September 2012 Moms

I'm hungover, and stuck at work, let's chat.

Yes, yesterday was Margarita Sunday.  My BFF was in town from Nashville, and it was her last night here so we went out, and I just want to throw in the towel this morning.

In fact, the entrance to my building was blocked off, and I contemplated turning around and going home rather than using any of the other 4 entrances.

I'm the only one in the office.  I may only last another hour or so, but I am off for the next 3 days, and all of next week, so...

I'm here. I'm home with Maya for the next two days since her school is closed. Drinking coffee in my pj's=happiness.

I cleaned the house from top to bottom yesterday. It took 7 hours but it's amazing the mental effect it had. I feel much more relaxed now.

I'm really debating taking Maya to see "Into the Woods". I'm dying to see it but not sure if she will cooperate. I know if she doesn't, I'll be irritated.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm off tomorrow, and still sending the kids to daycare.

We leave for Florida Friday night and I don't even have any appropriate clothing for Ben to wear, let alone started packing.

    Shit.

  • I'm at work today and tomorrow then Friday. The 2 days offf is a nice and makes the week fly by but I so didn't want to get up today.

Yesterday we took B to his first hockey game. He loved the zamboni naturally and said "I want to skate!" Music to my years!

I'm feeling a bit sick to my stomach today. Not sure what's going on but I can't be getting sick seeing as I'm home with B Wed/Thurs.

  • That's a good idea @kdsmith43.

I feel like I am constantly cleaning (which I am at this point).  There is so much dust from the construction, plus our house is surrounded by mud from the excavation, and there's constantly dirty paw prints everywhere from letting the dog out, and she's basically a walking dust mop.

    It is insanely stressful.

I also need to do something for toy organization.

  • I'm here, at work, but really don't want to be.  I've been sick for almost a week now, so I'm thinking it might be a sinus infection.  I only slept for about 4 1/2 hours last night & it wasn't good sleep.  I'm exhausted.

We only have a few things to cover today at work, so there's no way I'm making it past 3.  Since I was off last week, I feel like I need to be here at least most of the day, but there's practically no one else here.

I was planning on keeping the kids home with me Weds-Fri this week, but now I might send them to school on Fri to get all the stuff done I didn't get done last week/this weekend.  I used the only energy I had yesterday to get the tree down at least, but still need to attempt to organize all our toys (and send a bunch to storage).

I wanted to wait until new years as well, but then realized I just wanted my living room back.  I feel so much better now that ours is down.

If I take down the Christmas decorations, my house will be bare.  I see a big Home Goods trip in my future.

This is the part of a new house that I'm most excited about.  I can't wait to redecorate everything!  Though, I am afraid of how much that is going to cost me...

  • Now that the holidays are over, it's hit me that I am way behind in planning Brody's 5th birthday party.  Normally I like to have invites out right after Christmas, but I haven't even picked a date or location yet.  His birthday is in 3 weeks.  Oops.

  • Seeing other peoples' clean houses makes me want to clean. I need to do a serious purging of old toys. I just can't stand everything getting dragged out. DH has the rest of his week off so I'm hoping I can get some stuff done while he's home!

I'm still in holiday hangover mode and I don't want to see anyone! Ha! Four straight days of family gatherings have worn me out mentally and this introvert needs to recharge!!

I don't think I would take her. From the reviews I have read, it is more for older kids. You will likely get frustrated with her quickly at that rate.

Yeah, I really don't think it will go well. I don't think I will.
  • Thanks to margaritas and burgers, I was up 4 pounds this morning.

I'm totally not behaving like I need to wear a bikini next week.

I need to get busy planning Maya's. Do you do a family thing or friends? I've been thinking about inviting Maya's class but I'm not sure yet if that's my dumbest idea ever.
  • Also, when I got off the scale, Hannah pointed at me and said "You're too big!"

...because she thought the scale was a stool.  But I heard her message loud and clear.

I've been going back and forth on this.  Last year was the first year we did a typical kids party and we invited his close friends from his class (not the entire class) and my close friends that also have little ones.

This year, I debated inviting his 4K class, but I'm leaning towards not doing it.  We're inviting his close friends from his old daycare because we know the parents and have been doing playdates/birthday parties together for a couple years now.  Plus, we'll invite our friends as well.

My big dilemma is that we have always invited our close group of friends, however most of our friends have kids closer in age to Aedan than Brody.  This year, I'm thinking about a bowling party for Brody.  That will be hard with a bunch of 2 year olds running around.  So I was thinking about only inviting the 4 / 5 year olds.  But I don't want to offend anyone either...

We'll probably do something small with family to celebrate as well, but not having a ton of space in our apartment, I'm not sure I want to do much there either.  Poor Brody, he's not getting the full birthday attention he normally gets and I feel like 5 is a big deal.

We are going on a trip in February and it just hit me that I have to wear a swimsuit in about 6 weeks.  I need to get exercising, quick.

I would pretty much have to invite her class because she can never tell me who her friends are. It about 15 kids but I'm figuring not all will come. It all depends on me finding a good location because I am not having them in my house. No way.

That's why we decided not to do the 4K class, I would have to do everyone (which is close to 20).  I don't them well enough.  At his old daycare, most of his friends were friends since they were toddlers.  So it was easier after 3 years of being with the same kids to know who to invite.

If you think Maya would love having her friends there, I think you should definitely invite them.  Do you have any kids play places nearby?  We did a party at an indoor kids place last year and it was great because if some of the kids weren't as social, they didn't have to do everything together.  Otherwise, we've been to some great parties at gymnastics places in the area.

  • Does anyone own a mint or a roomba or the like?

    Worth it?

I have dark hardwood floors that show EVERYTHING, and the entire backside of the house is windows, so sunlight has become my worst enemy.

I don't have one but I totally relate to sunlight on the dark hardwood floors! One friend said they (Roombas) are a pain to program and pretty loud...another just turns the Roomba on when everyone's out of the house and let's it do it's own thing...not super thorough/doesn't replace her actually vacuuming but helps with maintenance.

I started looking around a little but I have to do more research. There's no place really nearby, but maybe 15-20 minutes away. I'm worried about committing a lot of money to a place when I don't know how many will show. I don't know the parents so I'm really guessing. Our only alternative is to plan another family party in NY, which I hate because she wants a Sofia party and she has no female cousins near her age. Just 2 boys, Ethan and the rest adults.

    I think @smb+jab has a roomba.... yes??

I love my dark hardwood floors, but cannot stand the mess that shows. Drives me crazy!
  • My friend bought me Lush bath bombs, and I am counting down the seconds to the end of work & bedtime for the kids so that I can soak in the tub for like an hour.

In 2015, I plan to take off one day each month to do thorough house cleaning while T is at daycare and H is at work. That's what I did on Friday and I got so much done. I even sent H to the golf course just to get him out of my hair. I feel like I am so much more stressed out when the house is a mess and it would be nice to have that full day to do the deep cleaning and organization.

I really need some storage suggestions for all of these toys. We have most of the toys in the spare bedroom but I would like to get everything contained into one room. I just don't see how it is going to be possible.
I might follow you on that one day a month idea. I have so much vacation time, I should use it for some house cleaning too.

I actually like having toys that live in the different rooms of the house and stay there instead of getting dragged out to the family room and then put back away in another room. It is also easier for the kids to help clean up if the toys are just going a foot away instead of a different room. Is that an option?

  • I just sent out the one thing that I'm in the office for today and got back a million out of offices.  Clearly no one is here to even read it, but we were here to send it anyway!  The CFO did already stop by once this morning, so at least I know he's reading it.

Now I'm ready to go home.  I should probably stick it out a few more hours.  :)

I need to get in the shower right now. I'm going out to lunch and a movie with my sister and niece in an hour but I am enjoying the peace and quiet of being alone in my house.

DH texted me this morning and said he misses the boys. I replied back "you really don't" as both boys were fussing over who got to shut the bathroom door. They really needed to go play with their friends today and were both so happy at drop off. I have no regrets taking them to daycare.
I'm glad we took Ethan to daycare. He has so much energy, he needs to play and interact. Maya is much more relaxed and I think it's good to have one-on-one time with her.

That's how both our boys are.  If we don't have fun stuff planned, they would rather be at school with their friends than at home.  Despite the all the new toys we have at the house.

  • Hannah is repeatedly getting out of bed in the middle of the night, even with the OK to Wake clock.

I hear her little feet coming down the hallway, and she brings her giant blanket and lovey...like she's planning on just moving in.  At first she was just waking early and coming in our room, and how it's at all hours of the night.

I'm pretty sure we'll never be able to sleep train Ben when the time comes because the second she hears anything, she thinks it's time to get up for the day.

...also, I wish that it wasn't too early to sleep train.  Kid is a horrible sleeper.

  • Maya just got up to go potty. Afterwards, I went in and found that she used the last of the paper, so she threw the roll away, went into the cabinet, got a new roll out and put it on the TP holder. What toddler does that? I love when her OCD works in my favor. The rest of the time it drives me nuts.
That's amazing.  I can't even get Brody to flush the toilet 1/2 the time!  I can't wait until Aedan is older.  He's the type of kid that would do that.  Brody is a slob.

(Aedan was upset when he found a scrap of wrapping paper still on a gift and had to take it off immediately and throw it away.  He's totally my OCD child.)
