@PsychOfAKnit I do! I made a baby hat a few months ago for my friend's baby and that was super easy and quick! I have the time so I really should give the sweaters a shot! They're just SO CUTE and we're going to have autumn babies who need adorable sweaters
I love all of your projects so far! You are definitely giving me inspiration. I need to get my sewing machine fixed. I bought fabric to make myself some maternity tops for summer. I might try to crochet or knit a baby hat once we find out the gender. I have never successfully crocheted anything and have never knitted. My great grandmother gave me all her knitting needles but I have never been brave enough to try a project after my crochet failure. I would love to make some sweaters but that seems so advanced. I have been wanting to get mermaid tail blankets for my girls. Maybe I could attempt it?
I had planned on crocheting a blanket and now that we know the sex, I know what I'm doing. I just got the yarn today so I haven't started it yet but it's going to look very similar to this with gray instead of navy blue and probably a matching beanie.
And for for those that say you're not crafty enough, psshhh. I don't have a crafty bone in my body. I learned everything from the University of Youtube after spending a ridiculous amount on Etsy for crocheted items last pregnancy.
So I made the Sunnyside cardigan (I'll post pictures when I weave in the ends, add buttons, and block it)... but it's for size 3-6mo. So it's too big for a newborn. So I started working on the puerperium cardigan: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/puerperium-cardigan
von1976 (or anyone else for that matter) please help me understand sweaters without sleeves? We get donations of tons of them year round and every time I just look at them like... a knit t-shirt? I don't knit (or crochet) and so I don't know is this a fashion thing? is it really hard to make sleeves? I just don't get it.
@kmolleltz For children or adults? For babies it makes sense because you want to keep them warm but not overheat them in the warmer months (fall, spring). For adults, I honestly can't tell you. Sleeves are a pain, but they're really not that hard. Gloves are a bigger pain in the ass.
The sweater I linked to is written for sleeves, but you can make them as long or as short as you want. Some people chose short sleeves.

Can't stop laughing about this I think it's a combination fashion (in the British not-actually-fashionable sense) and practicality, because you always have to roll up baby sleeves but I like your ideas better
Also, do any of you talented ladies have a tried and true baby blanket pattern for a beginner crocheter? I have only made hats but would love to try a blanket
Here's the finished Sunnyside Cardi and a matching beanie. We're team green, so I figured this could work for either sex. The colorway is Tree Frog, it's a KnitPicks superwash merino sock yarn I bought a good five years ago when I was doing a lot of socks!
I'm about to sew a quilt and a couple cloth diapers to see how it goes. I've bought a supply of a few already, but if the few I sew work out, then I'm going to sew the rest. We'll see though
I started needle felting a mobile last night because we decided on woodland nursery theme... This is literally the first thing I've made doing this new craft:) so be kind
@books&icecream Chevron, granny square and striped blankets are all easy. Search on ravelry or pinterest to see if any of them catches your eye. I think stripes of varied thickness can be especially nice if you find a good color combination. Chevron is all the rage, and granny square (when the blanket is one big granny square) is easy but variable. If you can crochet hats, a blanket won't be a problem. Just remember when turning, always turn your work in the same direction
Started my baby blanket yesterday. There's a few flaws that are bugging the crap out of me! The one edge looks so ratty because I'm not good at switching colors. Lol. But I'm happy with it so far
@LGW2015 Looks like the Chevron Baby Blanket. The pattern is very simple and it knits up quick. I made one too, just haven't posted because I haven't weaved in the ends and blocked it yet! Maybe next week...
@LGW2015 Thanks!! Like @von1976 said, it's very easy and quick. I started yesterday and I'm almost half done. That second link that Von posted is the actual pattern, but the blog post I found it in showed a couple different color ideas. That's where I stole mine from. There's also a video at the bottom with a tutorial that was a helpful refresher for me. Here's the link for that:
Something I didn't think about when I was crafting for my first child (and that I was reminded of when I looked up the recommended yarn in the chevron blanket pattern) - washable yarn is your friend when it comes to crafting for baby. I bought this great fingering weight yarn to make my son some cardigans. I didn't think and ended up with a bunch of hand wash yarn. I did make him three cardigans anyway. One I shrunk in the wash (I really just wanted to see how much it would shrink. Turns out, a lot). The other two he wore until they got dirty. I hand washed them and he never wore them again because hand washing clothing when you have an infant is a pain. I'm not a huge fan of acrylic yarn (it tends to be too scratchy for me), but I've had some luck with pima cotton and acrylic mixes. I'm probably the only one who hadn't thought of this, but I just wanted to put it out there just in case.
Finished my blanket and made a hat to go with it. I also made a headband...and a pumpkin hat. I seriously can't stop. I don't a have a picture of the headband or pumpkin hat but I'll link it. All the Oct babies need a pumpkin hat!
Thanks to everyone here and their amazing ideas, I just blew $38.09 on Amazon for some crafting supplies. I'm gonna attempt my hand at crocheting a baby blanket, a baby beanie and a pumpkin beanie, because @kelliott09 is correct.... All Oct babies need pumpkin beanies!
Gonna try and make this one. *TRY* being the operative word here. I haven't picked up my crochet needles since 6th grade. Wish me luck!
