PLEASE help with a short, strong girl name!

Some people enjoy picking out names... not me!!! I feel like this baby girl of ours will never have a name because I guess I'm picky. I don't even know where to start. It took forever to pick our son's name (which is Coleman Thomas.. we call him Cole), and we didn't even think about girl names the first time around.

PLEASE help me start getting the name ball rolling. Here is the dilemma... I prefer short, somewhat unique names (1 syllable would be ideal), NOT ending in "ee" or "uh"... which I have discovered almost all girl names end in  :/

Example: Love the name Bryn. But can't use it, it's already in our family. Others we have entertained.. Maeve (DH veto'd) and Emme (sounds strange with our last name).

Hoping this board can help! I still have 6 months left, but I feel like this is going to be an impossible feat!

That said, I think the single syllable rule is really limiting you. Ithink you should consider expanding it.

Expanding to just two syllables gets you so many more options.

The only other one syllable names I can think of that haven't been mentioned are Sloan, Reese, and Rae. I agree with PP that you should expand to 2 syllables, especially since your son has 2.
  • Options
I agree there are great options at even two syllables and it's still a short name

    Paige
Claire but Cara/Clara/Carla are all better with just that extra syllable
    Ruth

But so many options for short with two syllables

    Cara
    Ada
    Edith
    Elise
    Luna
    Mona
    Lucy
    Nora
    Nina
    Hannah
    alice
    Isla
    Olive
    Flora

Lots of good options. Adding Maren and Brenna ( I know you don't like -a endings but it's similar to Brynn).

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I do agree I may have to go with 2 syllable. I wish there were some options mentioned that I loved but there are not :( This poor baby girl!! But I seriously do appreciate the help.

Honestly my first thoughts were "WTF is Bevin" and "sure, tell her right from birth that being a girl isn't good enough,  she should have been a man".

@Bringmemylongswordho haha I love your honestly, and very good points!

Although I sort of look at girls with boy names as "what, I'm good enough to have a boy name, why wouldn't I be!" But yeah. DH didn't love that name either ;)

Love them both but last name starts with D (hate double letters) and we have a Quinn (boy) in the immediate family. Ugh!

I know a little girl named Evan and it's very cute and fitting on her. Bevin I would not do, unless you plan on using the NN Bev.

    Could also add:

    Liv

We have very similar tastes! Our DD is Eloise, but we always call her "Lu." Our list for girls is Mae, Nelle, Neve, and Brynn (but Brynn doesn't work for you). You could also use a longer name with a one syllable nickname like we did. DH also likes Jane and June.
FYI: I don't understand how to change my profile information. It just keeps telling me "User Not Found." Any help is appreciated. Grrrrr

If you like boys names on girls, you could also consider a longer female name with a "male" nn, ie
    Samantha nn Sam
    Alexandra nn Alex
    Danielle nn Dani
    Christine nn Chris

Sam. It is a guilty pleasure girl name of mine I guess. And I grew up watching Bewitched reruns so it has always struck me as a strong, feminine name.

I think we have similar tastes (I don't like very girly, "A" ending names and like a short strong name)
On my short list, but didn't make the cut

    Kate
    Brooke
    Paige
    Erin

We are going with Harper though as it is the only name we both could agree on.

Good luck! Baby naming is so stressful if you don't have a name you LOVE.

Thank you all... We are making some progress. DH and I discovered we actually both like Elise... So it's now I'm the running. Glad we have finally found one we both like but I'm hoping to find others, too.

I also like Reese lately but he's not sure about it..

    Thoughts on Elise and Reece?

Elise is great! Coleman and Elise are nice together. Not a big fan of Reece/Reese.
