Just downloaded it. I have to say, it's not the type of book I'd normally pick...definitely side eyeing it off the description, but I guess that's the point of me doing the book club. To read something I wouldn't normally pick up.
@bullybutt u can download the nook app to your desktop from Bn.com and use it to read from your desktop/laptop. Then just create a B&N account and buy the nook version. I did this before I invested in my e-readers to get cheaper books!
@jnnfrrose6 oh this shit happens in real life! You just HAVE to believe... You just have to!
Just finished it too. DH is traveling for work so I had some extra time. I agree it was just meh, but then again we've already established this isn't my normal kind of read and I guess it just reaffirms that for me. Also, minor detail, but I couldn't get over the comment about going down into the smoky club from the private rooftop. It's NYC. They don't allow smoking in bars or clubs.
Book 1 being exactly what I expected- pure dirtiness, I proceeded to book 2 around 3am this morning (thanks insomnia). Just finished it and I will conclude: less smut than the 1st and more story (romantic drama??).
How are the rest of you liking A Discovery of Witches? Clairmont's a pretty sexy vamp, right?!
I'm loving Discovery! Enough romance and suspense to keep my failing brain interested. I did try the official book choice, but it's really NMS. I need more story...anyone have pearls for me to clutch?
I finished the book this morning. It was ok. I agree that it was definitely a wannabe Crossfire. Didn't make me want to get the second book, but I didn't mind the smut, it's more action than I really see nowadays so it was entertaining. Haha.
@chrinikki1 Haha..yea...me too! Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy and lucky to be having this little girl and I wouldn't trade it for anything. But I'm really looking forward to feeling like a normal human being with a good sex drive again!
I'm loving Discovery too, but I'm too tired to read haha. Also, orange is the new black.
But when we're ready for the next one, I'm going to suggest The Blue Bistro by Elin Hildebrand. It's my favorite easy chick lit summer book, and I read it every summer. Join me!
OMG, @missquela. Your life will never be the same. The books are so long, but it's like a vacation in an incredibly romantic and dangerous place with the hottest, most amazing man ever. DH knows that when those books start making an appearance that his wife will suddenly have both higher expectations and libido. Read them now.
Outlander series, huh?! For some reason I thought it was about Zombies so if in fact it's about the hottest, most amazing man ever... Count me in. Done and done!
Here's a link to the author's webpage, that I think gives the best summary without missing the most important points. But really, put aside some time, be ready to neglect responsibilities, and expect more out of the men in your life.
@Literachick did you download yours yet?!?!? I have this "work" thing that I'm supposed to be "focused" on, but....Jamie and Claire. Kids can teach themselves, right?
I have never heard of outlander either, but after reading a few reviews on amazon, I may just have to get the first book! I love love love long, epic novels, and my husband takes a lot of pride in his Scottish heritage. Sounds like something right up my alley!
ETA: we went on our honeymoon to Great Britain and fell in love with Scotland. I'd love to read a book that incorporates the beauty of the highlands! Now just to convince DH I need another book...
So I downloaded the first Outlander book yesterday thanks to everyone talking about it. I figure I'll need something to help keep me entertained in the next few weeks/months, so let's try out this series. So far I'm enjoying it.
Oh, I'm so glad we're creating a new population of Outlander fans! And ladies, August 9 on Starz marks the beginning of the series made for TV. The author had a ton of input in the casting and direction, so I'm really looking forward to it.
@squnkie, I'm a Scot heritage-wise, too! I actually got into the series after my mom and I went to Scotland years ago, and I re-read it at least once a year just to take me back there. You'll love the historical accuracy of the books if you know any Scots history Enjoy!!

That's awesome! Yes I love the history of Scotland (and Great Britain for that matter). That's one of the main reasons why a favorite author of mine is Stephen Lawhead. He has a series about Robin Hood, but bases it in 14th century Wales and incorporates all kinds of history into it.
I just remembered I have a Barnes and Noble gift card. I know what I'm ordering later today!
@Literachick I'm enjoying it. I've said it before, but I don't read a lot of fiction, but I'm finding this really enjoyable. The history of it all is really interesting to me and she seems to do a good job of making it seem actually believable (one of my biggest pet peeves about historical fiction is that some authors seem to take a few "liberties" with the time period).
So far, so good, so thanks ladies for getting me into it
She's SO accurate, @jnnfrrose6. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but there's really only one aspect (and it is a fairly major plot point) that is somewhat unbelievable, but it works in these books for some reason. She approaches everything with a scientific bent, so even unbelievable things seem totally legitimate. I think I'm almost as interested in what new fans of Outlander think as I am in what happens in the newest book.
I've only been able to read the first two chapters of outlander since it was an online preview - I'm getting the actual book tomorrow, and am really excited! I think I already have my mom and sister into it as well. Haha.
I am loving it so far, and can't wait to continue reading! Thanks for the suggestion ladies!
