Almost the opposite of a previous UO, I refuse to ever pay anyone for home improvement. My whole family, my boyfriend, and his whole family are in the construction business. We plan on remodeling our bathroom ourselves and it will be up to code and just as nice as it would be if we played someone else to do it, not to mention cheaper.
  • I was born in NYC. When I was 3 yrs old we moved to Los Angeles area. I think a major reason we moved might be because my parents wanted a bigger home. But things have changed since 1979 and the cost of living has become absolutely ridiculous everywhere, especially NYC and Cali. So I feel for y'all. You guys probably pay much more for your apartment than I do for my house here in Texas.

Totes different. They are trained and qualified and as long as they put the same effort in, I don't doubt that is the best route to go. The guy who lived in our house and worked in in construction/renovation was lazy on his own house - cut tons of corners - and it's noticeable ... I have no problem with it if that's your trade and you do a nice job.

My husband and I are in no way trained in that business and that's why I don't think it's our business to be doing any of it.
  • I'm not sure that this is unpopular, but I'm going to post it anyway because I have been so ill about it today.

Don't tell me how my belly has "pooched out" every dang day. Yes, I know it is growing, but you don't have to keep reminding me. My jeans and shorts barely fit so believe me I know it's growing. Yes, I am excited about my baby, and I know other people are too, but if you are not my SO or my other children you have ZERO business touching my belly.

  • @Marchmellow2 it isn't bad at all. Just funny as hell. I'm grateful for this board being that all my shows recently finished for the season. Constant source of entertainment.

UO- Why do people need homes that are 1500+ sq. ft.? Who is cleaning all that house? Furnishing and heating all that house! This seems to be a suburban thing. I am not talking tiny house revolution or anything, but I feel like most American suburbs have homes that are TOO DAMN BIG.

WHAT?! 1500 sq feet is not ENOUGH space!! My house is only 1800 sq feet and that's still not enough room. Housekeepers and gardeners aren't that expensive here in Texas, maybe that's why I don't mind.

I was raised in a 5000 sq ft house and that was way too much! We needed a live in maid.
We moved from 1300 sq ft in Ohio to 600 sq feet in California (with a rent hike of $500!). But you come to realize that you don't need a ton of space to make a home a home!
Ouch!! Sorry! Where do you put all your stuff? Maybe I'm a hoarder but I would have no clue where to put all our stuff! Do you just use storage units?
We sold almost everything before we moved. And if we don't have room for something, we don't buy it.

I've always been a suburban girl, so it was a shock when we moved. But I've grown to like the coziness.

However, we're going to move somewhere bigger when our lease is up. But I'm so not ready to drop $1600 a month on a two bedroom apartment. #CaliLife

It totally depends on where you live. I live in New Jersey not in a city and with the amount of I can afford to pay for a condo I can take and buy a huge new home in many other states. Just the way thee cookie crumbles. The cost of living in some states are way better than others. But alas. I love my state.

@erikaalzet . I totally agree. I have way too much crap! I really really do! We would have so much more room if I hadn't acquired all this crap in the 5 years we've lived in this damn house. I need help lol. I just want it all gone! But can't seem to let it go. I've always been the minimalist type but suddenly after having my DS I'm overwhelmed with crap in all my closets and garage! I'm over it!

  • I think being ok with your husband going to a strip club and getting lap dances is so odd. No, it has nothing to do with "trusting" him it has to do with respect. Likely, you wouldn't be alright with some woman climbing all over him at pool or restaurant but because he pays her and it's at strip club makes it ok? like, what?!

Oh this can't be unpopular!!! Or is it? We need to take a poll on this one!

You would think right? this is from an old convo I had with a previous board. and yes, it was an uo. it's mind boggling to me.

  • I've lived in a bunch of different places (cities to suburbia, 6 different states, 2 different countries/continents) and I think you wind up needing as much space as you have.

My own UO contribution: I don't understand genderizing everything baby related. Granted, I'm Team Green, but even if we did find out, I wouldn't be covering out girl with bows or boy with trucks. Should my child want to dress that way, ok, but as a baby, I'm betting it just wants to be comfortable.

  • Now we all know that naming it that would be a disaster waiting to happen. ROFL I don't typically laugh out loud here, but I am imagining the chaos that would ensue. Random gifs flying, people screaming "science," someone talking about bullying, a random nipple rolling across the board like tumbleweed. Don't do it!!

Most boards call it that. If you ever see a thread at the beginning of the week that is titled MMBF, that means Monday Morning Bitch Fest. It's definitely not new, D12 (having moved to FB long ago) still does it every Monday.

My husband going and my being okay with it are two different things.

But I am fortunate that my husband does not keep the kind of friends that would ask him to go or give him hell if he said no.

I have no problem with it whatsoever. But I thought me not having a problem with it was an UO. Lol!

    I personally don't think it's disrespectful. It's a form of entertainment.

  • I'm still laughing about the butt hurt gif from @313Meg in the "shaming" thread. Man, that might be my new fav.

My UO - I think popcorn should be banned in movie theaters. It's disgusting to hear people chomping away on it throughout a movie. Makes me cringe.

  • We purchased 11 acres and by choice are self-building a 1,600 sq. ft. house.  We will build a guest house for the guests later, and I'm happy we won't be heating it all the time. DH is a engineer, but learned carpentry from his dad as a teenager and is learning the rest as we go, all up to code (much to his chagrin).  So I guess that's a mixed bag for UO or PO.  Not a fan of snout houses in suburbia aesthetically, but I totally get why people might.  I miss having lots of neighbors (we only have two).  I also think I could live in and love living in the city too.  Loved DC when I did that, but goodness the traffic.

So that's all mostly GTKY stuff.

My real UO is I'm an atheist, but I still have some major love for people who are devout in their beliefs, even when they're opposite mine (miss you Grandma Daisy!).
  • I love gifs. They're completely harmless and shouldn't be taken personally

This is a gif of conan o'brien doing the "suck it" gesture. How anyone would think that's 'completely harmless' is beyond me. It's actually pretty offensive in context to the conversation. Granted, I think Conan is hilarious.

I feel like it's harmless because it's just a gif. Of Conan.

I don't care for gifs either, but I think the initial intent of this Conan one, paired with the fairly harmless comment was just to be funny, not offensive. Kind of like a visual way of saying "no harm, no foul."
  • My UO is that I can NOT stand when I see a 1 or 2 year old with a cell phone or an iPad/tablet playing a game. Especially when they can comprehend how to unlock the device and find a specific app. I'm all for educational apps when they get a little older. An example: seeing a 2 year old playing "fruit ninja" on an iPad while the mother is on her cell phone on social media. I see too many people use those game apps as a distraction and way to keep their child from 'bothering' them.
  • My UO is that I don't think Friends is funny. My husband loves to watch Friends. My best friends love to watch Friends. I don't get it. I've watched episodes and I find myself annoyed with all the characters.

I don't hate it. I just find it not that funny. I think it is an absurd show.

We can never be friends. Pun intended.
    BAHAHA.
  • @Karawe that's a good one, so good that it's too loaded for my blood. I would like to hear thoughts on that.
  • Why would anyone hate Kim K? Does she really affect your life? I don't get why anyone would dislike her. Is it really cause people talk about her?

    Kim K if you're reading this... I ❤️ you!!

Hahaha sorry that was funny! Totally kidding.. Well kinda lol. She probably lurks on this board. Come out of lurking Kim!!

  • Well, I think the size of your home can depend on where you live. Our house is a little over 3,000 sq ft and we have 2 acres of land. We're out in Texas Hill Country. We do not have a lot of extra stuff, either. We like room to move around.
