So we had (mostly) settled on Elliott (nn Eli) Carter for our son, but Rowan was my 1st choice name and I feel kinda stuck on naming him Rowan instead of Elliott.. My husband picked the name Eli (it was the only name he came up with) and Elliott was on my baby name list... and his mom didn't like Rowan and I feel like he hasn't liked it anymore since then. I think if I pushed more, he'd let me name him Rowan, but I don't want him to not like the name.. What do I do? settle for the one we mostly agreed on? or push for the one I like?
Wow, I can't believe there were so many girls with typically male names. Its funny that you brought this up since we JUST talked about this last night after seeing Star Wars. We love that Ray is a strong female character who can kick ass, but why give her a typically male name? Can't she be feminine AND strong?
Male names on girls is kind of a pet peeve for both of us....
It all worked out though since we found out yesterday we are having a boy, so James it is!
Absolutely agree on the seeming disconnect between "feminine" names and strength. I do still like androgynous names, though, because they go a little ways to destabilize gender norms. As would names like Leslie, Meredith, Julian, or Ariel for a boy.
We're also having a boy, and I really really wanted to name him Jude or Jules or Julian, but DH vetoed them all because baby would get made fun of. So now we're at John, which I actually kind of hate. I am trying to get used to it, but it just doesn't sound like a little boy's name.
FWIW, I had never thought of Rey as a boy's name, because my grandmother, Rachel, was always "Rae." She wasn't a very nice lady, so we don't want to use her name, which is a shame because I do actually love it!
I guess I will participate now lol... it was 100% going to be Lincoln for a boy, buuut we are having a girl.
I love the name Cordelia nn Cora. DH doesn't. I don't seem to really like much else.
I'll have to thoroughly look through all the girl suggestions in this thread!
Are you more attached to the nn Cora? Because you could do Coraline or just Cora as her name.
No, I would actually call her Cordelia. I just know my family would need a nn option lol
Nickname her Delia!!!!!!!!! I love Cordelia as a name, and the two Cordelias I've known have gone by Cordie and Delia for short. I love Delia:)

We are actually!! It's funny these comments are all quoted together because she will be Cordelia Rae. If people want to call her by a nn, I'm suggesting Delia. & Rae is actually my middle name
@kami09 I love Rae! This baby will be Cora Raelynn. My mom's middle name is Rae. My middle name is Raeanne. So I'm biased!
Our little boy is going to be named Elias Lincoln. Once we found out he was a he it seemed surprisingly easy to pick the name. I was pretty shocked though to see the list the other day of the up and coming names for 2016 and saw Elias as number 8... I was like what the heck, most people I tell his name to say they never heard that name or haven't heard it used in years... Hoping it won't be popular in the south. I'm going to blame Michael Buble who "stole" my name and thus probably making it popular... Lol!
We've finally settled on Henry Weston. The idea for Henry came from the book The Time Traveler's Wife, and DH really wanted a classic name. Weston is a combo of inspiration from our love of road tripping out west, Westley from Princess Bride and photographer Edward Weston. Whew!! Anyone else already calling the baby by name??
@artteacher19 I'm glad I'm not the only one who named/is naming a kid after a character who died in a book! Lol. My son is Garrett- from Nicholas Sparks' Message in a Bottle. I always felt weird telling people that lol
Now that I think of it,I first saw Cordelia in a book where the character is also thought to have died in the end. Woops.
