My US tech thinks I have late onset of GD as I have a large amount of fluid and baby is measuring large. I've never had it before but I took it upon myself to cut out almost all carbs and high sugar fruits. They don't want to re-test me since I'm almost done with my pregnancy.
I would say if they are doing the extra monitoring for the baby, that is the important part. Do they have you testing your blood glucose @jabeauty90 ? I hope everything turns out okay for you and baby. Let us know!

They don't have me doing anything. I was actually surprised. Both my other babies were small so for this one to be bigger I'm a little nervous. I figured since they aren't taking the initiative to do something I'll just do it by watching my food intake. My mom is diabetic and that's how she manages it. Thank you!
Thanks you guys! We went out on a date night tonight and then made one of those belly casts. It was totally silly but DH even thanked me for finding a good distracting activity. It was hilarious and the perfect way to send off this pregnancy. So if you find yourself a ball of nerves and have to be induced...go buy some plaster I'll be back later this weekend to update hopefully
So...about a week and a half ago I had an growth sono done because I was measuring small. At 37 weeks baby measured 5 lb 4 oz, which placed her in the 20th percentile. Dr said he wasn't overly concerned. Then at my appt today he said he wants another sono next Tuesday to see if she has grown because I'm still not the size I "should" be for 38+2. He said if she is still small on Tuesday he will send me to the hospital to be induced. He said he wasn't going to diagnose me with IUGR just yet, but I'm certainly borderline. Ugh. so much!! 6 weeks ago he was telling me GD will make me have a 10 lb baby and under no circumstance would he let me go to 40 weeks, and now I'm hearing the opposite problem. I'm so ready for baby girl to be here. Safe and sound in my arms where I don't have to worry about her weight or her sugar or health problems I'm causing. She's supposed to be safest right now inside of me, and yet I feel like every time I turn around my body is somehow failing her
Oh @seamonkey4 , hang in there. It's so much news to digest. The GD diagnosis and constant self monitoring makes anything else on top of it seem crushing. I hear you. All I'm dealing with is a breech baby and possible c-section, but hearing anything isn't going perfectly is crushing.
Just keep in mind to be kind to yourself, you are doing everything you can to keep that little girl safe and happy. Don't get down on yourself for "causing" her health problems, I've been down that road too and it's not productive. You have kept that baby safe and sound for 9 months! You have done a wonderful job!
Keep us posted on your progress. You'll be great and whatever way baby girl gets to your arms is the way it was meant to be! Big hugs
Thanks @duckygirl11 I appreciate your kind words. That's why I love this little board we started, I always know where I can come for support when I'm feeling out of sorts and just need to vent. I know we will all get through our individual trials. And I hope your LO flips! I'm sure you've tried things and I'm just repeating what you've heard a million times, but I used peppermint essential oil, and drew a rainbow from hip to hip over the top of my belly, and literally within 5 min I could see baby girl twisting and turning and she has stayed head down ever since. Just in case you haven't tried all your options!
Hey all...so I have a beautiful baby girl. She was born at 5 pounds 7 oz. So definitely not a "big" baby. First my induction for anyone nervous: start to finish 13.5 hours. Super fast progression. I had to not push and wait on Dr! The baby was in a little distress so I had to wear oxygen mask the whole time and they did a glucose drip as my sugar dropped. They did an epidural and they had trouble keeping my blood pressure up (and previously it had been high). My epidural, due to back surgery worked for all but the final pushing. It hurt like heck for one push but the rest totally manageable. The worst was the pitocin contractions because you don't get any rest in between.
Next my baby: her sugar keeps dropping so they had to put her in NICU. So keep in mind, apparently being diet controlled does not always equal lower risk. Not to scare you ladies. I just was in for a rude awakening. Now I am pumping every 3 hours for her. She is hooked up to a glucose drip. but for the time we spent with her. She was perfect.
These hormones are a b!+@$ and I'm just crying like crazy. Waiting on my Dr to round so I can shower and feel human. Originally the hospital Dr wanted to discharge me today, not even 24 hours out. But my nurse says I can stay a little longer, maybe until tmw. Not ready to leave my baby yet.
I will maybe put something in birth announcements, but won't say much else beyond our little group. When I get to real internet and not the app I'll send a pic.
I've been waiting to see you post, @squigles28 ! I'm glad the induction process went well, hope baby girl's sugars stabilize quickly and you can both get home and start your lives as a new family. Congrats!! Hope the shower helps you feel better!
Congratulations, @squigles28! I've been waiting to hear too - thanks for letting us know. I'm so glad to hear the induction process went well. I hope you're getting a shower and a little rest and that baby's sugars stabilize very soon! It must be so hard not to have her with you right now, but at least you know they're taking good care of her.
Congrats @squigles28, I've been waiting for your update! You've been so incredibly helpful on this board, I hope you and baby girl have a smooth recovery.
To whine for a moment, one of the things that makes me crazy about gd is the inconsistency for no appreciable reason. I had the exact same dinner last night and tonight. One hour post dinner was 87 last night and 111 tonight. Overall, I've had less carbs and sugar today. Almost exactly the same amount of both water and exercise (which is great on water, but very little exercise at this point as pretty much every step I take hurts). Those numbers are so different. It's so hard to make decisions when results can be so different without any clear reason why. Grrr.
In better news, at my regular weekly appointment this morning, the doctor now said that as I've been diet controlled if my numbers stay at least as good as they have been, they'll let me go as late as the end of 40 weeks before inducing. Til now even diet controlled they kept saying they wouldn't let me go at all late. I think part of that is based on my original test results no one thinking I'd actually manage to make it through without meds. While I've hit the point of so not wanting to be pregnant anymore and there's actually a little relief for the planner in me in the thought of just deciding when to go the hospital rather than having to wait and see, all along inducing has been one of my biggest fears and regrets of having GD so I'm really pleased to hear this. It's definitely helped give me a little more resolve to stick with the diet program for these last few weeks.
That is awesome! I caved and had 3 pieces of dove dark chocolate today, and now am guilty that I had my first 133 for after meal. ..moving on though. ..tomorrow is a new day! Day by day is my mantra! I have a repeat section scheduled for Sept 23
Just wondering if any of the ladies who have delivered can give insight into what to expect testing wise after birth for mom. That you to squiggles for the possibility that LO could still struggle with sugars...I just feel like I have no idea of what to expect!
Board has been pretty quiet, wondering how everyone is doing! For me, baby is still breech so we have a scheduled c section on the 28th. My due date is the 20th, but my OB is of the mantra that babies come when they're ready, so isn't hurrying me. Weekly BPPs have been good. Last growth scan baby was just about 7 lbs. We were team green but today had to find out gender because baby BOY (!!!!) has a hydrocele in his testes. It's normal, but it came up on the BPP so my dr asked if we wanted to know. First time anything has "come up" so we couldn't say no.
As far as GD, I feel like it's the last thing on my mind! Sugars are all normal, I am averaging 1-2 high post meal numbers but I can always attribute it back to food choice. Haven't had a high fasting number since figuring out the right dosage of nightly insulin.
So that's me, how is everyone else doing? @squigles28 how is your baby girl? @seamonkey4 how are you? Other gals?
Hi guys!! I delivered my beautiful, healthy baby girl this morning! Got to the hospital at 7:25 am, and Audrey Grace arrived at 9:14 am after 4 pushes! Weighed 6 pounds 15 oz, 21" long. Perfect 10 apgar score. I had a completely natural birth just as I had wished! Her sugars will be checked one hour after every feeding. So far all has been good and we are planning to go home tomorrow. Don't give up on your birth plans just bc of GD! Good luck ladies. I will keep checking in to see how everyone is doing!
Yay, congratulations, @seamonkey4!! How exciting -- and I'm so glad to hear it went so well!
I'm doing more or less well. Sugars remain under control overall. I have had a meal out in each of the last three weeks where I was controlling, but not to the same extreme level and for each of those meals had sugars in the 140s. Meal time averages are still just a little over 100, though, and fasting is continuing to come down a bit more each week now averaging in the higher 70s. I'm really hopeful that this will mean that post-birth, I'll be fine and my body will go back to handling insulin normally. I'm definitely worried about this, but it seems promising. And, of course, I'm very anxious to see my baby's sugars and size be totally fine. They are doing another growth scan next week -- I'll be just a few days shy of 40 weeks at that point so it's really just so they have a better sense of what delivery might be like since there clearly won't be much I could do to change anything at that point. She was perfectly sized in the 45th percentile last time we did this (based on their known to be totally inaccurate measurements). Hopefully that's still more or less true!
I have been having some blood pressure spikes, though. For that they now have me getting twice weekly NSTs. It's funny how just as things seem okay with the GD, there ends up being something else. Luckily the bp does keep coming back down, but is still something of an overall concern. Based on this, they'll let me go as late as 40+5. We scheduled an induction for that day (September 24), if I haven't gone into labor on my own by then. Fingers crossed that baby and body decide to make it happen before then.
how is everyone doing?! Looking forward to hearing how your births went.
After struggling with whether or not to induce at 40 weeks my little girl decided to come on her own at exactly 39 weeks. I went into labor naturally and after 18 hours (pushing for about 4 yuck) I delivered her vaginally. I did get an epidural. Imagine my surprise when she weighed 7lbs. 5oz. !! They monitored her sugars for 12 hours and she was perfectly fine.
Thanks for the support in this thread. It definitely kept me sane. Hope everyone is enjoying their LOs.
I had a great repeat csection! Brynn's sugars were perfect, she had some breathing difficulty at first, but the team was able to get her breathing on her own. I also was surprised she was 7 lbs. 13oz. She is totally perfect, and my sugars have returned to normal to! I have the glucose challenge test again in a few weeks. I am so grateful for the support of this thread!
For those who have delivered- when did your docs talk about repeating the GTT? I've already had my 2 week appt and it wasn't mentioned. I was nursing a fussy, hungry baby while simultaneously having my who-ha examined(hooray for multi-tasking?) so it didn't even cross my mind. I don't go back until 6 weeks for another check. Just curious how everyone else's ob is handling the GD post delivery.
Madelyn arrived on 9/17 via c section after 3 days of induced labor (and more than 2 hours of pushing until we agreed it wasn't going to work). She was only 6 lbs 6 ounces. Even while pushing and being able to touch her head they were still sure she was going to be so big. They really just can't tell. Her sugars were all good, as were mine the next day. With really wonky eating timing in the hospital I had a few highs (in the higher 120s) and lows (in the 60s) while there that they insisted on treating with glucose and insulin. Other than that I made it through med free and am just hoping there don't end up being any long term consequences.
She's lost too much weight at this point so we're really struggling with that. I'm feeding frequently and have now started pumping and supplementing (via syringe feeding rather than bottle for now). We're back to the doctor again on that today and I'm really hoping for improvement. This schedule is brutal, though. I've never done anything this tough in my life and am just trying to hang on a little longer. Hopefully she catches up very soon and we can move to something a little less intense.
Re: Anyone else struggling with Gestational Diabetes?
I hope everything turns out okay for you and baby. Let us know!
Thank you!
I'm a lurker from Oct15, that due to GD will now have a Sept 15 baby. I have read the thread and it so inspiring and helpful.

1 week update...she is gorgeous and back up to her birth weight. And the pediatrician said she looks great now.
