Too late to change but...

Ladies,
So we decided on a name as soon as we found out gender. *Alba Marie* We have, announced it and it's everywhere but we never really asked for opinions. I'm just curious to know what you think? :)

Re: Too late to change but...

  • I like it! I think it's feminine and unique. Good choice.

  • Why is it to late to change?
Alba reminds me of the surname. Marie is ok.

  • It's NMS and kinda reminds me of Harry Potter (Albus), but it looks to be a legit name so it's fine.

Also, it's not ever too late to change if you have doubts. Just because you told people an idea of a name doesn't mean it has to stay that name.

It's not too late just because you announced it. You have up until the day you sign the birth certificate to change your mind.
A friend of mine had someone give her a baby blanket embroidered with the 1st name she liked on it. Her gut kept telling her that it wasn't the name, she still changed despite feeling bad about the blanket.

Alba is okay. I agree with PP that it makes me think of Jessica Alba
  • Do not care for Alba. It's just not very attractive sounding and I do think of Jessica.

  • @JMU_Bride09 Actually, Alba was my grandmother's name. The name means more than I can explain. Thanks for everyone's honesty:)
  • Well if you are set on the name and it has great meaning to you then you shouldn't worry what others think :)

  • @ckalm5 I knew I was going to get that answer soon enough. Since we were so set on the name and didn't ask for opinions, I was just curious. Thanks!
  • @Mariaby people don't always like our names.. We have such a tough time agreeing though that I just don't let it bother me as long as we're happy with them.

I understand that Alba is a legit female name, but I just think of Jessica Alba. I would assume that you were big fans of hers.

First thing that came to my mind too.
  • Lovely, simple, classic, a winner! I suspect no one is going to think of Jessica Alba in a few years. I hate to be mean but I think her career is probably on a down slope. Plus, the only people who would think of her now are those who are really really into pop culture. I feel like it has a rich literary history, although, I can't think of any specific characters off the top of my head. Maybe someone from a Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Isabel Allende novel? Anyway, its certainly much more common and well known as a first name than a surname.

It hasn't been in the top 1000 names since 1923. It is much more common a surname then given name.
  • Is it a common surname? Maybe I wrote to soon because I didn't bother to look it up but I honestly have never heard it as surname before (or since) Jessica Alba. I know I've heard it a first name several times, both in real life and literature. Also, while its not popular here I bet its more popular in Spanish speaking countries.

I'm pretty sure it's in The Time Travellers Wife, that's the first association I had.

I know it as a surname before a first name, and it's definitely not a common first name.

I would also bet it is more popular in spanish speaking countries.
  • Haha, some of you ladies are too honest! "Don't like it at all." Thanks for the honesty though. I'm glad even with some of the comments I'm still happy and excited to name her Alba Marie. Besides being my late grandmother's name, Alba has a beautiful meaning in Spanish. ♡
  • There is a little girl in DD's dance class named Alba.  She's lovely :)
