Ahaha! Love it! ETA: obviously I am completely honoured and had no time to work on a speech. I'd like to thank my friends here at TB and the Google machine for making it all happen.

This is a sensitive topic for me. In my 20s I had a white, female coworker that was gay. For years, she struggled with accepting her own sexuality so she denied it because she was afraid of what others would say. Meanwhile, she'd go around saying, " gay is the new black." Once she introduced me to her girlfriend (now her wife ) it all clicked. But I was mad because I'm black every day. You may be gay every day, but you decide when you want others to know it; I am not provided the luxury of "revealing" my blackness when it's convenient for me. We are friends to this day, but that has always rubbed me wrong.
Just to clarify, when someone uses the phrase "xx is the new black", that's a fashion implication right? Like its the new in and acceptable thing-kind of like the go to black dress. I'm an ass-hat if that's not where it originated. Sorry if that's off topic, was just curious. I'm also staying completely out of the debate for the record!

@Winnie81 usually yes (regarding fashion), but some people will say things like this thinking they are being funny or cheeky or something. I work with a chick who does this same kind of thing. Ugh. It's the pistachio idiot if anyone remember those stories.

@Bringmemylongswordho , this is the last time I will address your ignorant ass bullshit. But I can guarantee, you have never come close to experiencing what my family has gone through over the last few years. Cast your judgement somewhere else.
I mean I feel like that's a pretty ballsy statement. A lot of us have been through a lot of shit.
I will amend my statement......99.9% of you have not gone through what my family has gone through. There is probably someone, somewhere out there that had experienced the degree of devastation we have.
Wow. I mean, wowwwwwww
Now let me tell YOU how you haven't experienced the same pain, devastation as me!!
Is what I would say if I was 12, which I am not.
Life is not a competition. You don't get to decide if someone's experiences are worthy of pain and anguish. That's not your call.
