Generally, I concur @carriet2018, but the founder of the GLS kept saying "for those of you who have yet to find Jesus Christ at this point in your life"...like, eventually, I NEED to find Him. This makes me think he believes I should do this and therefore, will make me by blasting me with hymns and hallelujah arms. #hangoverinachurchnotrecommended

BTW it didn't work. I still claim to be nothing.
Yeah, I do think that it seems socially acceptable for people to say crap like that, but if someone said, "well, someday you will realize that you have faith in something that doesn't exist," people would be all "don't bash my religion! hater!" I find statements such as what Amjoy mentioned just as offensive and extremely common (not just crazies in the media).
@amjoy, riddle me this. If I am healthy in every measurable aspect (BP, heart rate, BMI, cholesterol, other medical things I can't think of), I am happy with my physical appearance and health, does it really mater WTF I eat? Within reason? I'm not talking about stuff loaded with chemicals, but white potatoes, rice, egg noodles, some white four stuff thrown in there. I mean really.

I'm on my phone so I can't quote but Christianity is not defined by going to heaven. It is defined by believing in the teachings of Christ. I don't believe in heaven going and I identify myself as a Christian.
Too much for FFFC?
I care about religion because it's consistently been an area of conflict and differences in beliefs cause great turmoil and violence. Religion will never be separate from state. Unfortunately.
It does when you eat french toast for breakfast, cereal and chips for lunch, and mac & cheese and fries for dinner. IT'S TOO MANY CARBS sleepy.
I beg to differ. It does if I ate 5 pieces of french toast for breakfast, 3 bowls of cereal and a whole bag of chips for lunch, and 57 oz of mac n cheez for dinner. Portions, yo.
Is it weird that I use ghosts to justify to myself that God might exist? I mean, ghosts are real (duh), and they are super scared of the Bible and holy water and priests, so that makes God real, right?
In other news, I really like watching "A Haunting" in daytime hours. Ghosts fascinate me.

I don't give a tiny rats ass what you eat, just don't (not you specifically) go around saying you can't lose weight when you are carb loading all the live long day. I'm happy with you, if you are happy with you.
For example: I have a new patient; he's elderly and diabetic, the doc says he needs to stop eating carbs and lose weight. Pt gives me the big eyes. I say, "don't you worry your pretty little head...if you're happy with yourself and your A1C is under control, I could care less". He made himself a friend that day.

Since when are ghosts so obviously real?
I was being sarcastic, since no one can prove if ghosts really do exist. I think they do, but I'm not really religious, so sometimes I struggle with separating the two since they sometimes go hand in hand (I've never met anyone who was an atheist/agnostic but did believe in ghosts).

Yeah, but I think your militant anti-carb stance is colored by where you work. Or maybe I am living in a dream world where most of the people I know are healthy, fit individuals who eat normal and reasonable (to me) amounts of carbs and are fine.
@breadandbutter07 I'm so sorry about your brother. I'm glad he is being treated, and I hope he sticks with it. My brother also struggles with serious mental illness, and it is very painful for everyone in his life. I hope he (and you and your family) finds peace.
Thanks, I remember you mentioning having a family member with a mental illness from a loooonnnnggg time ago when you started a thread about it. It's a big mess, but I definitely have it easier than many with loved ones who have mental illnesses.
Add me to the group of atheists. And while I know we've all agreed that one does not need to be religious to have morals, this is one of my favorite quotes regarding the matter:
"It is rather more noble to help people purely out of concern for their suffering than it is to help them because you think the Creator of the Universe wants you to do it, or will reward you for doing it, or will punish you for not doing it. [The] problem with this linkage between religion and morality is that it gives people bad reasons to help other human beings when good reasons are available." - Sam Harris
I have a coworker that is wholeheartedly perplexed as to how I have morals when I'm not religious.
@jennlin also best part other than discount. You get to be in the parade!!
any employee that wants to?? or only special departments? i'd totally go be in the parade.
Any employee and u can have two other non employees go to. U get to be balloon holders or clowns. You have to go to clown school for a day at the meadowlands in NJ. Quite the hike.
I managing partner at a local firm just called and wants me to go to lunch with him to discuss a management position at his firm. I have no interest in changing jobs right now, I have worked my butt off here for 8 years and they are basically allowing me to coast this first year with A, work from home on weekends, etc. But, they wanted to go to a restaurant that I have been wanting to try, so I agreed to go (for a free lunch).
I did tell them that I was 99.9% sure I was uninterested in leaving my current job.

i get what the quote is trying to convey, and i am not really all that offended. but this is the type of thing i am talking about when it comes to respect....both sides. this is saying oh well we are more moral than you! no one is saying my morals are better than yours or visa versa. i think we all need to be better ppl for the greater good. this quote to me is just a division.
I don't think the quote is saying that you can't do good work both because you are concerned for the suffering of others AND because your faith requires it. Just condemning those who are charitable only because they think it is buying them a ticket to heaven or they want to look good to the other parishioners.

i love traveling, and haven't been to NJ in a while. sounds like i need to get a back-to-school job. lol.
Religion bores me, as do all these posts about it. But to chime in...I do believe it is the cause of majority of the horrible things in this world. So, I'm kinda like that guy someone mentioned earlier. I just don't post about it on FB.
I get what the quote is saying, but I feel that only applies to certain people. I have a coworker who does good things for people in the name of religion. She also spends most of the day judging people. She was not happy that I lived with my husband before marriage. I don't think all people who are religious only do good things to get bonus points from God. I also don't think they are overly judgmental either. I am not religious at this point in my life.

It absolutely only applies to certain people. I would think (hope) the majority of people do good because it's the right thing to do.

Aaaaaaaaand @sleepy33 sums my jumbled thoughts up into a perfectly succinct repsonse. Again.
i daydream about working at macy's for the discount.
I used to work
for them. It was my favorite place to work ever. However, I did not work on the retail side. I got the discount though.
i buy most my furniture from macy's. i would've saved a buttload of cash to get a PT job there...i don't see any major purchases coming up, but i still think about how nice it would be.....i'd buy a kitchenaid mixer now. and #allthekitchenthings
I didn't even know Macy's sold furniture... I must live in a hole.

I think buddism is pretty awesome. I'm really interested in! The monks that used to come for esl at my old job were just amazing. They all spoke various languages and they are some self controlled people. I was just taken back that they all had iPhones lol.
This is more of a random, than a FFFC, but oh well.
I got friend requested on FB by a girl I haven't spoken to since 7th grade. We were good friends for a few months, but had a "falling out", and have never spoken since, even though we finished high school together (big hs, never had a class together).
I was doing random clicks through old hs classmates a few weeks ago, and I definitely snooped her FB. I feel like I got caught snooping. Don't know if I should accept her request. Since it's been over 15 years since our last convo......
I should be taking advantage of the baby's nap time to finish cleaning out the cabinets, (kitchen renovation starts tomorrow) but I am sitting in front of the computer instead.
You find interesting things when you completely clean out your cabinets. Like why do we have 20 shot glasses taking up room in our kitchen cabinets?
This is more of a UO, and actually more of a gripe but deal with it I'm pms'ing.
Not EVERYTHING needs to be hauled in the bed of the truck. I'm talking to you Gator! It's 1,000,000 degrees today and it rained on the way home. Translation. Gatorsgirl is putting up wet groceries and the melted ice cream is dripping all over my clean kitchen. Are you kidding me! Oh and you picked a bang up day to switch to paper!
Re: FFFC
On booze. Like a normal person.
Is your recycling bin adequate?
