I think all parents should be familiar with the CDC milestone chart. It drives me nuts to talk to a parent who has no clue about their child's developmental stages.
::runs off to google CDC milestone chart::
I did this too Now I know!!
Yay! Is probably way to excited about sharing this knowledge:D
When I think of capital punishment, I think of my mom and how I would feel if something happened to her. I would want that person dead. End of story.
If someone killed my family member, I would want that person dead as well. But that's exactly why I don't believe in capital punishment. I as a normal, emotional person would want to kill someone who hurt or killed my family. But we give the right to punish criminals over to the government precisely because we don't want individuals going out and seeking revenge and handing out their own punishments. Maybe I'm not explaining this very well, but I am glad that the duty/responsibility of punishing criminals is taken out of my hands and handled by a supposedly objective third party. I don't think my emotional gut instinct to hurt others who have hurt me/my family should lead to a cycle of violence.
I also don't think the death penalty is a deterrent. The reality is that most people who commit murders are not thinking through all the implications. I really doubt there are a lot of people who think "it's an ok decision for me to kill this person because I'll only get life in prison if I am caught, but if there was the death penalty I wouldn't do it".
Also, I don't like melon.
Super late to the game, however, I was a victim of a heinous crime (rape) and my father literally wanted to and I believed he was capable of murdering the man who did it to me. I told him he could not, because I could not have that on my conscience for the rest of my life and I am very glad he listened.
Wow, that is heavy. I'm sorry you went through something so horrific.
On an unrelated topic; I don't understand why people would want to not only lurk on other BMB's but POST on them. I visit lots of boards on here but I would never even think to post on a BMB other than the one I belong to. I just don't get it....
Right... that kinda irked you too, then? You told us so? Like we didn't EXPECT this type of thing? Then following it with a "boom in your face" type gif? GTFO.
I should save my judgments for things that really matter like not returning shopping carts to the cart return.
Oh hell yes! Lazy assholes.
I just have say. There are sometimes where I am just lazy and leave the cart next to the car. BUT.....WhenIit is in the triple digits and you want to get out of the heat as soon as you can. You just do what you need to do. Also in regards to to carts being wet when it is raining. What do you expect? The cart person yo towel dry each and every cart they bring in? So that it can get wet again. Or there to be a major umbrella that pops up over the cart when it starts to rain or snow? So that takes up more room in the cart holding area. *I was a cart person in the snow/sleet/rain and it sacked to have to go get them and bring them back in when people were drivingcrazy.* **puts soapbox away**

I was part of S14 for a very short period of time, but had an early loss, then ended up PG right away and was fortunate enough to join you ladies....but I can't help popping into S14 every now and again, and if there's a post I want to comment on, I do! That's just my reason though, not sure about others!!

Yep. That was super annoying!
I think this was just a throwback to a month ago or so when O14 and S14 had a moment. Pretty sure that was just a friendly 'heyo!'

I don't remember... did we say that was never going to happen on our board? What was the "told you so" for? Seriously... I don't remember other than it turned into some weird scissor fest.
No. We never said anything of the sort. Hence why we're a bit irked.
Regarding whoever said that murderers have family too (and therefore should not be executed to save that family from pain) I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that having a family member who murdered someone causes infinitely more pain than losing said murderous family member to execution. That person already caused more pain to their family by committing a heinous crime than anything else could possibly do. I'm sorry they caused that kind of pain and trauma to their own family, but don't for one second blame anyone else, including the government, for those consequences. They screwed both whomever they murdered's family and their own family. So screw them.
Clearly I'm in a very loving mood right now...
Hey there-- I'd just like to point out that I think kids were originally brought up when it came to botched executions. So the argument wasn't that we shouldn't execute people because they have children. It was that if we have to have executions then they should be humane because the guilty are people and they have families.
Just wanted to clarify. Not sure if that matters.
I'm don't really understand how the state has the right to enforce capital punishment, but it definitely doesn't have the right to torture as a punishment for a crime.
Thanks for the interesting UO this week, ladies! I love cheesecake and don't have an informed opinion on extended BF.
On the topic of extended breastfeeding, there is newer research that links the longer your breastfeed your first child, your chances of getting breast cancer are greatly reduced. Makes me feel better about nursing Nat closer to 2 years (we stopped at 21 months). I wish I could find that research article, but I think it's one you have to pay to have access to.
I'm curious as to what article that is from, but I'm not sure that it's true based on a few other articles I found: (I can get the full text but I'm not certain if it's bc of my institution's subscription, so if anyone can't access it and wants it, PM me).
I'll confess, I never read the article. My mom is a lactation consultant who does breastfeeding research and she was telling me about this in the last month. I'll have her forward me the abstract tomorrow. The studies that you linked are older than the study that my mother mentioned.
