grossness but it's been like a mild period. I did not need these massive pads!! 2) is anyone else's c-section spot numb still? I can't feel the area around it.
@kurrant yes, my bleedING is very light this time after the first two days. Sometimes the operating doctor will clean you out pretty well. As far as numbness, I've come across a wide range of experiences. The area above my incision with DS just started getting feeling back after 2yrs (last month for me). This time, the same area feels pins and needley, but not fully numb so I'm hoping to get feeling back sooner. I also had a sore spot last time on my right where they knotted off the sutures.
When did you deliver? April 26 - due date was May 24
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? Vaginal through induction
How are you feeling about your delivery? My epidural worked extremely well and I sort of felt like I cheated because I did not feel any contractions afterwards- they had to tell me when to push. Was a little bummed about that, but with the hell I went through with everything else, I'm glad I didn't put more stress unnecessarily on my body.
How is your recovery going? Going well-- only had minor tearing so it wasn't too bad. However they added BP meds so it dropped my levels and making me feel extremely weak. The most difficult things aren't even delivery related, but results of complications.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? When does bleeding usually stop for vaginal delivery? It's been really light but I am curious. Also, when did you start introducing light exercise back in?
When did you deliver? Yesterday! Ezra was born on May 4th at 8:42pm.
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? I delivered vaginally- pushed for 9 hours!
How are you feeling about your delivery? It was such a crazy experience. I told someone it was like waking up and finding you're on a different planet. Since I chose a natural birth I did have some moments of wanting to be rescued/have an intervention to escape the pain and discomfort but hearing my DH afterwards say "you did it! You had a natural childbirth" was amazing.
How is your recovery going? I feel (literally and figuratively ) swollen shut down there. I had a very small tear so I have some stitches. Also because I was actively pushing for so long my body has some bruises and am definitely sore! It feels like I worked out for 20 hours (which I did!).
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? im sure other STM's have talked about this on other threads, but how long did it take for your belly to go back to basically pre pregnancy size? I lost about 10 pounds from being pregnant to giving birth and my belly definitely has gone down. I wanna know a bit of what to expect from my body.
I've been trying some of the BF positions people have suggested and after and hour of trying I can cross side lying off my list...my f-g boobs are not working with this. It hurts and she can't get a good latch. The few she got were lost within a minute. ( I should also mention I have large nipples and areolas as well so she never gets it all in there...barely even half on a good latch. ) Next I'm going to try the lay back... My question is...how back? Am I laying down all the way or just leaning very far back?
@kurrant I never laid down all the way with DS until he was a few months older; especially recovering from the cs it'll likely be easier/more comfortable to just recline back a bit. (Even then, have assistance available b/c if you go too far back holding baby, you could have difficulty getting back up.)

Me three!!! Worst idea ever. This gives me hope to try again in a few days.
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? Ended up in c section after failed induction
How are you feeling about your delivery? It was best for me and baby at the time so am determined to try not to feel too bad about it being opposite to the grand plan! Couldn't have asked for better medical team
How is your recovery going? It's going well but I find it hard to relax into it, i am a multitask er and find it hard not being able to do more than one thing at once...
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? I had issues breastfeeding and after baby weight loss and having to go back to hospital I have moved to formula and expressing. Had all the help but baby was early and latch was not good, again best for both of us to get his weight on and let us both relax. Admire all you mommas working through this

Hah Yeah, side lying can be trickier with big boobs. You might give it another try when the dust settles and you guys have nursing established. It's so nice to rest while baby nurses. I agree with kbrands, just recline a little bit. There are no hard and fast rules; sit back however you feel most comfortable. The only "rule" with laid back positioning is that baby's lying on her tummy on you.
My hormones are driving me nuts. I've noticed my sense of humor has changed. Stuff I've seen on TV a million times and never laughed at before is suddenly funny. I feel ragey and cry over stupid stuff at times.
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? unplanned c- section
How are you feeling about your delivery? Not what I wanted at all but I have no regrets. Baby had his cord wrapped around him 3 times. Just glad everyone is happy and safe.
How is your recovery going? I've literally never had any surgery before in my life so this is huge to me. DH has been a huge help and has been telling me I've been doing great but I feel so helpless sometimes. I've gotten up a few times and walked down the hall once so far. Mostly have been trying to take it as easy as you can with a newborn.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group?
@dsmith211, one piece of advice I received in my csection class surrounded taking your first shower post surgery. The instructor noted that csection mommas have frequently collapsed during their first shower because the fatigue of suddenly standing for a longer period of time sneaks up on them. She told DH to stay in the bathroom with me, but I was feeling so strong that I booted him out. I remember thinking that won't happen to me, but sure enough, her words were ringing in my head when I had to yell for a nurse to help me while showering on Day 2. Not trying to scare you or saying it will happen, but hoping you'll benefit from my own stubbornness.
Take care of yourself and make sure DH is watching you while you putter the hallway. Don't feel helpess, it will get easier everytime you walk the hallway!
@lbachran did they not have a chair in the shower at your hospital? They had me sit in one to shower. I didn't have a c-section, but they were watching me extra because of high blood loss and high heart rate.
@lalala2004, nope, no chair. Shower was so small that I was literally touching all sides the entire time I showered. I was supposed to be placed in a larger room for csection mommas which would have included a bench in the shower, but several women ended up having emergency csections, so I got bumped. They were having problems regulating my bp after the spinal (it kept getting very low) so that may have contributed as well.
Fairly good I guess, now. It could have gone a lot worse, so I'm just grateful for my experience. Had a pretty traumatic episode with an attempt at an epidural. My ob was cranking my pitocin up by 10 every 20 min after I had the foley get me to a 6 overnight and after they broke my waters and I made it up to 39 when I asked if they could slow down the increase so I could go pain med free (due to allergies). I labored with peaking contractions one after the other for 4 hours before they said I wasn't progressing past an 8 due to my inability to relax any longer. I asked for an epidural in order to try to relax and allow for a vaginal delivery but they had to make me a special bag of meds since typical epidurals have morphine in the bag and I'm severely allergic to all things narcotic. The anesthesiologist came in and placed it and an epidural became a spinal on accident. He pushed the tester meds and my entire body went numb, face, chest, arms, legs, everything. I was choking on my vomit because I couldn't feel it trying to come up, I couldn't breathe because I couldn't feel my chest. They had a crash cart waiting outside the door for me. Thankfully my amazing labor and delivery nurse had this same thing happen to her when delivering her first baby and she got me through it, thank God. The meds wore off in a matter of 30 min and from there they just pushed a super small amount of anesthesia into my spinal but it wasn't doing anything. They couldn't give me any more because we risked having what happened earlier happen again. They'd push a small bit, it would take a little edge off but I could still feel my contractions and my legs and everything else. I wasn't progressing past an 8/9 and 80% effacement and my ob told me it was going to be the worst time of my life but I had one last chance at pushing this baby out before she wheeled me in for csection under general anesthesia. She manually stretched me to a 10 and I told them when I felt each contraction coming and I pushed for my dear life. 45 minutes later baby was here and I'm so grateful that with all the flipping trauma, my ob was on my side enough to give me the chance to get this baby out how I wanted. Baby has been jaundice-y for the past two days so we haven't been able to get discharged, and we just want to go home. The nursery has really been pushing supplementing with formula even though I'm getting plenty of colostrum to baby and have even been able to pump a good quarter size amount after each feeding to give to her with a syringe. She is currently getting her weight and bilirubin tested and we are waiting to see if she makes the cut to finally go home today.
How is your recovery going?
Recovery is a walk in the park! I pooped 2 hours after delivery like it was nothing. Peeing took a little creativity but is going along great and my downstairs are sore but nothing I can't handle.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group?
@ncm0328 yikes that sounds frightening! I'm so glad you got to deliver how you wanted to in the end and that recovery is going well!
Being completely numb gives me such anxiety that when I had my csection this time, they left the sedative out of my spinal so that I was just tingly all over rather than heavy-numb. I experienced that I-can't-feel-myself-breathing/coughing/choking sensation with my first and it was awful. I can't imagine adding face numbness to it as well.
I'm sorry your birth was so traumatic @ncm0328 , but I'm amazed your OB let you go through with the vaginal birth you wanted! I'm also amazed you pooped so soon! TMI alert: My first postpartum poo was a pretty big deal after days of taking Colace, and it took way too long to get it to flush.... I won't say anymore about that!
@kbrands7 it was seriously the scariest thing ever. I couldn't even talk, my nurse was standing right by me and saw me choking and unable to breathe and she really stepped up. So glad your experience this time was better!
@lalala2004 I even surprised myself with that poop! I was not expecting it; glad yours has come and gone as well. As for my ob, so so grateful, she's amazing.
I had my first postpartum poop two days after Ezra was born. I was so worried but I had done what the midwives said and eaten lots of fiber and had a ton of water and it really was totally fine. The pressure before the poop is still stressful and since I'm swollen, have some postpartum hemorrhoids, and two stitches for a first degree tear, I mostly just dab clean and then take a sitz bath to make sure I'm REALLY clean. cant wait till my lady parts are back to normal!
@araecasey We are still struggling with breast feeding. The baby latches great and will stay on feeding but will sometimes get sleepy. My pediatrician let us try no supplements for two days and he lost too much weight. He had started regaining and then went back down putting him at a 11% loss. I'm back to supplementing after feeding. I'm pumping after each feed but very little if anything comes out. I had his latch evaluated many times at the hospital and even by his pediatrician and it looks good. It seems like something isn't right with my supply.
@mcb2016 I'm sorry to hear that his weight gain is still iffy. Proud of you that you're chugging along trying to work through it!!! I have a couple of thoughts. 1) Please take whatever your ped says about breastfeeding with a grain of salt. Peds receive a teensy weensy amount of education about breastfeeding; many times the peds who give advice about breastfeeding are sharing what they know from breastfeeding their own children, but are NOT qualified to evaluate latch/supply/etc. 2) Baby's getting sleepy during feeds. What have you tried to keep him awake? Have you tried breast compressions? 3) Have you considered meeting with an IBCLC to do a weighted feed? An IBCLC can evaluate if baby is nursing well and can troubleshoot if needed. Sometimes a latch looks good, but could use tweaking for best milk transfer. I'm specifically wondering if your little one needs to be looked at for a tongue tie. I have another thought, but I don't want to bombard you and overwhelm you. Let me know what you think about the above and we'll go from there. Hang in there, mama! The beginning is full of unknowns and can feel so unsteady. I think you're doing great, and I think we can get to the bottom of what's going on!
Is it bad if my baby sleeps during latching? My guy will often fall asleep during a latch but he'll keep nursing- sort of a few suckles, then sleeping for about 30 seconds, then some more suckles. It takes longer (usually 20-30 minutes) but when he pops off he usually sleeps for a lot longer (as long as three hours!)

Have you been to the pediatrician yet? My LO does the same thing but because she is gaining weight really well my pediatrician told me that whatever we are doing is the right thing. If she wasn't gaining, it might be a different story.
Thanks guys! We haven't been to the pediatrician yet but the lactation consultant did his two day check today and said he was 7 lbs 14 oz (he was 8 lbs 2 at birth) and since he had plenty of wet and poopy diapers he was probably getting enough.
Anyone have experience with a jaundiced LO? Having all the emotions about it all. I haven't slept and I feel so sad that I can't pick her up while she's under the lights. She hates it and just screams. And I just sit there and try to soothe her but it really doesn't do much. My emotions are everywhere.
