@embuzz247 I agree completely! We are planning on buying a forever home in a great suburban neighborhood that has a water park for a community pool! Oh man I'm already looking forward to when this little fetus and I can enjoy our summers off in that pool!
And I also dislike the sex guessing. Ramzi, skull, nub- they're just theories. I don't see how guessing is fun. I've never been a guesser. I'm logical. I want facts, I want truth. I just don't have time for guessing.
Yes! Like what even is the point of having people guess? So you can get excited thinking your baby is one sex just to be disappointed when you find out its the opposite? I really don't get that at all. I don't even want a guess from my OB, midwife or US tech, I only want to know if they're positive!
Almost the opposite of a previous UO, I refuse to ever pay anyone for home improvement. My whole family, my boyfriend, and his whole family are in the construction business. We plan on remodeling our bathroom ourselves and it will be up to code and just as nice as it would be if we played someone else to do it, not to mention cheaper.
I think it depends on where you live. I wouldn't expect to live in anything big if I lived in NYC or California. I love living in NW Indiana with land, a 1900 sq ft home in a subdivision and only being 30 min from Chicago. Lower taxes, inexpensive homes, better schools, more space, no expensive parking permits. I always envisioned having a ton of family over for games and holidays.

I was born in NYC. When I was 3 yrs old we moved to Los Angeles area. I think a major reason we moved might be because my parents wanted a bigger home. But things have changed since 1979 and the cost of living has become absolutely ridiculous everywhere, especially NYC and Cali. So I feel for y'all. You guys probably pay much more for your apartment than I do for my house here in Texas.

Totes different. They are trained and qualified and as long as they put the same effort in, I don't doubt that is the best route to go. The guy who lived in our house and worked in in construction/renovation was lazy on his own house - cut tons of corners - and it's noticeable ... I have no problem with it if that's your trade and you do a nice job.
My husband and I are in no way trained in that business and that's why I don't think it's our business to be doing any of it.
I'm not sure that this is unpopular, but I'm going to post it anyway because I have been so ill about it today.

@Marchmellow2 it isn't bad at all. Just funny as hell. I'm grateful for this board being that all my shows recently finished for the season. Constant source of entertainment.
UO- Why do people need homes that are 1500+ sq. ft.? Who is cleaning all that house? Furnishing and heating all that house! This seems to be a suburban thing. I am not talking tiny house revolution or anything, but I feel like most American suburbs have homes that are TOO DAMN BIG.
WHAT?! 1500 sq feet is not ENOUGH space!! My house is only 1800 sq feet and that's still not enough room. Housekeepers and gardeners aren't that expensive here in Texas, maybe that's why I don't mind.
I was raised in a 5000 sq ft house and that was way too much! We needed a live in maid.
We moved from 1300 sq ft in Ohio to 600 sq feet in California (with a rent hike of $500!). But you come to realize that you don't need a ton of space to make a home a home!
Ouch!! Sorry! Where do you put all your stuff? Maybe I'm a hoarder but I would have no clue where to put all our stuff! Do you just use storage units?
We sold almost everything before we moved. And if we don't have room for something, we don't buy it.
I've always been a suburban girl, so it was a shock when we moved. But I've grown to like the coziness.
However, we're going to move somewhere bigger when our lease is up. But I'm so not ready to drop $1600 a month on a two bedroom apartment. #CaliLife
Also, I love my 2300 sq ft house! It's a fantastic size for DH, myself and our two dogs and will accommodate 1-2 children perfectly. We don't pay a ton for it because we live outside suburbia/city in more of the country. It's a perfect location for us.
I think the main reason I love the extra space is because we constantly have family over. So even though it's only home to my DH and myself (and soon, a child) there are never only two people there. We have my nieces/nephews come visit. We host holidays of 12+ people, we have friend get togethers, etc.
I never felt comfortable having guests in any of my apartments (usually around 1100 sq ft) because I felt like everyone was always on top of each other. Now we have the space to live, entertain, and be comfortable without breaking the bank. I would never need to go bigger than this, and I could probably go smaller if I had to, but this is just right for me!

Totally agree! If you choose to live downtown or in the city and you're cool with an apt or small space, kuddos to you! I think that'd be an awesome experience. But it's not what my dh and I want. We live about 30 minutes from downtown Detriot so we go to games and concerts and it's close enough, but far enough away.
I love having family over for holidays. Our home is right in the middle of my parents and my in laws, so we are the central location and I love having everyone over for dinners and special occasions. That's what we wanted and we were lucky enough to get it.
It totally depends on where you live. I live in New Jersey not in a city and with the amount of I can afford to pay for a condo I can take and buy a huge new home in many other states. Just the way thee cookie crumbles. The cost of living in some states are way better than others. But alas. I love my state.
Of this I am sure. Watching HGTV where some people's homes cost total what we have as a 20% down payment (true story) is frustrating at moments. But I will NEVER move from Brooklyn. Ever.
The nature of the responses to it prove why my stance is so unpopular. I shall defend it to the death. The idea that wanting a smaller space is somehow "cute," or an experience is puzzling.
I also have the unique experience (not actually that unique) of having lost almost everything in an accident in one of my first ever apartments alone. It made me realize how little I need to be comfortable. Since then, I try not to keep that many things as a personal preference. My husband has even less stuff than I do, which I suppose is not all that uncommon.
So that brings me to another UO (I have tons, I told you) I think people have too much stuff. I'll lump myself in that category with some things (example: magic bullet, nutribullet, vitamix- I am ashamed). We need so much space because we all have too much crap. And that's what most of it is. Crap.
@erikaalzet . I totally agree. I have way too much crap! I really really do! We would have so much more room if I hadn't acquired all this crap in the 5 years we've lived in this damn house. I need help lol. I just want it all gone! But can't seem to let it go. I've always been the minimalist type but suddenly after having my DS I'm overwhelmed with crap in all my closets and garage! I'm over it!
I think being ok with your husband going to a strip club and getting lap dances is so odd. No, it has nothing to do with "trusting" him it has to do with respect. Likely, you wouldn't be alright with some woman climbing all over him at pool or restaurant but because he pays her and it's at strip club makes it ok? like, what?!
@erikaalzet I hate clutter. I give things a year and if I don't use it or have it saved for a room, I donate or give to a family member. It feels good to purge everything you don't need.

Oh this can't be unpopular!!! Or is it? We need to take a poll on this one!

You would think right? this is from an old convo I had with a previous board. and yes, it was an uo. it's mind boggling to me.
I've lived in a bunch of different places (cities to suburbia, 6 different states, 2 different countries/continents) and I think you wind up needing as much space as you have.
My own UO contribution: I don't understand genderizing everything baby related. Granted, I'm Team Green, but even if we did find out, I wouldn't be covering out girl with bows or boy with trucks. Should my child want to dress that way, ok, but as a baby, I'm betting it just wants to be comfortable.
Now we all know that naming it that would be a disaster waiting to happen. ROFL I don't typically laugh out loud here, but I am imagining the chaos that would ensue. Random gifs flying, people screaming "science," someone talking about bullying, a random nipple rolling across the board like tumbleweed. Don't do it!!
Most boards call it that. If you ever see a thread at the beginning of the week that is titled MMBF, that means Monday Morning Bitch Fest. It's definitely not new, D12 (having moved to FB long ago) still does it every Monday.

My husband going and my being okay with it are two different things.
But I am fortunate that my husband does not keep the kind of friends that would ask him to go or give him hell if he said no.

I have no problem with it whatsoever. But I thought me not having a problem with it was an UO. Lol!
I personally don't think it's disrespectful. It's a form of entertainment.
My UO is that I can't stand Taylor Swift. Her music is terrible, I don't think she's attractive, and when I lived in PA she used to come home (she's from there) and she used to go to the store where I worked and behave like a flaming bitch to everyone. She is NOT a sweetheart.
We purchased 11 acres and by choice are self-building a 1,600 sq. ft. house. We will build a guest house for the guests later, and I'm happy we won't be heating it all the time. DH is a engineer, but learned carpentry from his dad as a teenager and is learning the rest as we go, all up to code (much to his chagrin). So I guess that's a mixed bag for UO or PO. Not a fan of snout houses in suburbia aesthetically, but I totally get why people might. I miss having lots of neighbors (we only have two). I also think I could live in and love living in the city too. Loved DC when I did that, but goodness the traffic.
So that's all mostly GTKY stuff.
My real UO is I'm an atheist, but I still have some major love for people who are devout in their beliefs, even when they're opposite mine (miss you Grandma Daisy!).
I love gifs. They're completely harmless and shouldn't be taken personally
This is a gif of conan o'brien doing the "suck it" gesture. How anyone would think that's 'completely harmless' is beyond me. It's actually pretty offensive in context to the conversation. Granted, I think Conan is hilarious.

I feel like it's harmless because it's just a gif. Of Conan.

I don't care for gifs either, but I think the initial intent of this Conan one, paired with the fairly harmless comment was just to be funny, not offensive. Kind of like a visual way of saying "no harm, no foul."
My UO is that I can NOT stand when I see a 1 or 2 year old with a cell phone or an iPad/tablet playing a game. Especially when they can comprehend how to unlock the device and find a specific app. I'm all for educational apps when they get a little older. An example: seeing a 2 year old playing "fruit ninja" on an iPad while the mother is on her cell phone on social media. I see too many people use those game apps as a distraction and way to keep their child from 'bothering' them.
My UO is that I don't think Friends is funny. My husband loves to watch Friends. My best friends love to watch Friends. I don't get it. I've watched episodes and I find myself annoyed with all the characters.
I don't hate it. I just find it not that funny. I think it is an absurd show.
My UO: people are too sensitive. Wear your big girl panties and 90% of the "drama" on this board wouldn't even be drama.
This! Please ladies. Let's stop being so sensitive to everything. We would have almost no drama if we all just let other people have their opinion too. And not take offense to what people say on the Internet.

Unfair! I can't have my alcohol. I can't have my marijuana. Now I can't have my emotions! Wenches!
My UO is I think people who don't like animals are strange.
And... I wish the world would stop talking about Kim K and her fat ass. I'm secretly happy that Bruce/Caitlin Jenner is overshadowing her... I do respect her for coming out with her fertility issues but other than that... Get fucking lost!!! Anytime I hear her voice I want to throw something at the tv.
You seriously can't get away from them!!! I am buying the app that gets rid of anything that pops up Kardashian on my phone.
I'm late to the party that I feel the need to respond. When I was living in Spain, our main house was over 10,000 ft.². We also had six additional houses on the property. However, we had a number of adults living in the main home and it worked out just fine. The staff had their own home on the property as well. I also had a large home in Manhattan. So… I am truly blessed with space! It is extraordinarily difficult for DH and I to be living in 1442 ft.² right now. However, I am sucking it up because I put on my big girl panties and decided that I wanted to be married and live where I live. However, if I was given the opportunity to live in a condominium that was over 5000 ft.² I would jump at the chance. If I could afford my own townhome, even better! For people that want to live in micro homes, that's also your choice.
My UO- don't judge people based on what they do or do not have financially (or spacially.) Not only is it rude, it's uncouth and uncalled for. you have no idea what that person may or may not be doing for this world. You have no idea how they got there nor do you have an idea how much they may give back. Green is not a good color for anybody, other than Oscar the grouch.
And, you have no idea what troubles they are going through in their life so back off. People have all sorts of problems and until you walk a mile in their shoes, do not judge.
2nd UO- Big girl panties should be worn at all times.
3rd UO- GIFS ARE THE BEST which I didn't even realize was unpopular.

I agree that if your husband is going to strip clubs all the time, that is not ok! But, if he goes to a strip club for one of his friend's bachelor parties, etc, I'm ok with that. Now, my husband really dislikes strip clubs. He actually called me complaining that he was at a strip club for his friend's bachelor party. I laughed at him if I had a husband who loved it, I might feel different about even "occasionally".
I think the more uo is not wanting your guy to watch porn. I have no problem with porn (which may be why I think it is the more unpopular opinion, because it's not my opinion )
Well, I think the size of your home can depend on where you live. Our house is a little over 3,000 sq ft and we have 2 acres of land. We're out in Texas Hill Country. We do not have a lot of extra stuff, either. We like room to move around.
