Re: 3rd Tri/Labor Impending Symptoms **Updated**

  • I really had hoped to not have swelling and had done well until today. Tonight I have full blown cankles and my feet are like three sizes larger than usual

  • So what is considered high blood pressure? Or how high is too high? My feet are so swollen that you can see the marks from my flip flop straps. I never had swelling in any of my other pregnancies. I just went to Walmart to the machine and my BP was 140/100

That's high. Normal is 120/80...probably worth getting checked out

For pre-e anything over 140/90 is cause for concern. However there are a lot of factors that play into this as well. Were you walking around shopping before you sat down to take your bp? My swelling is in my entire legs, ankles, my feet are so puffed up that I feel the skin stretched tight and they go numb...I moved past the simple marks from sandals weeks ago. I've had high bp and they've been watching me for pre-e due to protein in urine and other symptoms as well but what has kept them from inducing me to this point is the fact that after I'm relaxing, sitting, with both feet flat on the ground for at least 5 min before testing my bp it's under that 140/90 and it typically is. My bp before getting pregnant was never over 115/80 It's prob still worth bringing it up to your ob just to be on the safe side.
  • I parked right up front and walked in, the BP machine is up front. The swelling started last night, it's my feet, ankles, and up to my mid shin. The skin is very tight-it feels like the day after you get a bad sunburn, warm and tight. It came on pretty suddenly. Also, my BP hasn't ever been high, pregnant or not. Monday at my appointment it was 120/80 and I didn't have swelling then

I would say it is worth getting a work-up done.  I hope it's nothing serious!  How many weeks are you?
I don't like that your systolic was 100, provided the machine was correctly calibrated.

Yeah, the bottom number being 100 is the most concerning. I would definitely call your doctor since pre-e can develop very suddenly. They may have you rest and check it again in a few hours or they may want you to go in for monitoring. With DD I had some isolated high BP readings, but when my BP went up to 150/100 and stayed up for a few hours I was admitted to the hospital. I don't want to scare you, but pre-e is not something you should put off.
  • Thanks ladies! I have never had to deal with high BP, so I really know nothing about it. I am going to out the big kids on the bus and have it checked at CVS and see what it is. If it's still high I will put a call in to my Dr.

Just for correctness sake, her diastolic (bottom number) was 100...and I agree, much too high. Needs to get checked

Oh my god...I think it's happened to me...I think I have the varicose veins in my vagina. Actually I have no idea what's going on but from those of you who described it earlier I can only presume that's what it is. So weird!!!! Kinda like a hemorrhoid in your vag right? Except doesn't hurt...
Oh girl. I am sorry if it is vericose veins down there. I know the struggle. Although in my experience they are pretty painful just with baby's head being engaged

No pain just a big bulge. Thankfully baby's head isn't engaged yet and won't have a chance because induction being started tonight! Won't have to deal with any of this too much longer...just a ripped vagina instead!
  • Pretty sure I'm retaining water in the bottom of my belly as well. The past week or so the bottom of my stomach has been really sensitive and jiggly and I know it's not because the baby has shifted positions, baby is head down and locked and loaded. I was telling somebody this and they said it's probably just more fluid retention but since my legs, ankles, feet, and face can't take anymore it can go to your stomach. WTF. I feel pretty, oh so pretty!

I had irregular contractions all evening and all night, my stomach stayed hard as a rock throughout the night... this morning it is somewhat better but have had a few more since being at work. Also two episodes of what feels like tiny leaks... when I go to the bathroom to check its a very minimal wet spot each time. I don't think anything to be concerned about yet... just not the most pleasant thing to deal with at work.
  • My boobs starting hurting SO bad last night! And they were leaking all over the place. Not cool...

I'd get it checked out. Those are actually the same numbers that initiated the lab work they wanted to do on me last week to make sure I wasn't pre-eclamptic. I ended up being fine in that respect, but my BP's are still coming up high and they just have me monitor it at home now on top of at appointments since I am capable of getting my BP down to 120/80s when I chill a little bit. At this point they're ruling mine as a combo of white coat syndrome (of course, bc now I'm constantly worrying about what they're going to say about my BP) and normal pregnancy hypertension. They'll probably just want to make sure you don't have protein in your urine and maybe do some blood work to make sure you and baby are doing OK. :)

the debilitating heartburn is back...it was nice to have mini break from it when LO dropped. I am also poo-ing like a giant bear in the woods.
Me too on the pooping front. Never been so often in my life!

Omg! I just laughed for about 5 mins straight. Thank you.
  • My blood pressure was slightly high at this appointment, 34 weeks 5 days, so was sent for lab work and then have to follow up Monday to make sure there aren't any pre eclampsia symptoms. Nothing to really send your blood pressure racing like hearing that.
  • Contractions since this morning, no dilation, LO is engaged, full moon tonight, DH hasn't slept well, and my doctor is going out of town this weekend...Yep. I'm assuming it's going to happen. I hope not.
That's exciting!!! I think there's going to be a lot of us having babies this weekend!
  • I just wanna complain to someone other that my fella for a minute.

Im super over puking everyday (hasn't stopped since I became pregnant) especially the 3 am puke sessions. Yup. Over it. I'm becoming annoyed with the small amount of symptoms I do have of labour without having the important ones! Been losing MP, having some mild lower back cramping (nothing rhythmic about it at all), lightning crotch so bad I can hardly walk!, heart burn so bad I'm wondering if I'm part dragon, but I have yet to have any contractions. Including Braxton hicks. I'm 38 weeks and 2 days. And as far as I can tell no contractions of any sort (with the exception of one day two weeks ago where I had tummy cramping on and off all day but it was so irratic that I doubt it was anything other than gas.)

im half tempted to go in to L&D and ask an NST just to see if I am having contractions or Braxton hicks and just not feeling them. LO is sitting super low and even though I'm still 12 days from my due date I would just love some sign that the end is near!

    Okay I'm done complaining now.
  • Anyone have pregnancy induced sleep apnea? I'm assuming that's what this is... I will lay down and next thing I know I'm gasping for
breath because I started holding my breath not realizing it. It's been going on last few days... Freaking scary

Sort of. I assumed I was losing my breath bc she adjusts and lays right on my lungs. I also noticed at night my nose is getting stuffy so it's an awful mix. I'll shoot up in bed gasping. I took Benedryl last night to see if it would help and it did.

Might be. I've got sleep apnea not pregnant so I have to use a cpap machine at night. I obviously don't notice a difference for this reason...if you're able, make sure you're propped up at night using a few pillows. It's not very comfortable, but at this point in the game I don't think any of use are sleeping comfortably, what's a little more discomfort?!

I've had this a few times, I wake up and can't breathe. It's scared the crap out of the first few times
  • I seriously deserve the klutz of the year award...I had slipped and fell back at 27 weeks because of some snow on the tile at work. L&D trip. At almost 36 weeks, ended up in L&D because of contractions every 2 min which were due to my uterus being irritated by stomach flu I was coming down with. Last week (37 weeks), I tripped just walking back to my car...fell on the side of my belly. Another trip to L&D. Well tonight, I was just putting some stuff away and was going in the basement with something in my arms...I missed a step, fell on both my knees right on the landing. Well I'll let you guess where I'm at again...it's becoming a bit of a joke. We actually brought the nurses some chocolate this time (DH works for Cadbury and had just come home with a stash of chocolates and cookies). He had told me last week he just wanted me to sit on the couch, eat cookies and get fat so I don't risk falling. Anyway, neither of us are impressed with myself at the moment. At this point, we're thinking they should just induce me...probably safest for both me and baby (obviously we want him to stay in there as long as possible). Thankfully though, baby seems to be doing fine in there. I'm having some contractions, but I don't think they're regular/long enough for anything at this point. The nurse just freaked DH out telling him I wasn't allowed any drink or food, just in case I ended up needing an emergency c-section and it'd be dangerous I aspirate while under anesthesia (he was going out to get himself something and asked if he could get me anything). So I'll be spending the next few hours getting monitored... Likely not coming out of here with a baby in my arms though. Anyone else a ridiculous klutz? This is so not me- as a reference, I would normally be able to run in snow with high heels...
  • @KidShrink oh my!! Sounds like you need to wear some body armor! I'm happy that you are ok though! I can't say I've been falling- but I sure as hell have been dropping EVERYTHING everywhere- so let's just say a lot of things have broken and needed to be replaced over the past 9 months LOL
  • I can't cross my legs or my arms. Miserable.
