What is your job/occupation?

Re: What is your job/occupation?

  • I'm a content manager at an online database for teachers. I love it, because since it's an online company I can work from home if I'm having a really hard day. The office is beautiful, and I have lots of options for comfortable desk sitting. Just got approved to cut time to 20 hours/week from home after maternity leave! Woohoo!!

I am officially fascinated by your job! I used to teach but became a nanny after we moved out of state. On the side, I have created a website with tons of free teaching materials for educators. I'd love to actually get paid to do something similar someday!
  • I'm a marketing communications specialist for an industrial company. Not super exciting stuff, but I'm using my BS and MBC degrees! It affords me the flexibility I want for my family right now.
  • I am a SAHM now (since November) but prior to that I was a Regional Asset Protection Manager. Basically I was responsible for anything loss related (inventory, theft, etc.) as well as regulatory (OSHA, DOT, etc.), and safety for multiple locations. I absolutely LOVED my job and will probably go back into the field some day, but my region had changed and it was going to require a LOT more travel than I wanted at this point in my life with a toddler and a baby on the way, so I took the opportunity to step out of the working world for a bit to be with my kids. I have zero regrets, it was something I had been wanting to do since DS was born, but prior to them giving me a good reason to, I couldn't get myself to do it (I have always been VERY career oriented). I will say, I have so much respect for both working moms and SAHM's having been on both sides of the fence now!!
  • I'm in finance + I do child and family photography on the side. I apparently need to work both sides of brain to keep sane.

  • I'm an instructional designer, my current contract ends June 19th. I've been looking and interviewing for other positions but if nothing turns up, I've saved enough to handle finances until October. I'm hoping to have the next contract or job locked down in time to start October 1st, and if I get another job before I will work until baby gets here.

Really? That's awesome, most of us are credentialed teachers who also used to be in the classroom. We curate resources from people (probably like your website) and review them for teachers. PM me if you want more info about possibly making $ off of your materials! Also, there are sites like TeachersPayTeachers and Teachwise.com that will let you sell your materials!

How does one get into this? As a former teacher, I'm intrigued!!
  • I'm self employed. I have a small at home bakery that I run solo, and that means working some days up to 14 hours. It's getting very difficult, but I love what I do and I am very driven! My brain keeps telling me, "you can do it!" And my body keeps telling me "let me take a nap!" :-) so I try to listen to both, but it's hard. I'm also very nervous about when the baby gets here how I'll continue to keep up with things. Guess I'll figure it out!
  • Im a customer service manager at an optical warehouse and working on my masters currently. My employer is super supportive, but ill be working up until the day she is born. They really accomodate me as far as me being comfortable during pregnancy so no reason for me not to.
  • I work for the Department of Justice doing investigative research. I love my job and it lets me spend more time with the kiddos (I was active duty Army for 10 years before taking the job with DOJ). I still rock that uniform one weekend a month but it's getting harder to get those combat boots laced up ;)
  • I am a stay at home wife! But I do work 3 days a week cleaning my dad's house (laundry, filing, light house keeping) just something to give me some spending money and to keep me busy. Before I got pregnant, I also worked for my dad, but it was construction, and in the beginning of my pregnancy I had lifting restrictions due to having placenta previa, so he asked me to keep up his house instead. I really only work 5 hours or so a week, but it's nice because I have gotten a lot of things done around my own house! I plan to work until my due date (since I'm not doing much) and after the baby is born its nice knowing I can bring her with me to work! I don't necessarily need to work, but I like to be able to contribute a little bit.
  • I am a L&D RN. I work part time as my Husband is a full time RN in a cardiac surg ICU, and we have a 3 year old so one of us is always home with her :)
I plan on working at least till 38 wks unless baby tells me to slow down sooner.
  • I am a certified surgical technologist also known as a scrub tech or (formally) scrub nurse. My job consist of a lot of pulling pushing and lifting up to 50lbs or more in the operating room. With that being said, this will be my last month until after baby is born!

I am a Patient Coordinator in a small family practice/primary care office. I plan to stay home when baby comes, but will remain on staff as a prn employee. I offered to work mornings to fill in as coworkers take PTO. I plan to work until I go into labor.

  • I teach (science) high school full-time and college part-time. I'm due the 8/22 and hoping to work until Friday (8/21). My daughter was due 8/18/2013 and I worked until 10:30 on Friday (8/17) so I don't think it's too unrealistic. I could have made it to the end of the day but my doctor wanted to induce (my weekly labs showed my protein jumped over 1000 mg from 1500 mg to 2600 mg). My OB was going out of town so, if I chose to induce, I could go Friday (right after he called) and one of his partners would deliver or wait until Sunday night after he got back. Since DH had to leave for work Sunday night I chose to go in immediately. I've been induced both times for medical reasons (HBP and protein in urine) and haven't gone into labor before my due date either time.

  • I was a makeup artist at Sephora before I had to give up my position due to severe hyperemesis. Hoping to be able to go back in a year or so.
  • I work part time at the local movie theater. My sister works there too, and our good friend is the head boss lady, so we have a lot of fun.
  • Store manager and Buyer for a clothing store that's new & vintage stuff. I am due 8/2 and my last day is 7/3- in CA you can stop working 4 weeks before your due date and start disability maternity leave even if you are not high risk. I'm already uncomfortable since I stand 9/10 hours a day for work so I'm looking forward to sitting on my butt for a little bit. Granted my 4 year old will be off for the summer from pre-k soon so I'm sure I won't get much rest haha! I plan to go back to work by mid November unless we can afford for me to sahm once I'm on leave.

  • I am an RN in the ER. Still working 12s mostly 3 in a row, plan on working til the day I go into labor! It's been rough this past week. I just try to sit when I can. I feel my patients are nicer to me though lol. :)
  • I'm a teacher! I've been on summer break since May 20!
  • Right now, I work in Human Resources and plan to leave a week before my due date...for good. Can't wait to get out of this cubicle farm!

I became a doula a little over a year ago and plan on taking clients again on a part-time basis a few months after LO is born. So, I will be a SAHM and PT doula :)
  • I am also taking the MD bar in July...I'll be EIGHT months pregnant! Good luck to you, PLEASE TAKE IT EASY AND DONT STRESS OUT. I know its easier said than done, but you HAVE someone else that REQUIRES you to.
  • I work in the restaurant my husband owns with his business partner.  I work about 30 hours a week right now (hopefully until the end of July) while I'm finishing up my BA.  After baby is born I will work from home (about 10 hours a week) and I won't return to day to day operations.  I will also be taking baby with me to class since she will only be 4-5 weeks when fall term starts.  I only have one in person class and my prof is fine with it.
  • I'm a banker at a large known bank. I am working up until and I am fortunate enough to have 12 paid weeks of leave.

I'm a lead teller at capital one! And I'm getting the same paid 12 weeks. So nice.
  • I was a substitute teacher... My job right now is to keep my feet up and enjoy the last 7 weeks of this pregnancy!!!
  • I'm a financial advisor for a large bank. I'm also currently on a project for training incoming new hires to the company. I originally planned on 7/29 being my last day but am seeing my doctor today, who may put me out early.
  • I am a 2nd grade teacher. Our last day was May 28th and so happy for that. I will take 9 weeks after baby comes. I am so thankful that I do not have to work up until she comes!
  • I teach exercise and dance to children 2-8. My last day is tomorrow :) I am not going to go back to work , but I am planning on staying on as a substitute if needed.
