I don't get the idea of intentionally planning to call a child by their middle name. Why wouldn't you just make that the baby's first name?
My brother in law has a not-used first name. In his case, my in laws realized at the last minute that his initials would be ASS. Instead of thinking of a new middle name they just switched the first and middle names. But I agree with you in most cases.
Maybe not unpopular here but unpopular in my group of mom friends. I don't get the need for kid-free friend time. If I get to be kid-free for a few hours, I'd much rather be alone or with my DH.

My ex went by his MN. It was a family thing; FN name is the dad's name. MN is the name you go by. So if we had stuck it out (urg) and had kids (double urg), our sons FN name would have been my ex's MN, and he would have gone by his own MN. Why they did this, I have no idea.

This is, thankfully, not unpopular among my friends. We hangout with children in tow and it's no problem.

We do too but they all want to have kid-free time together too and I just don't get it.

I must be having massive baby brain, because that makes absolutely no sense to me at all!
I really shouldn't talk, though because in MH's family, there is a confusing tradition that the son is named after the grandfather, so through the generations, it alternates between Lorenzo/Renzo and Dominic. I thought it was interesting that my ILs waited until their 3rd son to continue the tradition (his name is Dominic) and my son is the 2nd male grandchild so I was surprised that my BIL didn't name his son Lorenzo or Renzo first. But, as it turns out, they name the 1st blue-eyed son after the grandfather (the first Dominic like 7 generations back had blue eyes). MH and son both are the only blue-eyed boys on that side of the family (other than my FIL, named Renzo). It is weird because MH and I had planned to name our son Renzo regardless of eye color, but when MH's Nonna first met our son, she was so happy he had blue eyes like her 5th son (my FIL, Renzo), her husband (MH's grandfather, Dominic), and his father before him (MH's great-grandfather named Lorenzo).
@laurenmdrn16 That's an uncomfortably specific tradition. Geez. DH's family has a very loose tradition of using the grandfather's or great-grandfather's first name somewhere in the name, but they are open to variations and such. No one would have been angry if we hadn't continued it. We did however, because we both really liked DH's grandfather's first name, and DH was incredibly close to his grandfather.
^ what?!?
ETA: So if your son did not have blue eyes, would they have expected you to name him something else?
I have no idea. We were using that name regardless, but I guess it was a happy coincidence that he happened to have blue eyes. There are a lot of weird superstitions and traditions in the family and I am just only starting to figure some of them out. That is the #1 reason I am not telling anyone this baby girl's name!
I really can't stand Jennifer Lawrence. I think she is highly overrated and her acting is the same in all of her movies.
Oh and Bradley Cooper looks one of those dinosaurs with feathers.
It kind of pains me to say this, but I agree. I LOVED her and now she is getting on my damn nerves! But I feel like there are only a handful of actors who can truly transform for each role.
Also, I know this girl who could be Bradley Coopers twin so everytime I see him...it's get creeped out.
I kind of think Steve Avery from Making a Murderer is guilty.
OMG can we please talk about this? I agree with you. When I finished the documentary, I waffled back and forth. Since then I've read a few things about the case that the documentary left out and now I'm leaning towards guilty.
I have new years resolutioners at the gym. Who are you trying to fool? We all know in 2-3 months you'll be back on your couch stuffing your face with junk food. I can't stand how they are always using, or just sitting on, the equipment that the regulars need to use!

See I am the opposite. I know how awkward it is going to the gym for the first time (or first time in a long time). I am glad to see them there trying. I know that it will die down in a couple of months and I am proud of them for at least giving it an effort.

This is one of the reasons why we turned part of our garage into an at-home gym. We only ever used the treadmill and free-weights/bench/squat rack and I got tired of the newbie cycle. Plus, now I can't fit time in to go to the gym outside of my home anyway, so it worked out better long-term to have the things we use in the house.

This used to bother me and so did slow walkers on treadmills, but I've changed my attitude on that. They are making an effort and hopefully they like the environment and they can stick with it. The extra congestion at the gym is an inconvenience when you're not used to it, but everyone started somewhere.

I hate reality tv in general, and things like The Bachelor in specific because I think they trade on stereotypes of women/men that mostly dehumanize women and makes me want to scream. The only kind of reality tv shows I like are things like The Great British Bake Off and those HGTV shows about finding/building/decorating your perfect house. Oh, also, I honestly think that reality tv is killing good scripted shows, too.
@AdorkablePixie Selfie time. More like in 2 weeks they'll be thinning out of the gym. It's funny how a lot of people go for supersize junk after a workout, cause they earned it working up a 5 minute sweat.

I agree that everyone starts somewhere. When people were making an honest effort, it didn't bother me, but people who would just stand around in the way, or people who would sit and talk on the benches in the free-weight room frustrated me when DH and I belonged to a gym.

Really over the people who post the same selfie everyday on facebook and instagram. Its like seriously you look the same as yesterday. I know selfies are all the rage but enough already.

I hate the regs in our gym even more. They have NO gym etiquette. For example, they slam weights, leave plates on machines, leave barbells on the floor to trip over. We are changing to a better (ie, more expensive) gym in the spring (that has daycare!!) because of it. The "management" does nothing to improve it, or to tell people to put their weights away. More often than not, I have not been able to use a machine because some douche left 8 45 pound plates on it, and I refuse to strip it for them. Newbies, while annoying, normally at least stick to the cardio machines or have a trainer, so they usually aren't the issue for me.
Combining the selfie and gym etiquette conversations... I just switched gyms and they recently instated a "no selfie" policy because people were taking too many pictures flexing in the mirrors, etc. I love it and it definitely makes me lol. However, I have taken a bump pic in the bathroom, but I was the only one in there and it just went on TB, so I'm saying I get a free pass.
I kind of think Steve Avery from Making a Murderer is guilty.

Same! After learning some new details (no spoilers ppl don't worry) it just seems so much more likely and obvious that of course he did it. I do think the investigation was shitty and they should have looked into other suspects, but I just really think he's probably guilty. All the petitions on FB annoy me because I feel like no one is actually thinking for themselves. They just take the documentarians perspective at face value with no thoughtful contemplation or analysis of their own. I think Adnan from serial is totally guilty too, no question about that one in my mind.

It's just annoying to me because most of them never stick around. A lot of them don't take the time to learn the equipment and end of breaking things. And I've noticed the new people at our apartment gym don't even bother to clean the equipment when they are done which is disgusting.

@LemmyRN YES!!! The other day someone came in the gym with a large soda from 7-11. Are you kidding me? Ugh. And the selfies.. so annoying. I walked in the locker room the other day and this rather large woman was taking a selfie. She was in the gym "working out" for literally 15 minutes. Don't get me wrong, 15 minutes is better than nothing but still. I feel like some people only do it to take selfies and post online. lol

Like the woman who was sitting on the stationary bike I wanted to use yesterday just face-timing with someone for 20 minutes... People who are actually serious about it and trying to make me mad, it's the people who come in and fool around, don't clean stuff, break stuff, etc that make me angry.
