I think it's normal, as far as I've seen, to have a big variety of things on a registry, from fine china sets to kitchen towels. And I love it. I'm a big 'basket' giver for showers - last year I gave a friend a giant kitchen goodies basket - all of the potholders and towels, serving utensils, bamboo cooking utensils, I'm sure some consumable stuff like a bottle or two of wine, and I *think* I put it all in a big drink tub....if I remember correctly. But I also love big ticket items - like, a group of coworkers or cousins or whatever can all go in on a set of nice pots/pans or a vacuum or something.
I couldn't even tell you what we had registered for, but H and I had lived together (in TWO different houses nonetheless) and still set up a registry.
I would take a bus full of newborns over a handful of hard-headed toddlers/preschoolers.
Edit: Well that's weird. Quote fail and underlined and I can't make it stop. Sorry!
You crazy. I watched my friends four month old today and I had to hold him every second or he went batshit crazy and it was an hourly game of "why the fuck is the baby crying now". Give me preschoolers who can tell you what they want, wander off in their room for an hour to play independently/together, dress and feed themselves any day.
Okay this thread is evidence as to why Parenting thinks we're uptight bitter bitches. No parties for anything ever... This board can be like that.
The thing is it's always a few crazies (cough @MomIn2013 cough) that say stupid shit like that. And then it's OMG SAHM thinks no one should have parties ever.
Meh, call me crazy if you want to (oh wait, you just did ), but I find the general concept of showers gift grabby so unless it's for things the people really need, I tend to judge.
Oh and BTW, I'm all for a good party, but IMO a shower is not it. Maybe people around here are doing it wrong...
I think kids need a summer break. They need to be outdoors in the summer, running, climbing trees, jumping into the pool, etc. Kids need to be allowed to be kids and they sure as hell don't get that while being ferried from math test to spelling test to chess club to violin lessons. I am pro-summer vacation. Even though I know I am going to want to sell DS1 after 2 months off, I still think it is right for him to have the summer off. Probably an UO but I'm ok with that.
Looking back on my childhood, summer was my favorite time of year. I loved being able to sleep in, go outside with my friends and bike, explore the woods, play manhunt at night, etc. I'm all for summers off, even if it means inconveniencing us (paying for camp, daycare, etc.). It's a part of life that will never happen again for them, and kids should be able to enjoy it.

Speaking of Hav, my UO is that I am honestly shocked she never came back after that last crazy UO. I never thought I'd see the day that she let her account die. I'm sure she's here somewhere, but I'm surprised she didn't come back after a week and backpedal/half apologize.
Andplusalso I miss signing on just to see all the stuff she had to say. It was always interesting...

How do you determine who "needs" what?
I'm not saying I know or care who "needs" what, item for item, but the idea of a shower is to prepare a person, so: Someone getting married and setting up a home together for the first time needs home stuff, Someone about to have a baby for the first time needs baby stuff.
As far as Hav goes, I will say the UO is more interesting now. It's a game of "Who will ger flamed this week?" rather than "What will Hav get flamed for this week?" :-p
Re: Kourtney Kardashian's pregnancy (which was from like page 2 and apparently only 2 of us care - ha!). I think Kris told her to get pregnant so they would have yet another reason to stay in the limelight after the wedding...

It wouldn't surprise me. "Time your pregnancy so it's Kim's wedding, your pregnancy announcement, then I'll tell Kim to get pregnant by the time you give birth to #3 so we still have the limelight."
There was a conversation on my BMB about how hard it is to shower, I judge that. If you have time to bump you have time to shower,
I never got this, the complaints about not showering. I mean, you can't find 10 minutes amongst all those newborn naps to quickly wash your hair and yourself?
I do get the no time/inability to sleep with a newborn 100%, though.
OMG, me too! I don't get it either. I always had my comfy clothes and make up on as well. The boppy was made for a reason.
I my never ending series of "I Just Can't" from the WM board, today's beef is that kids should be in school longer days and year round because it's not fair I have to pay for aftercare or camp for my snowflake.
Dude, WTAF? It's not like school calendars have changed that radically over the years. How are you not prepared for this?
And of course, teachers get too much time off, not like the 24/7 super high powered moms of their pupils.
I work and that board kills me daily.
I saw that today and I just backed away slowly. It always amazed me that people think kids should be in school the same number of hours "you" work. Who's work hours are we using as a guideline exactly? And when is the archer suppose to get to go home or plan? School =/= daycare. I hope these complainers have their kids there on time every single day and never pull them for a personal vacation or the like. Now see? I should have just kept quiet here too!
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

I saw Kourtney just announced her pregnancy- and I bet when she's 6 months along Kim and Kayne will announce they are expecting #2!
