Re: RTT

  • I'm guilty of not reading the books. I really want to but I'm going to be so sad when they are over. I'm saving them for when I need to be entertained for a long period of time
  • Loading the player...
  • Now I want to reread the entire series and the last book. As if I need any more reason To do nothing. My house sucks right now. This weekend. I will clean. I swear.
  • I haven't seen or read any HP and I'm a HUGE book nerd. And I love YA. I'm waiting to enjoy it with my kids! Decided this in high school!

I can't wait until my kids are old enough that I can read these aloud with them!!

  • @vvitchhazel what are some of your faves? I'm always looking for new recommendations.
  • I reread the whole HP series while DH was deployed last year but now after seeing everyone's posts I might have to reread them again before baby comes so he/she can absorb some of the awesome

So I realize that you guys maybe like me but this might change your opinion of me....

I have zero interest in HP. Don't want to read the books, don't wanna see the movie. I just don't care.

    That and LOTR.

Ya, just nope. Sorry to let you down.

ETA: maybe I should've saved that for my FFFC!

Anybody see the golden compass with Nicole Kidman? I picked up the series. "His Dark Materials" The movie turned me onto it. I have been procrastinating the ending because I'm scared it will be bad. Hahaha Edit: ughhhh type like an adult!
  • Love HP, when DH and I were dating I made home do a whole marathon. Recently he asked me to do it again! So excited. I can't wait to read them to my babies!!!

Lol it's okay we all don't have to like the same things!
I have no interest in lord of the rings. I had to read it in high school and I read 3 pages and took the zero for the summer assignment lol

I am not a LOTR fan either. Barely seen scenes of the movies. Definitely have never watched one in its entirety. Tried to read the Hobbit and couldn't do it. Yeah probably should have saved the HP thing for FFFC ;)

Ive never read LOTR and I've always said I really dislike fantasy or sci fi books but I loved Harry Potter. Maybe because they were written for kids??

Hahahahaha you would! I went to the premiere for the first Twilight movie. Those were good books. Films tarnished the feeling for me, slightly.
  • I've always loved young adult fantasy fiction. The name I've had chosen for a daughter is from a series I read in 5th grade and I've known since then I want to name a girl that. I've got lists of books if anyone wants ideas on series to read.

Yes! Last movie was a mind F though...

Maybe I am a fan of fantasy books...

The first step is admitting you have a "problem" lmao. They're good!
  • I think I'm a secret geek. Harry Potter, LOTR, The Hobbit, Twilight.... Maybe it's not a secret.

This, minus twilight. I read the books once. Tried to watch the first movie. Lost all interest. I've read much better vampire books (not exactly ones that are considered safe for work, though ;) )
  • Vampires legitimately scare the crap out of me. Everyone's like omg spiders, snakes *other rational real life fears* and I've pulled my covers up to my chin since goosebump days.

I don't know if my recommendations are any good. I'm terrible because I love almost anything I read! I really dig the dystopian future or supernatural YA books. I really love the Mortal Instruments series and everything in that universe. So bummed when I learned they weren't doing a sequel to the movie, but I hear there is talk of a TV series, so that makes me happy! My SO got me a book called Darkest Part of the Forest for my birthday and I loved it. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was great and there's a sequel too, but I haven't read it yet. I liked Lauren Oliver's Delirium series and Ally Condie's Matched series, because dystopian futures are my thing. The Forest of Hands and Teeth series was a neat take on zombies. Same goes for This is Not a Test, which also has a sequel that I haven't gotten around to yet. One of my very favorite YA series was Daughter of Smoke and Bone. There are so many more! Those were just off the top of my head. I'm fast approaching 30, but I can't get enough of these books intended for the younger generation!

  • We have another fucking special snowflake. I tried to be nice.
  • @vvitchhazel ahhhh Mortal Instruments. The movie was good too!!!! I'm telling you - "his dark materials" series. Watch the golden compass first if you are skeptical.

I LOVE vampire books! Twilight was so dopey, even though it holds a special place in my heart... But there are so many good vampire books out there! I just finished the Discovery of Witches series and I have the HUGEST raging lady boner crush on one of the vampires. Omg, gimme more Gallowglass! And the author is a historian and I honestly fear that she won't put out more books and it devastates me!

  • I'm a big chicken I can't do anything remotely scary...Harry potter pushes it but Iove it
  • And another guess the gender post!? X(
  • I can do scary just vampires freak me out. I haven't perused the teen section of b&n recently but I'm always tempted. I make myself go look at the adult fiction.
  • @vvitchhazel anything by tamora pierce (she's my favorite), there's about a dozen series she's written and most of them are in the same world and have strong women as the lead character
    Fablehaven
Percy Jackson series and the follow up series
    hunger games
    the underland chronicles
  • B&N is so expensive, can't handle it! I'm obsessed with HPB (and I just applied for a job there and I will legit cry if I don't get hired). Right now I live next door to the library, so that has been SO awesome!

Aw man, Ive been on this kick about finding all the Fear Street books from when I was a kid and giving them to DD when she gets older (aaaaaaaaaaand maybe re-reading them before hand for fun.) I could NOT get enough of those when I was younger. Oh man, nostalgia.

  • My recommendations for shorter fantasy books: Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children (pretty sure this is in the works to become a movie), anything by Niel Gaiman especially especially The Ocean at the End of the Lane (author of Coraline), the Sand Omnibus Series, anything by Gregory Maguire (he puts twists on classic fairy tales and stories).

Neil gaiman stardust! Fantastic book and fantastic movie (loosely based on the book but both excellent if you take them separately).

Oh my god, YES! I had all of them, but lost them due to flooding a few years back. Cried for days!

  • Yes. Harry Potter. I need to reread the series (for like the millionth time) again.

Also: Fear Street. YES. I still have a couple… and I kept all my Goosebumps books for the kiddo.

  • @indibidule Thanks! I do have the Percy Jackson's and follow ups, I just haven't gotten around to them yet! Haven't heard of the others (Hunger Games aside, obv! LOVE!) so I'll have to check out those! I also really like Divergent and Insurgent, but I refuse to read Allegiant, because someone spoiled a big thing that happens and I'm NOT happy about it!
