Thanksgiving Fun

Re: Thanksgiving Fun

  • @imrachellea good luck! We were there in Sept and NEVER again! We're going back in Jan and I hope it's cold. I need a break from the humidity. PM if you want some meal suggestions! We go 2-3 times a year with DS.

  • @Goldsgirl9 I've been several times with my family growing up and DH I went for my birthday/Mother's Day in May. We were thinking of getting season passes, but DH ruled it out because he said how many times would we ACTUALY get to go with a new baby...probably very true! So we have this trip, and then one more planned for February, super excited to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge!

  • Catching up:

Day 8: I'm thankful for our apartment. Neither space nor affordability will be an issue when baby comes, and the neighborhood is great for kids. I'm super glad both to have a roof over my head and no pressure to move while I'm pregnant or with a new little one.

Day 9: I'm thankful for my coworkers. I work in an all-female department, which I've heard can be breeding grounds for drama; here, it isn't. Even when I don't love my job, I'm fortunate enough to really enjoy all the people I work with most closely. Looking forward to eventually someday getting to do happy hour with them again!
  • @imrachellea best hotel by far! We love it. We're staying at Bay Lake in Jan for a change but Animal Kingdom Resort is our go to. We have the passes but not sure if we'll renew in Feb due to lo. I can't see myself taking a baby less than a yr old.
  • Day 9: I'm thankful that my parents finally got an offer on their old house that they've had on the market since June!
  • Day 10: thankful for my mother. She may drive me cray but she has helped us a ton and I couldn't imagine not having her around.

Day 10: I'm thankful my nephew is actually doing really well in kindergarten after a horrible year of VPK with a teacher who hated him. (All E's and S's!!!)
Edit: Wanted to brag on his grades for this report card)
  • Day 10: I'm thankful for modern medicine. Without it, I would likely not have a child survive infancy as I'm a group B strep carrier, with an active infection that flared during delivery of DD. I'm thankful also for modern medicine that has healed family members of cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

  • Day 1... I'm a little late to the party. I'm crazy thankful for an employer that allows me to work from him 100% of the time. Major props to you ladies who have to tackle morning sickness AND manage to get yourself to an office every day.
  • Day 10: thankful for snacks. I can't eat a full meal any more and would be losing a lot of weight if it weren't for snacks, since everything sounds disgusting after about 4 PM.
  • Day 10: I'm thankful that I actually feel like I slept well for once! And to celebrate I'm gonna pick up an extra shift at work tonight! Because baby stuff is expensive. :(
  • Day 11: I'm thankful for every person who has served in our military. Without the sacrifices you've made we wouldn't have the freedoms we have.
  • Day 11: This will probably be a common thanks today, but I'm thankful for our current servicemen and women, those who were lost serving, and our veterans. I'm thankful to not know what it's like too lose a family member that way, though both my grandfathers were veterans as is my cousin. Thankful for their sacrifices so I can live free and raise my daughters in a free country.

  • @AmadorRose I am also thankful for you and your husband's service, and any other bumpies who serve or are spouses of those who do!

  • @imrachellea thank you...I'll probably spend the day bringing sandwiches and chips to all the homeless vets in the area. Maybe some cigarettes as well. I'm not an advocate for smoking, but I started during deployment and it's hard to quit; I can't imagine how shitty it is to worry about food and shelter whilst being nicotine deprived. They're the ones who really need thanks - as crappy as the VA is, they are loads better at helping our generation than generations past. The American public has -thankfully - realized that treating vets the way Vietnam survivors were treated doesn't help anyone and many have become advocates for returning service members.

I believe @mechekitty is also current military and @NachosAndPeaches husband is a vet. I know I'm forgetting some but those two come to mind.

Also just realized how ranty my post was today, so sorry for that. I was bawling reading the article about her and I guess it translated over.

It didn't read as ranty to me at all! She's clearly someone who has touched your life in a positive way, and you're hurting over her current condition.
  • @Knottie9983816 I originally wrote "the world needs more people like this and fewer fucking cat memes" but had the foresight to edit myself before posting. And I'm generally an asshole so I like to be proactive - 99% of what I say that's taken offensively isn't meant to be offensive.
  • @AmadorRose I'm pretty sure everyone on this board thinks I'm a horrible bitch so I can relate... Also yes we really do need more people like her. But we also need more people like you who will go give food to homeless vets, and cigarettes because you're thoughtful.
  • Day 11: Thankful for our veterans and active duty! Words cannot express my gratitude.
  • Day 11: I'm just gonna say "ditto" to everything everyone else has said about veterans and people in active duty.
  • Day 11: Today is a tow-fer. Thankful for all who have served and are currently serving this country. Also thankful we saw a healthy16w baby today at our sonogram. Every appt makes me feel like I can breathe just a little bit easier.
  • @Goldsgirl9 yay for happy, healthy babies!
  • @AmadorRose I have friends who never left US soil, and friends who have done multiple tours over seas. You get a lot of great benefits because your job could require the sacrifice of your life at any given time.

I definitely appreciate you calling out other professions that you admire! My future MIL is a teacher, and she loves her kids! She feels the same way about when people randomly find out what she does and make a huge deal over it. She always states all the reasons why her job is worthwhile, and down plays how hard she works. I firmly believe that doing something you love that works out in your favor, is the best gift you could ever give yourself!
  • Day 12: I'm thankful I pretty much set my own hours and don't have to be awake before 9 more than one day a week. (Obvi this'll change when LO gets here... Ugh) The only awesome thing about being homeschooled was living on second shift. I hate mornings...
  • Day 12: I'm thankful for random days off and getting to have a date with DH yesterday, as our days off don't usually match up.
  • Day 12: I am thankful for full panel maternity pants... this low panel nonsense I'm wearing today is putting unnecessary pressure on my bladder.
  • Day 12: Today i'm thankful that all of my behavior problem students were having good days! I'm so grateful that they are all in one class, as well. That way, if they're having issues (any of them or all of them!) its contained to one of my 6 class periods rather than throughout the day. And today, they were all in great moods! Makes for a really enjoyable rest of the day (they are my first class) :)

  • Playing catch-up again:

Day 10: Thankful for my husband's new job! He's genuinely so much happier there than he was at his last company; it's great to see him coming home feeling energized instead of drained. He was always such a trooper despite being constantly stressed, and I'm so happy that he finally doesn't have to power through the misery anymore!
Day 11: Thankful to live somewhere where I have easy access to multiple grocery stores, with good selections and affordable prices. Also grateful to have the money in my bank account to buy good, nourishing food for my family without having to worry about whether I'll still be able to pay other bills.
Day 12: I'm thankful for all those annoying side effects of pregnancy (the sleeplessness, the bad dreams, the food aversions, the constant congestion), because they reassure me that she's still in there, doing okay, even though I can't see her or feel her. Mostly, though, I'm grateful for that strong healthy heartbeat at this morning's appointment!
  • @AGK2015 Omg I'm so pregnant your post brought me happy tears! So blessed to be exposed to such positivity today and you finding the silver lining in all those situations!

Day 12: I'm thankful that the snow we got yesterday didnt stick. I'm so not ready for that business yet.
  • Day 13: I'm thankful for somewhat more tolerable weather yesterday. I wasn't drenched in sweat from the house to the car, and this November, I'd consider that a win!
  • Day 13: thankful for every day that my car turns over and gets me to work. I'm really trying to hold off on buying another until January so I won't have quite so many payment to make and DH will be a bit more stable.
  • Day 12: Thankful for my OB. He is incredibly sensitive to me being nervous after multiple losses and I have an ultrasound every appointment not because of the losses but because he wants me to relax.

Day 13: Thankful for my fur babies especially my 8 month old 97lb puppy. He's bigger than we anticipated but he's a gentle giant that adores my son and the feeling is very mutual.
  • Day 13: Today I am thankful I get to see my husband!! Been nice having our Cal King to myself all week, but nothing beats him by my side!
  • Day 14: Thankful to wake up today knowing myself and my family safe today. I can't imagine what the French are experiencing today. Praying for Paris and its residents.
  • Day 14: I'm thankful to my friends for caring for me when my family turned their backs.
