@jesshrou @cait7425 The situation finally stayed in the diaper yesterday! I've been much more attuned to how the diaper is fitting these past few weeks and I think her little legs were still just a little too small for the openings. I'll keep doing what I'm doing but I do want to check the pampers (not swaddlers) for overnight. She will pee through a Luvs if she sleeps through the night resulting in a change of sheets!

  • @mellymar thank you, I just might get that one.
  • @alcrimmins so glad you got that solved. It's such a pain to deal with blowouts every day

Yeah little legs are not my LO's problem lol. He's almost 15 pounds at 13 weeks!

Does anyone know of a noise maker that responds to the baby making noise? I've heard they are super helpful when they start stirring at night to help calm them back down.

  • is there a 14 week growth spurt? these past couple days this kid is driving me mental. wouldnt nap for more than 7 minutes, would cry instantly when i put him down and waking up like 5 times to eat instead of his usual 2.
  • I'm giving my Daughter a little walker toy. One that she can play with sitting and eventually use to help stand and walk (not the kind you sit in). I loved all the fisher price toys for my sons. I might buy something similar for LO. There's a cute tea set one. I still have the song from the work bench one that my boys played with.

A few stupid questions from me:

Do the babies at this stage actually engage at all with a book? I haven't read any to her even though she has 100000 books to read..

Has anyone got a ridiculous sweet tooth? I could quite happily go and live in willy wonkas factory.

What do you intend to call your kids genitals? I have every intention to call her vagina a vagina but a lot of people find this confronting. I remember reading about a little girl who kept telling her teachers her brother kept touching her cupcake and it took months to work out.

How do you plan on teaching your children that there body is there's and if anyone touches them they tell you? A once off conversation? Weekly?

  • @mishmardhiono

I do read to LO. I don't really notice he has a favorite, but he does like to look at the pictures.

Sweet tooth is out of control. Don't know if it's the breast feeding or if I became a sugar addict during pregnancy.

    I plan on saying penis.

I don't know about weekly but we will have the conversation more than once.

Reading to your baby at this little helps with language development. I've been reading since week 1. He is 14 weeks and likes to touch the pages and look at the pages. His attention lasts one short book.

I always have a sweet tooth.

His genital will be called a penis.

You can tell them in the bath or getting dressed "only mommy and daddy and doctors can see your private parts. No one else." But I don't plan to say that until he's much older (3/4) and I'm not going to say that every time.
  • I've missed having a place to direct my questions. lol now that i'm back at work, you ladies are stuck with me again.

My FFFQ... my girl is teething so her hands are ALWAYS in her mouth. How do i keep her hands warm when they're always all damp and clammy!? I'm enjoying having some cool autumn air in the house but i feel guilty when her little hands are always frozen! I already packed all her infant mittens away after she was like 2 months old. I think she'd just soak through those any way.

I'm sure there's no good answer for this question. I guess i just needed to rant about her cold, drooly fingers lol
I don't have an answer, but we have this issue AND a cat, so LO always has gross wet hands covered in cat hair that she then put in her mouth. I expect hairballs soon. I would try mittens except she would freak out, she has been a finger chewer since Day 1 - although getting worse with the teething now.
  • Our pediatrician told us at his 1 month appointment to read because it encourages language. I read to him a good bit and he seems to enjoy it. He's a little jabber jaws and talks a lot.

We're calling his penis exactly that. I'm not sure when/how often we'll discuss, I honestly haven't thought about that.
  • @Mommaswizz same issue over here. I actually just posted about it the other day. Her hands freeze at night, but her body is warm. Mittens don't work for us because she will either chew them or she throws them off. I have been putting her in something warm and longer sleeved at night. Her long sleeved sleep sack is big on her, so I just pull the sleeves to cover her hands. This way she can still chew them, but they can stay partially covered. During the day her hands aren't that cold. I just think that when she sleeps her body goes dormant lol.

@mishmardhiono I read to LO during the day and DH does for her bedtime routine. I agree with the others about it helping develop language. We went to our first baby and me class at the library. The librarian read and we sang along with the song versions of the books. She also made it interactive where she would ask questions along. Like what color are his shoes? How many fish? Even if they can't answer, you are still conversing with them.

I eat ice cream every day.

Vagina will be vagina when she can talk. I like the idea of discussing during bath time.
  • @Cait7425 yessss i fee so bad when i feed her at night and her hands are little icicles.

@hoodoll82 our dog loooooooooves to lick our girl's face and wet hands. It's an endless cycle of applauding the dog for being gentle and loving the baby but begging her to leave the baby alone so she can dry off lol
  • is there a 14 week growth spurt? these past couple days this kid is driving me mental. wouldnt nap for more than 7 minutes, would cry instantly when i put him down and waking up like 5 times to eat instead of his usual 2.

There is a leap that is supposed to start at 14.5weeks. It hit our house HARD. We are on the upswing though now at 16 weeks and have been sleeping much better. Hopefully this goes quickly for you.
  • @alcrimmins I don't know about you, but I feel like DD is in between sizes. The ones barely cover her butt crack and the twos don't close tightly around her legs. So far the Luvs have only had a little seepage out of the leg. Poo goes right up her back with the earths best. Tomorrow is pampers.
Yes! LO is 13+ pounds. The 1's are getting tight at the waist while the 2's have blow-out inducing gaps around the legs :(  The other day, he was hanging out in his carseat while I showered. When I picked it up, there was a puddle of poo on the floor!  And all over the innards of the carseat. Ick.

  • have any of you given your LOs water or juice? My LO doesn't poop every day and I feel like it bothers her. Her pediatrician in Philly said its normal if she doesn't go every day, some kids just don't. But if I feel like she's hurting or uncomfortable to give her a little bit of water or juice. I'd give her water before giving her juice but Im curious if any of you have given your LOs water yet?

We have BM issues...she doesn't necessarily have constipation bc they are soft but it's only once a week. And she gets uncomfortable for a few hours. We do an ounce of prune/apple juice with an ounce of water/formula/breastmilk. Our ped said to do this everyday
  • @mvargas12 we have a similar issue. My peditrician said 2 to 3 poops in a week were fine and basically no other suggestions. Just to call if it was longer than a week. I know one other mama in my group does give laxatives to her baby but I hope it doesn't come to that.

@laurendutch does it help her go or does it just help relieve discomfort?

@rklinge0 do you guys do anything for it or do you just let it be?

ETA: I gave her water MAYBE 5 minutes ago and she already pooped. Water for the win.
  • @valeriemarie24, we have the Fisher-Price Precious Planet 2-in-1 Projection Mobile.  LO seems to really like it.  My DH uses it sometimes to calm her down during the day.

I think it gives her fiber? I don't think it really works too well.
  • My LO loves when we read to him. He starts jabbering away.

Our lactation consultant said that while common for babies to only poop a few times a week it technically is better if they go daily. We started him on probiotic and he goes almost every day now, every other day at the longest
  • Sorry for the long post because of quotes, but otherwise I would've forgotten what the hell I was talking about

I read an adult level book to LO every night before bed. Its just the book I've been reading for myself. There is nothing for him to interact with because its on my e-reader, but right before bed I don't think I want him 'interacting' anyway. I have also heard that it helps yo develop language skills because it forces you to use words you wouldn't normally in real life. I haven't tried a children's / baby book for a little while, I need to do that again and see how he does. He didn't care last time I tried but now that he's in the middle of this Events leap he might be more aware of the patterns and images and stuff.

    Mega sweet tooth

I plan on calling his penis a penis. I've been thinking about how to discuss this, too. Maybe once they are at the point where we are playing 'name that' game (which will probably be during bath time or when changing) - you know what I mean, point to your arm, they say arm, point to your toe, they say toe - I will begin to introduce the idea of only mom and dad and doctors can touch you there. Not every time, but often enough it won't seem out of place in the game. I realize this may weird some people out as he may randomly point at peoples privates and enthusiastically say 'Penis!' but I'll just deal with that as I go. Maybe once we've established the no touch part of the game, I can begin to work on social graces. I dunno, I'm probably just going to wing it

@Mommaswizz - I have no answers for you, my little dudes hands get cold too, but I'm transitioning out of the swaddle so there's nothing for it but to deal, I guess. I do try to frequently dry his hands with his spitty blanket and 'wash' his hands, usually before bed, with a wet washcloth. But I wanted to say I missed you lots and I'm glad you're back. How 'bout them Mets?

  • @mvargas12 we don't do anything about it. We just wait it out and she always poops before a week. I know not much help for what may work.
I am probably one of the few that was told not to feed food until after 6 months; because her gi tract can be a little under-developed( we haven't done x rays to check that out). So that could be the reason she didn't want us to add anything else.
  • Does anyone have any good mobile recommendations? Ours has Winnie the Pooh characters and my LO loves to look up at them, but it only plays for 2-3 minutes, and I can't always keep winding it back up. I'm looking for one that plays for a little bit longer.

Side note...I was going to get one of those sound machines someone else mentioned, but DD doesn't like things at the side of her crib, she loves to look straight up.

We went onto Amazon and found a push button mobile music box (just the music box) instead of the one you wind. You have to turn it off, but I found it SO much better than having to re-wind the mobile and disturbing LO up with the clicking
  • LO needs a lovey. I can get him to put himself to sleep very easily if I put a soft blanket in with him. He holds it to his face and sucks on his fingers, and doesn't fight sleep. But obviously that's not safe if I'm not right there.

If like something he can have in his crib with him so he can sled soothe in the night, too.

    Ideas? Impossible?
  • @virginiaunicorn11 at this stage I feel a light blanket is fine. My LO is approaching 5 months and I feel comfortable leaving her with a lovey. It's a soft like 8in by 8in blanket with a bunny head. Sometimes she puts it over her face. I'm confident she won't suffocate.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.

Could you get a similar textured fitted bed sheet for him to feel?

Equally unsafe, but target has these little teddy bears by carter's that are the perfect size for little hands to grab. My LO loves holding it in her car seat. The only benefit is that it would be hard for the teddy to actually cover her face.
  • @virginiaunicorn11 do you have a video monitor? When I leave lo with her little blanky I keep the video on so I can watch her while she's asleep. Only for nap time though when I'm awake. She hasn't slept with it in a while because we went back to swaddling so she probably slept with it for a few weeks around 3 months old and never put it over her face.
  • @virginiaunicorn11 just like @dancegurl1118 , my LO also has a lovey except mine is a duck. She puts it up to her face but she is pretty good about getting it away from her face when she doesn't want it there anymore
  • Thanks, ladies, all good ideas. I forgot we have a bunny similar to what @dancegurl1118 describes. I will try that!

We do not have a video monitor, just a sound one. I tend to go into his room when the sounds stop, and take the blanket away.

Now that we got the mattress sorted, my new thing is believing a lovey would help him go back to sleep on his own =)) [-O<
  • CC is able to turn her sound soother (we call it the magic box or tv) on and off in her crib. She turns it on when she needs it in place of a lovey. She does use the taggies square blanket thingy in her carseat as a lovey though.

One of the things the babes are learning in this leap is how to pull things down and away from their face, slowly at first. I let CC play with hers in the car seat b/c it's pretty supervised and she's great about playing peek a boo with it.
  • How do ya'll clean out your lo's belly buttons? LO has a pretty shallow innie, but it's always full of fuzz and I don't know how to clean it out without hurting him.

I just wipe a washcloth over it while she's in the tub...maybe there is more lint in there than I realize and I'm not getting it all?? :))
