Today my beloved grandfather would have turned 97! He died on September 24th, and I am hoping LO is a boy so we can use Grandpa's name. He was a spy in WWII, married to my Grandma for 74 years, and they had three boys. I was the first girl born into the family, and was Grandpa's Girl.
DH and I lived in NY for 8 years to be near my grandparents. When DH got laid off two years ago, he spent the week driving my grandparents around to all their appointments, then worked evenings. He loved Grandpa as much as the rest of us.
Sorry this is long. Just still trying to process it all. Feeling more grateful than anything that we got as much time with Grandpa as we did. He really wanted to live to 103 though, because his mom lived to 102 and he didn't like her so much...
I'm so sorry for your loss. DHs grandpa was really special to the both of us. He always treated me like one of his own grandchildren. He always had a joke that he would pay you a $100 if you named your kid Dale or Dalena. We did name one of my boys after him, his middle name is Dale and I love telling him how special that name is.

You made me tear up :') my Papa does the same thing - he wants very badly for someone to name one of their babies "Doyle" or "Doylee/Doylette" (ROFL).
DH's grandfather passed two years ago this month and I was hoping to honor him with this baby but his sister (who isn't pregnant - or even trying yet) called it about a month before we found out we were expecting and I felt too bad to smash her dreams we were for sure going to name baby after DH's grandma (other side of the family) if he was a girl but, well, he definitely isn't

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I can relate, my grandfather passed away in January at 94 and his birthday would have been this past Saturday, which was my baby shower. It was nice for my family to celebrate a new life on that day.
My grandfather was a carpenter and he always made a rocking horse for each grandchild (6), great-grandchild (8), and even 2 great-great-grandchildren. I'm the youngest grandchild so my son will be the first child born into our family that does not get to meet him, or get a rocking horse. I was a little bit upset about it and had mentioned it to my aunt the day before the shower. She must have spent the entire night going through his workshop, because when I was opening gifts at my shower, I got one that was marked "For Carter, Love Poppy" and when I opened it, it was my grandfather's original hand-drawn patterns for making the rocking horses. Of course I cried, my cousins cried, my aunt, dad, and grandma cried. My fiance's uncle also does woodwork, so he is going to use the patterns to make one for our LO.
@amark11 so sorry for your loss. Hoping that like for me the many amazing memories keep you feeling close to his spirit.
My other random is about baby clothes.. I've been preparing mine and LO's hospital bags... Which means washing baby clothes... I just spent the last 10 minutes smelling them after they came out of the washer... They smell so good and I had a revelation that things are getting very close!
We did our car seat check today with one of the nurses at the hospital who is certified. DH is now driving around 24/7 with a car seat installed. This was a huge wake up call - even with the fact that I am scheduled for a c-section one week from today. A car seat made it sink in more than an OR time. Pregnancy is weird.

This is amazing!! Are you going to frame it and put it in the nursery or something? Makes me tear up.
Thanks for your kind words, ladies! The cycle of life is wondrous indeed, and it doesn't escape my mind that I was unknowingly 2 weeks pregnant when he died. LO will definitely carry a tribute either to my grandfather or my grandmother (who is equally amazing and fortunately still with us).
We have two girl names picked out - one honors DH's great grandmother with first name and my grandmother with middle name. The other honors my grandfather with first name and DH's grandmother with middle name. If it's a girl, we will see what name fits her better.
Sorry to have taken over the thread - back to randoms! Xo

I'm sorry I just saw this- I don't think I do the whole notifications thing right. But FIs uncle is going to use the pattern to make a rocking horse for LO and I will definitely save the pattern for future kids.
I remember reading about Antigone my senior year of HS. This is the first reference I have ever heard in relation. I'm kind of proud of myself for knowing that:) What a name!!
Edited. I just realized how random my random post actually is... I need sleep... Sorry gals
I went nursing bra shopping today with DS who is almost three. I was wearing a maxi dress so when I took it off to try on bras he yells, "naked baby!!" (This is what we say to him every time he runs around naked.) I couldn't help but laugh. Kids at this age say the funniest things.
He also sparked up a conversation with a random lady in target over birthday presents and suckers. She was totally captivated.
@amark11 I love recounting stories of grandparents. You are so lucky that you had/have a long time with them. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I think it's great you are planning on carrying on the names with this LO. We're doing that too with ours, naming her after my paternal grandmother.
One of my greatest friends from my hometown visited when I was there last weekend. She asked if she could talk to the baby, knelt down near my belly and then decided the baby couldn't hear her so proceeded to put her face against my bump and talk to the baby. I was crying from laughing so hard. I am uncomfortable when people touch my belly but this wasn't even awkward, just really silly and funny.
So thankful for lifetime friends and laughing so hard it hurts
So after months of searching for the perfect quilt and finding nothing reasonably priced (I know how much a crib quilt should cost, damn it, and $125 for a whole-cloth quilt is NOT reasonable, thank you very much!) and deciding for sure that I don't have the energy to make one myself I finally found a girl who makes custom quilts at a really great price we've talked it through and I am so psyched to see how it turns out! Woot!
Walking into Target today I saw a woman walking out. She spotted me first and gave me this knowing smile but then I noticed her bump and gave her the same smile and it was kind of like we were part of this secret club /:)
@mellymar If I remember correctly, you call baby Ewok, right? I was looking up baby costumes after a discussion about Halloween today and found this. Thought of you! May the Fourth be with you!

Ahhh! Love this! Damnit, now another ewok item I have to figure out / purchase. I wish I was crafty... :-S Thanks for thinking of me! I'll have to show DH and he's gonna love it but also shake his head at my wanting another ewok related item.
I went to the doctor today because I felt a lump with a pimple kind of thing on my waistline and it turned out I had a cyst which had to be squeezed and no anesthesia was used due to precautions with my pregnancy. Surprisingly I giggled the whole time because I was ticklish !! And she just looked at me like I was crazy..
Vicks VapoRub is some seriously freaky stuff. I just noticed that the tub I have been using - which has been working just fine - has been expired for years. Years. If nuclear war were to break out right now, and 200 years later a scavenger found this tub of Vicks (a la Fallout style), it would probably still work effectively.
So we just found out an OR spot opened up tomorrow (the day my doctor originally wanted to deliver me) so woohoo! Baby girl will be here tomorrow.
But I am also murderous at the moment. My DH is at our new house (90 min away), and lowes delivered the wrong fridge. They are saying they can't deliver the right one today. So let me get this straight, I ordered a $3000 fridge 2 weeks ago to ensure it would be here before delivery and now you're saying I am bringing baby home to a house without a fridge? I could strangle someone at the moment.
@knwilliams01 hooray! So glad you get to meet your little girl! Excited to hear your announcement once you are recovered and ready. Sounds like home depot owes you your fridge and a little something more, now. Maybe a store credit or something. Play your pregnancy, bed rest card well!
I have a mystery to be solved. How does a ring (in this case, my wedding band) jump off a cord when secured thusly (the thru the ring and then thru the cord method). Especially when said cord was then around my neck so it could not have worked itself back thru the loop. This is not the 1st time my ring has jumped off its mooring like that, but it IS the first time its done it when the cord was around my neck. (Cord is essentially a big ass hair tie, one solid piece of stretchy fabric)

That's some David Blain shit right there. Not sure how that's possible.

You just pull the top loop down around the ring (on both sides)and it comes right off. You have to put the cord through the ring or you might lose it!
@lovethatcolosun that's what I thought! I was like 'HOW does this happen?!'. I for sure thought that would hold it. But @mcknzzee is right, I just tested it, that must be how its happening. Its easier if its loose, but it will work when tight, too. Man, thanks, gal! I was seriously baffled and it was bugging me out!
