I'm confused. You do realize that regardless of whether you choose medication or not, baby is still gonna rip down the birth canal and out the vag, right? The video would be the same if you watched an epidural birth, too. Sorry to disappoint

God why such smug comments. It's not like I was insulting anyone. I was only saying non medicated. With medicated videos the mother was rather content, she wasn't in screaming agony for an hour. I was just curious if women that choose a natural birth even watch natural birth videos, it just kind of amazes me because after watching a person go through so much agony they would still be willing to go through with it.

Yes, we are well informed of our decision. And again, it will still hurt with or without medication. Your implication is that mothers who choose this route are ignorant to what is involved.

Because we know the risks of unnecessary interventions during childbirth, and have made the decision to avoid them if possible.
This post just opens up the door for the medicated vs unmedicated mommy war because you kind of implied that there was something wrong with the decision to have a natural birth. More in your second post than your first, since originally you did say that you applaud those who do (your second post didn't sound at all like you're applauding anyone for doing it though).
I was unmediated for our first and plan to for our next as well.
We didnt take special classes or watch videos, but i know reading about successful natch birth stories were helpful for me. They give you lots of scenarios as possibilities, which is nice bc you never know exactly how things will go in your individual situation.
Try the natural birth board. You might get more specifics over there. If the videos aren't helpful, books may be more your style. Worked that way for me.
Alex has arrived! 9 pounds, 21 inches - 3 weeks early on March 2nd
~went natural - very intense. whew!~
Yep totally clicked on it to see what it was about. And to find that you were bashing women who have unmediated births? Completely insulting. And infuriating.
I've seen a lot of natural birth videos where the mother is not screaming and is actually quite calm. Probably a waste to tell you to go check those out, but you should.

@whitwankstah I have said it before and I'll say it 1000 more times, people put more time into researching what TV they are going to buy than their own birth. You seem like someone who has done very little REAL research on natural birth and why someone might choose that. Those of us that are choosing that road are doing it for every other reason but the pain. We have read, we have researched, and we know that an unmedicated birth offers you a much lower chance of tearing, cesareans and induction. Those are facts. So, yes, we will experience pain in childbirth (the horror) but for some the trade off is possibly having a birth without unnecessary interventions.
(Do not come back at me saying anything about how if you are getting an epi then you don't care, blah blah blah. Didn't say that, so don't try.)
What you said probably won't matter to her. She posted in another thread that she's having an elective c-section for no medical reasons at all. Yet in that same thread she says how a woman delivers doesn't matter, but here she bashes natural birth. You're awesome at GIFs, care to find one to summarize that point???

Yes, I saw this. I would ask her if she's even SEEN the risks involved with that, but she's clearly not bright. Also, I thought the "w" in wanksta was for white? So she is a WHITE, WHITE gangsta! I imagine she looks like this.....

I was not trying to insult anyone. I was genuinely curious.
I would just like to say that childbirth is supposed to hurt. People basically compare all pain to the pain of childbirth. But it's also what your body was made to do. And in most cases, interventions are not necessary, and they're just getting in the way of your body doing it's thing. So yes, we know that it's going to hurt. We didn't choose it because we thought it would be a walk in the freakin park.
I was induced because of leaking waters. The pitocin didn't do crap for me... no dilation, no pain. I had to be balloon dilated (that hurt) and it still took DS finally flipping over from sunny side up to get things moving. Oh, and I had an epi and it still hurt when it came time to push. Birth hurts. Nothing wrong with doing it unmediated. I'm going to try for less medication this time around, hoping DD here cooperates.
And if pain isn't your thing.... have you looked into the recovery process of a c-section? Why would you do that with no medical reason behind it? Your vagina is designed to recover from the abuse child birth can put it through, your abdominal wall is NOT designed to be cut open. Obviously c-sections have their place saving lives and I would never bash a woman that had a necessary one, but I do not understand voluntarily putting yourself through a major surgery that you might not have to have.
For one, there's a difference between natural childbirth and med-free childbirth as far as I'm concerned. Childbirth is a natural process and some women choose to be medicated. Some women need to have interventions. The process is still natural.
After seeing videos of both medicated and non-medicated births I knew what was the right decision for me. I went med-free with DS and will absolutely do it again unless interventions are necessary.
But whether you have an epidural, go med-free, or get a c-section something will most likely be torn and you will probably have stitches and it's still going to hurt like a bitch.
I don't have the courage for a normal birth. A c section doesn't scare me as bad, I know that's odd. I have been under the knife before and been in out of hospitals a bit. I had an Orthognatic surgery when I was 15. It was a little over an hour surgery. They basically cut and broke my upper and lower jaw pallets and corrected them. I have two metal plates and 4 screws in my jaws and had to have my mouth wired shut for 3 months. I had stitches across both my top and lower gums. It really wasn't that bad honestly, I was a little sore but I was never in any real pain after the surgery and never took anything for it. I guess a c section let's me kind of know what to expect so I guess that's why it doesn't bother me.

Fear/nervousness over something you've never experienced is totally understandable. I've been under the knife to have a hearing implant put into my skull, so I've had experience with surgical recovery time too.
This is your abdomen we're talking about though. Cutting into your abdominal wall weakens it and every surgery has risks. It's obviously recoverable, many many women get c-sections... but most get them because they are medically necessary for the health of themselves or their child. I can't really speak to the specifics of having a c-section as I delivered my son vaginally, but I did find some good information on the indications for, types of, risks, and recovery here.
If the only reason you want to do an elective c-section is nervousness about childbirth I highly recommend speaking to a counselor about your anxieties. A scheduled C is similar to an early induction in that you could be bringing baby out before they are ready. Lung maturation is very important in the last weeks of pregnancy, letting LO decide when to come out is always ideal. For the sake of your LO please put some more thought into this.

Totally understandable to have a fear of childbirth. In fact that was the major reason for me taking natural childbirth classes, so I can understand what will/could happen. Those classes have asked my fears a ton and now I'm going to try a natural birth.
With a c-section, you may not be in pain during the process, but you will be in pain afterwards. Many of my friends that have had c-sections said that recovery was painful. My mom has also said that. They all had to have emergency c-sections or had had prior c sections. So you're not going to escape pain just by having a c-section.
Why do you think you don't have the courage for a normal birth?

I agree that just because you elect an epi does not mean said drugs are going to work... coming from experience of 3 failed epis with a 4th that blew through a nerve in my back and then finally worked. I wouldn't insult those who have the ability to go natural... I would bow down to them!

On the contrary! we just had our 8 hour Childbirth Prep class this past Saturday and watched 3 natural births that were amazing! No screaming or falling apart, nothing terrifying. The #1 thing they taught us is that pain in childbirth is: productive, anticipated, intermittent and normal. The women in the video were amazing with their strength and fortitude, and the support of their birthing partners. I was so inspired. I myself am just praying and manifesting that I go into labor on my own and have no complications, so that I can experience a med-free birth such as the ones we were shown!
Have any of you women that decided to have a non medicated child birth watch any natural child birth videos? I am pretty curious. I watched a lot of natural child birth videos over the internet, I can't even count how many. I can honestly say they did not empower me in anyway to take that road. In fact, they left me so completely horrified that I literally cried through most of them. I applaud any lady that can watch natural child birth videos and still decide that route. This girl ,however, is not going through it. lol.
This is the post that everyone is freaking out over? It just sounds like someone using TB as their personal journal or blog but it's nothing to get all hot and bothered over.
Cant speak for anyone else, but for me personally, it was her second comment that irritated me. Where she said "Do people wanting a natural birth even watch videos" and basically made it sound like we were dumb for putting ourselves through the "agony".
I just never understand why people care enough to judge the reasoning behind another mother's choice. I had an epi because that what was best for me, but if someone else wants to go med-free or use different pain management who cares? That's what they feel is best for them and I guarantee they did research and thought through their decision just as I did. And I'm sure it was based on more than watching a few you tube videos.
And fwiw, I ended up with a c/s (nothing to do with having the epi) and while labor hurt like hell prior to my epi I still would never recommend having major abdominal surgery just because you are afraid of a vaginal delivery. I'm having an RCS in a week and am at peace with this decision, but trust me when I say that recovery is no walk in the park (and I had a very "easy" recovery with no complications).
I just had my second LO about a month ago and I chose to get an epidural.... it definitely did not make my labor pain free... I still felt every contraction and was miserable the entire time. So yahh, choosing to get any pain medication doesn't mean you'll get a magical pain free experience.
Another one that was drawn by the "." I had a med free birth with DD. Did it hurt, yes. Agony? No. Honestly the nerve pain before getting a root canal was worse. No need to fearmonger.
I can't believe your OB is allowing you to have a c/s because your scared of vaginal birth. 8-|
Why? OBs look for excuses to do inductions and c-sections everyday... she's just making it easier for him to fatten his paycheck.
Wow - just wow..................
There is almost no chance baby boy will turn to the proper position yet my OB still isn't going to schedule my c-section until next week, after an U/S to confirm his position; and did the GBS swab this week just in case he does turn. Even in the "high risk" clinic the attitude is that "we are going to give you every opportunity to deliver vaginally"
C-Sections are not the devil - medically necessary ones save lives - baby and mom.
Are some medically necessary? Sure. With over 1/3 of the births in the US being c/s are all of them? Absolutely not.
OP would not be the first nor the last to randomly decide to have a c/s for any other reason than she doesn't want to deliver naturally and have an OB happily go along with it so he knows when to schedule his golf game that week.
If there was a bingo for all of the Business of Being Born talking points...
