  • Haha! My baby shower was in March and I just got my thank you notes in the mail last week. I have pretty laid back friends and family though, so I don't think they mind. I'm just impressed I got them done at all.

I live in the south. You send out thank you notes! I remember the gifts I've never received thank yous for. I wrote a thank you note to my own mother.

  • I'm from the West coast and at least in my family, we never sent out thank you notes unless for a wedding/shower. However, I live in the Rocky Mtns and at least in DHs family, they send out thank you cards to everyone. And they mail them, even if it's my in laws who I see at least weekly.
  • @laurendutch which state do you live in? I thought I might be the only one from Colorado on here, so when you said Rocky Mountains I got excited.
  • So I'm at the drs office today to speak with someone about my 'feelings' post baby (its a more detailed PPD screen). So I'm waiting to check in (the place here is in the hospital, *everything* is in the hospital, so there is one check in desk for radiology, oncology, regular drs clinic, behavioral therapy) and this guy ahead of me finishes checking in and turns around and tells me to 'smile, it doesn't cost anything'. Its a super sweet gesture, and I'm grateful. I do smile. But I'm tired and just blah, and fade back into my mind and the smile slips. So he tells me again. And starts to talk to me about 'verbal hugs' and I dunno what else, and repeats the line about it not costing anything. Repeats it a couple of times.

Thanks dude, it was nice and I appreciated it, but now you're effing badgering me and its making me even more aware of how crappy I am feeling. Shove off

  • @virginiaunicorn11 I love the story about LO great grandmother. From what I've heard, when you name your baby after a departed loved one they will hold baby's soul on the other side before they are born. We named our LO after her great grandmother, and I find comfort in that maybe she too will get my grandmas gusto, drive, and resilience.

    Eta: spelling

We named LO's middle name after my grandpa who passed away 3 years suddenly. We didn't tell anyone the name until he was born. Everyone was quite emotional (happy tears of course) now our LO has started mending that hole that everyone had.

Also I didn't believe in reincarnation until LO came along. He has the same connection with my grandma like pp have mentioned.
  • My mother taught me you write thank you notes for EVERYTHING. My MIL is southern and she writes us thank you notes for having her over for dinner! Writing thank you notes for gifts 4 days postpartum while my anal felt like it was coming out of my body was awesome. Why can't I send an email?

All these stories brought tears to my eyes as well. So sweet. My mom passed away and I love the idea of a loved one holding the baby's soul. We didn't name LO after my mom, but if we'd had a girl we would have. He has so much spunk already though, just like she did. I like the thought of her having him before he got to us!
  • Brooke is growing out of everything!!

Utah...so the Wasatch part of the Rockies :) just easier for people to get a reference of where I live without being specific

Two thoughts/questions: bought the seventh generation free and clear diapers BC they were on sale. They are size one which is supposed to cover 8-14lbs, LO IS 10. His pee keeps leaking out the back! Am I putting the diaper on too loose or something? This happened sometimes with our Huggies but he was smaller then.

Huggies are the bane of my existence!!! LO leaks out of them on the regular...alas our very generous friends got us a diaper cake made of Huggies sizes NB, 1 and 2. I like the honest company diapers, they fit LO really well and for the leak-free days I'll spend a bit more! When I use them it's almost like a little treat for me :)
  • Speaking of leaking diaper: does anyone have an over night diaper they recommend? We try to not change her diaper at the middle of the night feed, but as she's gotten older she's peeing a lot more and soaking through. Any suggestions?

  • LO has never leaked through pampers! And he is a pee machine.
  • Juuuust realized "colosun" as in @lovethatcolosun isn't one word.

    I love the honest diapers!

  • @virginiaunicorn11 love that so much!!! We actually found out we were expecting (and not planned at all) a month after my step dad died of cancer. I think being pregnant and having the first grand baby for my mom helped her with the grieving process, actually helped us all to look forward to something and keep up looking at something positive. We could have sworn we were going to have a boy and planned on giving him my step dads name for his middle name. But we had a girl so we didn't.
Everytime our girl is with my mom something great happens. Last time we were all together LO just started smiling and trying to laugh like crazy when my mom was just baby talking her. It was the first time we saw any happiness from our daughter since she's been colicky. She was 4 weeks early, induced because she wasn't growing. We didn't have to spend any time in the NICU and she was perfect when she came out.
I definitely believe everything happens for a reason. Although there are times I want to cry from frustration and sleep deprivation, I know that having her here is truly a blessing.

Just a question. Does anyone else get nervous when their changing LO and they fart?

I jump every time! She has a knack for farting juuuuust as I'm applying the Vaseline on her bum!

Am I the only person that can use all brands of diapers? This is a brag I guess. Lol
Honest diapers are the best IMO. They are so well made and I love them. That being said I can and do use whatever anyone bought me.

So far Salamander can use pampers and huggies, about to break out a pack of LUVS that i got at my baby shower so I'll find out If he can use those soon.

So far I've been able to use both Pampers and Huggies. I wanted to try some Luvs but when I went to buy diapers at Target yesterday they didn't have any nb size. I would like to try Honest or Seventh Generation, but they're expensive :(

The honest diapers are cheaper if you buy the monthly bundle online. I started getting them months ago to stock up. It's about $85/month for diapers. I also love the convenience of them being delivered to my front door.

I just won a prize for yesterday's tata Tuesday chat! Yay! :D

    What did you win??
  • @aliciac2008 mine does the same! I can't wait til she really laughs!

@upandbelow I LOVE honest diapers. They fit LO really well. We rarely have a blow out. Never a leak. Plus I feel good putting them on her. No/less chemicals. Better for her and the environment.
  • LO leaks through them all... He's a pee machine .. I was a sworn huggie mom, the ventured out to honest, pamper, seventh gen.. He pees through them all .. So still sticking with the hugs.. (He is fathers child) : o
  • @dancegurl1118 how horrible! I can only imagine the stress and anxiety you were feeling.
  • Today I locked my child in the car with the keys inside and the fire department had to come. So don't worry guys...parent of the year award goes to this lady.

Oh no! What a nightmare! So glad everyone is okay. I really think it could really happen to anyone, you are still a great mommy!!

Oh no! I seriously saw myself doing this earlier this week. At least it's a good story and no one is worse for the wear!
  • I know there's a thread about this somewhere but LO had her 2 month shots today and my little heart is still recovering from hearing her screams. It was torture! She was off and on all day but now is just very sleepy.. At least now that she had her vaccines I can stop being AS scared of people touching my baby (hopefully).. Although a crazy old drunk lady did touch her last night and I genuinely almost slapped her face.
