I'm kind of taking one of these.  Mid-October I booked a by-myself no-family-allowed vacay to Puerto Rico to go shopping.

Which leads to a random question for @jennlin -- aren't you the hotel/airline points guru? I really want to stay at a Doubletree in PR, but it's pretty spendy. Do you know of any fancy ways to book it on points or get a sweet deal?  I know it's a long shot, but I can just imagine de-stressing at this place. Plus, the warm cookie on check-in... mmmm

Doubletree is owned by Hilton, and they have a hilton honors point system credit card. Owned by Citibank. Occasionally, they offer 40k bonus for signing up for a credit card, not currently offered, of course. Rooms are 5-10k each on average. I'm imaging PR would be on the high spectrum.

I just checked and right now they're offering two free nights, but it still takes a few months for the rewards to get logged I to your account, so you may not get it in time.

Another good credit card is chase sapphire. You can book rooms with your points for 20% off, but again, you need a few months in advance.

I remember you churn credit cards too, right? With American Airlines? You should know the drill.

Tl;dr, you're SOL for this trip, but with persistence, you can get up to 10 nights with the $100 annual fee.

I wouldn't say they are "common" but a lot of my IRL friends do something to treat themselves on their 1-yr (aka baby's birthday). Usually it's a piece of jewelry, a new outfit, makeover...something along those lines. I have a friend who is a photog, and she does lots of boudoir sessions for their anniversaries.

OMGoodness I hate baby socks. Yesterday DD2 lost a baby sock somewhere and I cannot find it! I think DD1 took it off her but she won't tell me where it is. I seriously haaaaaaaaate single socks with no mate- it really bothers me (my OCD coming out).

We are team no socks, no shoes. Shoes she acts like her legs are broken and screams until we take them off. Socks she pulls off, plays with them, then chews on them.

In Italy I was letting her walk in the grass outside a museum while DH went inside to get tickets. He overheard a British couple saying in alarmist tone "did you see that baby outside? walking with no shoes and no socks??"  Oh the horror of it!

So glad we live in a tropical climate. Come Dec she's going to have to wear them though.

Last night I began what will ultimately lead to my netflix demise this month.  I began watching Dawsons Creek from the beginning.  Its just as fucking great as I remembered.

This is my dream vacation.

A few years ago I flew to Dallas for a wedding and spent my first night there in my hotel room alone eating a pint of blue bell ice cream, drank a 4-pack of wine coolers, and watched a sex in the city marathon. It was amazing.

@bkeane619‌ I walked into our bedroom the other night and stepped in something cold and wet. I thought it was dog puke, but no, it's a soaking wet sock. Apparently, DH was doing laundry with DS and the only thing that kept him happy was chewing on a sock.

So that's where that damn sock went.

Are they the little business card coupons? I got 52 of those for going to a CFA opening, and they 100% accept them at different locations (even though it says otherwise on the card), and they'll usually even accept them when they're expired. Most of the time they're really easygoing about their coupons.


Go ahead and mail me a few and I will test out this theory.
